U13G / U13 Girls Youth Soccer

U13G  / U13 Girls youth soccer seems to offer the most teams and the widest diversity of talent.

Where these players will end up is anyone guess.

Welcome to the ride.

11v11 not looking very strong at

Region1 Championships.
Storm win 8-0, FSA win 7-0, Sachem win 4-0.
the 8v8 bracket looks a lot tighter. PA's Ukranian Nationals dropped 1st game 1-2.

No scores posted at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals yet.

Nest year the US Club State champs go directly to Nationals and the Winners of the OPEN Regionals also join them. While over on the USYSA side the winners of the State Cups go to regionals and from there can qualify for Nationals and Nationals league.

All the fun starts in about another Month. Enjoy the summer and play hard for the girls playing.

Is the format set where Storm/FDA/sachem will play each other?

PDA loses today 1-0 to FSA CT.

This tournament is a joke. NO matter what PDA will plays in semi's.

They killed a team and lost to the #1 Team in CT 1-0. So your are calling them a disgrace because they tied Sachem 2-2?

PS. Look at the 8v8 flight- not bad - Let me guess iStorm is to blame because Nj plays 11v11 - of course.

PSS. I do agree with you that US Club soccer will pass Region 1.

But if we were to Compare Region 1 11v11 flight the US Club Soccer Mid-Atlantic Flight - Region1 still wins even though it's a joke in your eyes.

Anonymous said...

Every team playing Region 1 is VERY Weak only team that I can say is a good club is FSA. NOT A TOP TEAM. PDA to win one, lose one and a TIE. is a disgrace. PERIOD

All I hear is PDA is this, PDA that. How great this team is. How we are going to walk all over these teams.

This team is a joke, Yes I am friendly with those parents and I tell them this as well

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't call them a joke.

Still one of better teams in NJ

They will probably end up winning regionals in the end. If not , PDA will have to look at what they have and reevaluate what they need for this team to be successful at the highest level.

Anonymous said...

10:00 you make me laugh,
I'm not at regionals , but obviously you aren't either.

Anonymous said...

10:00 you do realize they are talking about their kids? right?

When you say PDA this and PDA that - is it Club or Storm?

Regardless - It sounds like you feel the same way about your kids team, but as 10:34 said you need to win your State tournament to play at the USYSA Regional. This isn't the US Club Soccer Regional where it is an open application.

All this hate, but I guess you keep the board going by design or not. Great for the board for it's traffic (see I posted a reply to your post).

Anonymous said...

If PDA wins Region 1, is this an accomplishment? I have to say no, 4 teams make semi's out of 6. Not much to brag about after seeing their results

Anonymous said...

I believe the accomplishment is that you have to get there first and only one team got there. Then you play whats in front of you. If you win, then you climbed the mountain. are these the best teams in region 1-of course not, but the team survived, starting from state cup and won it all.

I wouldn't mind it being my daughters team.

Anonymous said...

8:24 I agree the accomplishment is winning your state's event to qualify for the regional. This not an open event. Who plays 8v8 or 11v11 is not in your control, the format they use is not in your control - all you can do is play your games and if the girls play they can say they were Full Sided - NJYSA State Champions and Region 1 State champions during the 2013-2014 season. I would also be very happy if my kid did both, wouldn't you 8:15? Or would you tell your kid - you're not the champs you didn't beat any good teams in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

Actually, winning NJYSA State Champs in my opinion is great if all teams joined. Not the case here.

Next hearing how PDA should not attend as the teams attending are not worth while. No competition. Well how did that go?

Anonymous said...

Are storm's new players at the region 1 tournament?

Anonymous said...

Are storm's new players at the region 1 tournament?

Anonymous said...

Honestly I am not sure what your point is on the matter.

PDA is a great club, very competitive. If this team follows in the same steps as other teams they will be one of the strongest teams in the nation.

Girls may change a bit including possibly your daughter be playing for this team.

So what,s your point. This is u12 soccer and the current group of girls are enjoying the ride.

I would say the same about Matchfit or any other high level team.

11v11 Region 1 Champion

Below Breakdown of GS points + whatever bonus points they get.

Sachem
3,820 if they win
1,910 if they lose

PDA Storm
274 if the win
137 if they lose.

