U16 Girls Youth Soccer

U16 young women players are not playing for fun, they are playing to win.

Best to step aside, because they are about to barrel through...

11:12 Great point of view! Nice to see someone truly sees the money grab systems Youth soccer has put in place in the good ole U.S.A

Dude, the change out of URI and WV is in the category of too little...to late...
It was that abuse of power supporting poor venues and lousy programming (monopolistic decision making) with a complete misunderstanding and disregard of whom the customers in that relationship (the clubs) really were, that led to the power clubs leaving and organizing under the alternative carding system- US club.

The DA was very successful in attracting the boys to a "superior" level of play. The power clubs saw this happen with their own boys teams and knew they WERE the superior level and wherever their teams were competing, would by default, be the top level of play for girls.

Prior to the ECNL, US club provided carding and a few programs like Super y and summer leagues for summer teams. That allowed USYSA carded kids (basically all travel and above) to have a second team card for summer tournaments and events. The power clubs recognized this alternative organization and rather than reinventing the wheel, they formed the ECNL and shifted their ECNL teams to this organization. They immediately provided a far superior product to its customers and thrived. USYSA in its hubris caused the fragmentation we all have lived through over the last 7 years.

I think my daughter is the best midfielder in the Northeast ECNL, anybody agree?

Anonymous said...

She is...no doubt there

Anonymous said...

Thanks 10:02, I agree!

9:48. I am a very high level Div 1 College Coach. I can't personally reach out to you but would love for you to call me at my office so we can discuss a full scholarship for your daughter. I am located in NC and my school starts with a "d" and ends with an "e". I don't even need to see her play. Give me a call

Anonymous said...

Sorry 9:48, she is not even the best midfielder on her own team.

Anonymous said...

Coach please answer your phone!!!!!

Anonymous said...

11:06: Thanks Coach, we would love to come visit U of Delaware!

11:21: That’s not true, she is the best on her own team, I watch soccer on TV, and I know what I am writing about, I swear!

11:30: You can’t call the coach silly, you have to corner him/her at a tournament, and then show them HUDL clips on your iPad, that works best I found.

Yours in Soccer,
Franz

Well I could start with some divisions are stronger than others so deserve more than 1. I could more importantly add because this is a massive exposure opportunity for kids both for college and USSF camps. participating in the NA cup or SC cup is dissimilar to traveling to CASL and playing in second or third flights for NPL/USYSA teams in the fall. Exposure and "meaningful games".

I can tell you that the competition in the NE ECNL is far more consistent than any other league the teams could be participating in at this point. That will change next year with the DA and take a few years to settle, but this year no competition. You keep saying it isn't competitive because they invite 32 teams into the playoffs. Well if they are pretty much the top 32 teams in the country, I think it's a great format. Oh and guess what, baring a few exclusions, they are...

Anonymous said...

ummm, the coach is from Duke btw.
I beat you to the phone call.

Anonymous said...

Hey 11:43. I talked to him after you got off with him. Did he offer a full ride plus use of golf cart to get around campus and dinner at his house on Sundays?

Anonymous said...

Duke is all set for '19s

Almost for '20s as well.

Unless you are an elite GK

Anonymous said...

9:48 Great to see your daughter committed to Rutgers.

Anonymous said...

2:04 Thank You. I can't believe I filled my roster so easily. Who would have thought I just needed to troll around on the NJ blogs to get the best players. To the player that I told that I could get a pony if they signed with us, I am sorry but the best I could do was a horse and a basket of puppies. I hope that is good enough

Anonymous said...

2:05, she isn't even the best midfielder on her team 😬

Anonymous said...

11:38
i thought it was very funny. 11:43 - the new U of Del head coach came from NC state. clue - NC and begins with D and ends with e (Delaware). still funny.

Anonymous said...

Hey 2:00pm yesterday
I turned down the dinners at his house, his wife can't cook. we went with the meal plan so now it 90% scholarship instead. I'll just get a 2nd job, all good.
Also, my daughter's not that great academically and refuses to wear red so I asked for her to be pink shirted instead when needed.
There is still room for 2019s, he's going with 46 roster

The IFAB, in charge of soccer’s rules, will be considering these proposals and decide in March which, if any, to experiment with

The proposals:

1. Allow players to dribble the ball on free kicks and corner kicks.

2. Not require goal kicks to leave the penalty area before the kicker’s teammate plays the ball.

3. Award a goal after a hand-ball by the defense on a goal-bound shot (even if the ball doesn’t cross the line).

4. No rebound attempts after penalty kicks. (After the save, the game is stopped and the keeper’s team is awarded a goal kick.)

5. Change the length of the game from 90 minutes to 60 while having the refs stop the clock whenever the ball is out of play.

6. The whistle for halftime, full-time, end of overtime to be blown only when the ball is out of play.

7:02, I think they should implement all of those new rules, then name it a different sport, like Roccer.

On a slightly more serious note, my daughters team is having a college coach come and answer some questions next week, any advice on some good questions???

If you’re not serious don’t respond, this means you.

Anonymous said...

Clarify please because context changes the questions.

Is the coach coming to your house to only talk to your daughter.

---or---

Is the coach coming to a group session to talk to everyone.

Anonymous said...

The whole team will be there, its at one of our practices next week.

Anonymous said...

Ask

What he/she likes to see in videos and on resumes?

