U14G / U14 Girls Youth Soccer

U14G  / U14 Girls youth soccer seems to offer the most teams and the widest diversity of talent.

Where these players will end up is anyone guess.

Welcome to the ride.

Ok, I might have missed on the PAC thing. But was right about Penn United and forgot about the much improved LVU.

Penn Fusion Birth Year ID Event
2002 Birth Year Sunday Feb 7th and Feb 28
Must RSVP

Anonymous said...

Please no more talk about state cup champions.... That stopped being relevant 2 yrs ago!!! Everyone knows state cups are easier to win each year after U12 as more of the top level teams no longer play in them... FACT

Anonymous said...

relvant? you realize this is a kid's soccer forum. none of this is relevant except to a few payers and parents on the mentioned teams no matter what team you play on.

Anonymous said...

9:19 LOL Exactly!

Anonymous said...

What's relevant is signing day yesterday. The ultimate scorecard of a club, it's teams and its players. Nothing else really matters.

Anonymous said...

A lot else matters. That matters a lot for folks focused on signing day.

Anonymous said...

8:43

I hope all of your soccer balls deflate...forever.

Anonymous said...

At that point it doesn't matter what team you played for. The team doesn't go to play in college the individual player does.

Anonymous said...

It's good to see girls signed to play at the college level from a lot of different clubs.

Anonymous said...

My kid is u14 going on U16 signing day means nothing to me now. If she's still playing and still wants to practice everyday when the time comes it will be a great day to know that she picked a school that wants her and will get her on track with life being away from home until that time comes 4/5 years from now I would like enjoy her youth soccer career and that means having fun with results and anything else stupid, goofy and moronic - because we all know development rules.

Anonymous said...

Exactly, this blog is for entertainment, and anyone who posts negative crap is a loser. As if I really care what some moron thinks about my kids team, please. Also, I am a true believer that the team concept is transitioning to the player-first concept. As an example, my kids team did not have a great fall season, but she did, she was consistantly tough, and helped her team as much as she could. My daughter plays holding-midfield, and she more than anyone, is the heart of her team, and her heart is strong.

Anonymous said...

Why would you not see players from different clubs play in a variety of college situations. There are players interested in and very capable of college play at a lot of clubs.

Anonymous said...

12:54 - I'm envious of you. My kid is a terrible player. I can't believe she even keeps making the team. She rarely contributes, and sometimes even shows up with her cleats on backwards. I wish I was you.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations 12:54. Thanks for sharing.

Anonymous said...

Sometimes my kids runs the wrong way on the field and even scores for the other team. How can I help her 12:54?

Anonymous said...

1:37

Sorry to hear that, perhaps your daughter would be better suited for Lacrosse, and after watching her play, I would say that academics is much more important.

1:43

Sorry to hear that also, perhaps she has dyslexia of the foot, there was a paper published in Sweden about that, you should look it up. Actually, skip the research, and go get her some waffles.

Anonymous said...

Just admit you wrote an idiotic post and move on, mom. "Her heart is strong". Please.

Anonymous said...

Wow. Way to double-down on being a douche. You are really owning it.

I'm willing to bet that tomorrow you'll come back and read your posts and think to yourself, "you know what, those folks were right to ridicule me".

Anonymous said...

I agree with the 12:54's post being ridiculous but don't assume it's a "mom" please. I can picture a few dads I know writing s post like that.

- a mom

Anonymous said...

What a heartwarming story. I bet my kid was one of the others on the same team.

Anonymous said...

Man, lots of nasty people today, not sure what everyone is so annoyed about. I think most parents share the same thoughts, they just don't write about them, you people must be Republicans.

Anonymous said...

There's a lot of delusional parents but the smart delusional will keep those kind of opinions to themselves.

Anonymous said...

Sure doesn’t feel like soccer season outside, hard to believe other girls are enjoying outdoor soccer elsewhere in this beautiful country.

** League Results vs top 4 teams only.
** Tournament Results from GS only events with a flight value > 7,000 only
** 5pts = win, 3pts = tie - ECNL
** 4pts = win, 2pts = tie - National Event
** 3pts = win, 1pts = tie - League D1 only & Tournaments
** 1pts = win D2 leagues

Your point system is arbitrary and the results meaningless.

relevant gets my vote for most inappropriate word choice used for any kid sport of any level. is not other than to the few involved on a team.

Anonymous said...

Dudes, you left out the most tacky word of all-time: SHOWCASE!

