"Wildcat player moving to PDA storm. Any truth to it?"Yes.
Wildcat coach sounding more desperate than usual for attention. Must be feeling that EDP crown slipping away too with all his chatter about wait till next year. Those two new girls have no idea what they stepped in.
FSA Navy is a very good team, fast, patient, and smart, and it's true they won the tournament, but they lost to NYSC 1-0, so your prediction based upon what you wrote, was wrong dude, and please don't extrapolate about what beat actually means, it's senseless, and I am not interested in debating it, thanks for your update!
"With current injuries and short roster leaving wildcats with only 12 players and 1 sub all weekend they still clearly belonged"Making excuses. No one feels sorry. All teams have injuries. It's more a factor of no one wanting to play there - players leaving mid season say a it all." Now with with new players(center back and center mid from NJ force already committed) plus other quality players still contending at current tryouts for remaining 4 roster spots"Weak promotion. Still holding tryouts because no one wants to play there. Exploiting the fact that a nearby high level team folded and grabbed a couple of their players. They will be the next to leave mid season.
West Chester Parent, did you happen to see any other games? NJ teams?
FSA NAVY won the flight. Where was Calvert? I said the favorites would be FSA and NYSC? Who were both number 1 & 2 Mr I don't wan to debate? I was called clueless because I didn't believe the GS rank for Calvert. Was Calvert 1 or 2? Mr Clueless Out
There goes the Wildcat coach back at it again, creating all attention to himself & none of it positive. The team apparently has a nice weekend & he comes here advertising about new players coming over, tryouts & making all sorts of excuses as to why they did not win it all in PA.
slipping away? We shall see very soon.
Please keep the insults coming. We count on you to continue to give us bulletin board material and it plays into the us vs everyone mentality we bring to continue to prove you all wrong. It really helps our team come with great determination to beat you and motivates us to work harder in training and preparation.See you all over the next 2 weeks.Your help has been very instrumental in our rise as a team and we hope you continue to feed our fire. Thanks again for all your help!
Hey 9:10, I have no issue with your team. Strive when everyone says you will notDo you have any feedback on other NJ teams that played this weekend. Did you see any NJX games. Hearing they can not play day in and day out vs top clubs.
No, I only saw the teams that we played against, so the only NJ team I saw was NJX. NJX was much bigger than us and had some players who really tackled well and could send the ball from sideline to sideline. Their best chances came in the first half and with some better finishing they could have gotten a goal or two. Our defense had to really swarm their forwards in order to stop them. Their tall center mid is a nice player. They had a defensive breakdown near the end of the first half and our striker was able to slalom though a couple defenders and put one in off the post. In the second half NJX seemed out of gas and mostly played long balls forward. We scored again after we got a free kick in between the arc and the circle. Ball was put into the box and eventually pushed in. Call that led to the direct kick was a little ticky tacky. One of our smaller players got nudged from behind, which caused her to step on the ball and go flying. If she doesn't step on the ball, probably no call. Breakers were the best team we played. Lots of skilled players, and bigger than us. Their striker is one of those players who seems to have an invisible cord attached between her feet and the ball. Lots of skill. We played them evenly in the first half, and scored on a nice through ball. They equalized almost immediately just before the half. Second half was all Breakers and when we occasionally could bring the ball forward, their counterattack was devastating. Some better placed finishing by them we probably lose 3-1. We held on for the tie and felt like we stole one. World Class game was a physical mess. Players tumbling everywhere and refs not controlling the game. World Class scored late in the second half but it was called offside. Parents were unhappy about it but the World Class coach didn't complain much so I assume it was an accurate call. In any event, it was a relief to us as we needed the tie to advance to semis. If either MF or EM had won their game, they'd have advanced instead. Crew Jrs are the rare team that is faster and smaller than us. They play a non-physical possession style like we prefer to play. We played them evenly even with only ten players. Our keeper got a red card when she went out to stop a breakaway and got all player and no ball. Crew scored on the PK that was awarded. Second half was wide open with us pressing forward and Crew counter attacking. We lost, but it was my favorite game of the weekend.
No, we are only focusing on our own team and preparing hard for next 2 EDP games. We do not disrespect or denigrate our opponents, nor do we try and minimize their accomplishments to make ourselves look better at their expense or hurl insults at other teams and coaches. Our competition has all that covered.
9:23 thanks for update. Do you feel NJX plays to direct? Based on some of your comments, it seemed this way
I would like to weigh in about some of these u12 teams that I have observed over the course of last 8 months. There are clearly a lot of parents on this site with axes' to grind and it shows in their negative posts.Quick commentary on a few teams in the region.Breakers: Good overall team but are carried by two impact players at this point. There brand or style of soccer is not particularly impressive in that they repeat the same two or three plays to set up their quality chances. Good defense, weak midfield , nice striking tandem. (Regional player plays for this team)Stars of Mass:Very well Balanced team that will be very strong in the coming years as the coach is setting the proper foundation. If you break this team down, you can see Triangles of support to support person with ball to give many options. nice defense, needs to finish a bit more and a good solid midfield.East meadow: Excellent goalie with a strong midfield ( regional player plays for this team)Team is too predictable as they seems to rely on one or two girls. As team gets older they will find that their brand of soccer is not sustainable and will eventually fade as a team.Worldclass. Strong defense, strong midfield, no finisher. brand of soccer is more of a pressing counter attack style. technical skills seem to be average.Nj Crush: Strong Physical athletes , Direct style of play. Weak midfield, but strong defense.Wildcats:(Team everyone loves to hate)Straight over the top with lots of good defensive tactics as they like to tackle in bunches and the coach has worked on physicality with their players .Good on set pieces, and some players are technical, good speed on the side. There is room for this brand of soccer and it can be quite effective. ( As a player, you just have to ask if this is how you want to be trained in the formative years)NJX- Physical, not afraid to mix it up ,direct over the top, does not work through the middle but will go down the side and direct to forwards. Strong defense, fast physical striker ( some really good impact players ) Technical skills average.NYC Soccer Club: I do like this team and what the coach is trying to do:Short passes and movement, works through a very good midfield, another team where you can see the foundation is being set. Team will get better.(some good impact players) PDA. Very Technical . Short crisp passes constantly creating passing lanes, sometimes with no purpose. although very technical, they have some weaknesses in the number of athletes they possess.(Regional players play for this team)Team sure to improve as other impact players come to the PDA program.Matchfit: Good solid team with players that have been together for a while. Good Technical skills, but the quality of player varies, No real finisher , good midfield and quality goalie. Team moves the ball well! Many styles of play and no one club is so dominate at this point. The usual suspects will continue to get better and yes even teams like the wildcats will be top contenders, although will have tough time competing with the elite teams at the older age groups. You as a parent have to choose how you want your daughter to be trained in the formative years.