What one trait is most important to them; skill, speed, soccer IQ, or potential?

When do you start filling roster spots, how many years out?

How many new players get scholarships at your school?

Anonymous said...

Those are good, thanks!

Was going to ask how the (S) word gets mentioned, who starts that process, do you have to ask, or do they offer without prompt?

Anonymous said...

7:02 that can't be serious? Who comes up these suggestions? please don't say the college coaches.

Anonymous said...

Serious indeed, FIFA is behind this....

Anonymous said...

I do not like the new rules at all. Next thing you know if a hand ball occurs it is up to the blind refs to call a goal or not based on their assumption the ball might have gone into the net. My daughter is a goal keeper, she and I and her coach would go ballistic if that happens. Refs make really bad decisions that cost games. I saw it recently at Jeff Cup, PDA showcase in particular. We had some really bad refs.

Anonymous said...

We would have more refs if crazy parents and coaches stopped acting like it was the world cup and that they had the right or knowledge to question every call.

I played as a teen, coached years ago, and am a student of the game. I like to consider myself very knowledgeable of the rules, but no expert. I consistently hear parents with NO clue yelling the loudest. They raise their arm when the ball is only 1/2 out and actually yell for young kids to be given red cards. It's disgusting. It is even worse when these adults yell at players on the field. I love when we go to fields that make the parents sit 20 yards back from the touch line and behind a fence. I also love when refs send unruly parents to the parking lot.

A few years ago I watched a 17 year old ref brought to tears during a match. Pack mentality took over a bunch of classy parents and they ridiculed this young women over and over. Our parents intervened but it only caused more yelling and more outlandish cries for fouls. It totally got out of hand and sadly happens every weekend. Sadly it was only a U9 game.

A few of our Moms went over to console her afterword but I would be surprised if she ever refed again.

The reason we have bad referees are because we as parents drive the good and young refs away from the game. Fat old men are the only ones who are left because they can turn off the noise. Literally, with the volume knob on their hearing aid.

Anonymous said...

Everyone needs to understand that these development leagues for players are also development leagues for referees. Just like the best players will prove themselves to move up, so do referees. The younger players get the newer refs and the best refs are not doing youth soccer games. ARs are mostly still learning and the most important call they make is the hardest call in the game. The offside rule is very complicated for most crews to get correct. That is why using the offside-trap is the worst decision a coach can ever make. State Cup, ECNL, NPL, and the like will not draw top level refs. They will draw developing refs. MLS has a big problem with referees and you expect the top crew at your game when there are hundreds of matches in this local area on any given weekend. I agree, we need that parents need to shut up because that is the only thing that will bring and keep more refs. Having a bigger pool of refs will allow the best to be selected for big events.

Anonymous said...

Good luck to ALL the teams traveling to Rockford this weekend! Let’s show the rest of the country how well the Northeast can play, let’s show them our pride!

Anonymous said...

I have no problem with parents calling to red card an opposing player (or even their own)

Reds and yellows are ridiculously underutilized in youth soccer matches.

Reckless - and dangerous, leading to injury - behavior only gets worse when unchecked.

Anonymous said...

You should NEVER call for a kid to get any card!

First off it is a violation of the dissent rule. More so used on players and coaches for challenge to the authority of the referee. And is a send off violation in the laws of the game. Secondly it is morally wrong because they are children. You are being a bully, not a responsible adult. Remember it takes a village to raise a kid.

AYSO says: When a spectator persists with inappropriate conduct, the referee should go to the touchline near the spectator and say something like: “Sir, we can no longer tolerate your inappropriate behavior. You have 3 minutes to leave the area or I will be forced to terminate this game.” The referee should not engage in any further conversation with this spectator. At the end of 3 minutes, if the spectator is still present, the game should be terminated.

Anonymous said...

Do you know they video tape NJYS state cup semi finals and finals. They review the tapes at night, yes on Saturday night with the refs and scrutinize (then Sunday night after finals). that is what would help with most if you ask me. Here and there review tapes by higher officials of state cups play, higher level bracket tournaments. And you are right about AR having hardest call in book. Off sides is so complicated, even for players, especially for ignorant parents yelling off sides. I strongly disagree with a parent yelling red card, really? @11:12. You must be that parent then. Then to say a parent would yell red card against their own player. Never, ever, ever would that happen. Again the parents getting involved, calling for a team to be down one player. Their are 3 refs, let them do their jobs and just shut up and root for your kids. Stay out of the referee part, especially calling red cards out to 14/15 year old girls.

Anonymous said...

I only yell for red cards against NJ teams, they deserve it, mostly.

Anonymous said...

Then you never played NY teams. Those kids will knock out your teeth and cleat your face in. They are especially good at fouls behind the referees back. No lie, I actually witnessed a NY defender punch our striker in the back two different times when the ball was at the other end of the field. None of the 3 refs or either coaches noticed so it went unpunished.

Anonymous said...

@8:33am. I got news for you. That happened to me and my team mates back in the 70's and 80's and will never change. Additional ref on side line or end line would certainly help that. it would not cost that much to add additional refs to state cup, high level tournaments

Anonymous said...

@ 8:33

People are soft these days. Used to have the coach take care of that stuff with a well timed substitution. Your gonna hit my center striker....next time you touch the ball, #8 that just came on is going to somehow miss time the tackle.

An old school method to balance out poor reffing.