Anonymous said...

How so 11:40? ECNL is top everything else is equal results vs top teams only. Truth hurts when you see all your team does is beat upon weaker teams and you get top billing. BRYC lost to BeachFC who beat the #2 & 3 teams in their league but never got an opportunity to play other top teams - the system would allow that. So far this is what I have, with a lot more to go

In other words wins vs FC Bucks and other bottom of the table teams don't count. Only vs top 4 teams since most leagues have around 4 solid teams.

Anonymous said...

12:40. Can you see if for now on you could pick the flights for Jeff Cup? Those flights actually make some sense and took some non-deserving teams out of higher flights.
No team should ever be rewarded for beating FC Bucks, in fact points should be taken away. Points would count if team opposing FC Bucks played with only 8 field players and no keeper (and spotted FC Buck two goals)

Anonymous said...

Please stop with the idiot lists, 12:40

Anonymous said...

3:34 Why? Someone asked how i would do the flights and i'm showing how i would do the flights. This gives the starting point before you move onto head to head.

This shows you that Richmond (but they are host so I'm okay with that), Loudoun, Harford, Calvert, CT FC, Ukranians, Frederick, McLean, world Class, 1776, BRYC, Florida Elite, NJ Wildcats NPL are to high and teams like

Beach FC, NJ Rush & LVU are low. Still have half the teams to do. There is no bias here. All League results vs top 4 teams only are treated the same as tournament that have more than 7,000 GS points (only using this because Jefferson values this)

ECNL is the top of the pyramid so they get treated as such but only games vs the top 4 in the division everything else is equal

Anonymous said...

Jeff cup schedule is out. Some of the bottom flights have horrible time slots too. Good news is that you may be able to drive down Saturday and then home very late on Sunday.

Anonymous said...

GS For Life,

Can you please give us the flight values for all the flights at Jeff Cup?

Thanks!!

Anonymous said...

3:55

If you think NJ Rush should be higher than they are, you need some medicine

Unless you really know the teams, best to stay quiet

Anonymous said...

Why do people care about flight values? All these teams change in 6 months and it all starts over.

Anonymous said...

hey 414, Do you know NJ Rush? Have you seen them play to make that comment. I have seen them play and they are in the right bracket. Do you have something against them. My daughter's team played against them and they were pretty good. Hope they do well.

Anonymous said...

5:04, you mean your daughter is on that team, no?

Anonymous said...

Because its fun 4:15, do you remember fun? People need to just relax and freaking enjoy the experience.

Don’t you think I know about the team getting split-up?

Thanks for ruining my Friday you douche.

Anonymous said...

Famous advice from Coach Chester: "The best, the best. That's all I keep hearing. You want to be the best. Let me ask you this, what good is being the best if it brings out the worst in you?"

Anonymous said...

4:14 What makes you the expert? They beat LVU and Ukranians and lost to NJ Wildcats finished in 2nd place EDP Central D1 semis at Bethesda (flight value 8,000) - quarter finals NJ NCS (flight value 10,000) - So what's wrong with this? Didn't know tournaments award flights on how teams play - thought it was results driven?

Flight Values? Why do people care - I don't know ask Jefferson from their website, they care about GS and GS uses flight values for their ranking:

In 2013 the Jefferson Cup reached a #2 ranking in the country for girls weekend and #9 for boys weekend (moving up almost 16 spots from 2012.

In 2009 the Jefferson Cup reached its highest ranking ever being ranked the #1 youth tournament for boys in the United States.

Anonymous said...

507 no, my daughter isn't on the team. I would said it if she was. I just thought your comment was uncalled for. What team is your daughter on ? My daughter is on one of the teams that NJ Rush played but I can not say which one, her club would not be too happy if I stated where.

Anonymous said...

Since you weighted ECNL league wins so heavily did you also weigh non ecnl teams victories over ecnl teams in tournaments just as heavily?
If not then your system is not equitable.

Anonymous said...

That's a good point 6:12 -I did not - I'm not a machine but will check the top 4 teams in each ECNL div and update any wins a Non-ECNL team got vs them. Thanks good feedback.

12:40 Do you have a system for rating the moms with the most irritating voices? Definitely want to give extra points in regard to ECNL moms in gaudy cloths and perfume that overpowers the human senses. No points taken away from drunk NY moms please (during game or at the hotel). Although points should be lost for yoga pants on moms that shouldn't be wearing them. Extra points for at least two Boca moms.