NJX too direct? Hard to say. They played possession and over the top in the first half pretty effectively. Like I said, in second half they were tired and resorted to mostly direct play to the fast forwards. If I had a criticism it would be that they need to play with some more patience and use the full width of the field to build an attack. I didn't see a lot of switching fields through the defense or backward passes. They're game is to get it forward, either through possession in the midfield or over the top, as fast as they can.
Ugh. Their game. Not they're game.
Well, my prediction was close. Breakers 2 Crew Jrs 0.
9:37 No don't feel NJX is too direct at all.We don't believe like other coaches and parents on this site that development is about playing only 1 certain way.Elite players, coaches and their teams must have have the ability to adjust their style to different opponents and conditions(size, skill level and speed of opponent, their style of play and strengths and weaknesses, individual matchups, size and condition of field, weather, score and time remaining, etc).Sometimes you have to figure out a way to win against the run of play(convert restarts, high pressure, low pressure, etc). The continued insistence on this site that there is only one "right" way to play and develop and that's it must be strictly adhered to under all conditions(field, score, opponent.weather, etc) is to me laughable. Elite players need to be versatile and able to adapt to those different game conditions, styles and speeds of play, and opponents in order to get a necessary result. This is something that if not experienced early in their development then asked to do it later on will be uncomfortable for a rigid player steeped in only one system of play("system player") later on in her careers. We also do not believe in teaching our players and team that certain games(state cup and tournaments) are important and other games(league games) are meaningless and glorified scrimmages and only for "development and winning doesn't matter". In order to develop as an elite player(if we are honest that is the goal of every coach, parent and their player on this site), a player must develop a "Winners Mentality" as well as a 'Warriors Mentality".This means teaching players at a young age they must "Strive their best to win" each time they step on the field for a game. Winning isn't the only goal but "striving your best to win" is necessary each and every time out.You cannot turn this mentality on for certain games(state cup and tournaments) and off for others(league games). Finally we don't agree with the other teams coaches and parents on this site who openly declare that the fact that their subs played significant minutes is a sure sign that the game was meaningless and a "glorified scrimmage".What kind of message does this send to your subs?We believe that only players who can contribute in each and every game regardless of the games importance should be carded at this level. We believe filling a roster with players who are not ready just to make a number of 18, (maybe for financial purposes for the clubs business side) is unfair to those players who are "outside the rotation" for the important games". "Every player" we card plays in every game. That is why we only carded 14 at the beginning of this U12 year.We try to give everyone at least 25% of every game. We have NEVER sat a carded, healthy player for an entire game.No matter how "Important" that game was.EVER.To each his own.
Honestly this guy comes across much better and more knowledgeable than the personal venom coming from his opponents/competitors.the decibel level and shrillness of his and his teams critics makes you wonder if it's fear that drives them. This years results and reading the recent posts from the different teams in new jersey's coaches and parents thus far are starting to make me wonder if that fear is not only real but understandable moving forward in this age group .
10:41What club or team is this that you speak of? I want my daughter there. Its definitely not njx they have entitlements there. Certain kids play the entire game and 4 or 5 rotate. Piss poor management of personnel. I don't think this utopia you speak of exists in Nj. Please let us know, I think a few people would be interested.
10:41I do like your post. It shows some real knowledge of the game. You must be a coach.Although most of what you say I agree with, I think you must be careful in the training of our young elite players.I hope that you will agree that no matter the style a coach chooses to implement, the young player should be extremely technical with the ball. Theoretically, you should not be able to tell the difference by observing a player's technical abilities, between a young player that plays possession quick touch to passing to triangles that moves the ball up and down the field from a more direct style of play. The player that plays in both these systems should be of similar technical quality. After all, a good coach's primary objective should be to develop the player technically from u8 to U13. However, what is so often the case, in Youth soccer, is that the level of technical ability is directly correlated with the system of play, the coach chooses early on in developing their players.Too many short cuts in the development path. I have seen team's sacrifice playing out of the back and playing possession to play in a more direct style, all for the sake of winning. The coach will say, "you don't have to play possession, you can teach the young soccer player another way." The truth of the matter is that that coach is simply short cutting the system so that he may win the game now. They in essence take short cuts because certain styles of play are less technically demanding and require less skill on the ball and in passing and game IQ then it more direct over the top counterpart. He is either under pressure by club or parents-or he is simply an inferior coach. I do not argue that finished equally skilled players should be able to play in multiple systems. However, Its obvious to me, that the most skilled youth players need to develop under a philosophy that requires technical skill foundation even if the result is not there early on because only those kids will eventually have the foundation to play at the highest level in any system needed to win the game.
