Oh there is truth to this. Watched it first hand.
You win people - I'm going on a Youth Soccer Talk strike for a few months, I know don't let the door hit me on the way out. You guys keep enjoying your south jersey thing. Hopefully every body else that is annoyed with this will do the same thing and you guys or girls can have the entire forum which you kind of hijacked anyway to yourself maybe get bored with the same idiot posts and then go away. I know the same can be said about my posts with the list of teams, results and my opinions on soccer related stuff.Later
You realize it is the slow season and the time will fill with something. No big tournaments to look forward to and all the league stuff is wrapped up. Post whatever you want, it can even be soccer related if you wish :).
How did the new NJSA team do today?
Like 756 I am all soccerred out too. I need few weeks to recover then another few weeks after that to get mentally ready for fall 2014. Have great summer everone will catch up in September. Over & out!
Good luck to Storm at Regionals next week! From one of your rivals who is rooting for you Jersey girls.
Ditto 1206, go get 'em Storm!
Really folks. Storm will walk all over those teams. Those teams have no history and aren't highly ranked in their specific states. Do not see Storm losing this tournament. Will probably be their first one out of state but not against the big dogs!
NY State champs!Although I think the New York Cup champs would give them a better game, yes, I know you agree.
When will e. meadow vs world class play to decide final team in final four of EDP Champions League Playoffs next month?World calls goes thru with win or tie, e. meadow goes thru with win.
They are going to let you know tomorrow, stay tuned...
Not that many people care since they have been in 8 v 8 all year but STA playing 11 v 11 beat JPS 1-0 and STA goalie did not touch the ball much at all. All STA but just a 1-0 margin with a 1/2 dozen shots on goal...
Did you have your coco puffs this morning?
STA team has improved since last year. MatchFit Tournament results showed that.
Second Tier Academy on here talking about beating a second tier JPS team. Talking about grasping straws. Holy cow!!
Must be a very slow, silent weekend for girls U12 soccer in NJ with the main topic being STA.
9:26 & 10:54So are we only allowed to talk about the top 5 teams? Come on people grow up!!
Agree 1:26, we shouldn't talk about just the top 5 teams, I say top 25 & STA still wouldn't be in the discussion! Go USA!
SJEB better pick up a few more Rage players if they hope to win any games this year. Rough weekend
It shouldn't matter what ranking a team is. If someone wants to come here on an open board and post something about a team I don't think they should be slammed about it.
People on here get real defensive when any team but their own gets mentioned.
I guess those PA teams must be strong - YMS was never mentioned as a top team by PA guys just started playing 11v11 and it looks like they made easy work of NYSC - the NY Champs, oh boy. Was it as bad as 4-0 would say or was it a closer game.NEW YORK SC G01 0 YMS BANSHEES 4
YMS. Very good program.
I am not sure why Rage girls are expected to make a difference on a team. From what I remember of this team they had big athletic girls. That seem to do a lot of long balls. Not much soccer technique.Or completed passes.More of a team using there size to get a win.I am sure this is the reason why most parents decided to leave the team.I don't see any Rage player making a impact on any team until they are properly trained.Good luck to all of the girls wherever it is they end up.
Most of the Rage girls were small , only 1 or 2 "big" girls. I don't know what you were looking at. If the girls that left went to the same team , they "would make a difference". You make it sound like Rage girls knocked all the other teams down, they didn't they either stole the ball or had the skill to get past them. That is why they were successful. I guess your team wasn't able to win against them and that's why you are bitter. They did not win by long balls, they did not play kick and run. Yes a lot of the goals were free kicks from a distance, if that's what you are calling long balls. These girls worked very well together, and that's why they were good.
4:03 Are you sure you were looking at Rage? Maybe you are confusing them with NJX?

6/20 at 2:43pm - Why so much venom for the Wildcats coach? No - it's not him. My daughter is one of the five Force players who joined Wildcats after watching the Force team she was a starter and stalwart on blow up. Don't care about the reason that happened- we moved forward. My daughter was disappointed, since she loved playing with her old team, but seven more happy now with her new squad. My understanding is that the Force kids who went to NJSA feel the same way. That's what kids soccer should be about - kids playing, learning and growing in an environment they are comfortable in.As for the coach, he is an old school class act. Most of the kids at this level dream about playing for college teams, so he trains them in a manner consistent with that they can expect as they move forward. It's tough, intense, hard nosed, so it's not for everyone. He is honest, and said that from day one to parents and kids. Some kids don't like it, and move on. Some parents think it's too tough for their kids, and force them to move on. I say, God bless, good luck, and enjoy your new team. Stop wasting time and energy disparaging him or the team because your kid didn't like the way he trained them and focus on how well they are doing in their new environment.....there have to be some positives to dwell on with your new team. If not, might be the wrong sport for your child.
Amen, 4:11very well said - a parent of a Rage opponent
College? Your child is 12, is that what coach blogger is telling people? Very interesting.

EDP Dropped the ball with their Champions Cup.They should have invited their Fall and Spring D1 Champions to their Champions Cup to crown a EDP 2013/2014 CHAMPION!!!
PS. This is no knock on NJ Wildcats as the Wildcard to the Champions Event. To me a Champions league - should be just that a Champions League. The way the UEFA Champions League used to be before money and TV got in the way.