Anonymous said...

8:33, what NY team might you be referring to??

Anonymous said...

4:54 not where I'm from - coach didn't have to tell anyone anything and they shouldn't have to do that now. My kid's team is awesome just like every other team out there, when teams get a little chirpy bodies start hitting the floor, they play a hybrid style of play a little possession mixed with a very direct approach and can be very physical if the other team wants to play that type of a game. I always get nervous when one of them are tackled hard because I know what's coming (I just hope nobody gets hurt). Sports is not for people with a weak heart or stomach. Always cracks me up when parents try to fight their kid's battle. Chill take a step back and enjoy we were all there at one time or another - but now it's not about us it's about the kids.

Anonymous said...

PF and Stars.... both with big loses in Illinois today. Congrats to WC coming away with the only W from the Northeast.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Penn Fusion took a 6-2 beating . Guess their self proclaimed super star is not so super after all .

Anonymous said...

Looks like they had a complete defensive meltdown

Anonymous said...

With ECNL players moving to DA, and NPL players moving to ECNL, what's the fate of NPL and town clubs

Anonymous said...

842
careful - your green monster is peeking out.

Anonymous said...

They have a superstar??

Anonymous said...

Tino thought by telling his subs to not bother coming to Illinois and instead asking his best 03's to play instead of them it would help. How'd that work for you Day 1 Tino?

Anonymous said...

The whining about rough play is ridiculous. You do what you need to do to win the game. The soccer field isn't a safe space.

Anonymous said...

4:31 are you serious ? Wouldn't surprise me . Penn Fusion has never been about player loyalty and development .

Anonymous said...

4:31 unfortunately is right. No players off the bench made the trip after being told they wouldn't play. Instead he asked his top 2 03's. Pathetic club and coach.

Anonymous said...

E624
sorry not true
they have 6 subs , one injured , 2 chose not to go
The other 3 went , doesn't sound like conspiracy
You PAC parents should give it a rest

Anonymous said...

PA parent not a PAC parent and it is true but spin it whichever way makes you feel better. Subs were told their play time would not justify making the trip. I would "choose" not to go as well.

Anonymous said...

4:31 is absolutely correct . Tino brought his 2 best 03s at the expense of the 02 bench players . Look at the photo on the PF facebook page and you will see for yourself .

Anonymous said...

843 & 926
smh, you must care a lot about that team to be stalking their fb page
must be a PA thing .

Anonymous said...

Or just maybe my one son is at PF so I get the FB updates SMH. Still doesn't change the facts about what goes on there.

Anonymous said...

So those kids were good enough to fill a roster spot and have their parents make the monthly payments all year but not good enough to end the year with their team at playoffs? Wow.

Anonymous said...

If I knew that my daughter will be going on a $2000 trip to play for 30 total minutes in 3 games, I would probably consider staying too. I would be glad I'm given an option to stay and an honest opinion of the potential to play, even if it hurts.

Some kids play off the bench to impress, and some carry the burden of being a sub - that also includes my kids too.

Anonymous said...

Love those ECNL bullet points that talk about "DEVELOPMENT" what a frickin joke!! as bad as any thing else out there, no better, maybe worse. DA

Anonymous said...

With no coaching changes for the PF DA I'm expecting more of the same as above with PF .

Anonymous said...

All these top name clubs don't develop they cherry pick players from other clubs. There is no such thing as development anymore in the U.S. it's all about $'s now.

Look type of gain does a bottom half of the ECNL teams get traveling to Chicago. At least U.S. Youth you need to win in your state and region before you move onto a national scene. They give options to get there too league play, state cup.

Anonymous said...

Why are there 3 brackets/titles at ECNL nationals???

Anonymous said...

Ecnl is driven by college coaches demand. There are better coaches in the lowest bracket of ecnl than at any other tournament. Ecnl events obviously excluded.

Anonymous said...

806- Congratz for losing on day two-obviously a WC parent!

Anonymous said...

And your point? How many can say they're still in it going into day three. That's all you can ask. Congrats on may making champions bracket

Anonymous said...

PF parent getting a little nasty, don't worry bro, you'll be able to go home on Monday!

Anonymous said...

Ouch

Anonymous said...

Catching up here. Saw that Solar Chelsea crushed PF but have their been any upsets yet of the top team in each team bracket?

Anonymous said...

8:35, hahaha, yes the day did not go exactly as planned for PDA and Real Colorado, sorry 😐

Anonymous said...

Let's face it the Northeast cannot compete against the rest of the U.S. Between the ECNL, NPL, US Youth ERL, EDP the north east has become so diluted when they teams attend national events like ECNL playoffs they cannot compete.

Anonymous said...

Why is So Cal the best then? Not to mention several others who shine every year from that region. It's just as diluted along the southwest as the northeast. Could weather be that much of a factor?

Anonymous said...

There is a difference between diluted among competing clubs versus dilution among within the club. And sorry SW Conference is packed with what 11/12 good clubs playing year round in good weather. Northeast has what 14 clubs in ECNL, along with 10+ very strong clubs in NPL and US Youth then throw in Maryland, and DC areas. We in NY/North NJ are very diluted. Not to worry GDA will fix all of this with limited selection.

Anonymous said...

Congratz to World Class for finishing LAST in their group, see you on the golf course Jeff.

Anonymous said...

Haha, 1:53, good one, well at least you and Jeff can play together now!