"They in essence take short cuts because certain styles of play are less technically demanding and require less skill on the ball and in passing and game IQ then it more direct over the top counterpart."This should read "than its more Possession system of play"
11:47 I agree completely that technical development is paramount and we focus on that in training and encourage all of our players to work on their skills outside of training as well. We spend much of our training time on 1 touch combination play, passing and moving, outside backs overlapping, swinging the ball around the back, building out of the back, etc. We try and employ those tactics whenever we can and had some very good shotr passing combos and overlaps this weekend at the highest level of comp. My point is that I see programs who insist on playing one style regardless of tactics employed by other teams even when those tactics make it nearly impossible for a short passing game out of the back to succeed.they will certainly not have coaches that force their style regardless of the matchup and game conditions at the higher levels and ages so to what purpose is stubbornly playing that same style under all conditions appropriate to a very young players development even when that style is not favorable to the conditions of that particular game and opponent. Are you arguing that short passing, possession play and building out of the back should be the ONLY system used by every coach in every game? How then will any different style of play and the technical abilities like long ball service, switching the field with a long diagonal ball, quick strike counter attacks, bypassing midfield when appropriate(playing back to front directly), attacking the end line with a long diagonal ball to wings from center midfielders serving early balls from the neutral third, then crossing and offensive heading and volleying and half volleying crosses by strikers ever be developed? Are not these techniques that need to be practiced through repetition in training and developed as well? Are these not skills as well?Does development of these skills(long ball service, heading, switching the point diagonally, crossing, finishing restarts and crosses in the air and with volleys and half-volleys, defensive heading and defenders attacking ball at it's highest point to not allow air balls to bounce in their defensive box) not developed ONLY through repetition in training in the same way short passing, speed of play and possession games are employed in training to develop the short passing/possession game? I think you have the right general philosophy, but need to be less rigid and understand that OVERALL "Development of the WHOLE SPECTRUM of skills and styles of play should be the goal of the coach of young, aspiring elite players". This adjustment will make your training and coaching more effective and valuable TO your young players development and help you develop more complete and versatile players who will be better prepared for success at the next levels of age and play.I respect your opinions and your knowledge of the game as well.My advice after 25 years of coaching and training at this level would simply be to develop well rounded players who can fit into ANY system of play as we as coaches and trainers have no idea which system of play or philosophy of head coach they will play under and have to adjust to(even in the middle of their college careers when coaching changes are made) if they reach their goals of progressing to the college level.
Congratulations to Crush Tsunami White for winning their flight yesterday at DELCO
"Are you arguing that short passing, possession play and building out of the back should be the ONLY system used by every coach in every game?"No- My only argument is that there are not enough quality coaches that are teaching the game properly and all too often, they are training their players in such away that may show an immediate result by playing the ball forward as quickly as they can on a constant basis. These very same players that have looked very good in a less technically demanding system, seem lost, when they are asked to play a bit more with their technical skills( which can mean any number of skills- as you have given many examples..)I use the short pass merely as an example, I of course mean the "whole spectrum." of technical play.
A coach or someone who reads a lot and repeats stuff. I'll go with the latter.
Hey 12:21, is there an English translation for what you are saying? If so please provide because I didn't understand a word you said. Basically you lost me at "I agree completely".
That's the whole idea. to baffle you with coach speak when its really double talk. P'ing myself reading that commercial.
9:24 10:41 and 12:21 all wildcats coach.11:47 also seems to be a coach though not clear who or what program.Interesting discussion finally about serious soccer.welcome change to informative format that this site was to supposed to promote.Trolls, those bitter with an axe to grind and soccer ignorants have tried to intimidate and demean any person who dared to come on and engage in respectful soccer dialogue.I am glad there are a few coaches out there who refuse to be intimidated by those who are tough only when hiding behind their computers and protected by their anonymity.
How could the Wildcats Coach or parents come on here bragging?? when they got knocked out of Cup by Boca, a mosa team
12:44 then we are in completer agreement.Training should include repetition of all skills needed to play in different types of systems later on and style of play employed in each game should be that which will be effective tactically vs the type of opponent, system of play, individual matchups to exploit or prevent being exploited by, and the overall strengths and weaknesses of the opponent our team is playing in that particular game. This I believe will prepare our players for the type of tactics their coaches will employ at older ages vs the same types of systems and opponents at the higher and older levels.
12:55 No one is bragging?
Really 12:55 how is saying decent job at 1-1-1 in top flight bragging?
Top 8v8 bracketFC Rev 5 Penn Legacy 1Didn't see that coming. PAE teams dominated the 8v8 play, but only because we're the only state dumb enough to still be playing on the small field at this age.
Those wondering about HARFORD (MD)Pretty good weekend with a win and a tieAny reports from PDA event?
1-1-1 is about as average as you can be. So anonymous posting on a blog is motivation for 12 yo girls. Laughable-only one looking for validation is wildcat coach. How many more extra tryouts you gonna need?
Gotta say, Harleysville over Harford is an upset. I'd have picked Harford to win that bracket.
@12:21. What does through the hole every two minutes mean? Can someone play to feet once in awhile and is every backpass some type of soccer sin?Other team can't score if your team has the ball.......
NJX where o where are you?You win one game in NJ Cup, you were all over this blog stating best team in NJ, best team in Match Fit. Now where are you?
wildcats back passed to backs all weekend.Evidently your team was not in top flight at FC Delco. Is this TSF coach again knocking wildcats?
As new players continue to show up to tryouts why should wildcats end them prematurely? Many quality players looking to move now that other tryouts have reshuffled other top teams.NJX also still trying out new girls and njsa still recruiting to fill roster spots as well.Teams are not rostered for fall U13 until august so why stop adding good players who are still searching if you still have an open spot or two? Doesn't make sense if you can still improve depth and quality of roster for U13. Maybe your team moved to soon? We have tryouts tonight and wednesday this week.
2:24 Translation: no one wants to play with us so every night is a tryout if someone wants to come by we are interested.
Only time will tell.Let's wait and see what kind of final roster they come up with for next fall when tryouts are completed.
Delco shows no love to nycsl npl - puts STA in second flight while TR who plays in JAGS is in first flight with all PA teams. STA went 5-0 with a 17-1 diff - I think it's safe to say they put this team in the wrong flight.
@ 2:19And then what play over the top and avoid the midfield. So predictable its like a rerun of happy days. Zero creativity-
2:00Right here. What is there to talk about? I didn't see MF do anything this weekend that we haven't done. You keep putting this as NJX vs MF but we don't see it like that. It's you asses who keep up the comparing and non sense. We are not worried about MF Black or the ECNL BS. When u14 comes around, the best girls will be placed on that team. Regardless where they come from. We won 1 game this weekend and played teams that we do not play on a monthly basis. If you want to give credit to MF black for tying 3 games on a bracket that they were switched to, the so be it. They were switched there because they thought they could win it. Didn't happen, so keep giving them all the credit you want. It doesn't look good and the soccer from NJ was bad this weekend.
Harford MD in 3rd Flight at Delco had same record as Mercer and EM Sky Blue 1-1-1.Fo a top team in PAGS/MD not a really good showing when you break it down. This team should have won Group.
3:53 yet you remain unable to find a way stop them and they have only lost 3 games to nj teams all year at U12 out of over 40 games played. What were your teams results vs them this year coach.
4:06-True Dat.Gotta love coaches and parents who denigrate the playing styles of coaches and teams who they cannot beat on the field.