"NEW YORK SC G01 0 YMS BANSHEES 4"Any comments from an NYSC parent on this game? NYSC usually has a few supporters on this board.I've seen YMS play a couple times. I'm not a big fan of their coach, who is the stereotypical "yell at the refs all game" type. Reminds me of the World Class coach. But the team the YMS coach has built over the past three years or so is a solid one. I do not recall them having one player who dominated, they were just a solid team with a good mix of skill and size. Played well together. From an ECNL perspective, I'm sure FC Bucks is dying to get some of the players from YMS (Hulmeville, too) onto their team.
Like I mentioned before, an inconsistent season, but personally I think it was the uniform color...
The STA team that played in the Match Fit tourney didn't even play this past weekend.
Wasnt the fall EDP a SHELL of a league compared to the spring?
True, maybe IGFA as fall winners should be in champions league as well?
Guys, shell of itself or not. This season is 2013/2014 until 7/31/2014.IGFA didn't have any control on the teams that entered they played their games and won, maybe they shouldn't be in this event but if it a champions league well then they should. PS. Who did Calvert beat to be in this event? If we were going to pick who should play and who shouldn't.EDP had a Fall and a Spring League were they different yes.Say what you will but it would be nice to have FC Virginia in this thing. It would be a nice flight with these 4 teams.WC CharltonPDA StormCalvertFC VirginiaThen you can sprinkle in PDA AJAX and IGFA
Must be tough having to hang your season on what place you are coming in in a DEVELOPMENTAL league..... You people are nuts. Who cares! Concentrate on the future state cup's and tourney's and just plain player better soccer..... You can play better soccer and lose some games. It is OK.

NPL also developmental as is the USSF DA clubsThe NPL was created to elevate and change the competitive youth soccer landscape by extending developmental principles espoused by U.S. Soccer into more age groups and clubs
Very nice parent of Force. Really cannot believe what happened at NJ Force, people were really talking about the U12/13 teams, coach was a mover and shaker along with that group to play so well over last year, of course the players made it happen in the end. And yes the NJSA coach is very good - we had/have kids involved with him and his brother, good peeps, they care about soccer.
Wait that also makes ECNL a developmental league if they want to follow the USSF DA model, doesn't it? So why do any of these leagues matter?Oh yeah, because my kid plays in them, how stupid of me for taking an interest in what she does.I should just bring her to practice drop her off - go hang with the boys for an hour or so, go back and pick her ask her if she had fun and move onto another topic. AND of course on game day drive her to the game, sit on my chair next to my wife - talk about the other parents on my kid's team clap a few times and say unlucky every time some one make a booboo.Ask my kid at the end of the game hey did you have fun, don't worry about the game i read on the internet that it doesn't matter if you win or lose at your age.
"Must be tough having to hang your season on what place you are coming in in a DEVELOPMENTAL league..... You people are nuts. Who cares! 2:27 you can add my daughters team didn't make Champions League Final four so "it doesn't matter""It doesn't matter" -Rosanna Rosanna Danna
Non of the league play truly matters in the big picture even the better top leagues. That is where you guys miss it but that is why you are not with one of the clubs that will move to the next level. Enjoy your U12 league success. So short sighted as usual..... Another parent who never went through the high level development process living through their kid. Honestly feel bad for your child...
So then what should we discuss, 4:26? It's is a U12 board after all. And it's also very difficult to discuss soccer without discussing results. And where do the results come from? Tournaments and league play.I'm just missing what your gripe is.-PA Guy
The actual wins and losses should not and do not matter, but as far as attracting outside players and invitations/placement in tournaments the league standings do affect the team.
Come on. You all know geographically who can play for your team. All the girls are somewhat known at the higher level. You think because your club does well in a local league that one of these top girls will make her mind up because of that?? Win the State cup and or a top level tourney and show great training. That may persuade but there are only a handful of legit girls that can be added to your team at this point and you and your coaches know all of them. The girls need to be making mistakes to get better and they are not going to do it in state cup and top tourneys so when?
Not true. Girls could be playing up or even on boys teams at this age and you would have never seen them play. What are you scouting every U12 girls games with charts and stats...creepy.
You know the kids. Stop.... And if you don't, your team is not playing at the highest level.....
1148"It would be a nice flight with..........."Its a nice flight NOW. Stop crying
Did the Rage team that lost half there players, play this past weekend? I thought I saw a team playing in a lower u12 bracket and wondering if it was there summer select team?
4:39 you have been beating a dead horse all spring. Your daughters team is out of this competition for this year, live with it and let others whose daughters teams qualified enjoy the playoffs.they have earned it on the field.these are not "local" leagues, these EDP Divisions are no different than colonial leagues in region 1, edp north, south and central are 3 divisions within region 1 to save travel and then combine the top 4 teams in EDP Champions League Playoffs at a central location to see who is the best EDP team overall in region 1 at U12.No different than state cup winners and wildcards going to regionals. Just another way to crown a Region 1 champion.next year these teams will have a shot to go to Nationals in the same manner. This is just a preview.Try and enjoy the competition with your daughter. You can't always come out on top.Your posts have become so redundant it's ridiculous. We get it you don't like league play and you like tournaments better. Some may agree with you but many others obviously do not.Yours is not the only opinion that matters. Stop insisting everyone else accept your opinion that league play doesn't matter.Your opinion is just one of many.Respect others right to disagree without calling them names and insulting them.No one anointed you as the chosen one.
