This is a response to someone's post regarding ECNL teams (or lack of) in Bethesda's top bracket. First there are 2 ECNl teams in that bracket, Bethesda and Penn Fusion. And as far as the competition in the 2nd tier bracket I think it is pretty good. There are a number of ECNL teams (not that that means they are the greatest thing since sliced bread) but they are competent solid teams. Annandale is actually a better team now than when they were at regionals and I would guess they win that bracket (and I don't have a girl playing for Annandale). I have spoken to people who put brackets together from various tournaments and they do account for different factors. Past performance at tournament and how far you are traveling. All things being equal the team that travels the farthest usually gets the nod over equal team in bracket considerations. Not an exact science.PS for all those traveling to MD for the Bethesda tournament. If you have games at the MD Soccerplex there is a fixed speed camera right before the entrance. Speed limit is 30mph and if your coming from out of town its a bummer to get hit by that one.Hope all the girls have a great weekend.
What happened to our writers? Bethesda?
What do we think about the question of whether the ECNL will ever concentrate talent as intended? I am not saying that many of the ECNL teams are top in their age groups, but many also are not. Lots of the USYSA teams would like to play World Class, PDA, FC Stars, Bethesda, and the R2 and R4 teams regularly. I am guessing that these teams would rather play some of the better USYSA teams over the soccer plusses that are on their ECNL schedule. Especially if they have to travel 6 hours to play blow out games. What US Club doesn't understand is that if they let a few select teams into the club based league, and dropped those that can't compete, it would actually strengthen the league's attractiveness by improving the consistency of the competition and potentially decrease travel. Yes the argument is that the current ECNL clubs would object to losing their competitive advantage. There is an element of anticompetitive -antitrust violations- in this whole thing. To address the objections above, ECNL member clubs would keep their place in the ECNL A league if they preserve a GD in the less than 8 range. Above that and they are replaced by a team that keeps the travel reasonable and provides better competition. They can get back in with a GD greater than 10 and a first or second place finish in the B league (NPL?). Can sell that advantage- you're in unless you are too weak, and thus keep its club constituency happy. If a club has more than 3 non competitive teams, the club is dropped from the ECNL league. This would force competition and induce the bubble clubs to pour resources into their weaker teams to keep the designation and improve the product for the players (consumers). Competition is good for this market and we parents should demand it. Let in a few TEAMS to replace the uncompetitive teams which would most likely improve both competition and the travel expense and a better model is achieved. Another point: There is still enough competition outside of the ECNL to keep the USYSA teams viable. If there were no decent teams in R1 or National league, then the ECNL would have the monopoly on competition and be a self perpetuating model. That, however, doesn't seem to be happening on the East coast- R1 and largely R3. Maybe with the number of clubs within a relatively small geographic area, Texas and SoCal, the ECNL does provide the competition necessary for optimal development and enjoyment, but this is not the case in the rest of the country.
Bethesda Tournament final as others predicted. Strikers vs Bethesda. Had the opportunity to watch due to delayed travel plans. Amazing soccer played by U14's. Bethesda had it 2-1 until blistering pressure by strikers in final minute resulted in goal. Strikers put one in early in first overtime to win. Quality game all around. Two guys standing next to me on hill were major level D1 coaches and their comment was "like fishing in a barrel". There was so much talent on the field they couldn't decide who to watch. Congrats to both Strikers for the win and Bethesda for the effort. Great way to end a weekend of soccer.
Was at game as well. Lots of competition in the top flight, getting to final was not easy for either team. Great game to watch a lot of back and forth with a blistering finish. D1 coaches scouting U14 players? There were older girls there playing finals - who knows maybe they had free time...
Nice that BSC put there team in the TOP bracket so they could avoid playing McLean or Annadale which they put both teams in the second tier nice home cooking there which isn't a surprise . BTW Mclean ECNL won the 2nd tier 1-0 over Annadale.
Your saying Bethesda needed to pull some strings to have their top team play in the top bracket at their own tournament? I would say as the defending Maryland state champ and current leader in their ECNL division they belonged their. Also, their results speak for themselves. Didn't they beat ABGC at regionals 4-0? Don't they have a date with McLean in March? I wouldn't say they are avoiding anyone. Especially not those teams. McLean is a nice team, but they are relatively new to the scene. Needed just a little more on the resume to garner top bracket consideration. Winning the second division will help for next year. Congrats to PA Strikers.
McLean is a tough call, but agree with last post - not enough history yet. After strong showing this weekend and continued success in ECNL they should be a no brainer to be in top flight next year. Not so sure about ABGC. They lost players to McLean and then lost second flight final to them, clearly they were in right bracket. Annandale has tournament coming up soon and would guess they put their team in top flight? Who knows we will see. Considering Bethesda's success vs ABGC / Ashburn in Wags, VCCL and regionals I doubt they are avoiding them.
8:32 #fraud#fake#liar. I was with a d1 coach all weekend. She joked about people thinking there going to get scouted at u14. She won't even look at u15. Would they watch a soccer game at u14. Yes. There soccer finatics. But not while older groups are playing. If DS paid them to be there perhaps. But not to the point of fish in the barrel comments make sense. Especially since there is less the 8 d1 players on those two teams combined. The coach and I watched all u17 games but 2. That was a u16 game that involved someone she wanted to see play who she trained. Hate to burst your bubble. Ain't happening. I like both Bethesda and Strikers. But if you truly believe in your system there is no reason to make stuff up. Unless your a troll trying to start stuff
That is an odd response to someone simply taking note of college coaches watching a game and offering a positive comment. No one said 20 offers went out that weekend to Strikers or Bethesda kids. Most know that the kids in the national pool at U14 are getting college interest and those kids are committing at late u15 and early u16. Penn Fusion u15have 4 kids who have been in the national pool and an additioanl one who has been in the national odp pool. There are at least 2 regional pool players in addition to the others already metioned. There were many coaches present at those games and even eigth graders have been visiting colleges (ACC) at the invitation of the college coach (through their club coach and players). The next tier down kids who have been to NTC and regional level ODP or above (still relevant for girls u15 and under)are getting some committments at u15. Read the Strikers and Bethesda college placement histories; no doubt more than 8 will play D1.
