It has been really quiet
yes it is quiet. It is the off season. What I wonder is if there is any player movement starting to happen ahead of birth year teams coming in to play? Have clubs come out yet and officially said what they are doing? strict birth year teams or allowing teams to stay together and play to the oldest birth year? We are waiting to hear from our club. The lack of decision is weighing on everyone whether they have the older or younger girls on the team
Some people will panic & leave midseason then to only realize they may have to move again because the team they went to will look different in the Fall. There will be a lot of movement which will hurt a lot of teams & some will benefit. Should be interesting mixing crazy parents with coaches who don't have a clue.
8:28 you are right. That is what will make this tryout season so hard to judge. No one will really know what any team will look like for next year. For the 03's currently playing u12, they will be thrust into tougher competition playing with the older 03's who have been playing u13 already and are accustomed to the higher level of play. For the 04's playing u12 and especially for those playing 11v11, for many it will be a step back to play 04 because they will now be combined with the u11 04's, and none of them have played 11v11, not to mention the level of u11 play is not as good as the level of u12 play. The way I see it, the older girls on their current teams (who will become the younger girls on their birth year teams) get the much better end of things because they will get the much better challenge- who cares if they are no longer the strongeest player on the team, now they get to play against even better girls. The younger girls on the teams do not get this benefit from the birth year change.
Our club is going birth year... They have already had a couple u12 2003's attend the u13 practices to get a feel for things. The highest level teams will be birth year with the exception of 1 or 2 standout players may be allowed to play up.
810-what club is your daughter with and what was the makeup of 03s/04s?
What are the big elite teams doing like pda and matchfit. As par age groups and years
I have kids in 2 clubs. I have been told to expect final details around the first of the year. Both have confirmed that they will be fielding teams next year based on the calendar year and not keeping teams together.
We were told edp will not allow playing up so we are breaking the team up into 2 and recruiting players from local town teams that can afford us to fill the gaps.
They must feel so honored to be recruited like that. "Hey you, with the fat wallet, would your player like to join our team?"
Surprised to hear that as US Club requires it's clubs to allow players to play up. EDP is made up of clubs. My older daughters team split is 33/63 split 03/04. Younger ones team has similar split which is surprising. As with many, I have one kid who will benefit at first and one who will not. Hardest thing for the older one is having to leave most of her teammates and probably the coach as well. It is what is, you have to make the best of it.
Why wouldn't edp allow playing up? They have never not allowed it before. In fact they allow whole teams to play up right now- PDA Lyon comes to mind. where did you get that information?
I agree that sounds like BS on EDP. All the PDA teams at U11 played up as well.
It does make sense as U.S. Soccer is keeping kids age appropriate in ODP and appears to follow the U.S. Soccer mandates that EDP is so eager to follow and for US soccer to follow players. However, the U.S. Mandate does seem to discuss that playing up is allowed which contradicts some of their ideas on why the age change occurrence is happening in the first place. Everything appears to be rumors and speculation at this point anyways. Changes are coming but I doubt anyone truly knows what any specific league is doing yet.
You're right that decisions haven't been made yet (publicly anyway) but it would go against common sense if players weren't allowed to play up. Teams could be forced to fold as a result if they cannot attract enough new players. Smaller clubs will be more impacted by a rule saying no one can play up. Are there currently any leagues in this country that don't allow playing up at all? I cannot imagine how such a rule would make sense
The birth-year registration initiative will not cause the dissolution of age-group based teams that already play together, but will rather give players the opportunity to ‘play up’ with older age-groups. That is off EDP website so people saying you can't play up are wrong
A lot is gonna change all we can do is adapt to the situation kids will get to play with different kids now. Sucks for teams that have been together but the kids will move past it and keep playing soccer. Will be a major shift in team at the top cause of this change. Lyon won't be the best team in NJ anymore since they have mostly 03..room for a new top dog.
PDA will very likely have the best teams in the state at both 2003/2004 (U14/U13). I'd love to hear which team will all of the sudden have all these 2004 superstars.
