U16B - Competition is thick, diverse and talented

What can we say? This age bracket attracts a lot of attention and several teams have very different rosters going into Fall 2014.

Better than ever.

Region 1 at this age bracket offers a lot of talent at the top of the rankings.
U16 Boys soccer is where the action is.

From what I can tell NJ had no champions.

STA went 1-1-1 in Needham
SDFC did well at Delco
SJ Barons mixed results at Delco
Marlboro semi finals at Delco
Howell didn't do well at al at Delco
Jersey Knights were finalists in a very low level tournament.

Anonymous said...

A bit shocking that NJ couldn't rise above competition this weekend. State champs Marlboro didn't win in the 2nd division of Delco...did they over achieve winning state cup or is there really that much parody between teems in this region..interesting...seems like a lot of hype over inconsistent results

Anonymous said...

Yes 3-0 and losing in pk's in the semis is 100% overhyped. What team dies your son play for dope

Anonymous said...

6:09 is right about the parody. Marlboro dad your EDP record says so in big bold print

Anonymous said...

Marlboro and Howell's behaviour at Delco was THE absolute poorest example of NJ soccer in all aspects, No matter the results and or rankings those two teams will never get any respect. Howell was severely outplayed and looked as if they were overflighted. By the way the Howell parents and coach acted, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't invited back. Marlboro's kick and run worked, but when it came to the big game they clearly lack possession and countered with physical play. In the end they were tired, beat and the volume of the uneducated parents indicated such.

Anonymous said...

So who is the Marlboro/Howell stalker at delco? SHB? SDFC? Anyone else there?? Based on results maybe you should have been practicing and not watching

Anonymous said...

State cup,
Marlton and SDFC will advance to the finals Sunday. Marlton will surprise SDFC and win a close one.

Then everyone can pick apart Marlton as that is what we seem to do to any team that is having success.

Anonymous said...

The word is parity. Not parody. Although parody is actually a pretty funny substitution when you think about it.

Anonymous said...

Marlboro parents are out of control..they are only following the lead of their coach..

Anonymous said...

We have played Marlboro numerous times and their parents are just like any other teams parents. Not sure what you mean.

Anonymous said...

May 27, 2014 at 10:16 PM is clearly trying to start & instigate issues between parent groups where no issues exist. This type of behavior is worse than what is describe in the post. Knock it off and grow up. Be positive and thankful that these boys are on the pitch and not involved in negative activities.

Anonymous said...

The negative comments are based on either jealousy, stupidity or a combination of both.

Anonymous said...

Marlton parent, we have played Marlboro a lot, and they have always been good games. Every once in a while a parent will be a bit over the top, on both sides. But in the grand scheme, all is well. There are some parents more vocal then others on every team. Deal with it, there is no other alternative.

Anonymous said...

Forum is becoming boring and controlled by a couple people, you post what you observed or an opinion of a team or team parents and are being called negative. Lets water down this forum and the. 2 people controlling this forum will the only 2 posting. Come on freedom of opinions should be welcome..

Anonymous said...

Like a good debate your opinions are stronger and carry some credibility when you present both sides of the coin. That is of course if you're not looking to watch the train wreck.

Anonymous said...

Great weekend by the sounders. Coming back strong

Anonymous said...

Any reason why maps team playing in town tournaments, are they really hard up for some got soccer points?

Anonymous said...

They must all be hard up for the points smacking around the travel teams!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Hope they can sleep well at night, beating up on all those travel league teams ,that is so wrong.

Anonymous said...

I just looked up another tournament for this weekend and one maps team and the rest are all travel league . Coaches really! Next level arsenal you should be a same of your self .

Anonymous said...

If your sons teams didn't perform as well as you would have liked over the weekend doesn't mean you should trash another teams accomplishment over their weekend. The Columbia Invitational looked to be a competitive tournament on paper. I say well done Holmdel Sounders

Anonymous said...

If it is about points then there wouldn't be any if there wasn't good teams. That's how points are earned. MAPS team. Big deal

Anonymous said...

If you are to look at the Jersey Knights performance this past weekend I am not sure how they keep the state cup game closer then a 3 goal loss. That would be an accomplishment. Marlton will roll into the finals legs intact.

Anonymous said...