Perhaps you've been drinking to much of the cool aid. To most d1 coaches scouting a u14 game is cause for a good chuckle. And I would place money there is not 8 d1 prospects in that game. The last Strikers team was amazing. How many d1 players were on that team. As of yet the current Strikers team is not even close to the old one. At Penn Fusion your talking about G, A , Rd, $, . They lost at Bethesda. Great kids. But let's be clear. Attending a camp held at the university is not them recruiting you. I've heard one of those parents discussing this early recruitment. And I've heard d1 coaches laugh at the thought of it. In the words of a d1 coach "who would be stupid enough to commit valuable limitted resources to a 15 or 16 yr old who may not have even reached puberty and is 2-3 years away from college. Injuries, life decisions and a million other things can happen". I think sometimes or a lot of times parents misread or lie about the contact there kids have with coaches.
Nope no Kool-Aid and not camps. For the most part, you don't even have the right kids. Take a look at the most recent (starts Saturday at the Cason CA national training center) national camp invitees at u14 (99)to help you out a bit. Personally, I too think its crazy, but it is happening, maybe not with your kid, but it is happening with others. You are right Strikers and Bethesda aren't very good...
From past experience, my daughter's club team got a few looks at U15, but mostly it started at U16. Nothing at U14. I wouldn't be shocked if more than 8 of theses girls play D1 however. My daughter's team had 15 girls go on to play D1 soccer. I do understand that some of these kids will make choices to not continue or may even ultimately choose another sport, but I would say easily 12 to 16 (from the current rosters) move on to D1 soccer. At U17, I would say these two teams may place 24-28 kids on D1 teams. Remember there are 329 D1 women's soccer programs. Speaking from experience, some D1 programs are really bad and will be much worse than your kid's club team. Both these teams will get plenty of exposure moving forward, No need to rush things.
Going to a U14 National Training Camp and receiving a college scholarship are not one in the same. If your daughter is headed out to Carson, CA next week, then she has a leg up on the competition. But this doesn't translate into 14 year old kids getting solid offers on a regular basis. Not going to say it hasn't ever happened or won't. Right now top programs are finished with the 2014 class and are working on the 2015 and 2016 classes. 2017 offers will begin for a select few in late spring or summer. 2018's still 1-1/2 to 2 years away.
Agree with your timetable. Going to the u14 camp does put most kids on the accelerated timetable you describe with committments in the 10th grade. No one has said 8th graders are getting offers only that some have attracted early intrest.
You either didn't talk to a D1 coach or he doesn't understand human biology.
Please explain this human biology. I talk to a d1 coach every single day multiple times. So let's here your biology lesson.
Puberty starts years before 15 or 16. Try 12 or 13. They may not be done with puberty but they've certainly hit it. Tell me again how often you talk to a D1 coach, it's so exciting. You are so knowledgeable and powerful. Oooooooh.
Easy now it could be true. Ok I'll bite. Why do you talk to a D1 coach daily multiple times? Are you married to him/her? Is it your mom? Is it your boss? What state? I'm hooked here.
I talk to a D1 coach daily because this is a blog that has no accountability and no mechanism to verify what I am saying. Because my daughter plays for a club that played in Bethesda, that day I decided to post about how much talent is on my daughter's team, and I boasted about my daughter's team in the guise of a D1 coach. Tomorrow, i will dislike the fact that my daughter was left her previous team so I will lob some grenades at that team and watch all the responses. Somedays, I just find it fun to bash any old team to see if people will respond. The D1 coach you ask, that is a figment f my imagination created to give credibility to my opinions.
Please turn the TV off, I hear your mom calling...
Any predictions for NEWSS?
Did I mention I talk to a D1 coach multiple times daily? Oh and girls don't go through puberty until the are 15 or 16. I need a biology lesson and for the record I'm an idiot.
"who may not have reached puberty". Was the quote by the poster. Some of the best athletes who are skinny and tall seam to reach puberty later. Some not having there period until 16. The girl who was thin and fast could suddenly see her body change. Puberty can be a game changer. It affects a lot of things. This is one off the reasons most coaches do not scout young ages. Just a fact. Fire insults at the guy all you want it's a fact. Something some organizations may try to convince you of for there own financial game. I was at the strikers game and saw no such thing. Doesent mean they couldn't have been there but I also highly doubt the fish in the barrel comment.
Puberty has nothing to do with it, eighth grade is just too young for college coaches to care. Puberty at 16 that maybe 1 percent of girls. I don't talk to D1 coaches or make up that I talk to D1 coaches, it's just my opinion. If I were you and I did talk to a D1 coach, I'd probably ask the coach to introduce my child to the English professor especially if you are (or is it your) teaching her English. There, their, and they are is taught in the 4th grade, maybe 3rd.
Can we talk soccer. Crazies!
I'm new to this forum, just a couple of questions.1. Based on experience (and hopefully not just opinion) what percentage of the players on any and all of the academy teams actually get money to play soccer in college. I have 'heard' there is not as much money in college soccer scholarships as most imagine. I honestly have no idea and I am a parent of a child that will likely be able to play college soccer (lower - mid level). Just curious if all of the money parents are putting in does get some type of return beyond the benefits of playing for an academy level team.2. How many colleges look for multi-sport athletes these days? It seems like everything is so specialized but I have a daughter playing three sports quite well. NOT a dominant athlete but able to play at high level. Just not a standout player/athlete. My daughter is a great student and academics will determine where she goes but she has interest in playing in college if she can. I have to imagine that most teams (especially DII and DIII) must be made up of a number of roll players too, no?3. Lastly, why do many posts start off with "I'm not a Toms River parent?" I'm local to Toms River but I'm not sure if it is because of some bad apples from TR posting here or if it is a remark regarding something else.3.