Voorhees is almost all '04s
voorhees has strong 03s that will hurt them to loose them. Depends what they do. Try to pick up 04s and play u-13 or try to pick up 03s and play u-14. Can't see many 03s wanting to play with 04 and 05 kids. Voorhees will not compete playing up. But I feel for them that team has been together long till age rule is gonna kill that team.
Voorhees has a few 03s and they will have trouble getting kids to fill roster. This is the year the break off and join a club with core group of girls.
Look to see try out dates for clubs notice the barons have it listed under birth year now. Did they make any announcement in the club what they r doing yet.. That is a ? For baron parents on the blog
barons haven't announced yet.

Meghan do you train 40 year old men.I am a overweight soccer dad who would love to train with you.I promise I will put down the cheese fries.
At 7:26: you must have misread the advertisement. It says Summer Development soccer not Developmentally disabled soccer......
Speaking of summer, what's everybody doing for winter training? Indoor league, futsol, speed/agility, or just enjoying time off?
For Winter training we are training 1 day per week and playing in 7v7 indoor league 1 day per week beginning in January. Had December off to recharge. -- Town-based travel team ... Players need some time off to recharge the interest, but need to keep building their skills so they don't take a step backwards in their development.
Starting to hear talk that a lot of teams will be staying together and playing to the oldest birth year instead of breaking apart and creating new teams that are all in the same birth year. Anyone else hearing this, and any thoughts on it? I think it's great to keep girls together who have been together for 5 years. So what if they are a little less competitive.
I guess I know all the big clubs r going to birth year and all the teams will follow after they realize they can't compete with the older girls. Nobody wants to pay 1500 a year to loose just saying
If a current top u12 team is made up of mostly 03s they will not be as good against the older 03s that are now playing u13 anyway. Maybe it's about challenging the girls instead of winning at all costs.
I understand the point but after awhile loosing get old for some parents. They start ? What is going on where they are at I seen it before. Who is to say is club just lets everyone play up..
It certainly seems like a nice thought to keep a team that's been playing X number of years together and "play up" in the new birth year calendar, but sentiment aside, it all boils down to numbers. Any U12 academy/club team with a descent draw and/or multiple teams per age group can easily reshuffle players, or field new players, to reform solid and true '03 and '04 teams. It's the smaller U12 club/town teams who do not feel they can stay competitive with the younger U11 '04s that will feel pressured to play up. Either scenario, players, parents, and coaches will have to adjust. With or without birth year cut off, players will play up, rosters will change, teams will move to other clubs......after one or two seasons under this new system, everyone will be adjusted and all will be back to normal in soccerland.
My kid trains 4 days a week and will be playing futsal on Sundays. It's a lot, but I think you have to do that. The kid needs to make the decision though.

Are these prelimiary flights for EDP? The top flights are terrible. Each has a few strong teams and a few significantly weaker teams. I can see why Lyon wouldn't play u12. I assume they will be playing in the top flight of u13 having won all of their games by a landslide in the second flight in the fall.
PDA Lyon = U13 2nd division central.Who knows what is going on.
NEW JERSEY RUSH 02 GIRLS BLUE (FKA RAGE FC RENEGADES) (NJ) = girls u13 MAPS elite central????
I’m assuming those flights are still a work in progress. EDP has released preliminary divisions in past seasons only to rearrange a handful of teams prior to the start of the season. A few team placements seem a little odd to me. Also, how do you have a 9v9 2nd division with double the flight value of two 9v9 1st divisions?
its just a draft. There will be lots of movement. Already starting to see corrections.
the accepted team list for Jeff Cup is posted and it is quite an impressive list. It will be interesting to see how they flight the teams. It will be a very good test for teams from this area
All the usual suspects at Jeff Cup. Flighting will be difficult and most of the teams that see each other on a regular basis may end up going against each other again. Top flights could look a lot like EDP.
Any thoughts on odp ecnl for d1 scholarships my daughter is in a future ecnl club .
Way to early to be looking at D1 scholarships buddy....you are on ecnl team now doesn't mean you will be after try-outs. Is your daughter a 03/04..D1 is hard to make and they are to young to tell right now most girls haven't hit puberty yet..wait till they are in high school.
