What's going on with SDFC at EDP cup they lost both games yesterday?
I saw their game against YMS and that and that team is big, mean, and physical. They just bullied SDFC off the ball.
Hahaha Marlboro is so bad
Keep the coaches, fire the kids. Sounds like a plan!
Since everyone was a flop at this paseds weekends EDP cup no one speaking up today hun!!! I guess the top 5/6 whatever you guys call yourselves, did not play like a top 5/6.
That's correct. It was a bad weekend.
Weekends are made bad by poor coaching. Why would any coach not start and sparingly play the most talented player on a team? Why would a coach carry players that he has no intention of playing and when he does he knows that they are not up to the same level as the others? Why would anyone believe that college coaches really go to a showcase when all they have to do is look at the empty coaches only car lot? Why would any coach register for a showcase that allows for a 60 minute game? The reality is that some players are realistically attempting to get into college and play soccer while most others think this will just come to them. Is your coach contacting college coaches for you? Is your coach reaching out to those in attendance? Is it part of what he does or is it a burden? How many teams were in attendance at a showcase this past weekend? They all have these issues and if you don't you are VERY lucky.
Hmmm, angry post.
Very few college coaches attend these showcase tournaments. And if they do, they all see the same handful of players and nothing comes of it. Complete waste
That may be your point of view and I do feel there should be more at the showcases but I know my son has received quite a few contacts from playing at these showcases. I dont know if he will attend any of these schools but he has emails with specific moments of matches so they must be there. Maybe you play at a low level? Maybe you play at a high level but are not getting noticed because of your play? Maybe they just had their back turned when you scored or made a good defensive play?
Maybe your son is so awesome that everyone notices him!
Even if that is so you just confirmed that if you are worth being watched you will be
Put yourselves in coaches shoes...seriously, do you think they have the time to watch mediocrasy players? They are interested in the high caliber players. If your child is not high caliber, don't waste your time filming them. Accept the fact that they are not first division players and are not scholarship category. I have.
90% of all NCAA DI - DIII soccer players are not high caliber players, so not sure what the comment above is getting at. There is not a single NCAA player on the entire U-20 USA men's national team. Not one. So that tells you about the caliber of college soccer. Can't even put one player on the national team.
Not concerned about my kid not making national team. Just want soccer to help him get into a high quality college. That's the end game.
The national team players should do well in life without a degree. Soccer pays so well in th US
The team referenced in 3:48 is shlock. Nothing more. Nothing less. Shlock.
MF wins EDP league. 3-2 win over SDFC last night.
Good job MF. MF did show they are the best in this tough EDP division but surprisingly MF although better was not much better as they are an academy team.
You see goal differential?
7.34I don't know what you mean. There's no team mentioned.
I do see the goals for and against. MF is the best team, in my opinion. Just thought that when I saw them I would be wowed, and I really was not.
I'm sure MF is the team with the pompous dad who says his son gets contacted by "quite a few" college coaches while putting down other people's children.
I object! Speculation, your honor.
Where did he/she put down anyone? If the facts disturb you then tell your son to be better.
Good job MF on State Cup and EDP. Excellent team
10.41Post 12.01You don't consider mocking a boy putting him down? Classy. You must be an MF parent too!
If you think 12:01 was mocking someone then you have some real thin skin or you are just upset because you are finally coming to the realization that this soccer stuff all has an end date.
Twist it anyway you like. It's somebody making a mean spirited comment and hiding behind anonymous.
Pathetic that you feel that way.
3 NJ teams in the nations top 5 on got soccer, good job NJ!! Great accomplishment for the boys and the coaches!
NJ is very good competition. Not a surprise here.
I agree that NJ has good teams but in last weekends EDP tournament, Pa and NY won the top flights.
There was only one top flight (9 flights) and yes a team from NY won it. What's your point?
EDP Cup U16 Boys top flight was won by a team from Connecticut. They beat a team from Delaware in the finals. We played the Connecticut team today, lost by 1 goal, good team but beatable. Was a good experience playing them, well mannered kids, parents and coach.
5:19The point is that NJ has good teams but no NJ teams dominated play in this tournament in top flights, not just the top one. Other states have good teams too.
It's been a good run for Match Fit so far, but all of that is going to come to an end. They're going to get schooled in West Virginia. Best of luck Match Fit, you're going to need it.