As you can see GS does not reward teams for just playing GS events to collect points. The only way you get points is if strong teams or successful teams apply for the the same event. YES, you have to beat good teams to get points. You can play 10 events like the one storm just played and they would accumulate less than what they would get for finishing as a semi-finalist at Delco, Jefferson or PDA. Hate GS all that you want but with more leagues being included the picture will become clearer in the months to come. The next big event looks like SPIRIT in PA, they were the only ones that put up an applied list. So for teams looking for GS points and good competition, PA might be the place to be in August

If the score is correct - congrats to Sachem for their Region 1 Championship WIN over PDA Storm 1-0. The win should put them at #7 in NYE.

Anonymous said...

"Look out for Sta npl, they looked good yesterday. Great ball movement, and good skills. Team to watch this fall, may shock a few"

Really?
Saw them play in Neptune, they got shut out 3-0 by the new NJSA Galaxy team.

Anonymous said...

For Sachem, this was a great event by getting wins over PDA Storm and FSA Navy and also a tie vs PDA storm.

Where does this put Sachem in NYE talk now?
Using GS their record is below:
W = 24
T = 2
L =4
GF = 84
GA = 19

Anonymous said...

9:58 why would you say that? Just because you saw them get shutout means they don't move the ball well and don't have good skills? Maybe they had a bad day. The great PDA Storm got shutout by Sachem today 1-0 and they tied Sachem the other day 2-2. This is the same Sachem team that Ajax beat 3-1 at Delco. So what exactly does that mean? How do these results come into play when someone is saying a team plays well and moves the ball well and the kids have some good skills?

So besides the 3-0 scoreline how did they play? Did they try to move the ball, do the girls have good foot skills?

Anonymous said...

This PDA team lost to two good teams. But they certainly weren't great

"More than half the teams in the ne npl shouldnt even be playing in it. More than half are slightly better than average town teams. Bunch of suckers driving a long way for poor competition and alot of money"

Translation: Some good players left my daughter's town team to go play NPL, and I am upset about it.

Anonymous said...

11:16 Maybe you are right - any you are not a sucker either by choice or by your kid being removed from a roster - not important which it is. You thing the NE NPL is poor.

I on the other hand like it and think it's a step in the right direction. Making league games count. Giving the kids a chance to train hard during the week and something to measure their success with. Let's look at the PA teams very weak, but what's to say they will be at u14 or u15. Look at Soccer + in CT didn't field strong teams, but they merged with FSA and now have a much bigger pool of players to field a strong ECNL and NE NPL Team. Looking at MA, CT and NJ you have 7 strong teams. The NY teams are okay and the PA teams need some work. This may also be because NY and PA may not have bought into the US Club Soccer vision. Which is fine as well, I guess.

I think we need one path in our country with a true pyramid for soccer. Instead we have many and it just complicates matters. I will use the US CLub soccer model.

Their Pyramid:

Tier 1 ECNL
Tier 2 NPL
Tier 3 PL
Tier 4 Local Travel
Tier 5 Recreational

This is a clear path, yes I understand some don't like it because it's a closed system. But it's a step in the right direction as a players gets better they move up the pyramid.

and in a perfect world this pyramid can become part of the USSF pyramid as Tier 5 with players moving up to

Tier 4 W-20
Tier 3 WPSL
Tier 2 W-Legue
Tier 1 NWSL

It's a clear path for kids.

SO instead of just knocking something give it some time, this is Year 4 I think for ECNL and year 2 for NPL (Girls), year 1 for NE Girls NPL

Anonymous said...

"Where does that put Sachem now?"

Wherever Gotsoccer has them. Then make a case for adjustment.

Their schedule sure hasnt been tough prior to this summer.

Anonymous said...

NJSA Galaxy lost 7-0? Wow. Wasn't expecting that after all the talk of how good they were going to be. I guess the players who went elsewhere made a great decision.

Anonymous said...

Aside from Howard, Demarcus Beasley and Andre Yedlin delivered exciting performances today.

Anonymous said...