SAC Columbia Invitational is a quality tournament. No town teams there. Very good competition with teams from VA & MD. Not sure what the earlier poster meant.

Anonymous said...

For Marlton's sake let's just hope the kids run those legs as much as you run your mouth.

Anonymous said...

1:27, how was that comment needed? It is an opinion, prediction of what will occur on Saturday. Do you truly think that the Galacticos have a legit shot at winning that game? If you do, that is your opinion and I don't think you should be demeaned.

Updated NJ Rankings

1. Marlboro - After winning the NJ Cup they currently sit atop of NJ and will until someone knocks them off, potentially this weekend.

2. SDFC - Good results as of lately but, nothing too spectacular. Should be a great semi-final matchup vs. Marlboro on Saturday.

3. Marlton - Very, very consistent year on the whole. Also doing very well in EDP as of late.

4. Stronghold - Definitely, they have had a down year as of their standards but still a very good team.

5. South Jersey Barons - Have done well in EDP thus far but still very mixed results across the board. Interesting 3-0 thumping of Marlboro in EDP.

6. Morris STA - Very good year as they are ranked in nation's top 30 on got soccer. It should also be noted that they lost to Stronghold in quarters of state cup in PKs.

7. Howell - It's very unclear as to what level team they are, due to their inconsistency but, for whatever reason, they seem to give every team in NJ a true run for their money.

8. Hudson - Tied Stronghold this season in EDP however, have had some shocking results like the 4-0 loss to Marlboro in the NJYS state cup.

9. Holmdel - After winning the Columbia Tournament this past weekend in MD, they have proven that they may be on the rise. Great tourney, solid win. It should be noted that they were able to tie the MD state champs and advance.

10. Jersey Knights - Great season for this team as they advanced to both state cup semis regardless of how they did so but still definitely a large notch lower than the top 4-6 teams in NJ.

Anonymous said...

Howell is not a soccer team, they have almost no skill at all. NJ Force is better then Howell and Jersey Knights and Holmdel. Although Holmdel did impress this past weekend.

Anonymous said...

According to their record Knights have owned Force so why would they be considered better coach?

Anonymous said...

Owned? Come on you know who the better team is

Anonymous said...

How has Galacticos owned NJ Force? They tied every time they played except for one time NJ Force beat them in the Jersey Shore Invitational light years ago. NJ Force plays in EDP against quality teams. Also NJ Force had to really play games to advance in the NJ Cup losing to SDFC 11-10 in pk's. I think that's pretty good. Not saying that NJ Force is the best team out there, but they are better than Jersey Knights.

it really went that far in PK's? Must have been stressful.

Anonymous said...

Anybody at the SDFC v Malboro game? Score?

Anonymous said...

Marlboro in pk's

Anonymous said...

How come SDFC's game is so variable? Marlton should win it all.

Anonymous said...

Galacticos!!!!! Now shut up

Anonymous said...

Galaticos stun Marlton in the last minute of doubt OT 2-1.
Marlboro beats SDFC 2-1 in pks (6-5).
Marlboro vs SDFC was a great game both teams missed a bunch of looks.

Marlboro vs Jersey Knights tomorrow in the final.

Anonymous said...

No disrespect 1:40 but i watched the game.. Correct me if im wrong but you got lucky. Marlton had prob 10 chances to put away that game.. They missed an open net 2 times.. I dont think you won that game i think marlton just cant finish

Knights were solid today. Congrats

Anonymous said...

Congrats to Marlboro for showing on various occasions over the past few weeks that they deserve the #1 Nj ranking

Anonymous said...

Knights were not "solid" they got lucky.. Marlboro will beat them 3-0

Anonymous said...

Marlton no need to be a sore loser

Anonymous said...

6:54 That was your prediction going into the semis today. Marlton 3-0 against Galacticos, only it worked against you. Not a Galacticos parent, but when your team wins it is always a great win and you guys have issues when anybody posts a comment that their team's loss was self inflicted. Funny you are saying the same exact thing now. Accept your defeat graciously and stop belittling your opponent.

Anonymous said...

Not belittling anyone, but not so sure that Knights were so solid or if it was more like Marlton blew every scoring opportunity they had, which was probably about 8. Looked pretty self inflicted to me. No one to blame but themselves for this one. Then they lost in the 29th minute of OT. Painful to say the least.