Anonymous said...

Top players who don't care about school ball will tryout for DA. Those who want to play HS stay ECNL.

Anonymous said...

What if you make the natl team roster? Are you forced to go with the DA?

Anonymous said...

Here is another question. What happens if the DA aligns with the pro teams and they fold again, which is very likely? Do the kids go back to ecnl and take all those positions back?

Anonymous said...

Depends on if they have enough $$$ in the bank for the excessive cash needed league.

Anonymous said...

Just dual card and play both and you have all your bases covered. It's only money.

Anonymous said...

Why would you think everyone has excess money? Speak for yourself!

Anonymous said...

For those that follow the college game

1,213 Schools between D1, D2, D3 & NAII
Approx 30,861 kids playing college soccer every year.
Aprrox 9,458 of those kids are on a scholarship.

using GS 2 U14, u15, U16 & U17 there are 13,487 teams @ 18 kids per team gives us approx 242,766 girls playing college soccer. 13% of these kids will play college soccer and 4% of them will receive a scholarship and some of them might make a NWSL roster currently approx 250 pro players and may someof them will make the WNT approx 30.

Enjoy the ride regardless of the flight your kid is in at any event 13% of them can play college soccer.

Anonymous said...

Its not just the 13% that play college soccer. The girls that are playing on these teams also receive the residual effect of being around other girls with families that are goal oriented. Even without scholarship money being offered, a large percentage of these girls with still want to pursue taking their education to the next level. And that arena may be the one where the less athletically skilled player prevails.

Anonymous said...

Why do you feel that red bulls will not field da teams. They already have a lot of girls in the pipeline and probably the best coaching staff.

Anonymous said...

9:06 I didn't see any girl teams on their site. So why would they get a girls academy with zero teams?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know where I can find the results to last year's PDA kickoff? Not on their site.

Anonymous said...

https://tgs.totalglobalsports.com/public/master.aspx?eid=59

Anonymous said...

Red Bulls does accept girls ages 7-14 into their RDS program but not into their academy.

Anonymous said...

10:08 these are not teams or at least they don't have a page for them

The RDS showcase teams represent an opportunity for the top talents in the RDS to participate in competitive tournaments.

Participation in the showcase teams is strictly by invitation only, with initial invites being based on performance within the RDS.

Anonymous said...

Seems red bulls would be perfectly capable of running a successful girls da but not sure why they want to. The rds is heavily skewed towards boys even though girls do participate. Definitely more team events offered for the boys.

Anonymous said...

11:50 that's simple $$$$$$$$ - why do you think PDA makes money? They have 4 teams per age group with only 1 ECNL team - the draw of the promise land (College) gets you money.

If Red Bulls joined the party and pulled a PDA- they would have 1 DA team with 3 feeder teams at $2000 per player that's an extra $120k per age group. Parents will pay.

This is why USSF wants in - girls soccer currently has 10 domestic pro teams and the best WNT this all spells cash cow

let's not pretend - we all know that's why the ECNl was created. Yes it made life easier for the colleges and for their players all while they got a major pay day. Nothing will change, just a new cast of characters.

1:52 you got that right baby, and I'm one of those willing to give up the money. Town clubs are the only ones that are doing any of this just for the benefit of the players. Soccer equals big dollars and its why clubs will carry a third and a fourth team. Unfortunately, some of those players would get the same level of coaching on their town teams for less dollars.

Anonymous said...

2:58 I am also willing to give up the money for quality training and if my kid is getting it and she has an opportunity (not saying she will) to move up a level of play then it's all worth it to me. If i didn't have it then obviously we would be where the wallet could afford.

For me - when the DA comes around and if there is a club near home my daughter will try out we make a move regardless of the level of play she is accepted at as long as the roster size is not greater than 18 I know the grass isn't always greener but for my kid I make the move.

She is excited about the BYC - she is an 01 that will get to play with and against her ODP teammate now

So much potential at youthsoccerrankings.us - they just need to figure out the duplicate accounts and to get the teams in right state and they might have the best ranking system yet.

It doesn't matter anymore who is the best team. The best players from all teams will start picking colleges after their Freshman year. No longer about the team.

Anonymous said...

4:16 You are really pissing off Penn United parent. Putting both PAC and 1776 in front of them, but I think you got it right. Should NYSC even be in the top five?

Anonymous said...