Go back to 8:54am and 10:52am on june 18th and they predicted NJSA Galaxy was going to be vying for top 5 in NJ with PDA Ajax, Crush, Wildcats, and NJX, all proven top 5 teams and we were asked who among those named including Galaxy, would be considered for top 3. Then also quoted they will be very tough team this year give them their due.
After 0-7 shellacking vs first top 5 team they faced in Ajax what do you figure you are due?
Where do you feel you should be ranked now based on that result?
Still in the conversation?
You should have heeded the advice to keep silent until you at least played some games.

Anonymous said...

NJ top 5

1. Match Fit Black
2. NJX Celtic
3. PDA Storm
4. PDA Ajax
5. Crush

Good Luck to Black at NPL Finals

Teams I am looking forward to see next year are the Dragons (added many players) and the MF Black (Added many players)

Anonymous said...

It will be interesting watching the two ecnl teams in NJ compete for the best team in NJ.

Looking at both teams, not sure which team will be better.

Club history says Matchfit will fade but who knows maybe this age group gets it right.

Anonymous said...

I heard MF Black is virtually unchanged for next season

Anonymous said...

MF Black has not proved anything at this age group. Because you beat a team 1 time, during a regular season game, does not mean you are better. I would still pick NJX as the number 1 team. They have played the best teams out of State closer than any of the other teams. I would like to see all of them play in the same flight to determine who is better. Storm has the better style of play out of the top 5. If you want to give teams style points then that's a different poll. But until Black beats up on this age group, they are not number 1. I would say number 4 or 5.

1. NJX
2. Storm
3. Ajax
4. Wildcats
5. MF Black

Team style poll

1. Storm
2. Ajax
3. MF
4. NJX
5. Wildcats

Wildcats would hammer MF Black. Mark it down.

Anonymous said...

MF Black will no longer be called Black. Black will be North based team.

MF Black last season and this season vs U12 teams lost 3 times only (Breakers, Stars of MA, World Class. Played vs all top teams. Sorry I lean towards Black over PDA and NJX.

Comment on MF getting it right. Have very good teams from U15-U18. I think they are getting it right

Anonymous said...

Sorry. Looking at Blacks tournament results, it seems like they shy away from the tougher brackets and they lose to the too teams. I think NJX beat World Class Andries FC Stars. Lost to Breakers 3-0 and MF lost 5-0.
MF barely beat Storm. Luck. Everyone can have an opinion and I respect your opinion but they cannot be called number 1 when they haven't won anything in this age group. They were given 3 years to do something in this age group and they haven't done anything yet. Just people smoking that stuff!

Anonymous said...

Luck I think NOT.

This teams plays up last 2 years. Not shying away from any competition.

Anonymous said...

lol.. the team plays up? They don't dominate at their own age group. Couldn't even beat Samba this year.

Anonymous said...

Any of the top 5 teams at u12 could play u13 b & c teams and win. Not impressive! You play up against weak teMs and then go to Delco and switch to the weaker bracket and still lose....not number 1 in NJ.

Anonymous said...

Matchfit Black will be a good team next year.

They will compete.

PDA is confusing to me as they lose to mid level teams at the regionals.

Anonymous said...

Yes MF Black is a good team. Not saying that. Just saying they are not #1 until they knock off PDA, NJX or Wildcats in a tournament or continuously.

PDA played w/o their new additions and w/o their head coach. This makes a difference.

Anonymous said...

11:13 -
How many new girls will PDA Storm have and what will the roster size be?
I agree that not having your coach makes a difference, but the new additions shouldn't be taken into account until the fall.

Anonymous said...

Rosters are always frozen for USYS Regionals, Therefore any new players coming in -in the middle of the year cannot play in the regionals.

Which is the way it should be. You shouldn't be able to bring the new players that were acquired in the Spring.

Anonymous said...

Already knocked off PDA.

Next playing U12, coach played everyone to take advantage of extra games.

Storm is much better now with the new additions than with the girls who won the state cup.

I thought the blow hards on this board decided that the only way to be #1 in the state is to win a state cup? so following that logic - MF will never be anointed the topped ranked team in NJ by this bunch of youth soccer experts. doesn't matter who they consistently beat in league play because the youth soccer blog gods ruled that league play is for developmental purposes only... oh wait - screw that developmental stuff... MF couldn't beat SDFC Samba in league play - so MF isn't really that good.

everyone can take whatever angle they want that best suits the point they are trying to make... here's mine:

I'm not a MF parent - just a parent of a team that has beaten MF, tied them, and received a beatdown from them... in that order and over the course of the last 18 months. this is a very good team that is getting better every season. hate all you want - but give them the respect that they deserve.