The highest level players are ID'd in the 9th grade because they have been invited to national camps. The top programs will want a leg up on these players because those are the players that separate their programs from the rest. The next level of players, those on high level club teams(say top 10 ecnl for example) will be committed to colleges most likely in the tenth grade. Most of these players will be offered a full ride somewhere and some will take less if the offer is not from a school high on their list. The rest of the top college programs will fill in their rosters with girls who are not yet commited in their junior and senior years of hs and also with walkons to save money. This is fact and i didn't speak to any D1 coaches. If you know any parents on high level teams in the area, talk to them. Also, if your daughter is interested in the Ivy League, you may have to wait until 11th grade as they take a little longer to commit because of academics. This whole puberty thing is comical to read. Puberty has less to do with girls' development than you think. You see more differences in play from girls who are just bigger and stronger at younger ages who can no longer do the things now that were able to do two years ago. If puberty were the issue that some of you claim, national ID programs wouldn't be inviting 8th graders to national camps. To 659, since your daughter is a great student, let her go where she wants and she can get money for her superior academics. The college will love her because they can save money for the lesser students, if its D1 or D2.
Just a little something for you to chew!Did you know that 75-80% of PDAs u17s were committed last year. Ivy League, top d1. Silly you.Yes, last year when they were sophomores
You should clarify your statement. You mean 75-80% of PDA North U17 ECNL team, right? Certainly not all the 17's with the club, like south and second north team.
The fact is, there are several girls on PDA's U16 that already have college commitments. I personally know of several Sophmores in HS that have been offerd full rides or are being highly recruited by D1 Schools. If your daughter is fortunate enough to play on a good high level team and compete at the top tournaments (CASL,Disney,Jeff Cup,PDA etc)top 3 brackets, they will get noticed as a freshman. I know this for a fact, there is leg work that the kid and parents have to do as far as reaching out to coaches before tournaments but, It does happen. I'm sure someone will reply back with an ignorant reply but that's the nature of this blog, having your kid in the right situation means everything in youth soccer. Thats a fact also!
D1 schools are reaching out to there top recruits for 2016 now, that is a fact also!
Forum is so quite when Toms River is struggling, been mighty calm last couple weeks. Makes you wonder who is doing all the chirping on here, surely isn't TR parents when they are losing. Unbelievable!
C'mon guys cut Toms River a break. Fact of the matter is it has been really windy these past 2 weekends. LOL :)
U14 Get off your Soap Box when it matters all the cream will rise to the Top !
Manhattan over North Rockland in pks in newss final.
1:31 Thanks for your understanding. Not only was it windy, but our whole team was hurt and we were playing with the U-12 roster.
This response is to parent with daughter who plays (multiple) sports but is not d1 level at any.My daughter sounds very much like yours. She is a senior and played 3 varsity sports every year starting as a sophomore. What you will find is that schools will be impressed that your daughter maintained her high GPA while playing so many sports during her HS stint. It will not be lost on them and will help when it comes to applying for the school she wants to go to. My daughter received partial (1/3) scholarship to play at D3 level but she had no interest in those schools and really did not want to play in college. She was accepted to a major D1 school as an academic and if she still wants to play any sports, she can play in any number of on campus leagues.
2:29 and 3:35 thank you for your feedback.I am just trying to get a perspective on things. I 'think' my daughter will still want to play in college, provided she is right for the team. Just trying to figure out if she has any chance with the expectation she will not be a stud player or receiving any money for athletics. Intramural programs are always a possibility too.Much appreciated!
Plenty of opprotunities to play women's college soccer. The facts are that most schools carry large rosters(kind of like an ecnl team). The average 9 total scholarships are divided amongest the top recruits with most getting a 1/4,1/3, and some a 1/2,not many full scholarships(kind of like a UFO-you hear about them but no one can ever seem to prove it) So 28-30 player rosters with most on partial scholarships leaves 10 or so players that are non-scholarship players or walk ons- Although coaches will promise that a player COULD earn a scholarship. Remenber also that most of these scholarships are given out year to year and that 1/2 the girls quit for many reasons during the four years. A women's college roster with 6-8 Seniors is a tremendous credit to the coach and his program. Extremely rare.
Good soccer on TV (ESPN U) if you can get it. Girls NCAA Championships Friday night and final Sunday. You can catch UVA play their possession game. Maybe one day our daughters will be lucky enough to play in games like these.Enjoy.
225, women's soccer d1 programs have 14 equivalent scholarships to distribute throughout their roster.5-10 walkons, academic, financial aid means there are about 20 players for that 14. Not sure what kind of proof you're looking for, but full rides happen more than you think. Some schools try to get away with not offering to the best players, but only UNC can get away with that. Everyone else who tries turns into rutgers.6-8 seniors usually means they recruited that class very well and they were fortunate not to have injuries.Top programs don't make a habit of pulling scholarships from athletes. Word gets around and that would be a recruiting nightmare. They will usually just make life miserable for the player by never playing them and hope they subsequently quit, which they will do if they don't transfer to a lesser program if they still want to play.
What are some of the teams doing this winter? Are most taking a month or so off? Are many continuing outside practices- on turf? Are many supporting indoor facilities? My child's team is off until well into January and picking up outside, weather permitting. No indoor scheduled.
Congrats to the three jersey girls who made it to the U18 WNT. Who says NJ soccer os overrated?
Games games and more games. Futsal session 1 and 2, Indoor 1 session, lined up three scrimmages outside on turf under the lights. Play up a year, make two teams for futsal and indoor. Play games. At this age the girls need soccer IQ. Not interested in winning, but giving players game pressure experience. Hammer bad teams and fight to the finish on teams better/or older.Train twice a week Play/train and act like a top team.

Anyone know what's going on with STA team. Heard half the team left . Any truth?
A bunch, but not half. Replacements have already been practicing with team.
What happened to make them leave?