Why would you think that? Marlboro did well in regionals last year and MF is better
Why everyone mad about this MF team. They are just good
7:01 Have you seen the regionals schedule? What team is going to give Match Fit a hard time?
The team from Pennsylvania in their group, and if they are lucky enough to make it out of their group, whatever team waits for them in the semi's.
sounds like somebody got cut... enjoy your weekend playing video games.
Amazing how you have this blog figured out. You know exactly who is posting what... Your theories probably reveal more about you than you are willing to admit.
not a theory. Either an idiot posted it or someone looking for praise posted it. Either way it does reveal a lot about me, I have common sense.
Really? I just hear anger and cynicism.
So you believe that MF has not chance and will get schooled in regionals? If so you too are not too bright.
I am a well informed neutral and will tell you how Regionsls will go. Group A - Penn Fusion wins the toughest group because Arlington can beat any of these 16 teams on any given day.Group B - Baltimore Celtic will destroy this group as would the top 3 teams in PA, MD or VA. (The Marlboro group of last year)Group C - Match Fit's only competition is Arsenal (big and physical), but it's not enough. MF will easily win the other 2 games.Group D - Loudoun wins easily, but NYand DE will make them earn it... probably the most balanced group, but Loudoun clearly the class.Semifinal matches include 4 teams that could all make noise at Nationals and get to a final. I am confident about the groups, but this is TOUGH!Semi #1 - PF v Loudoun (both teams already punched a ticket to Tulsa for Nationals via National League) I'll pick Loudoun in a 1-0 game pitting some of the best coached teams around.Semi #2 - Celtic v MF (neither qualified for Nationals so a lot to play for) I'll take Celtic in a 2-1 battle.Final - Celtic v Loudoun (both now qualified for Nationals) Loudouns D and keeper (UVA committ) are the difference in a 1-0 win. That will put SDFC, Loudoun, PF and Celtic at Nationals - a testament to the quality of Region 1 soccer. That is all.
MF and Celtic are both high scoring teams, it will be a tough battle and a wonderful game if they do end up playing eachother
Thanks for the info, I know some parents are taking their sons there to tryout now.
Tryout where now?
If Matchfit plays Celtic, they will lose. Matchfit has proved That they struggle against top tier teams, such as 1v1 soccer from Canada.
True. One game is a history. Lol
So is SDFC and Stronghold not top tier? They may take offense to that haha
Definitely not at this moment! They know it too.
MF lost to more teams then 1v1, how about YMS, Marlton, Marlboro, STA? They also win a lot more then they lose. MF will do just fine at Regionals while everyone else is at the beach.
Good luck MF. All things considered, and having gone to a regional in the past, I would rather be at the beach. LOL.
Thanks! You're probably right!!
MatchFit wins 2-0 against PA West in it's first regional game!
New day. New challenge. Prepare perform perfect
You are right, we can't win
You're awesome MF. Please keep us all updated. Good luck!
Matchfit wins the second game against Massachusetts team 3-2 and are now through to the semi finals.
tough competition so far...PA West -- they're barely top 20 in Region 1. And a Mass team? MA is almost the worst on the east coast...just ahead of NH, VT and ME. But credit to you...you won. Let us know when you beat some real footballers.
Pathetic post above. Sitting in nj
10:45, classic knucklehead who is doomed to spend his life rooting against other teams rather than for his own. Let me guess, you are an Eagles fan too.
So I guess there are no good football teams here in NJ. Please don't tell all of the college coaches that are watching our games!
There's good and there's very good.MF good.Celtic very good.Sorry, but you're done tomorrow MF
If you believe the got soccer rankings, MF is the better team.
Giant fan actually. Still doesn't change the facts
What do you do when your not living vicariously through kids from other states?
What do you mean? Nobody said anything about kids from other states or are you trying to say everyone in NJ should be rooting for MF? Maybe everyone would if you were a little more down to earth!
What have I said that is not down to earth? I am just commenting on you. Apparently I hit a nerve! I apologize.
Another year, another NJ team advances to semis but just comes up short. Good try MF.
Great effort MF and outstanding season. Must have been a tough game. Would have liked to see you advance to Nationals. Regionals is a tough tournament.
MF bites the dust of Celtic, not enough quality players. Thats why they are recruiting.