8:16 this board is a revolving door. First there is Hate on PDA Storm, then there is Hate on MF Black and now that we are on MF soon the who will be the ECNL questions will pop up, then we will move on to Wildcats Hate followed by a South jersey thing and a movement to put Ajax in top of the charts in NJ.

It's just how we roll on this board. MF will have a BIG 3rd game at NPL Finals as they will NEFC which might win the entire thing. That will a good test for MF and just for the record that NEFC team is no B team.

While many learned professors have abandoned hope of ever discovering the truth behind small goal soccer, I for one feel that it is still a worthy cause for examination. I really, really like small goal soccer. Indispensable to homosapians today, it is impossible to overestimate its impact on modern thought.

"How many PA teams make the top flight of an 11v11 event after they played their entire season as 8v8?"

For U13 in 2013, the top 11v11 bracket comprised
5 PAE
4 NJ
2 MA
1 MD

In 2012
8 PAE
1 each from NYE, NJ, MA, MD

Certainly looks like they take care of the PAE teams, which isn't surprising considering it is a PA tournament.

That all being said, the transition from 8v8 to 11v11 doesn't appear to be that big a factor.

LVU and Hulmeville were teams just barely in a PA top 10 as 8v8 teams, and they remain just barely in a PA top 10 as 11v11 teams.

WCUSC was a finalist at Spirit and won Jeff Cup playing 8v8. They made semis at Delco playing 11v11. Still a good team playing either 8v8 or 11v11.

Just posting this to have a date stamp as of today. You can see from the below GS points how many the ECNL/NE NPL clubs have with their event count in ( ). Easy for anyone to measure their teams success rate and compare it to ECNL Club A and B teams.

I think this will also paint a picture about how successful PDA Storm really is and How much more love MF and Albertson would get if they played in 2 events more on the ECNL side.

On the NPL Side you can also see some quality teams

9:05 Yes but just because it's a PA event doesn't mean you flight PA teams ahead of 11v11 teams from out of state with a proven track record playing 11v11. Penn Fusion looks strong all the others, not so strong. I guess we'll see this year if playing 8v8 for an extra 2 years benefited teams with all those extra touches. AND before anyone posts it will take time to adjust to the larger field - I would argue against that, if anything the teams that stayed small sided should be better with all the extra space. The kids should be fit anyway. Good times ahead.

This looks accurate to me, although I'd move PL to the back in view of the shellacking FC Rev gave them at Delco Cup, and PL's loss to the Ukrainians in state cup.

Tough to justify WCUSC/Penn Fusion at the top of PA when they have the 1-0 loss to Nether/1776 from Spirit last year and a bad 1-0 loss to HMMS in the quarterfinals of states. But on the other hand, they beat PL and Ukrainians easily last fall as well. Better to keep this a "Top 5 in any order" rather than an actual ranking.

Agreed, but based on past track record, I'd be very surprised if PF, 1776, PL, and Ukrainians (all four are on the applied list) weren't all placed in the top bracket.

Maybe there's an argument to drop PL down to the second bracket. But the other three are the Top ranked team using GS, the current champs from last year's 8v8 bracket, and the current state champs. It's pretty easy to justify having all three in the top bracket if the organizers are so inclined.

CFC ECNL will not be in top flight. CFC is very realistic where their U13s currently stand. They may not even be second flight.

And with all their departures, would Rage even want the top flight?

My best guess is that GotSoccer points will be the tiebreaker if two teams are comparable. We had a similar discussion when the Jeff Cup flights came out. WCUSC/PF and Nether got the top flight while PL and Ukrainians got second flight. It was all based on GS points.

So, to your question, Breakers, NJX and Ajax would all probably be in top flight, while MF would not. For the PAE teams, PL and Ukrainians would likely get bumped down.

Didn't someone previously put forth the idea that GotSoccer was leaning on the tournament organizers to use their rankings if they were also using the GotSoccer software?