4 coaches in 4 years
Go back to the U12 blog and keep your STA hate over there. And if you had any brains, you would know that the U14s don't have a B team so the new girls are new from the outside. And no, your nemesis EB is not the coach of that team. The reality of the situation is Jersey United formed a new U14 team this year. Last spring one of the coaches over there who has a personal relationship with several parents tried to lure the whole STA team over with promises of being the new ASL team. JU and STA have historically had a rocky relationship as they draw from the same geographic region. Ultimately JU failed in that attempt and the team decided to stay together for another year. However, a few of the girls who for whatever reason were still not satisfied with new coaches and/or playing time secretly continued their relationship with JU and began to practice over there this fall. Of course, 13 year old girls will talk and this led to a stressful fall for the remaining girls. As a result a few others started looking at their options. At the end of the fall, 4 girls decided to leave for JU and 2 others went elsewhere. Hoping now the remaining girls, who are a great bunch of kids, and the new additions can once again start building a strong team without all the discontent.
I find it incredible that a coach would come on this blog. NOt sure if any other but a second tier coach would come on. 13g blogger and u12g and u10g.
surprised North Rock or Smithtown not on the Region I list
Yes, would think it would be attractive for North Rockland. Smithtown probably happy being part of EDL....Although Santos is EDL too and is playing both.
Can you promise new players it won't be 5 coach's in five years or six in six. I always thought you go to teams with a proven coach. Scary!!!
It was actually one coach for 3 years and then 2 in pAst year when "new" coach left for Copa after beingwith the team only last spring.
North Rockland is part of the NYCSL NPL and they are only carded through US Club. This is why they don't play state cup either. They play in most of the top tournaments anyway.
Any teams playing DTS 3v3 this weekend?
My daughter's team is going. They won last year.
"Ultimately JU failed in the attempt and the team decided to stay together for another year"STA coach fails to point out that they cut the training fees in half in a ply for the team to stay. Head Coach missed entire pre-season and the 1st 5 NPL game...8 girls in total left all for different reason but same general conesus. The current coach staff was not developing the team and the team was going no where fast, my daughter went to new team by herself, she misses the girls but finally being challegned! Best of luck to the great girls that stayed
Just as an FYI, the STA coach did not write the above. I'm a parent. Good luck at IGFA. Yes, it is still a great bunch of girls.
Were the girls that left, the stronger players or ones that were mad about their playing time?
I think the point being made is Second Tier Academy is run poorly. Just a bunch of young kids not professional coach"s. When 8 kids leave you know there is a problem. It's hard to get 2 good kids a season finding 8 is impossible. Was mr. personality the coach?
EDL schedule posted and only five games in each division. Could probably handle Region I on top of that no problem. Surprised they aren't playing everybody in their EDL age group.
Are games really starting in the middle of February??
http://www.nationalpremierleagues.com/Standings/index_E.htmlWinner of each flight play in a Final for EDL Title. Each of these teams will also be playing regular EDP games too. Their EDP flight will look like this, but with 3-4 non-NPL teams in also to make up a full 8-9 game schedule.
Who? And what is EDL??Thanks
why are not all the EDP teams in this new EDL???
To be in an NPL league, which the new EDL is, you have to have a team entered at every age group. A lot of the EDP teams just have one or two strong teams.
So where are top tier teams such as Freehold celtics, NJSA Bulldogs Grey, SDFC, Toms River Everton, Mercer play. They are in the top EDP bracket this past season? Are those teams grouped together in a separate bracket?
Good to see theyre putting a real NPL together and have the best teams from EDP in it like NJ Stallions, Manhattan Santos, Smithtown Kickers. A few weaker teams too but needed to round it out somehow.
U14 Girls have been dissapointing in the US Youth Soccer National League! Only two of them actually qualified to be there, the other two somehow got in. Teams that should be in National League:NJ Stallions Stampede*** FC Penn Strikers***NEFC Elite***Manhattan SantosNorth Rockland Sting Rowdies***Chantilly SC 99 Elite***ABGC United FC 99G***ISA Elite 99 (Maybe a stretch)Century V XtremeEmpire United Buffalo (Technically, but they have done poorly)Teams that are there:Century V Xtreme (Doing well)Empire United Buffalo (Doing Poorly)Syracuse Developement Academy (???)YMS Pride (WHY!!?)The fact that YMS Pride got in leads me to believe Chantilly 99 Elite didn't apply. But WOW.
Are you for real ? Teams that should be in are: ONLY 1 NEFC , but we all know they opt not to be.
Frankly there are too many leagues and the end result is watered down competition. When the girls are younger (U10-U12) it doesn't matter much, but by U14 they need to be playing against the best possible teams and talent. At this point although not perfect ECNL is the best place for this to happen.
And where are all the non ECNL team supposed to play?
Become part of a team or club that can meet NPL standard requirements or should be pushing your coach to have applied to USYS National League or Premier League. Not sure why those teams mentioned above didn't apply maybe they're waiting until the HS years to do it or maybe theyre perfectly content doing what they are now and attending numerous tournaments.
ECNL isn't the end all be all. Playing in a league to get decent games in on a weekly basis is what a league provides, playing in TOP TOURNAMNTS within the TOP THREE BRACKETS will do more for your child than any league. CASL tournament (NON ECNL EVENT) had major D1-2 coaches at tournament, lots of them. Disney (NON ECNL EVENT)will have even more, every Club based league (NPL,ECNL etc) has the same issues, every club doesn't have strong teams in very age group. Travel to tournaments, not league games, Gotsoccer will list all coaches attending tournaments where it says coaches attending, not making this up. See for yourself! Same coaches that go to ECNL National Events are at these other major tournaments, do your research before you reply back with a childish response please..
Technically only NEFC "qualified" (I think? Century & Empire may have technically qualified) but I was saying other teams that could likely hang in this league from Region 1. However ABGC & FC Penn (who I think are the two best in Region 1 at the moment) didn't even play Region 1 Premier League last year so i don't think they could even qualify for it. I like the National League, State Cup, Regionals, Top Showcase route better than ECNL. ECNL doesn't seem that high stakes to me nor does it sound fun.
You just don't get it. Good night!