Anonymous said...

Anyone, how is it going this morning?

Marlboro wins 2-0

anyone paying attention to super y this summer?

I must tip my hat to the "dark horse" of the season....Congratulations Marlboro on your win. You beat two good teams this weekend.

Anonymous said...

How the hell??? Wow

Anonymous said...

Congrats to Marlboro you outplayed us today. We hope to play you again soon! You showed much more class and sportsmanship in victory then Marlton did in defeat. I do think the Jersey Knights showed all that they do belong in the "conversation" of top NJ teams. Keep working and only good will come

Anonymous said...

Any reason all you sounders came to a tryout? I thought you were improving. What gives?

Congratulations to Marlboro on another state cup win. Although it is arguable that they do not always perform in tournaments or EDP, winning big games is a part of the game and winning two state cups is a big accomplishment. Also I watched the Galacticos Marlton game and noticed many missed opportunities by both teams, primarily Marlton. Unfortunate ending to the game. Good luck to all in future performances.

Anonymous said...

I looked at Marlboro's EDP record and it isn't impressive. However, their two state cup runs were impressive and had victories over every top team in NJ with the exception of STA who they didn't play. The difference is very apparent and it has to be that they played a shorter bench in the state cups and they cant or don't play a short bench in tournaments or EDP. Either way, what I take out of it is that they have a great 11, 12 or 13 but after that they may need some help.

Anonymous said...

Sounders tried out where? Maybe they are trying to go to an academy and good luck to them.

Anonymous said...

Congrats to Marlboro for a solid performance. Would love to see them and SDFC do it again.

SDFC dad you should spend more time practicing with your son, rather then spending time on this forum. then you would not loose to inferior teams

Anonymous said...

Sdfc stop being a sore looser and stop calling Marlboro names

9:14 is not from SDFC. This is someone trying to cause problems.

Good Job Marlboro on your win this past weekend.

Anonymous said...

I agree with 7:08. Stop trying to cause problems unnecessarily where none exist.

Anonymous said...

The use of CAPS tells me it's a kid trying to be funny and cause some trouble. I agree with 7:08. Not someone from SDFC.

Anonymous said...

9:14 Why are you trying to cause problems by pretending to be a SDFC parent?

What is your true motivation behind this? What are you trying to accomplish & why are you trying to make someone else look bad? Do not think for a moment that you are anonymous.

Anonymous said...

How would you or anyone else know where someone is from. Seems to me that the poster was angry at a different poster, not sure why they would lie about where they are from or even tell where they are from for that matter. I think it is just the way the world works. If you are on top, and clearly Marlboro is in that conversation, people will be jealous and say stupid things. Marlboro beat some good teams to win both state cups, no backdoor championships in either. Not sure who can argue that they deserved it. Congrats Marlboro, we hope to beat you next time but for now you deserve to be on top.

Anonymous said...

i Agree with 8:49. Marlboro had solid performances throughout its state cup run and for now do deserve to be on top.

I also agree with 7:57, the impersonation to create strife between 2 parent groups unnecessarily when none exists is what's not needed.

Anonymous said...

I believe all this BS began when someone called Marlboro thugs. (which by the way I find comical because Marlboro can be called a lot of things but thugs just isn't one of them) So, what was the intent there?

Anonymous said...

Big ups to Marlboro for great success this year. My opinion Right now Marlboro sits comfortably on top for winning both cups. Good teams find ways to win the important ones. But No team is great at U15 there is just too much growth and development left to be had. I'm excited to see what these players look like next year, see who puts in the extra work over the summer. Who improves most physically, mentally and technically. There are some very exciting prospects. Mistakes will happen, it's not about whether we make them or not that's important...it's what we do after the mistake that defines us(parents included.) it's exhausting reading how angry some people are..what kind of example does that set for your children? Enjoy the moment and don't get caught up in the BS. Youth soccer isn't a forever moment. Enjoy it.

Anonymous said...

Some interesting ranking changes.
Jersey Knights #5
Howell down to #17
Hudson down to #22
PDA down to #38 (now that is a bang for your buck!)

Anonymous said...

ball is life

Anonymous said...

congrats to marlboro... now the true measure of your play is in the upcoming rhode island regionals. this is the true measure for your team. The cups were just practice. who knows maybe you will get to meet SDFC there. good luck.