Yes 5:58,you are right about the guy 4:39, 1:36,2:27,4:26 all the same agenda. We are all 'NUTS', he "feels sorry for our kids", league play is only for "development",Only tournaments and sc count, we are "short sighted", You think because you do well in "a local league".I think we can guess which teams these protests are from."I think thou dost protest too much".
5:29 - there were lots of rage teams at rider cup this weekend but not u12s
5:22There can be very talented girls playing in less talented teams that are ready to make the jump. You are being very small minded - I hope you aren't a coach
Is the Rider Cup not giving any GotSoccer points to their flights? That would suck for a team like Yardley, who played great, they deserve a few thousand points for their wins, no??
4-39 is an idiot. League games are much better barometer of a team's overall strength. Tourneys play multiple games in a short time frame and many times with guests. Dude, you are clueless if you think you have it all figured out at 12. You can't be serious?
6:54 spot on about 4:39.the guy consistently resorts to name calling and abusive language to try and intimidate anyone who disagrees with his endless redundant rants.Previous posts also correct in stating that 1 game per week format of league play and even 1 game per day format like EDP champions league better allows teams to be at their best for each game mentally and physically much more so than multiple games in 1 day format of tournaments. How can 4 or 5 games in a 36 hour period(especially in hot weather)as in tournament play be a superior indication of the best team over having a week to prepare a game plan and tactics and train to be at your physical peak for an important league match? And how can a 7-10 game league season played out over 2 months not be more indicative of the rank of the teams involved than a 4 or 5 game sampling over a weekend where every team does not play against each other and the draw is often decisive. Not an argument that any sensible, experienced soccer professional would make. Why do you think the college showcase tournament now only allow teams to play 1 game per day?
agree with 6:23.At U12 three are still a number of local club teams who have 1 or 2 girls who could make the jump to Academy level and will.many parents traditionally don't want to or can't afford to spend the $$ and do all the travelling until U14 when they start to get the looks.
1:40 ummmm , hate to ruin your little happy party for NJSA coach but the post about the coach earlier was about wildcat coach, not NJSA coaches! Oops!!
Some rage freedom players played under u13 rage liberty this past weekend along with guest players, so you did see some familiar faces.
Rage liberty rages u13 team also lost many players this past season.I believe parents are looking for better opportunities for their daughters.Too many kids leaving that club.Parents seeing the light.Daddy coaches do not being your daughters to the next level.
7:09 Remember to always "kick it through the hole!"
Guys, have your girls play other sports as well. She will be a better soccer player and happier in the end.
In depth analysis of Soccer tournaments can be an enriching experience. Given that its influence pervades our society, it is yet to receive proper recognition for laying the foundations of democracy. It is an unfortunate consequence of our civilizations history that Soccer tournaments is rarely given rational consideration by socialists, obviously
11:27 My daughter plays one sport. So when she's not playing soccer she's hanging with friends or with family. Why would I sign her up for another sport or two? To keep her out of the house? To make her a better soccer player? How about giving her some me time that has nothing to do with anything. This is how we roll. Soccer is for fun she just happens to be good - so we went to an "academy" club to find like minded kids.PS. When I say academy I'm not talking about a DA.
8:06 what a nice way to say thank you. Did daddy favor 9 other field players over your daughter? What level are you refering to since some fathers have coached WNT players through their youth careers. So if Anson Dorrance's daughter came to play at UNC he would suddenly become a poor coach and trainer. Educate yourself on the history of great players who were coached by their mother or father and stop making ignorant blanket statements.
Anyone who thinks the EDP league games were meaningless and not competitive needs their head examined, and this is coming from someone whose daughter's team wound up near the bottom. Every league game this Spring was great. I can only hope for the same level of play in the Fall.
9:16 Yes, most competitive league I have seen without travelling 150-300 miles like the old region 1 premier league had families doing a few years ago.
I agree if they play their cards right they could have something very special for the non us club teams and the us club teams for region 1.Just don't forget you still have teams from CT down to VA so just because your division might not travel others will.I would still like their Champions League to be more like an Open Cup in regards to allowing all their champions to play each other D1 and D2. It's a good test for the D2 teams to see if they can hang in D1 if they do pro/rel.
I know there is still travel, but I mean that dividing into north, central and south limits the distance to day trips and then top teams go to playoffs at central site..10 years ago region 1 premier league included the whole of region 1 in 1 division.10 total teams, each team had the closest team as their travel partner(same way college programs do it in league play) then you might go down to virginia with the other jersey or a NY or a long island team as your travel partner and each play both virginia and maryland top team with games at noon and then play opposite team at 3pm.the next saturday you might go to pittsburgh to play beadling and another pa team, then go north to syracuse to play syracuse and rochester in same day, then a trip t o Mass to play mass and conn top teams, then you would have one home date where you or your travel partner would host 2 games each.Bottom line was 3 or 4 long trips per season. then final 4 would have same playoff format as EDP is doing with #1 vs #4 and #2 vs #3 in semi's based on record. The playoffs would be at Kirkwood Del., great fields and central location. Many college coaches attended final 4 at U15-U17.
I hate saying it but I wouldn't mind either option.Yes the Division play with a final for is great for EDP. But I think they need to scrap the wildcard and make it like the World Club cup some champions are going to be weaker but who cares - call it a champions league then invite your 5 or 6 Division champions to the event regardless of flight. Also, they should make their EDP an OPEN Cup like the Lamar Hunt Cup - would be nice. The benefit as a family is that we would have 3 to mini vacations a year centered around soccer (of course this would stink for those that have more than one kid).