Is your kid on PDA or Matchfit they are only ecnl clubs in NJ..if your on PDA north ecnl I could see D1 players at that club...if your on match fit haven't seen much talent on either of there teams that could go D1 maybe D3 at best.
Now, now, parents (and coaches); this is the U12 blog. Stop trying to play-up to the level of the U14 blog. You need to develop a lesser sense of maturity before you are ready to blog like a true U14 parent.
That is ridiculous. You are likely going to spend more to play for a match fit or pda that what a scholarship is worth anyways. And the parents that have their kids on these teams are the parents that wouldn't be in dire need of a scholarship anyways. Just another class of parents that believe the hype.
Very hard to look at a U12 roster and predict college recruitment. Here is a guarantee, both MFA and PDA will have many D1 players among the kids in 2003/2004 when all is said and done. Will they be off the current rosters, hard to predict? PDA obviously has a head start as they almost always do. Plus huge changes coming in the next year, not just age and a girls DA, but the club landscape is likely to see some significant change as well.
it is pointless to be thinking about college recruitment at tis age. So much can and will change over the next few years
The barons made the announcement they are going to the birth year change next year and all there girls will be playing in there age group not playing teams up
Because the Barons have enough in there player pool to achieve a successful teams due to the age change. Same goes with PDA/Match Fit/SDFC etc. Don't you parents get at this age it's a clubs player pool the determines how successful a team will be later down the line. And many of you can stop thinking about D1 college because it's a less than 10% of girls that only end up playing college anyway. 233 D1 schools avg. of 600+ incoming freshman players out of the hundreds of thousands of girls the graduate playing in HS. Just worry about development right now.
EDP is doing a nice job refining the divisions for the spring.
Will the girl's DA be funded in any way or will the costs be very high to the player?
Nice to see PDA Lyon stop beating up on inferior U13 teams and face some real competition by going to Jeff Cup. Of course, PDA clubs were given a discount to attend so the tournament would be more competitive. Now we'll see how good or not the team really is.
Interesting observation, over the past year PDA Lyon is 2-3-2 against teams that are not from NJ. So are they receiving a discount as bait for the big cats.
You do realize you are calling 11/12 year old girls bait?
Girls DA should be free to those that make it.
What? Upper echelon is for affluent players...That is the American way of youth sports.
What is DA
Sources: U.S. Soccer set to launch girls’ Development Academy in 2017, likely relegating ECNL to second tierhttp://www.soccerwire.com/news/clubs...-tier/?loc=psw
I don't see how the men's DA has shown any results that would lead to replicating the program on the women's side.
It has produced a few professional players. But the best men's national team players seem to come from experience playing professionally abroad.Confusing thing is where are these professional female players going to get opportunities to play? Where can earn enough playing to live on?
10.33 they are the only team from jersey that can play with the big cats. The one team they played to overtime beat another nj club 7-0. Pda is one of the "big cats". So stop the jealousy now. Your club will never be one. That's the reality.

Your club will never be one. That's the reality. You are a complete asshat, they are 11 and 12. What a loser.
Why are they crating a girl DA? There are already dozens of options of where to Play. Why not just give some support to or exert some pressure for the changes they want, on the existing programs they feel have potential? Is everything out there beyond correction that want to start a completely new program? There are multiple leagues and ID programs already in existence.
@10:01Because dozens of options are all expensive. The reality is that no matter how much training an 'unathletic' kid might receive, the coaches tend to drift to the athletic kids. A slower, less athletic player would have to be exceptional at a particular skill to warrant a spot. So, in order to broaden their horizon to any underpriviliged kids that might not have the resources to play for a top club, the DA will allow them to get quality training, so long as they can get there. This will have a small impact on ECNL clubs, but nothing will really change. Kids leaving ECNL for DA will just be replaced with somebody else from a lower team with $2000+ to fork over for training.Having a DA in place instead of a results-oriented club that pursues wins to get Gotsoccer points to qualify for tournments is the right thing to do for those that are gifted enough to make it.
I agree the cost of high cost soccer is too much talent excluded from game. But why not just solve that problem with one of the existing leagues?