4:41 no disrespect but if never mattered who the best team was it was always about my kid and her being in the right place for her. But I would be a liar if I said i didn't want her team to win and be the best.

NYSC guy you guys are the US Club State Champ but the NCS State Cup champ 2 years in a row is SACHEM SPEED (NYE) ask any PAE parent the NCS is better than the US Club version - NJ likes them both.

So is the real state champ? NYSC or Sachem Speed? same as last year in NJ where the Nj Wildcats and MF NPL both held the title

20-player roster for the 2016 Concacaf U-17 Women's Championship in Grenada March 3-13.
The tournament will determine the region’s three qualifiers for the
2016 U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan Sept. 30-Oct. 21.

The squad is comprised of:
12 players born in 1999,
5 players born in 2000s
3 players born in 2001 (1VA, 1CO, 1CA)

U.S. U-17 girls national national roster 85% are from ECNL or 94% field players are from ECNL.
This is the first true test for the ECNL, with the league being around 6 yearsand these being their players.
I expect CONCACAF domination anything less is failure

PF held their "pre-tryout" yesterday. A lot of top players there from surrounding clubs attending. This was not an actual tryout, but a event organized to give PF an idea of what the numbers might be like with the birth year change.
PF's U14 team beat up on the U15's on Saturday. Other than the outside D-backs making great passes to the other team and giving up a goal, the girls look ready to kick some ass in San Diego.

Wow - they crushed Averbush - and then beat them again 3-1

Some pretty good teams on that list

PF ECNL does seem a much better team than they were spring '15

Beat Albertson, FSA and World Class

Dropped games to PDA and Match Fit

and tied East Meadow

just toa dd some results from fall

PF has improved because the players have accepted the roles they've been given and are playing them well. Of course the parents might have a problem with some of it, but the girls are great.

Anonymous said...

If you are playing ECNL the $$$ would likely not be problem.

Anonymous said...

Interesting 1:07? Yes they improved from 1.32 to 1.64 which really isn't much and the 1.64 can go in either direction. Looks like no change to me maybe they should have made some changes?

Speaking of San Diego, at least on a PPG basis, it looks like PDA and PF will face some comparable competition. MF gets only one tough game against Mustang. And Boston is flying across the country to face the dregs.

FC Boston Scorpions ECNL U14 (1.82) Northeast
vs
Heat FC ECNL U14 (0.78) Southwest
Crossfire United ECNL U14 (0.50) Northwest
Sporting Blue Valley ECNL U14 (1.09) Midwest

Match Fit Academy ECNL U14 (2.18) Northeast
vs
Strikers FC ECNL U14 (0.40) Southwest
Mustang SC ECNL U14 (2.29) Northwest
FC Portland ECNL U14 (1.00) Northwest

PDA ECNL U14 (1.82) Northeast
vs
West Coast FC ECNL U14 (1.82) Southwest
Real Colorado ECNL U14 (1.75) Northwest
Crossfire Premier ECNL U14 (2.50) Northwest

Penn Fusion SA ECNL U14 (1.64) Northeast
vs
Real So Cal ECNL U14 (1.70) Southwest
San Juan Soccer Club ECNL U14 (1.10) Northwest
Dallas Sting ECNL U14 (1.44) Texas

The assumption is that a 2.00 PPG in the Southwest conference should be worth a lot more than a 2.00 in the Northeast conference. Will be interesting to see if this is true.

All the Northeast teams managed to avoid the three top Southwest teams: Eagles, SoCal Blues, and Arsenal; as well as the top Northeast team: MVLA.

Looking forward to MF vs Mustang, PDA vs West Coast, and PF vs Real So Cal.

The Real So Cal match will be a good one for PF and a game that they can win. So Cal is an excellent team, but did lose 2-1 in the fall to Premier Soccer PSG from MI. In that same tournament FC Fredrick held Premier Soccer to to a 0-0 draw. So anything is possible.

Anonymous said...

"So Cal is an excellent team, but did lose 2-1 in the fall to Premier Soccer PSG from MI. In that same tournament FC Fredrick held Premier Soccer to to a 0-0 draw. "

If your thesis is that FC Frederick = Blues, I think you are intentionally trying to mislead.

Blues beat FC Frederick 4-0.

FC Frederick tied MI after MI had already secured a spot in the finals.

Blues lost to MI on PKs in the final. They also tied them in bracket play.

Frederick went 0 GF and 5 GA while Blues went 11 GF and 1 GA in that tournament. Why in the world would you ever try to promote that FC Frederick = Blues?