Final 4 not Final for - maybe i should proof read before i submit.Sorry
one more request make it a straight through league don't split it between fall and Spring - do home and away everyone plays twice. If a team has many multiple sport players and they can't field a team in the Spring then they shouldn't be in the league or soccer should be 1st choice. No need to try and make multiple sport athletes happy - they might not pick soccer then what? Do what the MLS did - they said F Football and Baseball they made smaller soccer specific stadiums to for the soccer fans they stopped trying to win over the other sport fans. Soccer will grow by itself as long as we have a league around, some one for our kids to cheer for domestically.
Dear Luis Suárez,Thank you for ruining a great game, you are disgrace to soccer, and Uruguay...
I think this is the 3rd time he did that. World Cup, EPL and one of the leagues he played in before.Sticking to the World Cup - Do you think my boys from Europe will say the weather had something to do with this. OUT Going HOME - Spain, England, Italy, Bosnia, Croatia, Greece and Portugal should be on this list if not for that last second goal.Go USA and CONCACAF get some respect.
I do, although they will deny it, I think the oppressive heat and humidity favored teams that are use to that environment, look soccer was not meant to be played in those conditions, its just not. Baseball is the only sport that i know of that can function in that zone.I think France will win the cup.
This is looking good for the USA and 2022 World Cup - no way they move it to the Winter and no way they play it in the Summer with 130 F - indoors or not, Qatar was a mistake made by FIFA because they hate that we don't have pro/rel and that we have more than 18 teams in our D1.
Some GS talk - I know they mean nothing - but GS is part of the landscape so i just wanted to share.Rider Cup Flight Value = 3,375Champion - YMS = 3,084Finalis - NYSC = 82 pointsNYSC Ranked #26 nationally - No Way (sorry but a team that struggled in EDP this Spring can't be #26 in the Nation)- but they brought 10,000 points to the flight for placing in every event they played in only 5 - so they weren't chasing GS points they were just successful in their events. Nothing wrong with that and in the GS world they are #26 Nationally - bravo.SO them making it to the finals - got them almost nothing because they should have won the flight heavy favorite based on GS points. YMS on the other hand didn't have many GS points so they had almost all the point credited to their team. Enough to move them up to number 8 and #135 Nationally. But I have to give credit to YMS they are doing a bunch of summer events if they can win them and rack up 3,000 point per event they will move up the rankings and once August points fall off for most teams they leap frog to the top of the charts. Not a bad move. So we have 3 approaches to rack up GS points.1. Play in 8 to 10 events.2. Play in the early Aug/Sept events.3. Play in the June/Summer events.Either way you need to place to get the points - so the teams that have the points were successful in their events.
Is PDA Storm definitely not playing in EDP Championship next month? Assuming that to be the case, who replaces them & how?
6:26, Thank you!Its nice to see that we have at least (1) fan, sort of.As Coach Holtz said:“You’re never as good as everyone tells you when you win, and you're never as bad as they say when you lose.”Enjoy!
Those flight values are yet another reason GS is a joke. But keep chasing those points.....Training the right way to get better is way more important than training to beat one team by exploiting match ups. You need to lose at times when the girls are trying to do the correct soccer play. Sorry but trying to win "at all costs" is not the correct way to coach/train at this age. You crazies who never played at this level still always want the win. Not the right way to think at u12. Hopefully if your kid gets to go on an official visit the coach will ask what her u12 EDP record was and how many league titles she had. Really????
Why do you say GS is a joke?Top events not using GS software is included. Regional leagues like EDP, NPL, Region1 and NYSCL PL are included. So why are you saying chasing GS points instead of applauding these teams for being successful in their events/leagues they play in. GS is part of this landscape and it will continue to evolve like it or not. What makes you think those teams don't train the right way? Why because they played in 5 events and placed in all 5 events because their training was good and your daughter isn't on the team or you don't coach the team you hate. That's not fair. What makes you think these girls don't lose at times? They just happen to win more times than not. Is that because they are chasing GS points or because they are trained the right way?Soccer is played to win like any other sport. The object of the game is to use your training and then adjust your tactics to put the ball in the net. Guess what all the kids at this level are good so how do you move the ball? By adjusting your formations and your style of play, the kids need to figure that out.Going back to your point - so if a team plays in 5 GS events places as Finalist or Champion in all 5 in your opinion they are chasing GS points and playing to win regardless of how they actually play? So even if they train the right way and play in leagues or events that award points they are doing it the wrong way because they don't scrimmage teams instead of playing in events like Jefferson, Delco & Manhattan to name a few.
Sorry and ECNL is included plus National League
In case you haven't figure it out Mr Pro who has played at this level and us crazies have not - meaningful games and their results are part of development. The more you win the tougher your opponents are, the faster the game is played the faster the kids need to process what needs to be done to move the ball score and win.Winning isn't everything but it part of development.Just another crazy out (I was also 10:07 and 10:08)
We have been competitive in all of our games, including the loses. This team has never quit, and does not get pushed around. They train very hard, so much so, that when new players come to practice, their parents are quick to mention the accelerated pace and style, both of which create confidence, and that is the element that our girls strive for...Be smart, be tough, and be confident.
I've been watching NYSC for about 2 years now as we live in an area where my daughter might make the trip to play on that team. Here is my opinion: the girls have mostly stayed together and improved alot over this time period. The club has them play in smaller tournaments with lesser competition which has allowed them to be successful and get GS points. They also got lucky in the NY cup draw and didn't have to play any serious teams. This has caused their GS ranking to soar and interest in them to soar which presumably will help them continue to bring in stronger girls. Bottom line. They are a very good team, but not as good as their ranking would indicate.