It's like fighting for the right to have the better "crap player development program/league". All those leagues/clubs/coaches base their "success" (wins) on athletic abilities instead of development. I never hear anyone talks about real soccer development in this blog (which is about decision making and the proper execution of that decision.. ie doing the right thing at the right time). None of those programs set up an environment for the player to learn that (Key point here... it's not about teaching them soccer but more about guide them and help them solve the problems that the game presents). The problem with the approach i just described from a parent point of view is that they don't know how to evaluate the implementation/effectiveness of such an approach by a club/coach. I hear people brag about their team playing possession soccer but i still haven't see any of those so called top teams in NJ produce real possession soccer (which requires above average decision makers all over the field). However, as parents we can quantify wins, we can quantify costs, we can quantify coaches' background so we use those things to determine the worthiness of a program or a league, when in fact those things has nothing to do with player development. just my 2 cents but it's one of those things that nobody wants to hear about because that might require educating yourself about the game to really gauge the worthiness of your program.
Kids move from ecnl to dap? If the dap is funded, why wouldn't talent from all leagues go to dap?
@12:51 Come on over to match fit or pda ecnl if you want to win and leave your ctappy little team.
Hahaha that's funny ecnl..just know your kid won't be on the encl team next year after she gets cut
Wait to see what teams are on top next season after birth year change..03s gonna have a rude awakening.
Hope the dap will not be crap.
Dap.should start at u12 if like boys side correct?
There are generally huge turnover rates from U13 to U15. Sometimes over 50%. As the disparity in size evens out, the athletic kids and/or the technical kids start to stand out.All of the sudden the fast striker at U9 that scored goal after goal can no longer just run by everyone. Chances are, that team did not bother to develop the rest of the team, as they chased wins and trophies.I agree with 12:51. True development is playing all players at different positions, regardless of the score. The problem is that PAGS, EDP, or any other league places a higher priority on winning so that they can update their website. Remember, it's a business. Asking a current league to soak up the costs and develop players for free is not economically viable, unless you are PDA and have multiple teams at each age group to draw income from.If you look at Rutgers, a majority of them are ECNL players. The ECNL does offer great exposure at the higher age brackets. But, for right now, all the emphasis should be on development. The DA will help the cream of the crop. But, all too often, there are plenty of girls that might be worthy but burn out or do not receive the necessary training to get them over the top. Sad, but all too true.
Dap starts when girls are 11. Ecnl start when they are 13. One is about id and development. One is about showcasing for college.
Why are 2003s going to have a rude awakening? Clubs know they are stepping up, and if anything are going to be given a year to transition. Plus, it's not like they are going up a full year, just a half year. Most will make the move just fine, and could be better off because they will be playing with better stronger players.
Of course Rutgers is mostly ECNL kids, they're coaches are connected to PDA so they go the lazy man's route for recruiting and offer scholarships to their own kids. Please give the whole story when speaking about ECNL.
So, the lazy man's route produced a top 10 ranked college team that went to the College Cup semis before losing to PSU, the team that won it all????????? Rutgers had the best defense in the country. Two of their four losses came against PSU in the Big 10 tournament and College Cup semis. There is something to be said for taking players that are already familiar with one another or play a style/system that is familiar to one another.
And PDA has incredible talent with players all over the country. The team that is now college sophs was sick. In many ways Rutgers is an extension of PDA, moreso than the reverse. Same coaches etc.
PDA Lyon bumped up to the top bracket for U13 EDP - full max 9,000 point value. I'm sure they are not chasing points but it will be interesting see how they do. Looking at gotsoccer, one of the teams in the bracket, Arsenal, has beaten them before but it was 2 years ago.EDP Brackets/pats values...http://home.gotsoccer.com/rankings/event.aspx?EventID=49344
The 11 V 11 North division is better, top to bottom than the 11 V 11 Central division and yet the Central is worth almost 3,000 more points...What a joke
Lyon in the U13 central. The best U13 EDP league is Central by a mile. I think you are referring to U12. But even if you are - you are way off. The national rank average for the north is like 107 wand central average rank is in the 50''s. It's not even close. Based on the team's histories, Central issue way better and deserves the higher points. That's how the gotsoccer system works...