To 8:19. It you think playing in top tournaments in the 2nd or 3rd "bracket" is comparable to ECNL you just don't understand ECNL. I'm not from Jersey but I know a lot of Jersey people read this site so let me explain it to you this way. PDA's TOP team plays in ECNL and their other teams play in 2nd and 3rd brackets at tournaments. PDA and 15 other top clubs will play in the "Champions League" which is the 16 best teams in ECNL (in Seattle). My daughter was on a team that won state cup, played in regionals (2-1) lost to NEFC who won the region, and played in all the top tournaments on the east coast (except Disney). Yes you will be seen at top tournaments (in top bracket) I never said you wouldn't. I'm not criticizing where anyones daughter plays just saying from my experience (5 years of watching various leagues) ECNL is by far the best I've seen. Plus at ECNL sanctioned tournaments you play ONE game a day not this nonsensical 2 or sometimes 3 games a day. Thats not soccer. Every league tries to assure you play the best teams possible. Unfortunately there are very few leagues that can accommodate most of the best clubs in the country, but ECNL is one of them. Now that wasn't childish was it?
One last thing regarding ECNL. From what I have seen a number of girls who are very good players tend to leave their non ECNL teams (if they are close) and tryout for ECNL club. I live in tri state area and you would be surprised at how many kids we have trying out for team and how far they are willing to travel. For example a very good team like ABGC lost girls to Mclean. Premier and SAC lost players to Bethesda and Freestate. Even though the actual number of new players to make ECNL team are small - the result is a team always getting better not worse, (in most cases).
10:59..the childish comment was for those who tend to bash other teams, leagues etc. Your post is valid but.. If you look at Bethesda,CASL tournament you will see ECNL teams in second and sometimes third bracket, ECNL is what it is, your child can achieve the same thing playing on a highly competitive NON ECNL team that plays top tournaments. Its a fact! The top ECNL club in Jersey sets up friendlies with NON ECNL teams at older age groups and D1 coaches come to watch, that's a fact also. I am not taking anything away from ECNL, top teams find a way to play each other. Look at the coaches attending Bethesda, CASL, Disney.. list of coaches attending is similar to ECNL national events, that's a fact, on website for all to see. College Coaches don't care who you play week to week, they go to tournaments to watch as many kids as possible. A College Coach said " why go see two teams play a league game when they can go to a quality tournament and watch hundreds. Just stating facts! I wouldn't speak on it if I didn't experience it.
10:59.. I also think you took post personally, wasn't intended for that. Lots of negative comments posted in the past, a respectable debate is always welcomed..
3:09. I totally agree with what you said here. If you are a top team playing in (mostly) top brackets at the top tournaments your daughter will be in an excellent place to be seen. I also agree that there are plenty of scouts at these tournaments and for the most part you are correct regarding the lack of scouting at regular season games. Although we have a number of local catholic school coaches scouting games for our local girls hoping to attend one of those high schools. We travel to do the "friendlies" with top tier teams as well and agree this is another good venue to be seen. My post about ECNL was strictly about the quality of competition we play week in and week out. We play a number of teams that we have never played (even at tournaments) because they simply don't travel much until U14. For the most part every game is a hard fought win, lose or tie, although we have yet to lose. That said I do see some ECNl divisions that are not as competitive but I believe that is just the reality for a league that incorporates the whole country. That's why champions league will be so important - top teams in ECNL duke it out as the scouts watch.Sounds like your daughter is on a very similar as mine, enjoy the ride and Merry Christmas!
It's a well known fact that with the advent of ECNL the Disney Showcase has gone from being *the* premiere tournament to attend over the holidays to a 2nd tier tournament. That is not to say a Disney attendee will not be recruited and play in college. Far from it. But if you look at the college commit list between ECNL clubs and non-ECNL clubs you *will* see trends and patterns. What you *won't* see of native born players is the cost of each financial package offered.

How can anyone say that is anything but a tough league to play in. Some good tough teams.
How can i find the list of applied teams for the Manhattan Spring Kickoff Classic?
There is no reason other than incompetent management that NJ ODP shouldn't be hugely successful. NJ has fewer DA and ECNL teams compared to the absilute number of players than PA and NY. There are many outstanding players that could benefit from a well run program. That Nj ODP is so pathetic speaks to the underlying disaster that is NJ USYSA programming. Similarly the USYSA leagues have been replaced at the higher levels by US club. US club has id2 but only for recommended players. They should consider an open tryout id program similar to ODP and it would be hugely successful and a valuable service to the players. Clean sweep of the NJ USYSA office or USYSA is doomed (if it isn't already dead) in NJ
As long as the Region 1 premier league continues to be more attractive than a watered down EDP, USYS will stay as a preferred league - especially if US Club continues to exclude independent teams. Exclusionary US Club policies will keep a faint pulse active for USYS for now.
In Maryland it is very poorly run and considered by most to be a waste of money. Very few if any of the top players in MD tryout for ODP. ODP used to be the primary vehicle to be seen regionally and or nationally, but not anymore. It still remains a viable option for girls who are not currently on a ECNL or region 1 premier team. The girls that are on ECNL / Region 1 premier usually don't tryout for ODP.
I was told by an Academy coach and a person that is involved in US Club that the Id2 recommendations were to be only the girls that made it to ODP regional level. That way the program would look good to the outside view.Pretty sad. Image over substance.
What about the kids in id2 who dont play ODP? How can they then be recommended?I understand what you are saying and probably there is an element of truth, but clearly not every id2 player was a regional ODP player
NJ ODP is a ripoff, waste of time. Definitely an ego booster for the delusional parents who thinks their kid will be the next Mia Hamm. Money grabbing at its best, shame is, parents will continue to do it knowing it is worthless.. such a shame.
Perhaps 9:50 misunderstood what "an Academy coach and a person that is involved in US Club" said or meant. Your recommendations for players really should be for players of regional caliber or above, see US Clubs rating system taken directly from their online recommendation form. A player is unlikely to receive an invitation once recommended with a rating below 3.5-4, truth is if it's not above a 4 they still may not get an invitation. Keep in mind two things, a coach's reputation is on the line when making recommendations and the purpose of id2 and odp for that matter is to find and develop players for the national team, think about that. From the US Club online recommendation form: Please use the following rating system: 5.0- National Team level caliber4.5- National Team pool level caliber4.0- Regional Team level caliber3.5- Regional Team pool level caliber3.0- State Team level caliber2.5- State Team pool level caliber2.0- Solid club player caliber1.0- Good lower level club player caliber
when do they start this rating system?