Anonymous said...

My son plays for a team that registered for only one of the two state cup competitions. I believe that the true measure for Marlboro has already been accomplished. They won both SC and that couldn't have been an easy thing to do. Why is the true measure RI? All the teams that will be playing in RI have proven they are top teams. Someone will come out on top and everyone else will lose. That doesn't diminish what any of the SC winners have accomplished. If you are trying to tell us that SDFC will be there also and that they will have to beat you again, then just say it.

Anonymous said...

Marlboro is this years state champion, twice over. Marlboro's real test will be against other state champions, not SDFC. as good a year they've had they aren't state champions so the dynamic is different, therefore the true measure of how good this Marlboro team can be will be based on results in RI. Best of luck to them. Best representative for NJ this year they proved it

Anonymous said...

Marlboro without a doubt is this year state champion twice over.

The reality is that there just may be a rematch at regionals with SDFC based upon the tournament lottery and how the brackets are formed. The good news is that this is good for everyone and will make for another great game.

Anonymous said...

Something to look forward to SDFC and Marlboro, drive to RI and play each other.

Anonymous said...

Agree with 2:58, The fact that NJ is going to have 2 teams representing our state at Regionals is Great and says a lot about the level of youth soccer in our state.

Congratulations to

Marlboro - US Club & NJYS State Champs
and
SDFC - Region 1 Regional Wild Card

Good job Players, Coaches & Trainers !!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

3:05 you are right. It is something for the players to look forward to in RI. Playing in a Regional Cup is a great experience. They may play each other and they may not. If they do it will be a good game.

Anonymous said...

There is a lot of talk about Sounders players looking elsewhere. Any truth to this?

Anonymous said...

Why? Are you looking to add some talent to your team?

Anonymous said...

no, not looking for any talent. Heard the sounders are improving. Also heard players are trying out for other teams and just asked the question. One poster up above mentioned this also.

Anonymous said...

Don't the Sounders carry a bunch of players? Maybe the bottom half are looking, that would make sense.

Anonymous said...

Where could they go to play at their level, which is good, and local? Maybe academy tryouts? The are free to do what they want and I am sure someone would pick up some. Don't they have RW as their coach, he is supposed to be real good.

Anonymous said...

Why is this years State Champion twice, playing the second bracket in the EDP Cup? Marlton in the third bracket, confusing to say the least.

Anonymous said...

Ask EDP. Only 8 in top bracket. Could have done 12 or 16. If only 8 in a bracket 4 will get points. There is your answer

Anonymous said...

I looked at the current NJ state rankings on gotsoccer. Jersey Knights had a big jump up and I was surprised to see Stronghold as low as they are. Wasn't Hudson UTD a top 3 team this time last year? Now they are in the 20's. Very up and down with a lot of teams. SDFC, Marlboro, Marlton seem to be the only constants.

Anonymous said...

Give and take a few losses those teams have been some of NJs best so far.

Anonymous said...

Still a big Stronghold believer. They will be back.

Anonymous said...

surprising how quickly they dropped out of the discussion, just look back 2 months ago on this blog, lots of big stronghold talk

Anonymous said...

Self lauded depth. Don't worry they will rebuild. SDFC still the best for my money

Anonymous said...

FYI cape express could have won the NCS state cup. Cape is good!!!!!

Anonymous said...

That is a joke right, or do the lower level state cup teams really think that way?

Anonymous said...

Who do u guys think are going to win the 1st, 2nd,3rd bracket of edp cup this weekend?

Anonymous said...

1st
Arlington over OBGC

2nd
VSA over Marlton

3rd
HBC over NYSC

Anonymous said...

As far as the 2nd flight, bracket 1 is concerned in the EDP cup, any team could move on. Downtown, Morris and State Champs Marlboro could upend Marlton any given day. Vice versa too.

A weird weekend of soccer in EDP Cup bracket 2, the number 1 (Marlboro) 2 (Marlton) and 4 (STA) in the state all played each other. Also Downtown was in that bracket..STA beat Marlboro 2-0. Marlboro beat Marlton 2-1. Marlton beat STA 2-0. So the number 1,2,4 teams in the state all had a win and a lose against each other. Downtown won that side of the bracket win a win over Marlboro, and 2 ties against STA and Marlton. SJEB gets 3 easy games on the other side of the bracket and wins all of them. SJEB ends up beating Downtown in the final.. These brackets were not very even

Anonymous said...