My daughter's team has played many of the teams in the North and Central. The North is by far the better division. The Central has 2 good teams Voorhees and Real NJ, everyone else is average at best.
I think PDA Lyon should do very well. I hear they just picked up an amazing striker .
Well hello Mom of the new Lyon player lol! Tell us about your daughter and what position you'd like her to play!
Not the mom of the player , just a parent who hears things at US training
Where did striker come from..and is she a 03 or 04
The few times I've seen her at tournaments and such she's been a striker . She might be an 04 playing up but I'm not positive.
I think she is 04 too. Who really knows...Nobody on this board!!!I thinkmost people here just make stuff up like seeing her play...Where? I think she iis from out of state and may not even been playing U12 so fibs all around lol. I would bet nobody has seen her play except for some scrimmages with Galaxy months ago.I think she had a tryout with the U13 Galaxy first but since she is like 04, Lyon may have been more realistic.US training center? So? What does that mean at this age anyway? Some coach with a connection sends an email & recommends a player and the kid gets to workout for free with some college coaches - yada yada, Show me you are good & I'll buy itAs for seeing her play striker - who knows what position she plays? I mean we are like 6 weeks away from real games and I bet it's ALL speculation. The coach may never even seen her play a real game. All BS!
How is she an 04 playing up on a u12 team?
Playing up before she came to PDA.
Sounds like she is amazing, I'm surprised she didn't walk on and start with Galaxy if that good.
A 2004 player born in Aug, sept, oct, nov, or dec is playing up to u12. The cutoff right now is July 31.
I love this board! You guys are hilarious! The fascination with PDA - even when its sarcastic cracks me up.Most of the big eastern PA clubs know this player who was playing U13 and doing well. If she is playing U12 this season at PDA(this board makes up A LOT of stuff) - its just her proper age group. Was not u11 player playing up 2 years lol…
the striker is an 03. She left her team and was playing on u13 penn fusionWas this a rumor at the jersey training center? I didn't hear this at the pa training center last month
7:33 you are incorrect . She is an O4 an left PennFusion after a short time because the players were not very excepting of her . Jealousy can do that .
PF breeds a nasty environment. No shock here.
"Who cares about this player! There are lots of good ones!"On Lyon she'll just be one of the girls, which is a good thing. Deep team of friendly , like minded, competitive girls. I bet she will learn a lot, get better and if she likes a competition, she is on the right squad now.
It seems the best way to make a PDA team seems to be play up an age group, do well there, then come down an age group. I have heard this at several age groups there. If you wanted in - would it be a better idea to play up, then try out there right aged?Isn't it just good enough to be the best player on your competitive say U12 team them come to tryouts? Is that a pipe dream?
The best way to make PDA Lyon would probably be to be really good at soccer - which of course everyone's daughter here has a great shot!
You had best have sizeable budget for kid soccer to go with your talent if you want to join a high level club.
Bragging that the biggest academy in NJ has the best team, that's sad. Lyon is good, but we see how they do against South Shore.
Who is bragging about Lyons, I don't see it recently? Folks, everything changes in a few short months. Our 03 girls will be challenged to have to compete with a very good older team, stacked with 03 players/starters and I believe the 04 girls will stay at 04, except possible one very strong girl on Lyon. I also think many 03 will be put on second team in transition. The club will be very strict in keeping girls age appropriate, because everyone will believe their kid should play up with the girls they have been playing with for years. It's going to get ugly, you will see a lot more of this whining(frustration) when the BYC happens. It will be about politics, other parents agendas, coaches and mean girls when things don't go our way. I have an 04 and will be happy to stay at new age change.
I doubt you have an 04 at PDA as you know posting here can get you removed from the club. I love when the fake PDA posters come on here starting trouble. It happens on every age board."I have an 04" - your daughter probably plays for Metuchen or Sparta!
If PDA has that rule, kudos. Wish more clubs would do just that.
Dealing with "biased" now. Talent comes after ass kissing. Frustrating! Makes me sick to watch the same parents up in the coaches face every practice and boy do their kids play!