Anonymous said...

Another loss for PF places them 3rd in their bracket. Poor Tino.

Anonymous said...

But, they made it to championship league and didn't finish last in their bracket. btw - plenty of coaches watching.

Anonymous said...

6:40
sounds like someone got cut from team or not invited. ohhhh. wipe your eyes and blow your nose with your PAC of tissues. it will be okay.

Anonymous said...

oh i'm 6:50 talking about 5:54.

Anonymous said...

You're going to brag about 1 win and 2 loses. I'm sure those coaches saw plenty they liked.....from the opposing team. Oh and I'm MD parent. See you in the Fall!

Anonymous said...

Lol!!! Nice one MD parent!!

Anonymous said...

Not bragging about anything. Not on that team. I know being in Showcase was nothing like being in Champions League. Enjoy your ride back to MD.

Anonymous said...

7:39
hey MD parent. didn't see a MD team in the Champions Division. See ya next year, too, when we join the U17's (U17/16). should be fun. btw - there were a lot of coaches watching champions divison.

Anonymous said...

just to clarify - when the current U16's become U17's and we become U16's as part of the U17/16 GDA team.

Anonymous said...

Guess it doesn't matter who Tino decides to bench in favor of his 03s they still can't win . How's that development going hahaha

Anonymous said...

9 goals against in 3 games. What kind of training do they do in PA? You kick it the ball the OTHER way!

Anonymous said...

ECNL playoffs done for East teams. time to start bashing the DA, ready, set, GO!!!!

Anonymous said...

Are you for real with this nonsense? Have you all lost your minds, chasing soccer to this level, spending 10 months slaving to it, and then spending your summer going to tournaments, ecnl, da, edp or otherwise? Spending $8 to $10000 a season? Insulting others, insulting kids insulting volunteer coaches and kids who love the sport, all in vane, all for your egos and 'the coaches on the sidelines."

What about a job this summer what about putting limits on soccer and saying that working to make some money is important? or are you just going to buy them a car because they put all their effort into soccer, which cost you $10000 a year? Could you image telling your fathers 30 years ago that you wanted to be part of a $10000 soccer program annually and that he or mom had to drive you around the universe? Do your kids shovel the driveway when it shows ? do they do their own laundry? Take out the trash? clean up? chores?
or is soccer their entire lives.

The kids are awesome. But i'm sorry, some of you parents have lost your minds and are following these commercial profit seeking business down the path because they make you feel you have no other options. It ok if you feel like climbing MT Everest just for the sake of it. But don't go throwing rocks down on those who think you're fricking out of your minds.

Anonymous said...

10 06
no one threw "rocks" at you for your choices for your kiddo. it is you and those like you that are constantly bashing ecnl, DA, etc. to each his own friend, take care of your own house and i will take care of mine.

Anonymous said...

10:06 Does have valid points . Many parents letting their kids forgo their childhood in search of being the next Carli lloyd. I hope you realize the odds are not in your favor .

Anonymous said...

You are one of them, or you would never be on this blog.

Anonymous said...

2:54 Don't try to make yourself feel better by convincing yourself that I'm like you . My daughter actually has a life outside of soccer . Babysitting job , Volunteers 2x a week to help coach a u8 G team . Goes to the pool , mall , nail salon with friends . Goes to the beach , enters chess tournaments . Has many chores at home and basically enjoys a normal summer of a teenager . Can your daughter say the same ? Or is she still on the pitch waiting for her big break ?

Anonymous said...

Volunteering and chess tournaments are not "NORMAL" 14 year old girl things. Sounds like you push her outside of soccer too.

Anonymous said...

Those who think ECNL will be alone at 2nd tier below DA next year are delusional. First of all the majority of the ECNL players are just going to move up to be the DA Team at their club and the current NPL players at those ECNL Clubs will move up to their ECNL Teams. Have you seen the current NPL Teams from the ECNL clubs play. Other than PDA Ajax they are all weak, much weaker than the top NPL Teams out there. The college coaches go to the ECNL events now because they have the most elite players in one place. As soon as those girls move on to the DA the traditional big showcase tournaments(Jeff Cup, as well as the National League events(Disney, CASL, Vegas Players Cup), will draw the most college coaches outside of the DA events.

Anonymous said...

3:33 how is giving back to the soccer community and your formor coach by helping coach his younger daughters team not normal ? I would hope most girls when asked to help would say yes . My daughter has morals ,appreciation, and loyalty for those around her . I would hope yours does as well .

As far as chess , it's something she enjoys for more mental stimulation . I'd rather have her doing that then out chasing boys around like some of these other girls .

Anonymous said...

4:01 how about the coaching vacuum - who takes care of the kids once the ECNL coaches move to GDA?

Anonymous said...

If you look at the various scores at the ECNL playoffs, it's clear that the Northeast teams were very competitive against teams from other major soccer states. I thought my daughters team played well, and I have no doubt they will be back next year. Great season ladies, we are very proud, enjoy your summer!

P.S. There were 80 top college coaches at our game on Saturday, which is pretty cool 😎

Anonymous said...

80 Top colleges wow! Let me get this straight Your game had 80 college scouts + the 20+ parents, and maybe another 15+ spectators. You had more attend than a NSWL league game. Hopefully they pull some girls right into the professional ranks and bypass college so those 80 colleges will not matter.