10:53 when the ODP director tells you that they get it wrong 75% of the time in the opening speech (at least that is what they said to my older daughters age group two years ago)then that makes the whole system of them rating and excepting those players not very useful. It really is a money grab with very little interest of who are the better players.
10 ;53SINCE THESE ARE DEVLOPING PLAYERS. AFTER CLAISSIFIED AS A REGIONAL POOL PLAYER, IT PROBABLY A CRAP SHOOT INTO WHO IS GOING TO DEVLOP INTO WHAT.
Does EDP re flight teams in the Spring based upon the Fall results and try to group the better teams together to improve the level of competition or do they just stick with the flights from the Fall and keep them together based on geography??
EDP does re-flight teams after each season or if teams request to move upward or downward.
What about between North South and Central? Would they move the top teams from each of those groups all into one new group in the Spring? Samet thing for the teams that finished in the middle of each of those three North South Central brackets would they then put all of those teams together in the Spring in one new bracket to put all of them with teams of similar caliber??
If all the coaches requested what your proposing, EDP would do that. EDP works with the coaches and what's best for each team. The problem you will find is the travel/geographical area of teams. Let's face facts, no mid level or bottom 1/3 finisher is going to drive 3-4 hours across 2 states for one game. If it's an academy team-paid trainer,it will never happen because they have other games to coach.
It's a flawed concept anyway. After one season of all the supposed top teams being bunched together, there would be a bottom three there again - so the best teams would only be pitted against each other once or possibly every other season. Second flaw is that the bottom teams in the north might be much better than all but the best team or two in the south. Can't tell you are the same caliber just because you win your area. First and second division in each area is best for competitiveness - move up or down based on performance. The edp cups or other tournaments can be used to match up teams from other areas.
Guess that's why there is EDL. EDP on the girls side is no better than what JAGS used to be but gives out a ton of gotsoccer points. The top few gotsoccer ranked teams got a lot of their points from EDP and many of those games were not the best competition.
EDP is much better then JAGS. The problem with JAGS is they took on teams that were no better then mid level in basic leagues, which is why JAGS became so watered down. JAGS used to only take the best teams, then they became no different then any other NJYS league, "we'll take everyone and anyone". I'll give you the points through EDP, not a fan of the process.

I only see 1 or 2 teams that can even compete with the higher level teams. The rest are not even close.
with those other teams making it to NPL these Tier 1 brackets have definitely been watered down.
if your club cant get it together enough to get you into the NPL, good teams will suffer this fate.
Considering EDL is only four or five games and they start feb 15 to end April 5, it seems those teams might be doing EDP schedule as well. EDP uses Sundays that could go alongside the EDL dates and then Saturdays up to Memorial Day. Everyone might be misunderstanding the EDL. Is there anyone who has inside info? Is EDL just in addition to EDP?
EDL has bracket A and B so i would think that NPL do not play non-NPL teams so Bracket A and B can have cross over games. Why would an NPL team play an EDP team specially those you have listed above?
EDL schedule is posted with no crossover games. A winner plays B winner to name champion. Maybe EDP brackets go back to fall arrangements so they can fill their schedules and get their points. Maybe next year there's more edp teams and they become top flight.
When are the EDP brackets coming out? i could not find them in the website
look above at January 12, 2014 at 12:57 PM one of the GU14 coaches or managers must have posted it.
Is that for real or just somebody guessing what happens if you pull the EDL teams out?
PDA toms river, how funny is that? Where will you play? PDA already has an NPL team B team - is this an NPL C team?
Well PDA and Toms River. What advantage to Toms River? They are Higher Ranked than all PDA teams in this age group, Half the cost, not as much politics from above. PDA that worried that the good players are not all on the PDA roster. Or are they just making up for the loss of good players from Atletica to Matchfit.
Would be the D team. What does higher rank mean other than they get EDP points and play a million tournaments since Gunners, Pride and Atletica have all beaten Toms River. The fields are horrible down there too.
Now we have Mtchfit and Parsippany. Looks like it will be town teams and PDA or Matchfit. This is not good for kids. In the real world we call this a monopoly.
It didn't take long for the PDA parents to come out.
Not a PDA parent... Normal parent wondering why PDA would dilute their brand even further, unless they are planning a capital build, say for an indoor facility? Or did toms river promise them an indoor facility in exchange for the PDA name? Matchfit has no brand, philosophy, or centralized control, so no surprise there. They have always been out of control.
^^ $$$ ^^
Toms River Everton will not become PDA Everton. The parents dont want it and wont have it forced on them. Thanks , but no thanks.
Did anyone notice there's a PDA Florida? He is a businessman. Get the cash while the brand is hot. Up until they get too spread out to stay up in the rankings, their name seems to be able to lure better players and they won't need to actually develop players - they can take players other teams have developed. Of course it's a business and he is capitalizing on a good plan. The smart move now is to keep north intact and unaffected by expansion to ensure there is still a lure for the name.
Who cares..... Toms River who?? And PDA already has its teams at this age group and apparently is looking for some more money and for the folks at the shore to subsidize some more. Like most of these "affiliations" it probably won't take off and will be status quo and everyone will forget about it soon enough. Maybe at the younger ages, maybe...
oh thank god dont let the horrible PDA be forced upon you Toms River Everton dont have it no no. please stay down there and spend thousands of dollars to play in edp instead of edl or npl or ecnl and attend a million tournaments in lower flights to get those point and loose to our B and C teams that sounds like a much better plan.
I had heard that it wasn't affecting the older teams and that this age group wasnt involved and was staying put as their current team with no changes. It was for the younger teams and to give parents a possible non-daddy coach option. That could be great or no better and all depends on who the coach is. Maybe its someone with a lot of experience training and coaching and has a proven track record of developing kids and placing them in good college programs or maybe its a young kid who played a lot of soccer in Europe and was a phenom but with little experience and has no clue how to effectively train and manage young kids and their parents. All depends on the coach no? I'm sure Toms River has some horrible dad coaches who played a lot of soccer but are clueless as to how to effectively train a youth team, but I'm sure they have some good ones too. Probably the same for PDA or other clubs. They clearly have some tremendous players that were trained by some great coaches but we've also seen the young european guy who is freaking out on the sidelines and is clueless as to how to effectively motivate and train young kids. Pick the program and coach that you think is the best fit for your kid and situation and enjoy and let your kid enjoy and get the most out of it they can.