Hey a cup of coffee goes a long way
@ 10:42 It works fine, for a while. The more mediocre play the lion's share while the stars are put in as little as possible to secure the win. Guess who takes credit for success? But, then those stars start leaving and the whole thing falls apart. Then, they have the craziest explanations as to why things aren't working anymore and/or the most delusional spin on why their decline demonstrates they are still no. 1.It's soccer. Vote with your feet.
You are a dead give away 108. You should stop, now you are fighting with your new team parents. what a way to start off on a new team, just like you left the last one. Good luck PDA.
10 42 post? I don't see it.
1:20 you sound like a jealous parent who's trying to stir up trouble on a team where there is none. It's really pathetic ! Are you that worried about your daughters spot on the team ?!?!?
Doesn't sound like the poster is on your team and I would assume probably happy not to be, just like the people from PF.
Just keep telling yourself that lol
What tournaments are the top teams headed to this spring?
@10:42 shoulda been 10:54 sorry.Suffice it to say, whenever there is an unholy alliance between the mediocre players' families (who have delusions of adequacy) and the poor players' families (trying to avoid the bench or being cut) there's trouble for the top players. Nobody will tell you this flat out. As you can see above, they stoop so low as to undermine another kid. Really the only thing they can do besides acceptance, which isn't too palatable to them. Comical when it's the people from these very teams that have a history of drama and fireworks driving kids who are better than theirs off time and time again (and again and again). Yet, they spin it as if those leaving and have learned to be aware of and avoid the same situation have some kind of "pattern". Maybe count how many times people leave you instead?
4 of the top 5 U12G teams in NJ by gotsoccer will be at The Jefferson Cup,
Voorhees isn't top 5 anymore losing kids left and right something isn't working over there. They are gonna have a long year I think it will be the last run for them and the team will split up
She will get over powered at the U14 level, physical game is that much of a difference U14 from U12.
"I heard Mike O is looking at this new player from Fusion to guest at Jeff Cup with his u14 team."Hilarious stuff!
"She will get over powered at the U14 level, physical game is that much of a difference U14 from U12."And the most gullible award goes to...
Funny how PDA folks say they aren't supposed to be on here but they are SO fast to respond to any comment about them. That's what's so hilarious.
you sound like a moron. That could have been anyone saying that to rip on another poster. it was a joke and you fell for it too.
Anyone can act like anyone on an anonymous blog. Lots love to stir the pot. Pathetic? Yes.
U14 will be 2003s in the fall. Little more physical, but not a huge difference from where the kids are now. Especially if they have been playing at a high level. Growth is an issue as we are getting to the age where some kids have started the huge growth spurt and others have not. You can be the toughest 80 pounder out there, but you are still going to struggle against kids 20-30 pounds heavier.
All I ask is that whatever 2004 team ends up being the PDA A-team please don't come on here and tell us how great they are. No one cares. Thank you
I get it. I hate the patriots too and loved seeing them lose. I hate winning organizations. I won't ever consider PDA.
Biggest academy in NJ with the most "influence", you should have the best teams. Patriots are cheaters, nice role models...
Love it...equating a kid soccer team to a a professional NFL team. too funny. What network is carrying the games?
Would you ask a u18 girl who just won national championship and going to play d1 and maybe beyond - what kid soccer team they play for?I think they would look at you like the a$$ that you are.
Mallory Pugh will leave her kid soccer team soon and can play college, the natl team or pro. What kid soccer team does she play for this year?
This is a U12 girl's soccer blog. IF you compare your kid to a professional NFL player you should expect to be mocked a bit.
You do realize that the players pay PDA to play and Patriots pay their players to play.
not mine. She doesn't pay a dime. keep mocking me.
I did not realize she was receiving free u12 soccer. Who needs a pro contract when u can get that. My bad.
you made the comment, I just told you we don't pay. What else?
So you receive financial aide then.
Can someone show me where the nfl player comparison is? What am I missing?
Someone just compared people hating on their superstar U12 team to people hating on the superstar Patriots as they are both such success stories. Someone made fun of the post and then it just got dull and over. Move on.