Anonymous said...

Not if you attend a Portland or Orlando Pride game. lol

Anonymous said...

Good luck to Rush and Wildcats at Region I this weekend. I put one of them, Pipeline or LVU in semi-finals. With FC Stars depending on the group Stars brings with them. It is locked roster.

Anonymous said...

We would kill both of those teams, just saying....

Anonymous said...

"We"??? Hope you're a player and not a parent living through their kid.

Anonymous said...

Here we go! GDA vs. ECNL. vs. Region 1 vs. NPL: Let the debates begin!

Anonymous said...

We, as in I take some credit for it, yes we. I saw at an early age, that she would be great. Don’t I get some credit???

Anonymous said...

As of today
1. ECNL - Top level
2. NPL - Top/Mid level mix
3. Region 1 - Mid/low level

As of the Fall 2017 (like it or not)

1. GDA - Top level
2. ECNL - Top for most (slight drop in play)
3. NPL - Mid for most teams (slight drop in play)
4. Region 1 = Recreation (large drop)

Anonymous said...

I agree with myself...

Anonymous said...

3:19 sorry but top Region 1 teams are stronger than NPL teams and leagues. They are just as equal to top ECNL teams.

Anonymous said...

3:22. Not so. They are equal to some mid ECNL teams, better than some bottom ECNL teams, but not equal to top ECNL teams such as Breakers, Stars, PDA, good PF teams.

Anonymous said...

The 80 college coaches were not there to look at your daughter and the 20 seconds they glanced her way, they weren't impressed. They have their list of targets unfortunately maybe next year for her , but she can always attend the ID camp for $395.00 and get to know the team chef and physio.

Thats cool you went away for 6 days, several thousand bucks, and thought it was "cool" that 80 college coaches were there looking at specific other girls.

We have differing opinions of cool.

Anonymous said...

I'll defend a little here. Coaches do go with "targets" in mind but end up walking away more times than you may want to believe with interest in another player. I've seen it happen many times over the years.

Anonymous said...

4:07 - well, didn't spend thousands and have been getting e-mails past several days from her club coach re interest and checked out some colleges while out there. And, oh, met some NWSL players at the event. My kid was thrilled. So yep, very cool.

Anonymous said...

The NPL teams that are affiliated with the ECNL teams are aweful. Top regular NPL teams are better than them.

Anonymous said...

Ah come on. we are planning on attending the Farmer's Market in Spotsylvania. bet you didn't do that?

Anonymous said...

Does U.S. Region 1 post the attending college scouts anywhere. Can't seem to find it?

Anonymous said...

Here is the list of college coaches attending the R1 championships in Virginia...

Anonymous said...

3:19 acting like another ECNL snob parent living through their kid. Plenty of strong teams in R1 championships, and the top half of them compete well against strong ECNL clubs and beat the weaker ones.

Anonymous said...

ECNL who? That ship has sailed.

Anonymous said...

Cleaning up

2:39 We all live through our kids as well as living our own lives

4:07 You're a douche

Good luck to local NJ teams at Region 1

Anonymous said...

Cleaning up. lol

Anonymous said...

4:07, you seem a little bitter, why the mocking? The poster was being honest, my daughter was also there, and he/she was not lying, its true, tons and tons of D1 schools. At this point, its imperative that more coaches means more chances, its that simple.

Just like you, simple.

Region-1 (ERL) will be even worse next season. As teams slide into vacant NPL slots so will low flight ERL teams move up to top ERL flight. More town teams will enter ERL and quality will fall. USYS is on they way out and this so called "elite" league is a prime example. It just can't compete with ECNL. I am all for kids playing at their level and giving everyone an opportunity but lets not pretend it's something that is isn't. Too much travel to play subpar teams. Not for me but to each his own.

Anonymous said...

Would rather be in National League than NPL any day.

Anonymous said...

don't NPL teams compete in nat'l league, too, and state cups to compete in the regional tourneys? My understanding is the only teams that are restricted from competing in these are ECNL.

Anonymous said...

10:29 Only if they qualify.

Anonymous said...

Isn't that true for any team entered in these events including non-NPL? Only if they qualify? Or is this a pay your fee and you're in thing?

Anonymous said...

Certainly not pay and you're in. Found this for your lunchtime reading.

Got it. All of these are by application not their league, right?
Nat'l league/ERL, state cup winners and wildcards boys and girls are in from what I read.
But aren't state cups where you pay a fee and get in for USYS and NPL teams if you play JAGS or PAGS or whatever the state associated qualifying league is?

Anonymous said...

Oh, forgot - Good luck to all the Region 1 teams, girls and boys.

They will do all they need to do to make it the premier league. they can never allow their DA to be a secondary league to anyone. they will alienate folks, they will push the limits. high school waivers will be a thing of the past in another year, tolerated now because they need talent. they'll allow these partnerships for a while, but that too will go away. what heavy weight ever wants to share dinner with another? There is no second best. you're either tops or be content doing it another way. Like the boys, GdA will be tops in short order.

Anonymous said...

Yeah and like the boys DA has been failing. U.S. still can't compete against the world, and please don't say it takes time. Boys DA has been around for some time and U.S. men's teams are in no better shape than they were 15 years ago.

When MLS realize they can make more money on there own they will branch out themselves away from DA just like the European clubs do. I can see in 10 years MLS clubs creating there own leagues within each club's surrounding area's.