Getting to the semis is not what you wanted I am sure. Still a very good accomplishment. However, you profess to have major college players on your team and more than a few. Maybe you should have advanced a bit more.
There were at least a dozen college coaches watching the semifinal of the regionals. How many were watching you or your kid playing FIFA? That game could have gone either way. It was won on a penalty kick for a handball in overtime. Good luck, Celtics!
That sucks, feel bad for that kid he will unfortunately never forget it.
It was tough, but he will be fine. He also saved a goal earlier in the game.
Good, I hope he remembers that.
Hey 1:03, Celtic has 3 kids who have already committed and a bunch more that will be playing in college. No shame in losing a great game to those guys (no way a good ref makes that call). Should be a great final tomorrow between them and Penn Fusion. Have to admit, not too upset about not going to Tulsa.
1:02. No need for us to recruit, plenty of kids looking to come.
You don't recruit? Is that what you are saying? I don't care if you do, everyone does, just don't hide from it.
Nobody is hiding anything. If everyone does it then why does 1:02 seem to take exception to it? It is not the first time this "recruiting" issue has been mentioned on this blog. An open tryout was held a few weeks ago, maybe some kids were encouraged to attend. If that is recruiting, then so be it. All current players have been offered roster spots for next year. End of story. See you guys next Spring. Best of luck to all in their High School seasons.
Exactly. Again, I don't care if you do it and even if you did it wouldnt mean they got a spot on the team. The only negative is the sign you are sending current players on your team. I like the way MF plays and I think you are a very good team, just not as good as some on that team think you are.
Whatever, it's all about college recruiting now. All of our kids are getting ample opportunity to do that. We have accomplished our main goals and should be in top flights of all showcases next year. I hope every kid, including other teams get to play at the next level if that is what they want. Good luck to all, I really mean that!
PDA just one step away from Nationals.
Not the real nationals, right?
How many nationals are there?
It's real. SSC won it last year.
It is real and some good teas get to go.
Only bogus because you can simply play in a mid level tournament and if you win go to nationals. Smells wrong.
Actually you don't even have to win. Blues going to nationals
Happy 4th to all.
NYC Cup has a good number of colleges attending. My team is not playing. Anyone need a guest player?
Us club is the real nationals.. We all play most of our games and tournaments under us club cards..the other nationals have a ton of mickey mouse rules with sub par leagues and nobody uses their cards but to qualify for state cup under meaningless games. Who ever uses their cards for tournaments where you have to ask permission to travel. The academies only use us club cards and they are above both nationals.. Odp which is under NJ youth soccer is a Joke they charge parents almost $2000 a year for subpar competition..in the future us club will be the only tournament that most teams will want to attend.. Not the other mickey mouse nationals..
You are wrong but let me tell you why. At the beginning of the US club tournament you provide a roster. Throughout the tournament you can change your roster as much as you like. Now, you win and go to Nationals. You can now add more players to your roster. US Club allows you to add players because you already had tryouts and some were cut and others added. By the time you get to nationals you can have a completely different team. Even if they are not added to your roster you can bring them as guest players. That's right, guest players at Nationals. Stupid.
Yeah don't be silly, 1:43. Look at the ranking of the teams involved and it will tell you all you need to know. Anybody can apply to the regionals and "guest up". Have fun in Indiana but please, anyone can sign up.
Anybody hear anything about the new EDP Super Club model for next year?
No but why would that surprise anyone. Just keep coming up with new names and charge more.
All of the teams in the USYS Nationals would beat the teams playing in the Club final rather easily. Just look at the process to get to the finals... The NPL teams are decent sides, but PF, Loudoun, Celtic are on a different level.
Totally correct. And the CA and AZ teams. Even higher level.
It's obvious from your tone that you're the clueless guy that anonymously talks trash... look at the National League results and see how this U.S. Club team did against the USYS top west coast competition (Albion, Surf or Pateadores) or just look at the NYC team that is average on a good day did all year. (Hint: they do very poorly... Like 0 wins between the 2 poor.)
SDFC beat MF today 4-1. What happened MF? You lost both games at the showcase.