Thank God we are out of this parent madness; We are off to the ECNL!See YA.
3:56 first your team asked to have Wildcats moved from your flight to avoid playing them. Now you complain that the team you had moved out of one bracket to be replaced by the team in yours. Ended up moving to your bracket, After being moved several times. Next time do not avoid playing Wildcats. I saw Black play for first time and I love their style. Not yours
4:23You sound like an ass. I like their style not yours....Please, I like their uniforms and not yours. I like their coach and not yours and so on.Why would someone dodge the wildcats?
@ 4:06Boca figured it out pretty easily no?How many games have you tied that should have been easy wins? Just because you don't lose games you should win means what exactly?
Wildcat guy. U have nerve to talk about a teams style. We saw all the brutal elbows and hits you guys laid on Maryland. What is your style? All yournent long you had your center back boot the ball 30 yds up the field. Their was nothing special about that.
Let's go grammar police....It was written that way as sarcasm people.
maryland team was twice as big as wildcats all over the field.those girls were huge!Sorry if we roughed them up guys.first wildcats heard about anyone dodging them or them being moved out of flight.we don't have any info on that.that post wasn't from our camp.Sounds like form MF camp.
coaches and players are smart to adjust the level of physicality in their play to how much contact the refs are allowing in any particular game. The refs at delco were definitely not calling the games tight.
So 2 new players will upgrade someone's team "significantly" because they are "stud players...big, fast, strong, tough & very athletic", really? That is a slap in the face for the current center back & center mid hinting they not of this quality otherwise these 2 new players would not be significant upgrades. Also took note of first adjective used - "big". I thought size doesn't matter?
Our camp-hahahaThat's funny right thar:)
Only reason Crush in top bracket is because of one easy tournament. Look at GS rankings - a lot of action and no points. They will be put down in flights going forward.
its possible STA requested the lower bracket. Its a good way to get some points and have a fun lower stress weekend. There were plenty of emails sent by the tournament asking if teams were willing to move up or down to accomodate different requests. Its not always 100% about where the tournament places you.
there are still 8v8 tournaments at u12 in nj? why? i was talking to parents this weekend at delco from south & west & they envy us for going 11v11 at u11.
1:41 As an outsider looking at the 8v8 flight - It just came as a surprise to see a NYSCL NPL team in 2nd Flight and JAGS and PAGS D2 teams in the top flight.Requested or not - it just looked funny to me and I posted it. Why some people tried to spin it is beyond me.I don't see a team traveling out of state and requesting a lower flight but what do I know.PS. Lower flights at tournaments get you a few hundred points, that's not going to move a team a lot, so I don't buy the easy GS points argument, sorry.
2:16 I agree with you. People can talk up 8v8 all they want. 8v8 is great for training but when the game is played 11v11 is the way to go.11v11 vs 8v811v11 3 more players on the field.More kids play, since players will get gassed quicker (more ground to cover).Larger field more touches required to move the ball up the field. gone are the days of dribbling the entire field.8v8 more touches for mids and forwards only - games can quickly turn into a punt fest.
exactly 2:27, 8v8 & the such (like 3v3 kickit tourns) are for development. real team soccer is 11v11 & true fans of the game appreciate/understand that. best thing that ever happened to my daughter's development as a player was going to 11v11. question i have, starting u13 the girls go to bigger ball. i think its size 5? whatever it is, does this make a big difference? anything our girls should be doing now to prepare for this? coaches out there?
Looks like they were fine in the flight, won it and all games were close. Move on.
I have to say 8v8,7v7 5v5. or 3v3 helps the amount of extra touches on the ball as well as the confidence on the ball and the improvement technically of a team so I wouldn't bash playing 8v8 too much..remember it's about development like we are all saying. People bash the style of kick and run on here yet maybe that is because a team went 11v11 too soon and some players don't know anything else but too boot it because they don't know what to do when they get the ball MF I believe was 8v8 last yr and they are praised for their technical ability while NJX I'm guessing didn't play a lot of small sided games and get bashed for their style Whatever helps a kid develop and learn how to play the game and get to a higher level is what it should all be about at these young ages.
Well, what is MF Jaguars problem? Didn't see much technique from any of the MF teams this weekend.
2:34 Yes the size of the ball is 5 and it makes a HUGE difference Have the girls wear bigger cleats
Nah....1:4It was two easy tournaments
2:37 I will move on I was just saying going 5-0 with a 17:1 diff with the 1 coming in the final seemed odd to me that a NYCSL NPL team was placed in the 2nd Flight, that's all.2:34 I don't think it's that big a deal going to a size 5.2:52 have you seen any of the PA teams play? How many of them know how to move a ball and switch a field. How many times have you seen more than 5 passes completed? I think 8v8 is nice for training, as is 5v5 and 3v3 - because coaches aren't playing to win anything. Think about it, State Cups, Jefferson, Delco, Spirit all big events. I bet most of the teams that played in these events played a more direct game for the result instead of trying to develop their kids.Goalie punts the ball 2/3 of the field, Striker dribbles with ball and takes a shot.11v11 Goalie punts the ball 1/2 the field mids gain possession and start moving the ball side to side or to the way they are facing looking to create - more players involved more touches.11v11 field is larger, more space for players to play to ball into. I just don't buy the 8v8 has more touches argument. Just because you have less players on the field doesn't mean more touches, I just see teams playing more direct. But that's just my opinion.
2:57 obvious a parent that got cut from Match FitTechnique is exactly what the Black team is about. What colors did they wear game 1, game 2 and game 3 if you attend this weekend
4:54 - of course he/she didn't see those games. Just like all the other "reviews" this one is just a hater. I was at delco and watched 3 games from start to finish-my daughters. I saw bits and pieces of others. No way to see all the games and no way to form an opinion based on the small sampling. The only thing you should be concerned with is if your daughter and her team got better. And if you did come hours early and stay hours late to watch other teams play that's just a bit creepy.