Not much discussion here about Jeff Cup flights. Predictions?
Well PDA Lyon and Voorhees are in the top flight of 12 teams form all around.SDFC in the 2nd flight of 8 top teams from all around too.7 or 8 other NJ teams in the next 10 flights! Like 12 flights altogether at U12z
Listen I'm sure all the teams in the top bracket are there for a reason. I'm sure most games will be competive. No one really knows anything about these teams outside of Jersey. Predictions will be useless. So let's all wait to see how things play out. Not to mention they are 12.
looks like 4 brackets of 3 in flight one. Play two games and the winner of bracket a v d and winner of b vs c play each other and winners play in final…May be a similar thing for 3rd & 4th place ...
4:43 what does kids age have to do with making predictions?im expecting Lyon to advance but charlotte could give them a good game. Semis against waza could be tough too. Voorhees won't make it out of their bracket (again). SDFC should be in top flight but committee couldn't let too many NJ teams in. Real or SAC from the third flight. laughable middletown is in fourth flight. town teams will continue to get no respect as kids get older. AFFC or BRYC will beat Richmond in 8v8
I didn't realize you have seen all these teams play in the last 6 months. My bad.
Many of these teams were at Bethesda. Its not difficult to go on Got Soccer and see how teams are trending.
Tryout season is upon us. Where is everyone looking- for 03 and or 04? with the DA coming, the pull of ECNL may have diminished already
Depends on whether or not you expect a club to be a girls DA.If you do, then it might make sense to try out at that club, so that they can get a year long evaluation.
I don't care about da or ecnl. I think we'd be better off without them at this age or at all. Then there wouldn't be a need for everyone to flock to one or two clubs, which leads to inflated rosters, hours of commuting, less team cohesion and a lot more imho. I'd rather many good teams and a lot of competition. I prefer the old way of doing things where odp was for the elite players and was a supplement to their regular club play not a replacement.
Agree. This is turning something fun into a beast.
Don't see the need to jump clubs if your daughter is happy with current club. Hard to tell what next year will look like with almost all team rosters shuffled. That only works for those who are happy though. Personally looking forward to the shuffle!
My kid is a 04 we are in the south I was thinking SJEB/rush/PDA south that is about all the options I have. If I was closer to the north I would put her on PDA north but I won't make that drive where I live
We are more north but I don't think I want to deal with PDA from the things posted on here. Is there team comraderie at PDA or is it an each man for himself type of place? I want great training and teammates but I also want my daughter to feel like she is part of a team with great friends on the team.
Don't let an anonymous forum have too much importance in decision making process. Do your homework and make a choice. But I think it is obvious that a big bucks, high level league will be a hyper-competitive environment. Whether you find that beneficial or detrimental depends.
You can get that at PDA, 8:16.But, as 9:03 mentions, don't listen to us.Do your homework. Get permission to attend a practice and to be evaluated. If there is talent there, they will let you know. Some kids need more time. At the end of the day, your kid needs to be happy.
8:02 I'm in the south also with an 04 at the u11 side right now. Those teams you mentioned are not the only options we have. I saw a team called Washington United at a tournament in the fall and they seemed pretty decent. Hoping to catch their try out in Gloucester somewhere. Also gps is from ocean city or something. Looking into that also.
Attending a practice is a better option for a team and player to size up one another than a tryout situation.
There are higher ranking teams in the south than Washington United and NJRush. Looking at the edp 1st div central are quality teams to check out for the bc for '04.
Just because you are higher ranked, what maybe 7-10 more places, that you are way better? No that's just people chasing points for got soccer.
I notice that when any team that is brought up that isn't a pda, Rush, etcetera... They seem to get redirected immediately like this is a recruitment forum to get parents to break the bank for their kid to play soccer. Why not spend more time on the 90% of the girls instead of the 10%. There are tons of solid teams out there worthy of discussion that is not some bs academy. Just saying. There is so much great soccer in this state and this blog turns their back to them.
This blog is for the parents form teams that win tons of youth soccer to justify why that is important and for the parents form teams that win less games to justify why that is important.