8:35 really being exposed now."All you crazies always want to win".I think if our kids are not doing their best and striving to win they are in the wrong program.Regardless of how many minutes they play or what style they are asked to play, they still always need to be striving to win.BTW, "exploiting matchups" is trying to win. Winning is what happens when your tactics are successful.
10:35 I agree, see quote at 8:02am, that sums it up pretty well, but as far as NY Cup goes, it was a random draw, we did not pick our schedule, we played the games, and won, and in case you are not familiar, Atletico is a good team, and they earned their place in the final by beating the Hotshotz. We were better on that day, nothing more, nothing less.
Ok Charlie Sheen #Winning You say 8:35 being exposed? As what, someone with common sense?Any coach/director of a reputable program will give you the same exact message. Find me a program who has a published mission statement of "Winning"The goal of US Club Soccer is for programs to develop the best PLAYERS, not develop winning teams. Individual players go one to achieve greatness, and teams end.
NYSC is developing some of the best players in the country, on both sides, they accept nothing short of total dedication to the sport, we are honored to be part of the team.
"Training the right way to get better is way more important than training to beat one team by exploiting match ups. You need to lose at times when the girls are trying to do the correct soccer play. Really????"It's clear that for you and your daughter the only club to be a part of is one that is committed to development. I applaud your clarity of vision. But please concede that for others the long term goal of playing in college is not important. For these people, what is more important is the kids having fun and succeeding RIGHT NOW. It's OK for them to win now even if it sacrifices development. And while no college coach will ever ask about a prospect's U12 season, kids who played together on that U12 team will certainly enjoy having a few beers in their 20s and telling the story of how they rose up and beat the so-called best team in the state when they were U12s and how angry the other team's parents were afterwards and how they said that wasn't "real soccer". That'll be a fun story for them. And it's all good. You have to allow for the fact that every player has different goals. One size does not fit all.
11:28, I agree, its important to not lose perspective, and I truly enjoy every moment with my child, and being successful is just icing on the cake.Cheers!
8:35 seems like a really miserable person with very little flexibility. He seems to feel he is the person with all the answers when it comes to soccer and his program is the only one that is doing things the right way. Anyone who disagrees with him is called names and there opinions are given no credibility.Certainly wouldn't want my daughter to play for him. Only by listening to others and respecting other opinions can we learn and grow.I'd hate to be his assistant coach. Hery 8:35, just because you are regularly winning doesn't mean you are not also trying to develop your players.Sometimes the team and the training and coaching is good and in games the players just outwork and outhustle most of the teams they play. That will usually get you wins and those wins don't mean the players are not also developing.Development doesn't mean you try and lose on purpose. Do you suggest coaches should purposely ignore a advantageous matchup they recognize and play into the opponents strengths? Seems like the coaches they have in the future will expect them to recognize and take advantage of the other teams or their opponent in their individual matchups weaknesses(lack of pace in a defender, weak left foot, team weak defending restarts, opponents defense stays high and flat when player on ball has head up in neutral third ).
I guess 8:35 wants his players to ignore those opportunities to take advantage of a situation where the other team can be exploited. How this is developing good habits is beyond me.A big part of developing as a soccer player is being able to instantly recognize those advantages and matchups in your favor and immediately make the killer pass to punish the other team.
12:46, 12:39, 11:38, 11:28, 10:39 I agree, like to recognize when to do a quick restart or when to slow things down.8:35, 10:57 - I'm not understanding your point and I don't think you see mine. All top clubs/teams are developing their players by training them the right way, skills, tactical, speed of game, study the game and the weakness of the team you are playing so you can attack them.Isn't that development of a soccer player. In my opinion it is and when you teach that and you have a strong team gifted and athletic winning comes with the territory, Why is it taboo to say GS has my daughter's team ranked #2 in the state using their software. Why is it wrong? Does it mean that this team isn't developing their players? Does it mean that they are chasing GS points. I hope you don't think that.Define Development and then define how can you measure that development, so I can understand where you are coming from
Development is whether or not a player is better at the end of the season than he/she was at the beginning. Not about how many W's his/her team has.
1:55 that is true, but it is also true that with good development and consistent improvement and good training and effective coaching that adjusts to the different strengths and weaknesses of each opponent as well as field conditions, weather etc., that a talented team that employs all of the above will win most of their games achieve great success relative to their competition as well as develop their players and teams for future success in the game.Winning and Development are not mutually exclusive.
I think it's rare to have the perspective and patience to put your kid on a team focused purely on development, and then not get ticked off when their team loses to a non-development team (whatever that is). Especially if you choose to visit internet message boards that discuss teams in your child's age group. It is just so easy and unverifiable to state "we lost, but it doesn't matter because we are only interested in development" every time your child's team loses. Best to keep silent, secure in the knowledge that your child will be better off in the long run.
2:19 I agree.1:55 I think you agree as well. I agree with your definition. So if that is what Development is - is it not possible for a team to develop their players make them better and win games along the way.Do you prefer they don't play any games. If you are going to throw a team under the bus and say they don't promote development if they are successful is crazy and to accuse someone who disagrees with you a "poser" come on man don't be so negative. It's okay to pat a team on the back if they are ranked #1 in a state by GS, it just means they were successful in the events GS used to measure teams that's all - it's not perfect and it's not the bible. It's a tool that based on it'c criteria ranks a team.I get it - you don't want a certain team to look good (who ever it may be). I just disagree.Question, if your daughter won a league or event that sent her to a National Event and they won that National event at u12 (which there is none) - are you going to tell her it doesn't matter honey you are only 12 years old, you'll forget this when you're 25.