Dont be so fast to believe tr parents. I heard at the last few meetings it was proposed to move 6 or 8 girls from this age up to the top teams and to fill out the roster of this team as PDA Shore. And also to offer paid posistions to the coaches of your team. Pack your bags.
Why would the blog remove my comment all i did was to warn the toms river parents not to allow what happen to holmdel from match fit to let it happen to themnwith pda ????
Any info on jefferson cup acceptance?
Nope nope and again nope. Twitter posts will provide top flights shortly. The rest come Monday.
Really who cares? Yawn. Hopefully they will appoint a better DOC than the South girls side. Someone that can speak coherently and honestly. Move on. Parents that want their kids playing in powder blue, no matter how far removed or lower level than their ECNL teams, will pay. If they are willing to pay, good for PDA. if your kid is not on the ECNL team it does not matter where she plays NPL, as long as rhey can compete there. Get your kid on a good competitive team with good coaches. It will be the same as playing for, south, shore, mountain range, west, exit 7 and below, or whatever they come up with next, to keep the $$ rolling in.
Yes ,anyone can take a team of basically all star girls and have success .You dont need to be a great soccer mind to do that. But to build a team as little girls and keep them mostly together, and to be able to compete at these higher levels against the high paid coaches and all star lineups, now that is a feat. Just to be in the conversation is a victory.
Amen to poster 3:33, well said.
Interesting comment since I've heard that team has lost many players over the years and that they have paid trainers that do the actual soccer training and have so for years, so I guess yes good job to those PAID coaches.
Everton and SJEB in the same Jefferson bracket. Stallions and Gunners together in another. Not sure if I'd prefer these head to heads or would like to see then spread across the four brackets.
@ 3:25 poster, Very well said and unfortunately, very accurate. PDA could care less about team development, what they need is team funding. This new D team will further support their 8 superstar Gunners, just like Pride and Athletica are currently doing.
Maybe PDA Shore/TR will send three girls up to practice with the Gunnars too. We all know how well that worked out for the Pride.
i thought that clubs cannot have more than one NPL team so how can TR Everton play NPL since PDA already has an NPL team which is the PDA Pride. They will have four u14 teams one in each: ECNLPDAEDPJAGSor two in EDP Also most of the players in the PDA ECNL team have been on that team for years so i doubt they will bring players form TR Everton to take their spots!!!Those are the only possibility
Maybe they go USYS Region 1 premier
ASL is an option on top of Region 1.

Here's my top 8 but of course I'm just "anonymous" - TRE, Stampede, Rowdies, Hotspurs, NEFC, ABGC, Bethesda, Penn Strikers.
Apparently the gunners coach covets a few of their top players. Enough so to offer a huge first year discount for them to switch over. I wonder how thats going to go over with the gunners parents.
Not trying to stir the pot but just trying to understand something. What benefit is it to girls to play on a B, C, or even D team and pay the same tuition? Is there a promise of playing for gunners? Do they get the same training?
Here's my top eight for Jefferson Cup, not in any specific order:United FA Rockland Rowdies PDA Gunners Blue NJ StallionsABGC UnitedNEFC EliteBethesda ECNLPA Strikers
Those would seem to be a pretty good guess.
Any other teams form NJ in the top bracket of Jefferson Cup? Such as NJSA or South Jersey Barons? why not?
Did someone really start a post with "I heard". Must be true then.
9:01 yesterday posted top Jefferson flight. Other nj teams are there
I guess loyalty is only check deep over at PDA. Taking over whole clubs to pilfer a few girls for their top teams. The question you must ask yourself is,"is it my daughters spot that gets sold"? Or my friends daughter? Soccer really sucks sometimes doesn"t it?
This happens everywhere. I've seen whole very good (A) teams from another club come and displace an existing underperforming (A) team from current club. If your A team is not that good and your with a big club any and everything can happen. There is no loyalty, why do people always assume that teams will always stick together? ECNL forced a lot of movement. Girls who were playing for non ECNL clubs looked to move. Coaches tried to cut deals for themselves and their best players (package deal), to get onto ECNl club. On our ECNL team you have a 1 year deal and thats it. After that if you don't make the team the next year you play on B, C or move to another club. Nothing complicated about it.
Or in other words, Arrogance will get you nowhere because the next "ones" parents also have check books.
What does "arrogance" have to do with anything? I'm not a PDA parent but good for them if their club is growing and they have "consumers" willing to buy their product. Our club has (3) U14 girls teams and there were enough girls at the tryouts to form a 4th if they wanted - but they opted not to. All girls pay the same price regardless of what team they are on, and all get very good training. If anyone is unhappy regarding the price paid compared to what ECNL team is doing they can leave and find another team / club? The only time money should even be mentioned is when you are evaluating what type of experience (training) your daughter is getting. Thats it. Club dues are chump change compared to ECNL travel which could easily add another $8 - $10 thousand. And what if your daughter was on an ECNL team, paying the additional travel cost and not playing that much? I could only imagine what you might be saying about money then. If your daughter is happy playing where she is you should be happy. If not, find another place that might suit her better. Bashing other clubs is unnecessary .
Arrogance abounds on this site. It is always good to see it knocked down a peg or two every once in a while. Who will be next. Get the check books out...
No bashing, I think many of us are perplexed that parents are so willing to have their child have PDA on her chest that they will pay top money to play half a game on their B and C teams. I can't figure out that mentality.