Anonymous said...

5:57 Not sure what your point is. When does Fredrick ever score goals? Its why we just had a long discussion last week about them being in F2. Even if MI had their spot secured, there is no way they shouldn't score against an F3 team like Fredrick. How often do you hear of FCV or Cinnci laying back when they have their spot secure? Its fine that you have a dislike for PF, but stop with the dumb statements.

Anonymous said...

You lost me there. What does PF have to do with the Frederick discussion?

PF will play Real SoCal in San Diego. That is who 5:07 is referencing in the first sentence.

SoCal Blues are a different club that played in the National Championships last season. That is who 5:07 is referencing in the second sentence.

Just so I am clear, are you also suggesting that Frederick, Blues and the MI team are all pretty much equal?

Anonymous said...

"Its fine that you have a dislike for PF, but stop with the dumb statements."

Hi 6:25.

I have no dog in this fight, but a real man apologizes when he screws up. Just sayin'.

Anonymous said...

Teams no longer matter. It's about the individual player at this point and where they will play in college. Colleges don't recruit teams they recruit players. This blog has now become irrelevant!

Anonymous said...

The blog was never relevant before. It's just a diversion.

okay enough with me bashing the event they did what they had to do.

Let's start talking from the bottom up F11 or F6 depends on how you view
their set up and what you believe and work our way up. This way we can really
look at some of the other teams as next year everything will start NEW.

W8, T3, L1 --- PENN UNITED FORCE '01 (PAE)
W11, T1, L6 -- UNITED MOUNT PLEASANT 20 PREMIER (SC)
W2, T1, L1 --- ALLEYCATS ELITE NEKO 01/02-NPL (NYE)
W1, T2, L4 --- SYRACUSE DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY U14G (NYW)

W14, T2, L6 -- LDC UNITED ATTACK (PAE)
W9, T6, L5 --- FC BOSTON BBA GU14 NPL (MA)
W7, T1, L4 --- PITTSBURGH RIVERHOUNDS ACADEMY (PAW)
W6, T4, L6 --- HBC SPARK (NYE)

I think we see the Alleycats or Penn United play LDC or FC Boston NPL in the final Tomorrow night Iwillbreakdown Classic.

In a day or two, when I get to your flight 8:48

Match Fit Academy FC Girls will field birth year teams out of our home base of Morris Catholic High School from 2008 to 1998 (U8 - U19).
In addition we will utilize Raritan High School, Mercer County College and Montclair Kimberly Academy for additional training and games.

U16 Born in 2001 or younger
ECNL - Morris Catholic HS
Open Evaluations & June tryouts TBC Contact Staff for evaluation.

So how does this work for other ECNL club players that might want to move?
Can they just attend the open sessions or do they have to wait for June?

Penn United wins that bracket easily. With their coach picking up a red card on the final day. Wrestling two officials to the ground and not being allowed to take part in handing out the medals or be allowed at the site.

The other bracket has the PAGS D1 #1 vs NorthEast NPL #5 and an the #5 EDP D1 North Team should be a walk in the park for PAGS top 2 teams, no?

ECNL players cannot train or tryout with another ECNL team until after the regular season games are finished. Usually in early May. Kids transferring often then play the last events with the new club if the clubs agree to transfer the kid. Has happened...

What I don't understand is how those happy, normal looking U14 Jersey girls become annoying Jersey moms with those glass shattering voices? Is it possible that this is what NJ men turn them into? Akin to being under gamma rays for extended periods of time?
Its strange how NY women live next to Jersey, yet don't suffer the same affliction (and make better choices regarding spandex).

The Wildcats-Penn Legacy result wont matter, right?

I mean - with everything you read here -

if both teams cannot advance to the final then the Sunday result lacks meaning.

(not agreeing, just asking for clarification)

Anonymous said...

Regardless of whether the game matters or not, The game will matter to those involved in it. The teams have been pretty evenly matched since first playing as U13's and should be a fun game to watch. Both teams are looked at as having no chance against E. Meadow or FCV, but sometimes teams rise to the occasion and surprise even themselves. Of course a couple lucky bounces or a defender or two slipping and falling down would be a big help.

9:02 - a player may go train or try out for any team they want to. They do not have to wait until after the regular season.

Anonymous said...