"2:52 have you seen any of the PA teams play? How many of them know how to move a ball and switch a field. How many times have you seen more than 5 passes completed? I think 8v8 is nice for training, as is 5v5 and 3v3 - because coaches aren't playing to win anything. Think about it, State Cups, Jefferson, Delco, Spirit all big events. I bet most of the teams that played in these events played a more direct game for the result instead of trying to develop their kids."FWIW, West Chester, PA won Jeff Cup in 8v8 and was a semifinalist at Delco in 11v11. All the 8v8 over the past year does not seem to have hurt them much, at least results-wise. I have no idea if they can string five passes together. "Goalie punts the ball 2/3 of the field, Striker dribbles with ball and takes a shot."Now THIS is actually why I hate the 8v8 at U11. The goal kicks and punts all land in between the center circle and the penalty arc. Ridiculous, ugly soccer. If they insist on 8v8, then they should also insist on a "no kicks past midfield rule" for the keepers. I can't even imagine how bad it would be at U12.
5:08.I think you are projecting and only have interest in focusing on your daughter's team. I for one love to watch teams that play very technically at any age group. You don't see them so much at u12.You and your daughter should sit and watch a very technical team other than your daughters team. She might learn something.Dont be so " creepy"
So, who do we like this weekend?Crush Tsunami or NYSC, got a score??
5:39. I certainly do have most of my focus on my daughter's team. It is after all her team. The one we picked and the one that is teaching her how to play soccer the correct way. You, of course, can parent your daughter any way you see fit and spend your weekend on the field. I'm sure she would rather watch u12 soccer then spend time with her friends at the hotel. So. tell me which team team was the most technical? You watched 36 games (I stand corrected 39 since you stayed for the semis and the final).
4:54Black on SaturdayWhite on Sunday
Crush doesn't beat anyone, so must be NY
Really appreciate the DELCO reports from the new posters to this boardPlease come back once in a while
Well after watching njx this weekend its obvious who should be the ecnl team. Gonna go on alimb here and say njx does not win a game the rest of edp schedule. Might get a draw or two but no wins. I believe they have storm rage windcats and force left
Lady barons are not that good as expected after all this big talking. Technique and bla bla bla. Anything you do in the field has only one purporse : score a goal. To have sterile possession but not able to create scoring opportunity is a weakness . Jaguars are not even decent to comment. They cannot stop the ball or play one touch. U 11 match fit is a rec team as well as u13. They put a label " per ECNL" or " ECNL" and everybody jumps. A mediocre player is a mediocre player and will never be chosen just because of " status". This is youth development and what match fit is showing is business development . For that they are one of the best
Lady Barons?Who are you talking about?
Got Soccer should start taking points away for losing To many events in row. there are teams with 5 or 6 events played straight and showing all zeros. Looks pretty sad when viewing the team pages.
932 here's an idea instead of beating around the bush. Why not just man up and say what team you have a problem with?
He means Lady Falcons, not a big fan of MFA, I suspect?
Yes lady falcons, not a question of being a fan or not. Just tired of people selling something that is not there
MFA does not have a U11 team.
I am a proponent of 8v8 because it greatly improves technical skill. What I don't like is that the goalies become a much bigger part of the game.
Yes they do. Stunk it up in EDP last season.
10pm you should have your team play MF team, put your team to the test. Nothing to sell when this team is a top 2 team in NJ. PERIOD
Top 2 team in NJ?? Based on what ? Results? Performance in recent tournaments? You are selling an illusion
There is no top 2 - just a top 5
There's no top 5. There's Storm, then there's NJX and Wildcats, then maybe MF Black. Then whoever.
Crush is 5th team in the group, thpugh not #5I have no quibble if you think Wildcats have done enough to knock Rage back a notch to the next 5 (6 thru 10, with Ajax, GFA, etc)
6:14.I see you have gone from "creepy" to at least acknowledging that your kids might want to spend more time with her friends. At least , you have gone from "creepy" to at least " you now have better things to do.I'd say that's real progress. With my kids , we do both.I guess we have kids that are motivated by different experiences.
Don't forget Boca
Boca? Yes, its true, I love Boca, but it gets too hot this time of year, I much prefer Jupiter, better breeze.
Re: 8 v 8 and goalkeepingThere was one NJ team we saw where the GK did not punt the ball one time in the game .. Probably touching it a dozen timesIt was an obvious strategy implemented by the coaching staff to have the keeper learn to distribute the ballThis was not a team ever mentioned here as top ten
I, for one, absolutely love that strategy. Goalkeepers need to be more involved at this level distributing the ball, receiving passes, etc. The semi long punts end up 50/50 balls at best.
That's great to hear, 8:47. It also teaches the field players to build from the back.I wish there was a way to make "no punts" a requirement when playing 8v8, but the fact is the threat of a punt keeps the other team honest and prevents them from jumping the defenders as the goalie rolls the ball to them.
Yes, its called Futsal, and perhaps some more NJ girls should participate, what do you think, yes??
Can someone tell me when players should concentrate on just soccer rather than playing multiple sports. We had to girls on my daughter's team that had trampoline competitions the day prior to a game and they were both very sluggish and did poorly. When is it encouraged to choose or should they continue to play multiple sports? I hear mixed opinions amount this subject. IMO I think it's time to choose.
Playing out of the back should be taught by every club, but not implemented unless your backs are talented enough to move the ball forward without just booting it, otherwise what is the point, perhaps the GK for that team did not have a strong leg, some don’t, its always risky doing that, but its the way to go, live and learn, or live and get burned...
Ay our club, soccer is not only the main sport, its pretty much suggested that its the only sport.P.S. Don’ look for any sympathy from other parents if your child is injured playing another sport, it will fall on deaf ears.
The trampoline coach hates it when the girls have soccer the day before/day of a trampoline comp....12 is to young to demand specializationI heard recently that Cedar Stars demands that the boys play only soccer.....Tough to go along with this.
Saw BOCA rolled up on some rec team from NY and put in 9 goals. Thats classy
10:19, disagree, next.
10:19 totally agree but there is no winning this argument. Parents with kids focused on one sport - either due to the kid's intense desire to play that sport (great!) or because the kid's athletic skills may be somewhat limited (not great!). I believe in the multi sport kid for purposes of cross training and injury prevention. I also believe that skill picked up in one sport often translate well to another sport. I do have kids with athleticism that translates well into different events, but still there needs to be a primary focus sport. The primary focus sport wins in event of conflict. For us, primary is soccer and eventually my girls will have to choose the one sport they love and live with the selection. I hope that selection day comes well into high school, but realistically it will probably be in the next 12-24 months.
he trampoline coach hates it when the girls have soccer the day before/day of a trampoline comp....12 is to young to demand specializationI heard recently that Cedar Stars demands that the boys play only soccer.....Tough to go along with this."Simple solution to this. If you want to play multiple sports, play for a team that allows this and is willing to put up with a child that is tired during game day.If your child is committed to one sport, stay away from these teams and play for a club where soccer comes first. Leave all the multi sport athletes on one team and go to a place with like minded players. The coach will set the ground rules. Ask before you join the team. That is generally what happens anyway a sport becomes more demanding. It sounds like your child is ready to specialize.