SDFC tuning up for Nationals where they will play 3 of the most talented teams in the country and try to get to a National Championship. While MF is finishing out a season where they missed qualifying for that tournament by an incredibly slim margin so are probably not as sharp. The result makes sense when you take context into account. The top 3 NJ, MD, PA and VA sides can all beat each other on any given day... even Barcelona lose several games a year. Chill and just enjoy a really fun and competitive age group.
seriously -- chill. Teams win and lose. Look at the results over a season of play. Every time a top team loses...someone here asks what happened. Stupid question and an even worse way to follow and evaluate soccer.
MF puts a target on their backs because they brag so much about how fantastic they are. They really need to come down to earth. They enjoyed crushing Boca Shore 7-0 and then boasting to everyone about it. Everyone knows Boca is not a top team. MF won. No surprise to anyone . Now MF had a big loss to top team but no one is supposed to notice.
Mf > Barcelona
New players create new problems
What's the problem?
New ways to work together was meant.
Yup. Looks like MF checked out at NYC Cup. Nice tune up for SDFC for Nationals after a tough Spring. Good luck SDFC, make NJ proud!
How do 16 year old boys "check out"? There has to be a different reason. Missing players etc.
They don't check out.
After playing for awhile with a lot on the line, it is tough to get up for a tournament that just doesn't matter. They are a great team, this tournament meant nothing at the end of a very good Season.
I would think that the players would want to impress college coaches. What is more important for kids who want to play in college?
@4.53It sounds like you agree that MF checked out, See you nest spring.
Again. Kids don't check out. Not kids at their level.
Burned out maybe?
Perhaps, but those scores show something worse. Missing players? New players not up to the same level?
HS soccer on the way. Any teams that are supposed to be tops this year?
St. Benedict's. Always #1. All of their academy players seem to get a special allowance to play high school.
NYRB 4 - Chelsea 2. Looks like even the very best can check out.
MF now comparing themselves to Chelsea. To continue the comparison are you saying that you didnt bring your top players?
Have to exclude St. B, cheating the system wont count.Harrison will be very good this year.
Harrison just lost to Cliffside Park in the Bergen's Best summer tournament, and CLiffside Park is not the same team as in the past years. So how good is really Harrison???
Isn't Ranney supposed to be pretty good this year?
Gill St Bernards and Princeton should be a top team
7:56, how in the world can you transfer that onto MF? Get over it, it's time for you to move on.
Has Ranney ever done anything in soccer? Seriously, I am just asking...
Where is Ranney even at? Why are we talking about Ranney?
did you know that a kid from adfc already committed D1 and big 10
I heard that verbal commitments don't always happen.
I heard that verbal commitments aren't binding and don't mean too much.
He is good and will play D1, but what is your point?
If it's the kid I am thinking of its no surprise. He's good and it's becoming that time. Congrats to him.
Players switching HS now so they can put up numbers. NICE
Isn't it too late to switch high schools now? The season started.
Not too late, just sit out
Why bother switching High Schools? Everybody know HS soccer means nothing to college coaches.
It must mean something because every college player's profile says what they did in high school.
They may put it on profile but trust me, college coaches know how uncompetitive HS soccer is when compared to high level club/academy play is. Not worth changing schools over.
Switching schools for a 2 month season doesn't make much sense but some people have money to burn. Another example of pay to play.
HS soccer is a complete waste of time...don't understand why it's such poor quality soccer...even at the "highest" levels in NJ. As an example, I watched high school football on ESPN recently and it's "watchable" -- i.e. decent and of course they televise the best teams in the country, but this still applies to our local HS football team. And of course, college football is outstanding. Then watched a Big 10 men's soccer matchup...not watchable...complete crap. Just don't get it. And yes, my son starts for the HS team.
College soccer is just a better version of HS. Colleges are not preparing kids for MLS. College football does prepare its players for the NFL.
It is poor quality because each school is trying to field a team. Think of the number of HS teams there are and now you need to divide the players up into all of them. The real issue isnt the quality of play but more the quality of play that is allowed by the ref's. It can become rugby and in 4 years of watching HS soccer I have not seen one red card, not ONE. Pushing, cursing, fouls from behind, delay of game, hits in the head, you name it and you will see it at every HS game you watch. Yet, by the end of the game MAYBE 2 yellows have been handed out. Yes, the coaches need to control it, but these guys are science teachers that pretend to know soccer. Go to a small HS and if you have any talent at all you will put up big goal numbers, doesnt mean you are good just means you are playing in a glorified rec league. Go to the larger HS schedules and the play gets a bit better but much more physical.