Come on guys why talk your fight now we are on premier F11 or F6 depending on how you look at it getting ready to move to classic in a few

Don't worry, snakes never run out of venom. All of us will have plenty left when we discuss why the best thing in Jersey is their buildings with no windows and loud music, and it seems the employees only work 2nd and 3rd shift.

Anonymous said...

11:15, this is not true. The ECNL clubs have and agreement that includes their NE NPL teams as well. They will not try out another clubs player before the end of the regular season. The exception would be if the player was released. Players sign a code of conduct and this is in there. Will they poach other clubs players, sure.

Anonymous said...

That was also my understanding, 12:45, but I was too lazy to look it up.

I know of two ECNL to ECNL transfers that went off very smoothly. If the reason is legitimate for the transfer (not getting enough playing time, a move that makes getting to practice difficult), then there shouldn't be an issue.

Anonymous said...

What about at an ID pre try-out?

Anonymous said...

109 Technically based on the ECNL rules it's also illegal unless it's a paid event for training. PDA does clinics but are pay to play so it's actually a training session.

Anonymous said...

What is ECNL? I have seen those letters, but I have no idea what that is. Is that some type of soccer organization like AYSO? It has the same amount of letters, so it must be similar.

College Bound ECNL: 1,217
Total Players Playing Collegiate Soccer: 1,209

I happen to like a lot ECNL parents and their families, at least the half that know their kid is playing in games and are comfortable where their playing. The other half might be the most insecure bunch you could ever meet. Muttering to themselves during games and their increasingly small circle of friends, but just loud enough so others can hear.

Anonymous said...

You sound a lot like cam. Move on loser.

Anonymous said...

Haha, all this self glorification is very amusing, but it mostly sounds like you Ecnl parents are a little insecure. Be happy and ignore the moronic posters, the more you yell, the less people will hear. Good luck to all...

7:17

I am an ECNL parent and that sir is an accurate post. Sad by true.

Anonymous said...

You're always going to have insecure or unhappy parents on teams, ECNL or not! My kid had experienced both and I will tell you those kind of parents were on the sides of both teams. Has nothing to do with being ECNL.

Anonymous said...

7:30 sounds like one of the muttering parents.

10:28 you are correct sir, but players on non-ecnl teams are not driving three hours to play 30 minutes or less, or not dress at all. So there is a lot more stress on the ECNL side and reassuring yourself that this is the best thing for your daughter. Chances are it very well may be, but might not come to fruition right away. Being your daughters rock while she finds her way is the most important thing, but some parents expect some type of entitlement because their daughter was a star on her previous team. Not going to happen on an ECNL team.

Thank you ECNL parent for backing up my statement and being honest.

Word is PA Classics is setting up to become a DA. Just added a national coach to its girls side. That may be quite a tryout there this year with those in anticipation.

Anonymous said...

Parent sidelines on the 2 NJ ECNL teams are a hot mess. It's not at all in a true sense a team but rather a divided group of insecure parents and their players who are always loooking over their shoulders and rooting against each other. There is very little cammeraderie and much distrust and treachery among the parents. This one is not any good and why is she playing and her parents most be brownnosing the coach and blah, blah , blah.
Not a healthy environment and not what you find on most other teams at all. Stop the BS.

Anonymous said...

How many teams don't have that? Your lucky if you find one that doesn't.

Anonymous said...

11:46 And you too are correct sir. But...this is the environment when you compete and play for a high level team. Its not always healthy and it's not what you find on most other teams but the players and parents know what they're getting going into it. There is no camaraderie for one simple reason; at this point it's all about the individual player and their individual development, rightfully so. Its dog eat dog and your fighting to keep your spot. That's the nature of the ECNL and if you're kid is good enough to play on one of the teams and is happy to be there, regardless of her situation, you stick it out. As posted earlier, the statistics of those playing on these teams relative to playing in college is impressive. 93% of the ECNL rosters going on to play college and 73% going D1 alone is unreal, which I was unaware of.

Anonymous said...

11:16
Heard that also
Website confirms this on next year's coach list

Anonymous said...

12:50 I'm curious how many of those 7% players came from teams with rosters over 18? How quickly we forget about the 7%? Yeah thank you for your money and good luck with your life!!

Anonymous said...

If the USSF was smart they would each state association an Academy. So 1st team ODP is your academy playing 10 months a year in a league - no club affiliation kids play for their state and the state associations can make some money out of it and create their own league pyramid.

Anonymous said...