2:24 i agree
2:11 Where did I say winning and development are mutually exclusive? I simply defined what development is and how it's measured. (at least by me)2:24 it is rare and losing to those teams is tiring. Winning is fun.
We just see it differently. You obviously always want the girls to want to win. I agree and get that. BUT they need to try things that may cost them a result during game like situations. Not many programs allow this as the parents and coaches are too concerned with results ALL the time. National/regional tournaments and state cup like events are where you are playing the top talent and you more than likely do not want that pass out of traffic during those games. A full clear may be the better call as to not affect the end result because you are concentrated on the win. So other than practice(not a real game in their minds so really does not work) or friendlies(not enough of these played at this age to try anything new). So that leaves you with local league play. Isn't this where you want to teach the girls to attempt the right play even if it may cost you a game or two? If not then, when?????
2:41I believe that it why you see many of the academy programs do way more friendlies next year. No posted results and you can get the girls trying to do the right soccer play in order to get better and move to the next level. They then start to find out who can move up and who cannot. If these girls do not try to make the right play because they are concerned about the win all the time, how are you to know which girls can and cannot execute the true soccer play in a game like situation?
2:32, I'm 1:55 and you have me confused with someone else. (assuming 8:35) I am not throwing any teams under the bus or knocking any team's success. I couldn't care less how teams look, or points or anything. I was just stating my personal opinion on the matter which aligns with some of what 8:35 posted.
2:41 I think we see it the same way - we are not laying out our points for the other to understand.I agree with you about trying things that will cost them a game. I agree winning is nice and it's fun - but a long as it's a close game it's all worth it. At the end of the day is my daughter a player now in June than she was in September is all that matters. I agree with all that. What I am saying is that if you have a team of strong players each developing at a rapid pace - chances are they will win games even when they make mistakes - not all the time but most of the time. If these teams played in local leagues the scores would lopsided. This is why GS plays a roll these teams will search out other teams to give them a game - so when they make that mistake they are punished for it. Unfortunately, sometimes GS is way off because of what you said quantity instead of quality. But that's not what I'm talking about. Also there is not need for regional tournaments anymore. You have leagues with important games every weekend. The teams will start to use these tournaments for what they were intended to be warm ups for league games not the other way around.2:52 the girls play and will try what they feel comfortable with, no pressure about a win. If they can do a step over they will, if they can do a roll the will if they can't they will pass the ball. Practice and then more practice and this is on their own - not you or I telling them to do it - them doing it will make them a better player scrimmage, friendly or state cup.3:30 I'm sorry if it came out the wrong way, I respect all opinions. Sometimes it's a little tough when we do it under the anonymous tag, but I get that as well.
3:56 is correct. What we see now with ecnl/edp/npl and the rest is league play beginning to be the most competitive and important games as they all will lead to regional and national events like EDP Champions League gives us an introduction to this summer and tournaments more for fun and preparation.
Moving forward, yes I agree with the league play being more important. Now, no. Top tournaments and state cup were what league will be. League play now is what friendlies will be later. Totally agree that league play will be the benchmark down the road...... Point was it is not in the present.
9:20 that is not what I said.I Said league play started being more important this year with more competitive edp leagues and now with champions league final 4.league play this spring was best competition and model for development, with less travel and more time to recover between games than tournaments and without the luck of the draw in state cup.
What the bloodyhell are you all talking about?Of course league play is important. The teams that decide it is NOT get bounced from said leagues.Tournaments a different animal - and equally important."Important". Please. Such a silly word used here. It's competitive youth sport, for God's sake. The games build character, teach skills at playing an coping and assess relative team strength.Have fun with it. Its not for everyone.
12:24 Have fun with it? Isn't that what we are doing? Following our kid's team as if they were ManU and talking about it on this board. Some people just take this way to personal and use it to attack others, I don't. I'll talk about anything to do with youth soccer, GS, rankings, development, league play. For sure not for everyone, and PS IMPORTANT when talking about my kid is the proper word maybe to you it's silly but to each their own.I disagree about tournaments. What's equally important about winning top flight at Jefferson? Our kid get's a medal our kid can say we played some good teams and won? Besides, playing 3 to 4 games in 2 days, what's so equal about that? I love the fact that my kid is on a team that plays in a league that gives her chance to play for a National Title. Oh you better believe we are enjoying the ride because we know it could end tomorrow and we know we won't be talking about this in a week. So we enjoy the moment and as long as She loves playing, we make the commitment as a family $$$ & Time so yes it's IMPORTANT.PS. Personally, I enjoy this board agreeing and disagreeing with you guys. For me it's fun and takes me away for a few minutes a day.
7:42, you seem wise, can I ask your opinion about GS points? I noticed that the USCS Mid-Atlantic regional is not designated as a GS Tournament event, so does that mean that the flights will not be ranked, and no GS points awarded to the various participants?
7:53 I don't know the answer to that - my guess is that they (GS) will add it manually. They have added it in the past.USCS Mid-Atlantic Regional - Hammonton NJ
"Region I Is proud to announce the Region I Champions League! This league, beginning Fall 2014, will be open to teams from the following state associations: Connecticut, Eastern New York, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Some of the features of this league to include:"Region 1 Should have all their State Cup Champions play in this league. I am curious to see how they do this.