You're out to lunch
The "you have to choose now" parent is the "we need to win this game" parent.Sad.
"Ask before you join the team"You are a paying customer. Do as you wish.(and yes, I agree.... a primary sport each season should be designated)
Primary sport is laughable and these kids are 12. What if they went to a pool party or just got back from vacation or oh no stayed up late texting to all hours or ate like crap and now has a stomach ache. I mean who cares. If that somehow cost your team the game then so what.Let them be kids first and everything else post.
I feel if you want to play multi sports do so on a town travel team.On an academy team you should be playing soccer full-time and committed to that.Parents and children are doing a lot more traveling and paying a lot more money to be on one of these teams. Therefore soccer should be the concentrated sport.
11:58, what a relief that you are not a family with our team, and to answer your question, I care.
Cedar stars has a different program structure and if they were paying my kids way i could understand them attaching some conditions.
If you care about a u-12 soccer game result your priorities are a little out there. What if your kid is not a top end player and costs the team a game that way? End result is the same just a different reason for the loss.
@12:20How do you know they aren't?
I too am glad 1158 is not on my daughter's team. You can go be a kid playing for rec. league. That sounds like it might be a good fit for you and your daughter.Be committed or don't play at a top level.
Wow there sure are some nut jobs on here! Top level at U12? Really? Probably more than half of these girls won't be on the same teams at 15 and quite a few might not even be playing soccer anymore! In about 8 years from now, when your daughter is in college, ask her if she remembers the score of one single game she played when she was 12! Funny how people have such different mentalities. It's amusing how some parents care so much more than the kids. Not that it matters but many people just want their kids to play a team sport for reasons besides just the number of wins they can chalk up - how about camaraderie, teaching responsibility, the health benefits, learning to work with a team, self discipline, learning how to deal with losses for later in life. The list goes on and on. Believe it or not, winning isn't everything for everybody!
Why does the preference for a commitment to soccer ahead of other sports when on an elite level team need to be driven by the need to win? For me it's 10x more about the development of the team and the damage to that development when girls are tied up with other commitments instead of practices. Trainers are limited when they're working with a short roster in practice on a regular basis, and that creates problems during the games. And again, I don't care if they win or lose, but if they look lost because there's inconsistent training, that's a problem for me. Too much money being paid.
Funny part will be when these non-committed u-12 girls come take your committed kids spot in a couple years at their "academy" when it actually matters. And don't think they wont kick you to the curb for a better player despite your funding/loyalty to their program.
1:09 I agree somewhat. you have to "care" that is where you are losing people with your argument. Yes only U12, however I have to tell you I do remember winning championships at 10,11, 12 etc. The last pitch in a baseball game, playing Queen "we are the champions" back in the 80's etc.who cares?? Do not ask my daughter if she cares, she will take you out and your daughter if you approach her the wrong way all day to win. here is a good quote so not to get confused with "winning is everything mentality" It is not something I have but here is where I am at now and my kids should be at by U8/9 for travel programs. "Danny Blanchflower in 1972The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It’s nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It’s about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."
Again. Elite level? Because you choose to pay a ton of money it's considered elite? Elite at 12 will not necessarily be elite 15-18. What's happening now will not necessarily be reflective of what's going on in a couple of years when it really matters! Unfortunately the youth soccer atmosphere in NJ changes constantly and when the next "best" club comes along, those that can will jump on that bandwagon and continue to shell out the dough for the prestige of being called elite!
That's fine. Go ahead and pick apart the words I use rather than the meaning behind my argument. I don't care if she's playing on a last place township team. If there's inconsistent attendance for training, it's going to be difficult for the team to improve. And 1:20pm, what exactly makes you think my daughter's position on the team is vulnerable or that she's at risk of losing it? Completely not the case. Again, not even remotely related to my concern. But keep twisting words and trying to put other people down. I hope I don't know any of you in real life. I'd hate to think I associate with such miserable people.
Kid can only play soccer - cant hack the other sportsSo DAD is upset.
I think many are assuming that because the kid is a multi sport athlete they must not be very good at one sport or another. What if that multi sport athlete is a GREAT player who actually happens to be talented enough to play another sport ALSO at a top level? Unusual? Not so much. Ask some of the top teams constantly talked about on this blog and you will find 2 or 3 kids on each roster that manages to balance this lifestyle without causing strife to their soccer teams. Great programs generally attract great talent.
Great topic! Can we move on to the next now?
Tryout Fallout...Lots of parents are waiting to tell current team/parents their child is leaving for another team. Any advice?
2:21, there is NO good way to bring this up, ifI were you I would tell 2-3 close parents, and let them tell the others, I would just leave quietly, nothing to prove to anyone, you’re doing this for your child, and if they don’t understand, screw them.
I would wait until current season is over so the girls can stay focused and there are no rumors and scuttlebut swirling around. I liken it to breaking up with someone and then hanging around for a few weeks, you know?
Yeah, duh, but I am giving in-season advice, besides most teams want a commitment from you now, not after the season is over.
My daughter has been playing soccer since she was 4 years old. When she was 8 she wanted to try out for softball, so I put her in a summer softball camp. She was very good at it but said it was boring. At 10 she wanted to try gymnastics, so not to interfere with soccer schedule I put her in a summer gymnastics camp. She is a natural...however it's a big commitment. I sat down with her and explained that if she did both gymnastics and soccer she would not have time for homework and friends, so she had to choose what she likes to play best. She chose soccer. She is a natural a multiple sports, and she will probably always be because she is athletically inclined, but she realized that it would be too much. She is totally committed to soccer and she has developed into an awesome player. You can tell when other players on the team that are not totally committed have limited skills. I believe that some parents think that by putting their kids in multiple sports makes them better athletes. That's so untrue. A true athlete can almost always play any sport will little effort. They just have it.