All close and good games. Good job by all

Anonymous said...

Downtown had 2 wins and a tie to win their bracket. Final was a good game and SJEB came out on top. Barons bracket was a little easier but the final game was a really good one.

Anonymous said...

Yes the Barons won and yes they deserved it We hope to see them on a different day. Our Marlboro match was top notch. STA decent. Marlton a blood bath. Maybe the roughest dirtiest team we have played. Our bracket was more difficult and very competitive but in the end the Barons came out in top.

Anonymous said...

SJEB making a strong case for being a top 3 team in the state. All the hard work has turned the season around.

SAO PAULO — Police say they are investigating the alleged rape of an American woman visiting the Brazilian World Cup host city of Cuiaba.

The police department says in a statement the 24-year-old woman told them she was attacked Friday night after the Chile-Australia match.

She told police she was sleeping in the house of someone she had met in a party held to celebrate Chile’s victory when she was attacked. Her screams woke up her boyfriend and scared away the rapist.

Police say she was treated at a local hospital and is now in the care of representatives of the U.S. Embassy

Past weekend, correct, SJEB side of bracket was ridiculously easy... Can't blame them and they got their job done, but seriously EDP are you for real? Marlboro, Marlton, and STA on same side and the others on the other side? Pretty crazy how stupid you can be. There is no logic.

Anonymous said...

Good job gotsoccer... You have Egg Harbor U14 team sitting on top of NJ standings in first place in the U15 group. Hopefully that gets fixed quick.

A very very good team should not spend time obsessing with got soccer points. Interesting how a Downtown parent has referred to your team as being the dirtiest they have played. Sad.

My sons team has played Marlton probably 4 times over the last year. Not sure where anyone would say there are dirty. Interesting.

Anonymous said...

Hard to even think of teams that are "dirty". The old Hudson team was as was Ridgefield. Not one I can think of now though. Marlton not dirty at all.

Anonymous said...

Region1 championships is a tournament with all region 1 state champions, and the region 1 league champion or representative. This year SDFC is the region 1 rep. To be played next week at RI. Schedules are out, good luck to the NY/NJ teams.

Anonymous said...

SDFC got a real tough draw. Marlboro's draw was a bit better but still difficult. Penn Fusion, keep your hotel rooms because you are going to easily be in the semi's. NYE should be fine if they can get by DE Rush.

predict semis as PAE vs VA and NYE vs MD.

Anonymous said...

SDFC has not won anything in 2 years..not sure why they keep padding themselves in the back...

Anonymous said...

Yes, they keep inserting padding under the skin of their back. I wish they would stop doing that as they haven't won anything in 2 years and don't deserve that cushioned inside their back

Anonymous said...

Who really wins anything. SDFC plays a highly competitive schedule, trains hard and have improved. That's a win

Anonymous said...

I see PDA is hosting the US Club Regionals end of this month. The Super Group has some good teams involved, SSC, YMS, HOTA, STA etc. NJ Force was put in the lower bracket. Dont you apply for one or the other?

Anonymous said...

Poor showing by STA and even a worse showing by Howell this weekend. Rider Cup guys, you are supposed to win this. STA has been playing well so they get a pass but Howell has done nothing all year with the exception of winning a poor EDP flight. Hopefully the new players you picked up can play soccer.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Howell was missing players? Who knows.

Anonymous said...

Is SSC still considered a good team?

Anonymous said...

Of course they are, why do you ask?

Anonymous said...

Howell needs more than new players to be competitive. I'm willing to bet they received more cards than goals….

Anonymous said...

How did the NJ teams do in the Regionals? I cant find results.

Anonymous said...

NJ Force applied for the Super Group, but were placed in Premiere.

Anonymous said...

Force, that is NOT true. If you applied for one or the other that is what you get placed in. If you meant super and applied for premier they will not switch you. They will not.

Anonymous said...

Force is inconsistent. Flashes of brilliance at times but a weak bench makes them not as well rounded as most in the top 10. Winning the lower brackets with convincingly might help their cause the next time around.