Harford is a team that could also get placed into a lower bracket. Not a lot of current club name recognition, and they fared poorly in the Delco Tournament (which is also run by CFC).

Anonymous said...

where are you getting the EDL NPL teams from?

Anonymous said...

Can PDA have two NE NPL teams? Thought you could only have one team per academy......

Anonymous said...

My daughter's team played your NJ top 3.

MF Black
PDA Storm
NJX

Ajax as well. Ajax is just a notch below.

PDA plays a very nice possession game. Vs our team they struggled vs the high pressure. Did not mustard much offense. New girls did not add much in my opinion. I actually felt it hurt the team based on what I saw in the fall. Team goes East and West too much, need to stretch field. Very little creatively, poor 1v1 skills. Everything is pass, pass. Too much pattern play, girls were too robotic. If pattern play is disrupted, girls are unable to be creative. I am dissecting this team, a very solid team overall. Can beat anyone and lose as well. Team needs faster more athletic team overall.

Match Fit Black team plays possession as well, more attacking style. Constantly spreading team wide, using through balls best team I seen utilize this strategy . Puts a lot of pressure on back 4. Creates many opportunities. Only team I have seen that really uses wide, crosses, runs to back post, getting numbers up in box. Once these girls get older, stronger, these girls will capitalize on those opportunities. Strong center backs, strong midfield, best wingers that in have seen. Need a true striker, more attacking outside backs.

NJX. Very fast and physical. Has one center back that is very fast, she can become a solid player. Need to learn to play with feet more. Very little build up from back or middle of field. Plays everything direct. (if able to play like Black stretching teams and playing through balls with purpose, will become stronger) right now kicking then chasing. This team is able to beat many teams due to size and speed. Will struggle vs possession teams as results has shown. I have heard 2 NJX GIRLS will be playing with ECNL next year. This will weakened team. Most likely this move with take place mid fall season.

I am not debating just providing a feedback from outside NJ on the 3 mentioned above only

I would rank them as a team
MF
PDA
NJX

Best possession team
PDA
MF
NJX

1v1 players, creative
MF
PDA
NJX

Defense
MF
NJX
PDA

Have a Happy 4th

Also, Just curious, if you are from out of State, how could you possibly know what girls are new at PDA.?

I definitely think someone is full of Shhh here.

Common opponents

World Class
East Meadow
Albertson
CFC

MF definitely robotic. Coach tells them where to pass the ball, when to shoot etc...

lol.. who would have those common opponents at their finger tips.. MF Dad , that's who. So transparent. Couldn't get past 7 words on PDA before starting to bash them.. So obvious.. and NJX needs to play like "Black" what a poser.
Enjoy yelling daddy coach.

Anonymous said...

3:21 why would you say that?

Thank you 2:46, I disagree with your PDA breakdown, how many times have you played Storm?

EDL NPL team list is from NPL website - I adjusted NYSC and Manhattan since it looks like they moved to NYCSL based on their alignments. The two PDA teams in NPL is just a guess that it will be NE NPL, it looks like both will be in an NPL, I can also FC Stars, Breakers, MF and CT FC also putting in multiple teams this year or in the future.

Happy 4th ALL

PS. Based on u12 Results only and if the leagues are the way I posted.

NJX, NJ Crush and NJ Wildcats would be my guess to represent the leagues at the 2015 NPL Finals

Anonymous said...

Looked at Got Soccer

PDA didn't play world or East meadow or Albertson in Spring .

You said you played them twice as a comparison.

LOL...smells like Matchfit to me.

Yo must be really insecure about your team Matchfit parent. Relax its just u12 soccer.

Anonymous said...

Of course it's a MF parent. Stop coming on here pumping your chest about your daughters team being the best. Just have them prove it day in and day out. MF hasn't done this. NJX players aren't even MF yet and someone is saying that their players are playing u14. Only someone from the inside would have that information. From what I have seen, PDA is the best possession team and NJX has the most athletes in this age group. Black has about 5 good players. The weaker players are hidden behind these players. I have seen all of these teams play, numerous times.

My daughter played Ajax at an indoor tourney this past winter at University of Pennsylvania. PA teams there included Ukrainians, Nether, Lower Merion, and a team that was a mix of West Chester and Penn Legacy players.