Anonymous said...

10:04 I can see that.

If you watched the FCC/Fire game on Wednesday/ESPN you were treated to a great game. You had the Fire probably the best team in the MLS if you like possession soccer they had about 80% of the possession and so many chances to score a goal. FCC playing at home in front of 30+ thousand fans (yes they are D2) played with 3 CBs kept their shape and countered or as many like to say kick and run they also had chances. Great goalie play kept the game 0-0 and PKs decided a winner and yes David won. Really was a great game, prior to this year we never had d2 teams put 30k in the seats. MLS has been around for over 20 years and just finally we are seeing how much soccer has grown in our country. Do not judge the Boys DA after just 6, we have plenty to learn and we are going down the right path.

MLS just needs to relegate a few teams to have an 18 team MLS and an 18 team MLS2 this will expand the game create a great atmosphere like the one in Cincinnati on Wednesday for our kids to truly fall in love with this game. I also wish the NWSL becomes WMLS and all the MLS clubs put a team out there.

Are USYS Region 1 playoff scores real? FC Stars 10-0 win, Rush Blue 9-0, is this a joke?? I don't think my daughters ECNL team would lose that bad to Sky Blue FC, maybe over 3 games, but still, they will probably get more calls, for flopping. A total disgrace to the losing teams, NO one wants to drive 300 miles, and get clobbered like that. RI team dinner last night must of f been forgettable. 😭

Anonymous said...

Must be your first Rodeo 7:36. WV, ME, VT, RI are all notorious for getting hammered at Region 1. Waste of time playing those teams for the most part but i'm sure it's the same in R2-3-4.

Anonymous said...

7:36 perhaps the wildcats will be able to beat one of those.

Anonymous said...

Wildcats comIng home early. 0-2 after two days.

Anonymous said...

Kitty Kats falling to real teams once again such a shame. Kitty Kat parents just don't get it!

Anonymous said...

They get it moron, they are doing the best they can, look for better results at the National Cup, they might be a Finalist there, or even a champion. Crappy Massapequa team should fold quickly, hope wildcats finally succeed.

The #1 ranked team on the Globe goes down to LOUDOUN 02 RED (VA) 3-5, I am completely shocked, and Saddened. Oh well, maybe you guys can go to the NJ shore today, ahhhhh, maybe not, maybe stay in Maryland??

NJ Rush Blue lost to Loudin?

Yes, Loudoun Red VA beat NJ Rush today and will play Beach FC also from Virginia in the finals of USYS Region 1 championships tomorrow

Virginia soccer sucks, nuff said.

I read that Chris Christie was coaching the Rush team, figures.

5:39 Virginia soccer sucks? Could you be any more of a classless fool?

Sorry Christie was the whale on the now private beach that he closed - Island Beach, NJ so it had to be someone else coaching. Sorry.

Loudoun 02G Red are your Region 1 USYS Champions

Congrats, but no way do they beat my daughters ECNL team, no way, no how...

Anonymous said...

Either team will beat most ECNL teams

Anonymous said...

9:02, what do you base that on, any results against decent ECNL teams?

Anonymous said...

Is that the same Loudon 02's that PAC beat 4-0?

Anonymous said...

Memorial day weekend PAC beat Loudon Red 4-0.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Loudoun played two ECNL teams much earlier this year in the fall. Beat Bethesda and lost to World Class. Based on GotSoccer they beat Pipeline this spring and then went on a strong run to finish the year with wins over Lehigh Valley and NJ Rush Blue. The PAC loss looks like an anomaly.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. Those are good results. Bethesda ecnl a quality win for Loudin

Anonymous said...

Bethesda ECNL is NOT a decent ECNL team, they were 4-10-2 this past season, but given the stupidity of this thread, I will give them the benefit of doubt, good job Loudoun, enjoy your accomplishment!!

Rush blue coach will burn that team out. 31 games this spring plus whatever isn't shown on gotsoccer. That's an absurd number of games, especially for a team that has no clue how to control the pace of a game. It's 90 minutes of full speed kick ball. That just leads to overuse injuries and burnout.

Anonymous said...

Needham, up in Massachusetts...

Anonymous said...

Agree that 30-40 games in a season is too many and not healthy for the players, but wouldnt describe Rush blue as full speed kickball. Play more direct than some teams, but definitively have technical players. Can't win against strong U15 teams consistently like Rush does by playing kickball.

Anonymous said...

Have to give credit where credit is due, the Rush team has some extremely strong players. But, looking at the roster which I was not aware of is its a young team. Mostly 03's and even two 04's one of which is their keeper. Don't know the coach but he seems to be doing something right to win what they do with a younger team. Good luck next year. Fun team to follow.

Anonymous said...

Here we go again and debate about kick and run! Please stop at this age every team knows and has a style for success. Kick and Run to me is having a center back or goalie punt the ball into the opponent's side and having 3 forwards chase it.

No way Rush or other teams are doing this every time they touch the ball as 9:35 just stated give credit where credit is due. Teams at this age mix up there style and maybe you see the kick and run once in while but having a young team like that move the ball well is all about coaching and chemistry.

Anonymous said...

@9:35 AM: We played Rush this Spring, they are a great team. The young keeper you speak of cannot be 04' she is the tallest girl on the team. God bless her if she is an 04' she is extremely good. Shut us out. Does anyone know where she will play in High School?