Force has a couple of really good players. The problem they have is that they dont train with other really good players. They really should challenge themselves elsewhere.

I agree.

Regional update??

Marlboro in semis on Mon. v. Delaware Rush. Sdfc eliminated.

Great job by Marlboro winning all 3 games in group play and advancing. Tough weekend for SDFC with 2 ties and a loss - only scores 1 goal and gave up 2. Good luck to Marlboro in the semis.

how do loudoun red, fsa, mass stars and sdfc end up in same bracket? none of the weakest nh, vt, me, ri or wv in that bracket? good luck to malboro

Anonymous said...

Random draw. No crazy scores so all 16 seem fairly equal. Loudon still the favorite

Anonymous said...

Here's how I see it. My sons team didn't make regionals I would hope that any nj team would do well because that makes my sons team look better. Looking at the scores SDFC did fine and Marlboro is in the semis. Good luck

Anonymous said...

SDFC had a tough draw..outclassed but a great effort..let's go for the sweep Marlboro!

Anonymous said...

Marlboro lost 2-0 in the semi-finals. Loudon and Delaware in final. Good effort Marlboro!

Anonymous said...

Well done Marlboro.

SSC wins today on the march to nationals

Anonymous said...

Would much rather have Marlboro or SDFC representing NJ..could get pretty ugly.

Anonymous said...

Ugly? What do you mean?

Anonymous said...

SSC lost to PDA? Wow! I am shocked. Can someone give details of that game?

Anonymous said...

PDA scored more goals

Anonymous said...

You can say the US lost today because of what goes on right here, right now. Parents give no time for development at the younger ages because we are all consumed with the win, then as you move up, expect to pay outrageous prices for coaches from overseas who could really care less but to win and get paid more or to nail down a green card. ODP is a total joke in this state. 300 million people in this country and we can't produce a world class competitive soccer team. Seriously, we're screwed up from the bottom up.

Says PDA

Anonymous said...

SSC a top team? PDA national champs then

Anonymous said...

Odd result. Congratulations to PDA.

Anonymous said...

PDA sorry but SSC falcons one step closer to nationals. We will prove nj strong

Anonymous said...

SSC will embarrass NJ. You heard it here first.

Anonymous said...

Will SSC be the only team at nationals ranked #8 in their state?

Anonymous said...

Did they win? Scores not posted.

Anonymous said...

SSC will be just fine. Good luck to all local teams

Anonymous said...

851: do you really think there are seven NJ teams better than SSC in this age group. C'mon really? Rankings fluctuate as teams loose points after a calendar year. falcons will be fine and get back up there soon.

Anonymous said...

NY Hota Thunder and SSC Falcons both advance to US Club Nationals as final called because of severe storm.

Anonymous said...

Why did SSC lose the points? Because they didn't win. So yes

Anonymous said...

Will SSC bring guests.

Anonymous said...

SSC didn't win the tournament. Lost to PDA and goes to nationals. Seems about right

Anonymous said...

you guys are still talking about state cup and all this nonsense. play academy an see how competitive it is

Anonymous said...

Spoken like a duped NJSA believer...

Anonymous said...

PDA? MF? NJSA? All good teams but none would run over the top club teams. Redbulls are the only real academy.

Anonymous said...

If you ever need a really good laugh go watch Marlboro play and just sit back and watch their so called "coach" and the 90 minutes of nonsense from him on the sideline. Someone should get him some big shoes and a red nose to go with his sideline act.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like someone is a little jealous of Marlboro's consistent success.

Anonymous said...

Not a Marlboro fan but someone needs a life. No one was talking about Marlboro so that post is out of the blue and not provoked. We play Marlboro quite often and at the beginning it was not always a pretty scene. Over the years the parents and the players all seem to get to know one another and now the games are very competitive yet not out of order. To "pick" on Marlboro now does not seem to be the right time. Won both State Cups, went to the regional semi's and will be playing in Nationals. Who knows where they will go but spring of 2014 was their season. They lose 2 players and they can fall quickly, they add 2 players and they can be as good for a long time. Sound familiar? Yes, Marlboro is on the same path as just about every top team.

2:07, well put.

match fit lost the academy status and PDA and red bull would be very good as a club team. njsa is iffy