If ODP became the Academy, over half the present ODP girls would not be team. Why would ODP give up money already in hand and change something that is already a great cash cow? ODP does have it rewards, but is there anybody worse at communicating with its parents than ODP? Late changes to practice times, fields and changes in tournament venues (not to mention sudden change in cost).
I would hate to see the DA have any association with ODP. Maybe ten years ago when ODP was fairly well run and the spirit of idea was the focus, but now it just about money.

Anonymous said...

You don't think the girl's DA is going to be about big $$$$? It will cost even more than ODP.

Anonymous said...

You know this how??

You dont.

Anonymous said...

I know youth soccer is monetized like no tomorrow. I would have to see otherwise to believe it.

Anonymous said...

How many DA's does each State get? Like PA, NJ and NY? Someone posted PA Classics seams to be gearing up for a DA , are they the only one in PA?

Anonymous said...

There's no set number. Wouldn't surprise me to see LVU get a girls DA as well.

Anonymous said...

What's DA going do better that will improve Women's Soccer that's already top's in the world and producing plenty of college players. I look at the boy's side and I'm not overly impressed of what they have accomplished collegiality, professionally, and nationally.

The only benefit for a DA is becomes free and many of the parents that cannot afford ECNL/NPL Clubs do not get overlooked.

Anonymous said...

8:53 Your missing the point. If the DA is set up in the true form that is being suggested, then it will truly take the best girls that are on the field. ODP started out with the same thought process, but has become a venue that will take players to tournaments that can afford the $600.00 extra fee (international much more). If the parents of a highly skilled player cannot afford it, than a less skilled player goes. If the DA concept holds true, ODP will become an obsolete venue while ECNL will still be worthwhile for its top players.

Anonymous said...

My point was simple. If they charge top dollar like every other "top" soccer program out there (ECNL, ODP, this one academy, that academy, etc, etc,) will continue to capture the affluent talent and not all the talent. It is a very simple concept.

Anonymous said...

10:43 I agree.

Everyone thinking that Girls DA will be Free is smoking something. I read somewhere that the top MLS Academies are paying upwards of $15,000 per player to cover training and travel costs. That's just not sustainable. Scholarships may be awarded to some players, but it will still cost $$ for most kids.

Non MLS DA teams may cover training costs, but do not cover the travel. This is a huge strain on the club. They are constantly seeking sponsors to cover this.

Anonymous said...

11:21 has it right. The money has to come from somewhere.

Anonymous said...

Why can't they reduce the absurd travel requirements? Learn from the folly of the ECNL travel burden and forget this national model. Develop the players in smaller regional programs.

Anonymous said...

But smaller regional programs means that they will need more teams. More teams dilutes the talent pool. Once the talent is diluted, borderline players will choose high school over DA...which dilutes it even further.

Our geography makes it very difficult. There are no easy answers.

Anonymous said...

The talent pool is just as diluted if you have a program that is only accessible to players able to travel extensively.

Anonymous said...

To 8:03, not familiar with the quality of what ODP was 10+ years ago, but with my first experience this year it has been a huge disappointment so far. The training has been way below what was expected and the level of play is way below my daughters current team. I paid for the extra winter sessions and now extra cost to go to a friendly tournament with huge rosters. I can only imagine how disappointing that will be. Long way to drive for a few minutes each half of playing time. Can't see that being the top of the pyramid. It is all about the money and communication is the least of the problems from my perspective.

Anonymous said...

Huge disappointment for you is partially because of the huge roster. But for the program, the huge roster equals success and how they finance the program. This is american youth sports and it is what is it is.

Anonymous said...

Good conversation guys. Trouble is that we don't have a model that works just based on talent and where economics does not play a huge part of it. I think we all have to agree we live in a country with a capitalistic structure, so its always going to be about making money (and I have no problems with that). But to are really expecting to have everything given to us? If your getting some of the best training and playing with other top players, should there really be a complaint about travel cost? Seems like it would be about the possibility of of your return on investment of time and money would be well spent. With a real chance of your daughter picking up the rewards from her hard work.

Anonymous said...

It is a lot about money and that is fine. Certain high level options like to gloss over this ugly little detail and claim it is all about talent.

Anonymous said...

From there website

Match Fit Academy FC Girls will field birth year teams out of our home base of Morris Catholic High School from 2008 to 1998 (U8 - U19). In addition we will utilize Raritan High School, Mercer County College and Montclair Kimberly Academy for additional training and games.

It is very clear where home base is. It would make more sense for the South girls to move to PDA shorter ride.