"My kid is a 04 we are in the south I was thinking SJEB/rush/PDA south that is about all the options I have. If I was closer to the north I would put her on PDA north but I won't make that drive where I live"Yeah you would just put her on PDA North! That's what 100 or so Dads said last year at tryouts but only one or two got "put" there! Also many people say you should come to train with the team first. It could work against you. PDA A LOT of girls who come to train with a certain team but I have never seen one be put on a team from there. Most if not all of the new players at PDA come through the try-outs...
you can't just 'train with a team' because they are all changing for next year. The only reason to really train with a team before tryouts is to see if you like the coach and even that is not definite because how do you know the coach of the u12 team will be the coach for your daughters age next year. I think there will be a lot of confusion and misinformation this tryout season
You realize the trial practice with the team is not just for the team to evaluate the player. It is also for the player to evaluate the team. Players check out clubs and teams and say "thanks but no thanks" for many reasons. It is a 2 way street.
Exactly! The only reason I would take my daughter to train with a team is to see if she liked the team. I would never take her to a training session as a tryout.
56 new teams added to Academy Status Country wide. Good news for the girls side when they start up Girls Academy next year. Right now only PDA, Match FIT, and NJCSA have Academy status in NJ on the boys side.
Only at U12 age I believe.
And the DA has 2004 playing U12 2016-2017 while the rest of the more slob 2004s will be playing U13. Special accommodations for special players - meaning talented young boys.
meant poor slobs.
IF that is what is best for the boys, why not the girls?
04 is 04. regardless what title you give the age group. U12 or U13 - it is still 04.Man people just like to complain a lot about nothing.
3:49Why is it that every time someone is ahead of you in GotSoccer, it's suddenly "point chasing"? Of the top 10 teams in the rankings, who doesn't belong there? I think if you took the time to look at each team's history including the leagues they play in and the tournaments they go to, they aren't chasing points but rather doing well in the things they play in. So when teams like Washington Township can do better than finishing fourth in a 2nd division EDP league and actually place or win at top tournaments (not the Morris United Fall Kickoff), then they can start calling other teams "point chasers".
In 2016-2017. 04 DA boys will play 9v9. The 04 girls will play 11v11. According to us soccer, the 9v9 is best for development for the 2004 academy boys but not for the rest of the kids? I can lodge a complaint about that since I have girl players and try to have their backs. But yes, the world will continue to turn. It is not a huge complaint but it is a legitimate one and speaks to the us soccer federation's lack of attention or concern with the girl's side.
2:28 just for your information it wasn't a Washington Twp parent who said point chaser so maybe you should slow your roll homie. Because I'm the one who made the comment and my kid plays elsewhere so I'm starting to think you shouldn't give parents/team a bad name and assume they said something wrong. And I do see how teams placed. Just because they placed 4th doesn't mean squat. But you go ahead and keep putting other teams down. Obviously yours didn't do to well or you wouldn't be so bitter.

3:33, not true. Age is same for boys and girls and in the 2017 season which starts in August, the 2004/U13 group will be 11v11. The 2005/U12 group will be 9v9.
4:35 I got ya "homie". Regardless of where your daughter plays, your point chasing comment is just as stupid and clueless.
5 05That is incorrect. The US soccer dap 2004 players will be playing 9v9 for 2016 to 2017 season. This issue has been discussed on other forums and on soccerwire.
linkhttp://www.soccerwire.com/news/clubs/youth-boys/dure-age-group-issue-puts-development-academy-in-a-time-warp/sample commentThere are plenty of competitive leagues with high quality players with real potential. Those kids born in 2004 will be forced to miss a year of small sided play and development and be put at a disadvantage compared to the Academy players. It is wrong and should be remedied so as to be consistent with all competitive players and leagues.

That is actually correct and kind of Ironic. The boys dev academy has decided to implement the new standard fall of 2017 and will play under the old rules this coming fall. So for them 2004=U12 and 9v9 for the 16/17 season.
R E L A X Penn Fusion - We get it, you're having an ID event.
Academy players are taken care of but not girls or non academy players.
Is there truth to the rumor that FC Copa is looking to take over south jersey?