Anonymous said...

"kick and Run" is an excuse used by possession (indirect) teams who lose to a team who worked harder. Don't give me that "we lost but played soccer" crap.

Sitting behind the ball and playing forward to a fast striker on counter attack is direct soccer. Aka Short-Short-Long. It is used by teams who have speed, power, size, and the fight to work hard. They may lack some skill but have the athletic ability to overcome it. It is also called American soccer. In Europe, they lack the talent pool and therefore lack the dynamic athletic ability at all 11 spots. They must play possession to make up for their own limitations. They spend much more time away from practice with a ball at their feet so their first touch will be much better across the pond. And it will be as long as basketball, softball, and lawn darts takes us away from soccer pick-up games. We are way more athletic and are better suited for indirect play. Trainers with accents are starting to figure this out now. Why make us play a system for the Dutch when we don't have to. You should play towards your strength.

Stop whining and making excuses. I am sick of hearing it. The only determining factor of win or loss is who puts the most balls in the other teams goal!!!

MNT, WNT, MLS, and NWSL all play very direct soccer!!!!

Anonymous said...

when a striker has to find where a ball is going, that's kick and run. kicking up the field without purpose is kick and run. i see it in high school too where a lot of kids are not soccer players. no soccer skill needed for this style.

Anonymous said...

it's like hitting a ball with a racket so it lands somewhere on the other side of the net and calling it tennis. not even close.

Anonymous said...

a long, direct ball isn't kick and run. but don't kid yourself. some teams do play kick and run.

Anonymous said...

I agree with 12:49. We should embrace mediocrity.

Anonymous said...

I heard the Rush GK was an 07, amazing, former circus performer! So eveyone loves SJEB Rush Blue, they are a great team, and this, and that, and we played them, and crap. If they are so great they would be going to Nationals, not Long Dong.

Anonymous said...

12:49 - Well put. I am tired of hearing we lost but we played better soccer. The goal is very simple. Put the ball in the net more times than the other team. Doesn't matter how you do it. I've seen Rush many times. They are very good team and well coached. We have jokers in NJ stealing money from parents who are teaching their kids how to dance with the ball, doing nut megs and useless step overs. All with their head down and then posting these videos on social media.

Anonymous said...

LOL. The North Koreans made us look silly last fall with our direct game. You can have elite athletes at every position and a very good possession/passing (Tiki Taka) team will make them look silly every time.

Anonymous said...

you are right, 1:50
long duck dong is still recovering with the geek and jake on sixteen candles. molly ringwald was at the game, too.

Anonymous said...

when you're not the strongest and the fastest - that useless stepover is the difference if you can put the ball in the net.

Anonymous said...

Let me re-check these scenario's again:
Team A: Plays (Tiki Taka) soccer keeps possession with great skill players but can't put the ball in the net to win. Let's say they are Rank 100 on GS
Team B: Plays a more direct game mixes it up with kick and run long ball and ball movement from the backs. Let's say they are Rank top 5 on GS

Team A parents spend $ to sit home and not get invited to big showcases for college to watch and Team A paying the same $ get's invited to showcases and has 10-20 scouts watching.

Which team would you pick for your daughter. Bottom line it doesn't matter direct or not direct winning is winning and leads to exposure. Isn't that what you should be looking for at this specific age not a local tournament with a handful of D3 coaches coming to watch.

Anonymous said...

Looks like team A is the best, and worst, of both worlds....

Anonymous said...

523pm. Ha. Now that's funny. Watch a real game and see how many stepovers are performed. ZERO.

Anonymous said...

or maybe get them on an ECNL team and have 5 coaches at practices and 50+ at tourneys. btw - the ECNL team is probably ranked pretty low in GSP too as they don't use them.

I have been coaching soccer for 30 years at all levels and in my opinion you coach a system but also to the strengths of the players you have. There is a time for possession and a time for direct play. I have played against teams that definitely emulate the "Joga bonito" and other teams that use fast players on the wings and big legs in the back. Comparing ECNL possession teams to what some are calling kick and run non-ECNL teams is apples and oranges, because you can flip styles and have kick and run ECNL teams. With the different leagues and the crowning of multiple national champions throughout causes a pride of league and the nonsense that goes on here. I know my daughter is not in the elite top tier but she is a recognizable player in her position. Just like others I have seen play who weren't on the right team or with the right club. A lot of the speculation on this board is the same speculation that goes on building the teams. some clubs/coaches actually have a vision and select players based on their vision of play, other coaches just load up with recognizable talent and coach to win, and whether that is kick and run or possession doesn't matter. Recognition at that next level is based on relationship, reputation and ability. And yes being at the right showcase at the right time.

Anonymous said...

1043pm. Easy there Messi I mean Average Game. Watch the next USWNT game. Joke. Put the ball in the net and stop dancing with it with your head down.

Anonymous said...

Agree! 8:30 bottom line Team B puts the ball in the net what college coach wouldn't want that. You can find a million players that know how to dance with the ball, but if you can't put the ball in the net what does it matter.

Just like any other sport you can catch a football but if you can't catch it in the end zone what does it matter, you can dribble a basketball like no other but if you can't shoot than what does it matter. Scouts look for girls that can play multiple positions and can drill that ball in the back of the net. Sorry but all that dancing leading to a turn over bugs me so much. Go to dance school then.