Ok I'm curious now. How much are the yearly dues at PDA? And I'm assuming A, B, C and D pay it?
match Fit ECNL is 2,800 for training plus coaching fees and tournament fees everytime they go to a tournament. Add travel fair, hotel, food, gas, etc. You are in problaby 10,000 dollars!!! Not worthy when you child can play for a high level town team which can get into high level tournaments
Not a MF or PDA parent but, That is a lot of $$. Do you see a budget at the beginning of the year? Our ECNL team costs are about 2300.00. That includes training, Ecnl intra and inter conference events, and 2 non ECNL tournaments. I would think that you would want to see some sort of budget. If your entire fee goes to training, that is a lot of cash. Our team is currently training more than 2 x per week in the next month to get ready for spring season. so I can't compare your training costs with ours. Yes travel is extra, but really, what high level team is not traveling a lot? We really only have one true state that is an overnight trip for league play. My point is, don't be ripped off. Ask where the $$ goes. most likely no one ever will though, as the squeaky wheel gets the boot, and may risk their kids spot. That's ok, if you are on the top team, but why put up with that BS if not ?
Sounds like youre really happy with your high level town team that's awesome. You don't have to pay for coaches or gym time or for tournaments or for travel sign me up. Which high level town team are you and when are tryouts?
12:44 how many players on your team? Just trying to see what total for the year would be - team wise.ThanksDo you play for Ny team or Pa team? Do you know what those other ecnl state teams pay?I am wondering where your team sits vs others.
Our ECNL dues are $2140 per year and that includes all the training (all turf fields), all ECNL events, plus 5 non ECNL tournaments. We practice / scrimmage 3 to 4 times a week weather permitting. I always thought and still do that my daughter is getting a bargain for what we pay. We have a very dedicated coach that I'm sure puts a lot of his own personal time into this. Way more than what is in the "fine print" of the club agreement. All travel expenses - hotel, food, car rental, airfare etc are extra.
@1253 you are getting a great deal! You are obviously NOT PDA!
From MD - Bethesda.
924am Add hotel, car, food, rental, airfare, indoor (if you do indoor) and you have an additional 500-800 bill.
Did the rest of the acceptance list for u14G come out for Jefferson Cup?
Full list is supposed to come out tomorrow (21st).
All these complaints of costs and kids displacing other kids cracks me up. I know NJ is considered kind off a tough area but do these clubs really hold a gun to your head to play for them? Does PDA have the Sopranos running tryouts and the billing office? For Pete's sake, find a club where you trust the coach and the club philosophy, where you don't need a second mortgage to afford the dues, and where they've offered your kid a spot on the team. Can't be too hard. ABGC kids play for free and their parents are so sure ECNL is the only way, they're moving to FC VA to pay and play ECNL. Displacing a whole team of girls and bailing on the free ride for what? Some sort of fleeting chance at NCAA $. Hate to burst your bubble but if your kid is not getting 80 minutes a game on a well coached (ABGC coach is not in this category), successful team in ANY league, then college money is not in your future. Let your kid play to love the game, not so you can drive around with a $10,000 magnet on the back of your car.
So I still haven't seen anyone post the dues for PDA, is the number too big to be posted?
Why so much talk about this ABGC team they where in 2nd bracket of Bethesda and could not even win that .Well they did get beat by a ECNL team which there were 4 of the top players who left ABGC at the end of Spring 2013 since then I don't think they have won a tournament so looks like to me Top players leave non-ECNL team no matter how good they are to play ECNL . My daughter players for a local club in the VA area so ECNL is very interesting to play next year IF my daughter wants to play at the next level and also if she able to make a ECNL roster .
ABGC is good they won state cup in VA. Their are 3 good teams in Va. McLean, Chantilly Elite and ABGC. If ABGC loses its top team to FC Virginia than add FC Virginia to the top 3 and drop ABGC.
It is hard to post PDAS tuition since many girls are cut special deals and discounts. Ask the parents of the benchwarmers, they are paying full price.
I congratulate PDA on their success. They have a lot of girls willing to play and support the club. I was just wondering if their pricing was comparable to other ECNL clubs in region 1. If they are charging substantially higher prices and still fielding 4 teams plus expanding, well what can you say but well done.
Jan. 19, 4:43. We play in PA. We have a roster of 18. Coach will not take more than that, except maybe in the event of a long term injury. He does not believe in rostering girls that will not see the field or much of it.Now, about travel gas and hotels, uh, what high level team does not have those costs? Every single one of you parents that has a child playing on a high level team, has those costs. You may participate in 4 or 5 tournaments. We will do 2 non ecnl and then the ecnl events, which, will be about the same. So, after club fees, all of our travel costs are pretty comparable, if we are comparing apples to apples. You do not try out for a high level team and not factor in the additional costs of travel, that is part of the package and a choice that is made individually. If you do not like the travel costs, you do not play at this level. Problem solved.
The pda parents cant post the costs because they are never sure season to season if they are still pda parents. :p
Jeff Cup brackets out.
Yes. No fc penn, stallions, Nr , abgc , in championship bracket. Why?Fc copa and Smithtown are!!

Why would ABGC be in Top Bracket ? They have not won anything since last year . There coach is very good at the younger ages he has won multiple State titles with many different clubs but as in the past he hits a wall at U14 and older age groups . I am shocked that McLean ECNL is the Top Bracket but we shall see what happens . Good Luck to All teams in Jeff Cup .
PDA lost to ABGC last year at Jeff Cup. O'Reilly players back with own team. How do Gunners rate top flight. How do Strkers not. Flight director on crack. Trade Strikers and ABGC for Gunners and McLean. Then you have a top flight.
ABGC won their own tournament in December. Should have won Bethesda but were robbed of first bracket placement because of scared Bethesda team. They definitely rate top flight. Next year as FC Virginia they will dominate ECNL.
Why would you switch them ?
Breaking News ABGC did not win there tournament they only made it our of pool play then cancelled for weather . BTW if they where so good why didn't they win the 2nd tier at Bethesda . Make me laugh Bethesda scared of them . They should not be mad that there best players left and they can't win any tournaments any more . At best they are the 3rd best team in VA now .Behind McLean ECNL and Chantilly
Looks like ABGC didn't get top bracket at Jefferson Cup. To the poster above, is everyone in Virginia scared of your team. Seems like no one wants to put Premiere in the top bracket. BTW did you guy win Bethesda?