Are clubs going to offer year-round teams? Everyone knows that HS soccer does nothing for development.
Another parent that thinks they know from the sidelines. Red cards (game ejections) likely lead to further game suspensions that may also extend to school suspensions and a disciplinary record on student transcripts.School officials may also be called to testify which no school official wants to deal with. So, refs need to really be sure when they pull out the red card.
So, if high school soccer sucks so much and everyone knows that, tell me why so many kids play it? I see kids from every club team around playing soccer in high school. Having a great time.....usually showing more emotion and drive then I EVER see at the club tournaments. Is it perhaps because the kids love the experience? That they are playing for fun? That it isn't a "job" like club? You all need to get over yourself on this board. Play club or die. And there are clubs that play year round - they are called academies. If you want to play year round - make one.
Totally agree. And these same clubs forced the boys to stop playing all other sports at u8 preventing many from enjoying other sports as well.
pay to play is always the complaint of the dumb and dumb and lazy.
Yeah right. Nobody pays to play it's free for the smart ones and travel expenses don't count. But you can always raise the funds from all the dumb, lazy, rich people
1:30AMWhy don't you pay? Who's paying for you?
guys, very simple. what in life is free? please. if you want to buy a house, go to school, train for a job, even interview for a job, you have to pay for what you want, or at least figure it out. what soccer choices should all be just given to anyone who wants it? otherwise, pack up your stuff and walk to germany.
I am so lucky that my son plays soccer and not American football. The sad news of hearing that your son is dead from playing a game is so overwhelming to me. To bury your child because of a hit in a football game is barbaric....My condolences to the Murray family. Something needs to be done. No more kids dying on the fields, please.
do your homework on sports injuries. concussions in soccer a big problem. one or two incidents in football a year doesn't make it barbaric. more people die in the bathtub every year. taking a shower is barbaric? of course sad story but...
Let the scoring begin!!! The best scoring option in the shore will now be allowed to show it.
USA Today: 9 high school boys lost their lives last year playing football from head and spinal cord injuries. All other combined sports including soccer, 0. I could not find how many people died from shower and or bathtub deaths . Maybe you could enlighten all of us with your educated knowledge on those stats.By the way, the young man I was referring to, on my last comment, died from a ruptured spleen, most likely from "Mano".
no one is going to minimize deaths in football, but there is risk in everything. girls soccer is a disaster for concusions. quick google of drowings in bathtubs in 2000 - 341.
What about how many kids have had soccer ending non-life threatening injuries because of cheap play? I blame the coaches and Refs when I see games where a number of kids are getting hurt or the game is out of control. Say what you want but that lack of discipline on the Coaches and Refs is one facet that drags US soccer development.
Blame coaches and parents first. Refs are responding to usually after the fact cheap play.
Isn't there an code of ethics for coaches? Sometimes I really wonder what is is they're trying to teach kids. Is it win at all costs? Bullying is a big problem and it seems that some coaches think bullying is a good thing.
a parent drives his kid to a game and during the drive talks about the game. After the game on the drive home the parent does more talking sometimes complimentary sometimes contradicting the message the coach is giving the players. Most coaches teach their players to compete at all cost. Compete for every loose ball. Compete for 50/50 balls. Compete on headers. Competition is what drives anyone to be the best they can be in soccer or outside of it. Win at all cost is bull.
Good clean competition I agree with. Winning at all costs, no way. I've heard coaches say to their players, " Do whatever you have to do so they do mot score." Coaches shouldn't be teaching kids that. That's just encouraging dirty play.
If a kid competiting for a 50/50 throws his body in front of a shot to "do whatever he has to not to let the other team score" and clumsily runs through a guy is that dirty? Or a part of the game? What are we talking about here??? Have you seen a kid get seriously injured recently on a play that was undoubtably a dirty tackle with no doubt intent to injure another?? And if you have did you hear the coach yelling before or after "go for his knee! Great work!! You crushed him!"0 instances of anything like that. SSC coach is bad but not even him.no one
The coach knows that he'll get a red card if the ref hears him say that and yes, I've seen plenty of intentional dirty moves that the coach has taught his players.