My daughter sat in on a college seminar and the coach said.

"Do not send me videos of scissors, step-overs, juggling, or trick shots into garbage cans. Those are the first I delete."

Nobody cares is you can do a Maradona or rainbow at midfield with no defender on you. It is actually selfish and egotistical play that college coaches hate! To them, the see a problem in the locker room and training field with that kind of player. They want team players!

Are you kidding me!!!

A entire generation of US kids introduced to some of the greatest players in the world. Pelé, Bobby Moore, John Wark, Osvaldo Ardiles, Kazimierz Deyna, Søren Lindsted, Paul Van Himst, Werner Roth, Mike Summerbee, Hallvar Thoresen, Russell Osman, Kevin O'Callaghan, Co Prins, Laurie Sivell, Robin Turner, Kevin Beattie, and Paul Cooper.

The move came out in 1981. Just when soccer was starting to blossom in the US. We owe everything to Sly. He gave us hope with Rocky, pride with Rambo, and Soccer with Hatch.

HaHa the creation of DA has set us back for a years as well. Please tell how it has gotten the boys side better and many girls will flock away from it in due time.

The U-20 Boys made it to world cup quarterfinals. That is not too shabby!

They also made history by defeating Honduras 5-3 on penalty kicks to earn the U.S. its first CONCACAF title at the U-20.

Food for thought:
The top 9 in the EPL table had the highest number of passes and the highest possession time and the highest number of goals. A successful team plays as a team, keeps compact in possession and exploits opportunities. While kick and run can put a few goals in the back of the net it's the players that can play steady and be patient on the ball while also thinking about the first touch and the next pass. College coaches are looking for these skills. The best ID camp my daughter went to (and the college she committed to) had the coach on the field during the games pointing out possession opportunities, correcting the decision to play a long ball out of the back to no-one and field awareness. At the start of the one camp a lot of the girls were playing dribble step-over cryuff moves, and losing possession by the end they were receiving and sending touch passes down the field. My daughter is a keeper and her style is distribute first, long ball second. This was fortunate as it was the method preferred not only by this coach but by others as well. It's great to have some footskills to get out of trouble and the occaisional "Oh $#!+" nutmeg is fun to watch, but trying this and losing possession will not get you too many looks.

"Silent September" for all South Carolina youth soccer matches. New rule for one month. "No cheering, no jeering." Parents get two warnings and then kicked out! (reported by CNN)

Good Rule? It will keep more refs and more refs mean bigger pool to pick from for big games.

Also, Pele: Birth of a Legend (2016) is a MUST see. It shows how robotic and stuffy non-creative soccer almost ruined the greatest player ever!

Anonymous said...

Some fair comments here.

Sadly it seems like the kid on our team that is getting the most looks turns it over a tremendous amount. I think 80% of forward touches. Not sure what game our coaches and college coaches are watching but a top player needs to be able to hold possession and not turn it over on the vast majority of touches. Constant turn over at midfield just doesnt work.

I think the maradonna at midfield is also an issue. These moves are great to have in the tool box but need to be able to use them functionally. I think there are only a handful in the state that can do this.

Sadly the college system although changing still rewards the kick and run play. Just a few years ago unc was alone at the top bombing balls to their superior athletes. Now you are seeing more teams play better posession soccer and more teams that will win championships. Watch the national championship game usc vs wvu some great soccer played at both schools. But this is the exception not the rule.

Anonymous said...

I agree with all of this. If you cannot finish you are not that good. I have seen it many times and recently as well. you can dribble, be fast, but if you are hitting the post, shooting over the net, you are not a finisher and that is a big problem. With great goal keepers, technology, you have to crash the net and score many goals. I don't know how you accomplish that, each team would have to figure it out, but that is certainly a game changer. 2 to 3 goals in soccer is typically insurmountable. Look at the scores of games in our age group, and even look at Region 1 scores. Many goals scored.

Its going to be Solar Chelsea vs. So Cal Blues, both are aggressive and fast. We watched both play in Rockford, and honestly my daughter is just as tactical/technical as any of those girls, but she lacks flat-out beast-speed. So if you were a D1 coach, which would you take, and why?

Same level of play, except exceptional speed
Same grades/scores
Same extra stuff

You gets an offer?

Anonymous said...

4:44 Exactly my point aggressive, strong, fast and puts the ball in the net or win's 50/50 balls in the back or mid those girls will get over with any D1 coach than a dancer that likes to ball hog.

This has been America's style and what has become a staple of success the last decade and half which led to Gold Medals, World Cups, etc. Why try to change it because the powers discussed with other countries and they put it in there heads the other countries are catching up, forget that let them keep chasing good ole U.S.A! Sorry I'm big believer don't touch what's not broke and stick with it until otherwise.

certain things can't be coached. they are genetic like speed, size, physical ability, athleticism, even iq.
a kid can be taught technical skills and soccer iq, but you can't coach tall, fast and athletic if it isn't in their dna already. those kids always get chosen in any sport.

i wasn't dissing short people or their work ethic. genetically gifted can't be coached. you must have dwarfs in your family. sorry to have hit a nerve.
btw - tall, fast and athletic kids can also have very good work ethics, too. it's called self discipline and motivation.

and never said this had anything to do with my kid. she happens to be quite skilled. if you are tall, fast, skilled and athletic you tend to get picked out pretty quickly.