Also from their website

Match Fit Academy FC is holding player evaluations all winter/spring, please contact us to set up your evaluation.

PF & CFC Delco also holding evaluations. Not all three of these clubs also care about their website (nice job). Couldn't find anything on FC Bucks website (a total nightmare) and PDA also no news on player evaluations.

PDA already has all the players they need to field top teams plus players looking to make the jump - to all the PDA parents have a plan B, because it sounds like they are very confident in the turnout they will have.

The game changer here will be the DA announcement.

PS. MSC Kickoff list out - not a strong age group - I can see now why they don't post their applied list.

Penn Fusion's holding Birth year ID events, not to be confused with tryouts that they will host in the spring. Its geared to foresee possible numbers and no feedback towards any players or parents of players will be given.

Not true.

Don't be fooled about PDA having enough players, or Match Fit having enough players. All 3 of their top teams have generally the equal amount of talent. If a player wants to move from one to the other, there's likely a spot for them.
There's little benefit to be recruited from either one. Both have stellar records of recruiting.
I would be fine if my daughter played with either Academy through High School.
But that's my opinion.

MSC kickoff is sad. Just a bunch of local clubs. The only college coach every going to this event is one looking for a free trip to nyc.

@5:01 boca got relegated along with Christie to Division 2? It seems they were tied with 3 other teams in that tough Southern division. Not sure if that is going to stick or not. If they stay in that 2nd division they better win it and perhaps it will provide a good forum for them to try different things. Trump is still in D 1 btw. I see in NJ Wall moved to D 1, Great for them and that town group. Good coaching and stuff coming from Wall Coach.

Wall will be getting their butts kicked in Division 1 Central. Who of substance have they taken on PDA fusion ? really ? They were playing town teams ! I guess we will see what they can bring to the table, but I think they are out of their league.

Don't be fooled, there are big changes coming at both PDA and MF. The 2 ECNL Teams are a powder keg right now. Promises were made and not delivered and there is major backbiting and uneasiness/anxiety among parents and players.

From the “Coaching Academy” show in Sirius XM 2/10/16. Host Glenn Crooks (former Rutgers Coach) is interviewing Anson Dorrance (current UNC Coach and previous US Soccer coach).

Crooks ask Dorrance about his thoughts on a Girls Developmental Academy

…”First state categorically that the ECNL has done a fantastic job…. They have made the ECNL a viable player development platform. They tried to replicate what was happening on the Academy side with the boys. I have huge respect for the teams. I’m wondering how US Soccer is going to do this. I hope they do it the right way, do it as a conduit to support the ECNL Clubs in the right way, because I don’t think the current system is broken in any way.

If there is some sort of marriage between the two groups and some sort of compromise where ECNL and US Soccer sit down together and figure out a way to do it the right way, where no bridges are burned with this wonderful collection of leaders of the women’s game that have put us in a position to be competing for World Championships on a consistent basis. The college game is getting better and better every year. So I’m hoping that there is some sort of effective marriage between US Soccer, Women’s Academy and the ECNL….

The ECNL has done an absolutely brilliant job doing exactly the same things that they are doing with the Academy and I think they should be treated with that kind of respect.

There’s got to be an open dialogue, sorting out ways to blend the two together in a positive way so no one gets left out and all the best practices are assembled…”

Crooks goes on to say that an announcement is “supposed” to happen next week and if it does, April Hendricks will be on his show next Wednesday to outline everything.

I may be wrong, but to me this all about power and money. Two main reasons, the women's game has exploded. In 2010, they got 5K+ for the Cup sendoff at Red Bulls, and last year sold the place out. My neighborhood had a watch party for the final game, bars were filled for all the games. Other reason is that the ECNL has really hurt ODP and on the girls side US Club has gotten too powerful for the Federation. Maybe I am being too cynical, but it feels that way to me. One thing we all can agree on is that Soccer is a business and everyone of these changes is because someone thinks they can make a buck.

Anonymous said...

Sounds reasonable to me. I read between the lines in the interview that the ENCL took the DA model for their league and now they are upset that US soccer wants it back.

Anonymous said...

If you can read between the lines than you can feel the desperation of the ECNL Clubs and their minions in these articles and even on this blog. Yes, the Federation is going to bury ECNL and regain control on the girls side and ECNL will soon be a Dinosaur.

Anonymous said...

If some of the ECNL clubs are strong clubs, should they not be involved in the Girl's DA?