We subscribe to the "primary sport" approach. Soccer is her primary and when there are conflicts she chooses soccer about 95% of the time. But we keep it pretty simple. Gymnastics class once a week (no tournaments), no other fall sports, basketball twice a week in the winter (intramural, not AAU), no other spring sports, and then swim team in June/July. Soccer is kind of constant with breaks only in December and late June/early July. But to some other poster's point, the other players on her soccer team seem have made the same choice. Soccer is primary and they dabble in basketball and lax. One player is a high level gymnast, but they do their best to be at soccer as much as possible, and she never seems rusty or tired, so there are no issues so far.
Advice on leaving?Well......you can do a you wishIf yountrust the coach will still treat your daughter the same the rest of the spring, then tell himThis way they can plan/offer your slot to someone else.If you think the coach will be an a-- and take it out on her, sit her more, make you and your daughter uncomfortable in any way - I'd stay silent.
Gymnastics are great for soccer. Builds the core strength better than anything. Wish my daughter had time. She was a ferocious tackler at U8, I think mostly because how strong she was from gymnastics.
How do you get away with not telling? You are normally extended an offer to join a team, and then required to accept or decline and pay within a short period.
"Funny part will be when these non-committed u-12 girls come take your committed kids spot in a couple years at their "academy" .Your kid has no shot. No shot at all. LOL

Not sure I agree with the ranking but those are the right teams.
Well are you committed to your elite level team when you go to these $1000 a team tournament and kids are up till the wee hours of the morning, running around the hotel. Swimming in the pool before and after the games. Eating fried food and candy between games. Problem is some parents have the money to blow and dont care how their kid or the team performs. So is that any different from the kid that competes on the trampoline team before the game.
To tell or not to tell? Why wouldn't you tell the coach you are leaving? Isn't the right thing to do? Wouldn't you want the coach to tell you - it's time for plan B.If you are leaving let the team figure out some things with the players they have. Like I said you are leaving so why do you care about the minutes? You made the choice to leave, now do the right thing for the other kids on the team who are staying - they still have to play on the same team - they just have a new hole to plug. It wasn't their choice for your kid to leave.Just like it's not their choice to play a different sport.Team is just that a team and the team comes first before the individual every time if you are a team playerJust my 2 cents.
6:25- Top lists usually sets off a firestorm, but I would agree with yours.. It's fair.Crush and Rage will fall off the list when their players leave after the season.
7:46 Why would you think They fall off? Don't they have a 2nd team that's okay to pull a few girls from? .
JPS and Boca should be next 2
Does Rage have a 2nd team? Don't think so. They do use u11 Renegades girls under the Rage Liberty when they play tournaments, I understand. But Freedom does not have a B team. I'm sure we would have known by now if they did.
Njx #1? Lol. We will see friday on the turf. PDA 4-0.
Some very good players moving to great teams. NJX and Storm both adding some great players for U13.Clearly the top 2 teams and getting stronger. They will continue to battle in ECNL. Great rivalry on the pitch.Neither care about Fridays results. EDP for town teams.
How does Ajax rank #5?didn't we just see their record vs top 10 in nj was barely .500 for U12 year when #2 put everyone's records vs top ten on blog last week? And barely more goals socred than allowed? A huge number of goals allowed at U12 in comparison with other top 10 teams you list. And didn't they just lose 4-0 to storm?they didn't advance in B flight at fc dleco(lost to maryland united red clubs B Team)and they are 2-2 in current league standings. I know they beat njx the week after njx won state cup but they were still on a cloud I'm sure after finally getting past storm in SC.have to look at the whole body of work during U12 year to rank teams fairly with an emphasis on recent results.Which in ajax case are extremely spotty and inconsistent week to week.
the closest NJX will get to being an ECNL team is writing it on this blog. ECNL will be Black Team and will train up north.Just keep writing those checks to cover our kids scholarships and travel for black team in ECNL at U14. same thing pda does with their B and C teams.
Neither NJX or Black will be the ECNL team morons. MFA will start fresh with the ECNL team. They will take the best players regardless of which team they come from. Plus, I am sure new players will try out for this team. Every year players tend to move and transition to other teams. I can't see MF taking players from 1 team and saying this is the ECNL team. Too many players would be left without a team. Therefore, they will start from scratch.
BOCA 2, Wildcats 1
Nobody is leaving Crush, 7:46
Well I guess 9:10's daughter didn't make the Ajax cut for this coming fall :).
Did #2's daughter make Storm?
Did BOCA beat WCATS this weekend?

The AJAX ranking is based on body of work. They are the Fall EDP champs, they were a semi finalist in the SC and they just beat NJX. They have beaten all of the so called top 10 teams with the exception of Storm. Also, they were put at #5 in ranking. No other team below them has made a case to be higher. They beat Rage in SC, Crush fas not had a good Spring, and Dragons don't play enough top 5 teams.

PDA Storm using just GS results. This is the last of your top 8 - I used just GS becasue it was easy to post. 8:22- Ajax was in same bracket (3rd) as Wildcats in PDA tournament. Ajax won their bracket and was Champion.
Hey 9-54 9-10 is a coach not a parent you dope.
Wildcats have played a lot of games and tournaments. Have they won anything? Lots of excuses.. "Late goals", "goal differential", "head to head", "Windy"What have they won?
WowWhere are the quality wins for Storm?
Back to back SC Champions.
Storm has the local scene covered. Doesn't mean they win every oneThe top NJ teams "hang in" with other states, which is fine for development sake
Storm and NJX top 2, then there is everybody else. Storm has won 2 consecutive SC, NJX has won 2 NJ Cups.PDA Storm and Dragons played ECNL and NE NPL teams in the Fall, not recorded by GS. GS didn't record all the Spring NJ Cup games like Wildcats loss to Boca.