This is why I believe Tournaments became so popular and you had teams traveling up and down the east coast. With Regional leagues now giving teams a chance to play Nationally, the only teams that will continue traveling up and down the east coast are the ones still playing in JAGS, PAGS, NOSA and LIJSL
7:53 and 8:56 need to get a room!!!!
7:42 agree completely. We ARE having fun, exchanging ideas and opinions and talking about what we love,Soccer, the Sport our daughters love. There should not be so much negativity attached to this experience. And you are right, it can and does end at any time.so enjoy the ride with your kid while you can as you will soon be missing these days!

Looks like a bunch of PA teams will be playing 11v11 for the first time this year.It will be interesting to see how they match up.
For those that are not following the ECNL Finals/Playoffs in Seattle this week. I listed the below 3 clubs that get some love on this board.ECNL PDA U14 (W2, T1, L0, GF7, GA3)PDA U15 (W0, T1, L0, GF0, GA0)PDA U16 (W1, T0, L0, GF3, GA1)PDA U17 (W1, T0, L0, GF2, GA1)PDA U18 (W3, T0, L0, GF11, GA4)Match Fit Academy U15 (W0, T1, L0, GF1, GA1)Match Fit Academy U16 (W0, T0, L1, GF0, GA2)Match Fit Academy U17 (W1, T0, L0, GF4, GA0)Penn Fusion SA U15 (W1, T0, L0, GF2, GA0)Penn Fusion SA U16 (W0, T0, L1, GF2, GA5)Penn Fusion SA U17 (W0, T0, L1, GF1, GA4)World Class FC U14 (W0, T1, L2, GF6, GA10)
The list of teams in that tournament is exactly why the academies will train more with older teams and play friendlies to work towards the next level. Does "winning" that tournament help that cause??? Don't think so.
STA shaping up to be pretty good in August 23rd/24th. good teams last year at least. Think my daughters club is going.
What good teams were at STA last year? NJX ran over everyone. There was a team in that tournament that had a record like 0-14
NJX and Force I think were only two. I will even give them a pass because it was last year and had no idea who would be in it but that we know and are all attempting to move on, why in the world would you play in that tourney?? Other than to get points..... Go scrimmage a U13 team instead. Way more productive.
Who knows regarding STA, I am a parent, looked good last year at least with NJX/Force interesting. thanks
NJ Force was good at that time. Played NJX to a 1-0 lossSamba and STA got better as the season wore on but in September were not as strong, apparantly.STA first team never played NJX in that tourney, of course.
I also see Samba, Cortland, NJ Crush, NJSA04, not too bad, right? for middle level team to go to? Remember not everyone on this blog plays top 10 lol. Some are actually only top 50 or so.
11v11 not looking very strong at Region1 Championships.Storm win 8-0, FSA win 7-0, Sachem win 4-0.the 8v8 bracket looks a lot tighter. PA's Ukranian Nationals dropped 1st game 1-2.No scores posted at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals yet.Nest year the US Club State champs go directly to Nationals and the Winners of the OPEN Regionals also join them. While over on the USYSA side the winners of the State Cups go to regionals and from there can qualify for Nationals and Nationals league. All the fun starts in about another Month. Enjoy the summer and play hard for the girls playing.
Is the format set where Storm/FDA/sachem will play each other?
PDA loses today 1-0 to FSA CT. This tournament is a joke. NO matter what PDA will plays in semi's.

They killed a team and lost to the #1 Team in CT 1-0. So your are calling them a disgrace because they tied Sachem 2-2? PS. Look at the 8v8 flight- not bad - Let me guess iStorm is to blame because Nj plays 11v11 - of course.PSS. I do agree with you that US Club soccer will pass Region 1.But if we were to Compare Region 1 11v11 flight the US Club Soccer Mid-Atlantic Flight - Region1 still wins even though it's a joke in your eyes.
Every team playing Region 1 is VERY Weak only team that I can say is a good club is FSA. NOT A TOP TEAM. PDA to win one, lose one and a TIE. is a disgrace. PERIOD

All I hear is PDA is this, PDA that. How great this team is. How we are going to walk all over these teams. This team is a joke, Yes I am friendly with those parents and I tell them this as well
I wouldn't call them a joke.Still one of better teams in NJThey will probably end up winning regionals in the end. If not , PDA will have to look at what they have and reevaluate what they need for this team to be successful at the highest level.
10:00 you make me laugh,I'm not at regionals , but obviously you aren't either.
10:00 you do realize they are talking about their kids? right? When you say PDA this and PDA that - is it Club or Storm?Regardless - It sounds like you feel the same way about your kids team, but as 10:34 said you need to win your State tournament to play at the USYSA Regional. This isn't the US Club Soccer Regional where it is an open application. All this hate, but I guess you keep the board going by design or not. Great for the board for it's traffic (see I posted a reply to your post).
If PDA wins Region 1, is this an accomplishment? I have to say no, 4 teams make semi's out of 6. Not much to brag about after seeing their results
I believe the accomplishment is that you have to get there first and only one team got there. Then you play whats in front of you. If you win, then you climbed the mountain. are these the best teams in region 1-of course not, but the team survived, starting from state cup and won it all.I wouldn't mind it being my daughters team.