Ajax parents seemed fine to me. Nice even. Maybe the bad seeds weren't there?

Anonymous said...

It's funny how a post can be made anonymously and then followed up by by the same poster posing as different readers to attempt to reinforce the original bogus post. So for example if a team beats another team by a wide margin and the losing parents were not expecting it and those parents are frustrated, someone can come on here and post something negative about the team or the parents that is not even remotely accurate with the hope of bringing that team down.

How bout spending a little more time working and practicing with your kids so maybe that score might not be so one sided next time instead of the bogus posts.

Actually PDA did pretty well at ECNL playoffs this year.

They willl probably be voted Number 1 ECNL club in the country once again-so it appears to be one of the better clubs in the country and is located right here in our back yard.

As far as Regionals for this team, they seem to have done pretty well getting to the finals.

and No , players recruited this year were not allowed to participate in the regionals. so not sure where you get 22 players.

In the end i am sure both Matchfit and PDA will be two great choices for our kids.

I for one am glad that we have two ECNL choices for our kids.

I hope they allow another club from NJ into the league.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Honest assessment of the 3 teams are as follows:

Best fast physical/fast Striker is NJX

Best outside midfielders /Matchfit

Best Defense is NJX/PDA

Best one vs one player is PDA

Best Goalie is Matchfit

Best Midfield/PDA/Matchfit

Best outside forwards/PDA

Best difference Maker/ PDA

I would take a combination of players from each of these teams and from the wildcats as well to form a super team that would be able to compete against anyone nationally.

All these girls are super talented and the teams could beat each other depending on the particular day.

Each play a different style of soccer

Enjoy your kids and happy 4th of July.

Anonymous said...

I tend to lean towards first poster, one above.

I agree with striker - NJX

Outside mid fielder's and wings go to Match Fit

1v1 players - Match Fit

Best Goalie- I like PDA, Match Fit very good option

Mid field - PDA\Match Fit

Best Difference Maker- neither team have that one player, like East Meadow. PDA and Match Fit have solid teams. Either team will not drop off if a player gets injuries. Credit clubs for building the proper way

I do prefer the attacking style

I'm going to use Spirit as my example because they provided their applied list for EVERYONE to see - clearly money is not driving this event. Every coach can see the teams and if the level is appropriate for their team BRAVO guys. The event people will have a tough time with making flights for this event. They have used a 12 team top flight in the past which I believe hurts the teams when it comes to GS points. Not just the top flight but for the lesser flights. I will use the PDA event as an example as well.

2013 Spirit top 8v8 flight 12 teams - Max GS points 10,000 to be given to 4 teams.

2014 PDA top flight 8 teams - Max GS points 10,000 to be given to 4 teams.

In this example PDA's second flight would have more value that the Spirit 2nd Flight.

As I said I am curious to see how the flights look when they are done - I believe teams have one more day to apply. July 6th is the deadline. I would love to see them do fights of 8 so they can take care of the teams that picked their event since GS is part of the landscape and most likely isn't going away. From the below list 9 teams will bring a max value of 10,000 points so the top flight will be 10,000 for sure - after that it's anybody's guess.

ONE more time Bravo Spirit - for giving us something to chat about and at the same time giving your event some chatter can only make it bigger next year.

GFA is a one man show. No offense to the other players on the team, but my goodness. I've never seen anything like that.

Anonymous said...

Certain players such as GFA player mentioned would be major offensive standout regardless of the team she is playing on, dont have any ties to that team which many wont believe but can say without any hesitation if you put her on NJX, Storm, or whatever, you would still see a major differentiation making everyone else around them appear to be a notch below. It is easier to put an entire team down many notches than to put one player that high on a pedestal so lets all go with that.

Any advice other there on how to deal with an end-of- season evaluation from the coach that you don't agree with, is there any point in bringing the matter up? Any suggestions?

It was very specific, and mostly fair and honest, except for one aspect, which is really wrong, not sure it it's just me, but that aspect might affect her selection to any id camps, it's actually pretty ridiculous, if you ask me, so please don't.

Anonymous said...

At 7:32

Your coach chooses the player they want to identify or it can be done by outside coaches while in league play.