Give us an example if you have plenty of examples by all means continue I would like to hear just one
Sure, play dumb. Tripping a player in front of goal, holding him back by his shirt, Obstructing his line of vision, using his hands to stop a goal, late tackles, dives.
Tactical fouls or decisions... Not dirty play. Try again with an actual example
Keep telling yourself that those are all legal plays. Why do refs hand out cards then? You're just a coach trying to defend your club's dirty policy. Teaching little kids how to cheat and maybe get away with it. We need more coaches like you. Not!
...Nice burn. Not!This is U17 boys blog Who is a little kid at this age? Outfield player using hands to stop a goal...red card but a player still must make the penalty. It's tactical the player is giving his team a chance. Ask Ghana's Asamoah Gyan how he felt about that in 2010 World Cup vs UruguayYou know me almost as well as you know how to play the game within the game. maybe you should start coaching I bet you'd be really good at it.
Plenty of examples where coaches tell their team not to allow certain key players from other team from bringing the ball into the box for a shot. Players know exactly what this means if they want to stay on the field. It means whatever you have to do to stop the player, do it. This often leads to very physical tackles from more unskilled defensive players that rely on aggressive play. Coaches often say they would rather give a free kick from 25 yards than a play in the box from a good skilled player. If you don't think this is happening, you are not paying attn.
Yes nothing comes easy. If you are beat concede the foul and tread carefully the rest of the game with that yellow card. It's called a tactical foul. Give up a foul outside of the box instead of inside all day long. That is how the game is played. It is not dirty or cheating it is a part of the game. Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo these players along with many many others are very talented. they get kicked because it is part of the game trying to slow them down. They understand this so they have evolved they're game they understand when to dribble and when to pass. Often when they take off on a surging run forward chances are they will get kicked and they know that but they do it anyway. Set pieces account for over 60% of goals in any given league. Not always directly from first ball but the second ball or the third wave. Cross gets sent in, it is headed out but your still under pressure keep getting that ball in front of goal you will create chaos in front of the goal. Long throw ins create chaos. It's not always the beautiful game. That is how the game is played by certain teams though. It's common sense. What are you complaining about?? It is literally part of the game. We all know it happens and we all challenge our skillful attackers to get more creative. It's not easy breaking down a teams who ar coached well and keep a good compact team shape. If it were a walk in the park it would be a walk in the park not a soccer game.
Plenty of examples but not one specific where unskilled defenders were overly aggressive and seriously injured another player. So you cannot possible believe that it is dirty cheating poorly coached play. Sounds a lot more like smart play to me. Learn the game. Get better at the game by creating space for yourself with body feints, turns, off ball movement, combination passes and you will get kicked less.
2:15 AM......Your ignorance annoys me.Take a shot from outside the box put that shot on target and force the goalie into a tough save. Next time fake the shot make the defender dive in and walk around him and pass into the corner from inside the box. It's as much of a mental game as it is physical one.
Maybe the coaches who consider themselves tactical geniuses should realize that they are coaching impressionable kids and not professional players. These kids admire you until they realize that your only goal is to win the game that will mean nothing after one season.
The players at the highest levels have split seconds to react and make choices in a game. Split seconds to do what they think will give their team the best possible chance to win.. Oh and by the way 16 year olds aren't exactly children they can make their own decisions for better or worse. At the end of the day It's not about winning or losing its about creating memories that will last forever. Hopefully your son gets to know what it feels like to be apart of a winning team. It's a good feeling when all the hard work you've put in pays off. A memory that won't be forgotten.
Let's be honest here. u17b soccer in this area is a butcher job at best. high school and club is all about hacking away and trying to bulldoze through on both sides of the ball. this is why players with full beards and from abroad with fake birth certificates get further ahead in soccer here.most coaches are 80s throwbacks.
High school ball I agree with that. Club ball however is much more technical.
Oct 3 @4:10Everyone knows that you aren't waiting until kids are 16 to teach these dirty tactics. All your club's teams are taught about "professional" fouls. That's not what youth sports are about. You coaches try to feed your egos by winning youth games at all costs.
Assumptions. Accusations. Complaints. All baseless. 0 facts other than...it's a fact that you can't speak for everyone....." Everyone knows that...." Must be tiring complaining all the time.
Good muppet response.
No one is out trying to hurt anyone, stop the madness.
And so it has begun. The Arrival!Panther Fever, catch it!