8:24 I agree the accomplishment is winning your state's event to qualify for the regional. This not an open event. Who plays 8v8 or 11v11 is not in your control, the format they use is not in your control - all you can do is play your games and if the girls play they can say they were Full Sided - NJYSA State Champions and Region 1 State champions during the 2013-2014 season. I would also be very happy if my kid did both, wouldn't you 8:15? Or would you tell your kid - you're not the champs you didn't beat any good teams in my opinion.
Actually, winning NJYSA State Champs in my opinion is great if all teams joined. Not the case here.Next hearing how PDA should not attend as the teams attending are not worth while. No competition. Well how did that go?
Are storm's new players at the region 1 tournament?
Honestly I am not sure what your point is on the matter.PDA is a great club, very competitive. If this team follows in the same steps as other teams they will be one of the strongest teams in the nation.Girls may change a bit including possibly your daughter be playing for this team.So what,s your point. This is u12 soccer and the current group of girls are enjoying the ride.I would say the same about Matchfit or any other high level team.

The only way you get points is if strong teams or successful teams apply for the the same event. YES, you have to beat good teams to get points. You can play 10 events like the one storm just played and they would accumulate less than what they would get for finishing as a semi-finalist at Delco, Jefferson or PDA. Hate GS all that you want but with more leagues being included the picture will become clearer in the months to come. The next big event looks like SPIRIT in PA, they were the only ones that put up an applied list. So for teams looking for GS points and good competition, PA might be the place to be in August

If the score is correct - congrats to Sachem for their Region 1 Championship WIN over PDA Storm 1-0. The win should put them at #7 in NYE.
"Look out for Sta npl, they looked good yesterday. Great ball movement, and good skills. Team to watch this fall, may shock a few"Really?Saw them play in Neptune, they got shut out 3-0 by the new NJSA Galaxy team.
For Sachem, this was a great event by getting wins over PDA Storm and FSA Navy and also a tie vs PDA storm.Where does this put Sachem in NYE talk now? Using GS their record is below:W = 24T = 2L =4GF = 84GA = 19
9:58 why would you say that? Just because you saw them get shutout means they don't move the ball well and don't have good skills? Maybe they had a bad day. The great PDA Storm got shutout by Sachem today 1-0 and they tied Sachem the other day 2-2. This is the same Sachem team that Ajax beat 3-1 at Delco. So what exactly does that mean? How do these results come into play when someone is saying a team plays well and moves the ball well and the kids have some good skills? So besides the 3-0 scoreline how did they play? Did they try to move the ball, do the girls have good foot skills?
This PDA team lost to two good teams. But they certainly weren't great
Njsa beat the STA white team which is the B teamThey are referring above to STA A team or NPL team
More than half the teams in the ne npl shouldnt even be playing in it. More than half are slightly better than average town teams. Bunch of suckers driving a long way for poor competition and alot of money
"More than half the teams in the ne npl shouldnt even be playing in it. More than half are slightly better than average town teams. Bunch of suckers driving a long way for poor competition and alot of money"Translation: Some good players left my daughter's town team to go play NPL, and I am upset about it.
11:16 Maybe you are right - any you are not a sucker either by choice or by your kid being removed from a roster - not important which it is. You thing the NE NPL is poor.I on the other hand like it and think it's a step in the right direction. Making league games count. Giving the kids a chance to train hard during the week and something to measure their success with. Let's look at the PA teams very weak, but what's to say they will be at u14 or u15. Look at Soccer + in CT didn't field strong teams, but they merged with FSA and now have a much bigger pool of players to field a strong ECNL and NE NPL Team. Looking at MA, CT and NJ you have 7 strong teams. The NY teams are okay and the PA teams need some work. This may also be because NY and PA may not have bought into the US Club Soccer vision. Which is fine as well, I guess.I think we need one path in our country with a true pyramid for soccer. Instead we have many and it just complicates matters. I will use the US CLub soccer model.Their Pyramid:Tier 1 ECNLTier 2 NPLTier 3 PLTier 4 Local TravelTier 5 RecreationalThis is a clear path, yes I understand some don't like it because it's a closed system. But it's a step in the right direction as a players gets better they move up the pyramid.and in a perfect world this pyramid can become part of the USSF pyramid as Tier 5 with players moving up to Tier 4 W-20Tier 3 WPSLTier 2 W-LegueTier 1 NWSLIt's a clear path for kids. SO instead of just knocking something give it some time, this is Year 4 I think for ECNL and year 2 for NPL (Girls), year 1 for NE Girls NPL
"Where does that put Sachem now?"Wherever Gotsoccer has them. Then make a case for adjustment.Their schedule sure hasnt been tough prior to this summer.
NJSA Galaxy lost 7-0? Wow. Wasn't expecting that after all the talk of how good they were going to be. I guess the players who went elsewhere made a great decision.
Aside from Howard, Demarcus Beasley and Andre Yedlin delivered exciting performances today.
Go back to 8:54am and 10:52am on june 18th and they predicted NJSA Galaxy was going to be vying for top 5 in NJ with PDA Ajax, Crush, Wildcats, and NJX, all proven top 5 teams and we were asked who among those named including Galaxy, would be considered for top 3. Then also quoted they will be very tough team this year give them their due. After 0-7 shellacking vs first top 5 team they faced in Ajax what do you figure you are due?Where do you feel you should be ranked now based on that result?Still in the conversation? You should have heeded the advice to keep silent until you at least played some games.