Just looking at the GS results since nobody posted any others for all 8 teamsI think 1 & 2 has to NJX and PDA Storm for NJ - Both are State Cup champions in the current 2013/2014 season. I would NJX first since they just beat Storm to win the Spring US Club NJ Cup.1. NJX2. Storm3. Wildcats - I put the Wildcats 3rd, because they only lost 4 games out of 36 played and all 4 were quality teams plus they have wins over South Shore, Storm, Rage, & Ajax and tied NJX twice.4. MF Falcons, would be higher if we included the NE Girls NPL games , but since we didn't include other games for other teams I am keeping them at #4 ahead of AJAX and RAGE becasue they won head 2 head.5. Ajax - I agree the teams below haven't done much to push them ahead even though the overall record isn't that great 2 wins vs NJX are big.6. Rage split with Ajax and NJ Wildcats but had few other quality wins. PS. When I say quality wins - I mean against teams playing in D1 of their leagues.7. PDA Dragons 2 of the 3 Ls came to NJX the number 1 or 2 team in NJ currently. I agree if they had some other quality wins they could be higher. My only question are there other teams that fit this mold, good record but not many quality wins?8. Crush, I was a fan and still am a fan of Crush, played in so many high level tournaments - makes you only wish your kid played in that many. Record this spring in League play NYSCL NPL & EDP plus Tournaments has moved them down in my opinionJust my 2 cents based on GS results. Come on we can talk about this in a civil way without saying this is u12 soccer and it doesn't matter when they are older and we can be negative but lets not, lets just have some fun with it (the posters that want to - others can post what ever they want obviously). I'm open to chat about other states as well.
How did Storm and Dragons do against the NE NPL teams last season?
Here you go I added US Club NJ Cup plus JAGS.I didn't add NE Girls NPL becasue it is u13.Does this do anything to your Rankings? For me it moves MF above NJ Wildcats1.2.3 = in any order NJX, Storm, MF BlackPDA StormW = 6T = 1L = 20-3 World Class FC U12G0-1 Match Fit Academy Black2-2 East Meadow Hotshotz5-1 Albertson Fury '01 Red6-0 Westfield SA Blue Samurai7-2 Jersey Shore BOCA Jr., F.C. 01/023-0 Stronghold SC Fury7-0 Randolph Rush5-0 FC Copa Lima======================================Match Fit Academy Black W = 3T = 3L = 02-2 Albertson Fury '01 Red 20-0 CFC West Newtown U-12 Orange 01-1 World Class FC U12G 11-0 PDA Storm 01-0 East Meadow Hotshotz 03-0 East Meadow Sky Blue 0========================================PDA DragonsW = 8T = 4L = 1 0-2 SI United Hotshots 23-3 Jersey Shore BOCA Jr., F.C. 01/02 30-0 East Meadow Sky Blue 00-0 Toms River FC COPA 01/02 02-2 CFC Arsenal Sky 22-0 Toms River FC COPA 01/02 04-3 Match Fit Academy Blue 34-0 World Class FC '01 Hamm 08-2 JSC Avalanche 24-0 Washington United Fever 02-0 Stronghold SC Fury 02-0 Stronghold SC Fury3-2 NJ Crush Tsunami========================================Rage Premier Freedom 3-0 Mount Laurel United Fury0-1 PDA Ajax========================================PDA Ajax 4-0 South Jersey Elite Barons '011-0 Rage Premier Freedom=======================================NJ Crush Tsunami 5-0 Randolph Storm2-3 PDA Dragons=======================================NJ Wildcats Averbuch 1-2 Jersey Shore Boca Jr=======================================Holmdel NJX Celtic 7-0 Thistle Comets 5-0 Mercer FC Spurs
If you want to see the difference in skill between NJX and storm, no better way to see overall difference then watching these teams play on turf.Dont know who is going to win but the skill differential will be obvious.
Dragons did not lose to SI hotshots.
Boy somebody really seems to have their thong panties in a wad over Ajax. Most likely Wildcats because they keep saying Ajax hasn't beaten them at U12. I am not affiliated with either, but it looks to me like they have tied each other the 2x they faced this year so they are probably pretty even, but you have to consider Ajax won the EDP spring and the PDA tournament with Wildcats in their group. Wildcats have to stop saying how much better they are if that has happened in the past few months...and did they really lose to Boca?
To recap overall W-T-L record using GS, NJ Cup and JAGS.NJX (W-29, T-6, L-9)Storm (W-16, T-3, L-6)MF Black (W-9, T-7, L-3)NJ Wildcats (W-20, T-12, L-5)Ajax (W-19, T-5, L-14)Rage (W-18, T-10, L-8)Dragons (W-18, T-4, L-4)Crush (W-20, T-6, L-11)
Just posting what JAGS has
That game was scheduled for 5/31. Looks like Dragons may be forfeiting?

10:19- Nice job tallying up the totals.
wildcats won 1-0 over ajax at U12 in Spirit Tourney, both in top flight. Both played 36 games at U12 thus far-ajax: allowed 56 goals scored 54.vs very same level of comp(same edp division fall and spring, both state cups and same tournaments) at U12 wildcats scored 79 goalsallowed 28 goalswildcats 4 losses in 36 games(gave up 7 total goals in those 4 losses)ajax 13 losses(in which they gave up 40 goals)Wildcats have only win in series this year with other two games tied. Please stop
Ajax won their EDP Division and 2014 PDA Bracket vs Wildcats. Wildcats lost to Boca in SC first round.Agreed, please stop!
Every loss is a bad loss, no, hahaha? Thanks! We are building a foundation up here, a core that will be competitive for years to come.
Remember, teams changed from Fall to Spring. We can see it in results. Also, come September, throw out all rankings as most teams changed significantly based on try outs.
10:53 - 10:42 makes a strong point and hard to argue against. I liked the two wins vs NJX but the way 10:42 laid it out NJ Wildcats for sure are ahead of Ajax and can make a good argument to be included in the top 3, but that's where the State Cup Wins keeps them out vs Storm and NJX but they might get a head 2 head opportunity against MF in June at the MF tournament.
Yup we get to do it all over again. 10:53 Impressive record, if NYSC is moving to NYCSL NPL - I can only see Crush being a problem for you with all the MA and CT teams now in the New England NPL. I'm curious who the new clubs are going to be.Also with NYSC leaving EDL NPL, That league will be NJ Wildcats to lose. They should represent that league at the NPL Finals of course depends on who they add, website isn't that great and hard to find information, sometimes it looks like the EDL NPL clubs don't even know they are in NPL with standings kept on the NPL website. The NE Girls NPL looks like it will be a tougher league than the NYCSL and EDL, but who knows as you said some teams will change a lot and some teams not that much.