Have you asked the coach if this will affect the possibility of her getting chosen?

Style of play will color how a coach views your daughter on the pitch.

For me open discussion with the coach was always the way to go but keep in mind, he already knows that you are bias and may not see things in the clearest and most objective manner.

You also need to decide if the coaches vision is the correct one for your daughter. I sometimes higher a 3rd party professional observer that has nothing to do with the coach to watch my daughter in games to tell me what he sees. You would be amazed at how different opinions can be amongst so called Professional coaches.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for your feedback. No, I have not thought about a third party observation, but if I have to do that, them the writing is on the wall. It seems like he just doesn't see what I see, and I know I am slightly partial, but I go to every practice and game, and watch very closely, for this very reason. So now I have a dilemma, and it's not do much his opinion versus mine, it's is it really any different anywhere else, lots to think about. Cheers!

Sorry, guys but I am a little confused. The coach, gave your daughter a year end evaluation and you don't agree with a portion of it? Is that correct? Didn't you bring your kid to a place where you don't have to do anything but enjoy the soccer ride? If you disagree you have two choices in my opinion. Talk to your kid about the evaluation and what the coach thinks she needs to do to improve and work on it together OR leave. I think you need to leave if you disagree with their professional opinion since no good can come with that and you don't want to bring a negative attitude to her training/games. Just my opinion

I disagreed with what the club thought of my kid, we moved and she's doing really well and is very happy in her new environment. Respect the coaches opinion or move on. To me it's that simple. If your kid is good she will always have a top team to play for, if she isn't then you will know that as well.

Just think hard and do what's best for your kid.

Anonymous said...

It not always easy to know what is right for your kid. As an example, this is the best team in the area, and we don't want to drive 2 hours to practice, each way. We have decided to not tell her that aspect of his evaluation, but rather focus on the positives, and improve her standing. It tough either way, and sometimes what you think is not that important.

Anonymous said...

I never understood someone who pays big bucks for a premier club and then not want to take the word and advice of the experts they are paying. There's a reason why they are a professional trainer and you're not. If you want to evaluate your own kid, go coach a town team. You can play her at striker for 60 minutes a game, and call her the next Alex Morgan at the year end pizza party.

Anonymous said...

Wow. That's a radical approach. Your daughter should KNOW the negative aspect of the evaluation.

Do you have any close friends in the sport you can run it by? If they'd be honest, and have seen her play a good number of times, use them as a sounding board. But don't trash the coach in the process.

Anonymous said...

She does know what she has to work-on, she is aware of her problem area, and will be reminded before every practice and game, trust me. Its psychological, not physical, so its something that you have to reinforce, but hopefully she will she the light.

And yes, I do trust them to train her correctly, they have, she has improved greatly, the issue is more about how she ranks within the team.

Look, you really don't need to be a professional player, or a professional coach, or a professional anything to know what is what, and when I mentioned the situation to some of the other parents they were also surprised, so.

I played soccer, I have coached soccer, and I am an avid fan of the game, so don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about, I have eyes, and can be flexible, so that is what I am going to be flexible.

Anonymous said...

every parent thinks they "know" soccer. Again, coach a team if you want to control her evaluations instead of trying to change the opinion of a trained professional.

Anonymous said...

10:39.

Any coach worth his salt will tell you that his evaluation is not the gospel of the almighty soccer Gods.

Different coaches see different things in a player and they valve different aspects of the game.

This is the reason that some players flourish in new coaching situations.

It is also the reason that coaches get it wrong in their talent evaluation at the highest level.

I do not know the specifics of the evaluation but one should always analyze and dissect what a coach is saying about their daughter.

The first thing I would do is hire a 3rd party evaluator to take a look at your daughter. Hire someone with significant credentials. it will cost you no more than what you would pay for a private session. Have them look at her a couple of times. Do not share the original evaluation, let them come to their own assessment. You will be surprised at the differences of opinion that different coaches have on the same player.

Even within the same club, the coaches opinions will differ.

Coaches will often ask other coaches within the club, what they see in order to confirm their own opinion and that opinion can most certainly differ.

11:19 is correct in that you should heavily consider what coach is saying but as Ronald Reagan said " trust but verify"

You would not be doing right by your daughter if you did not go the extra mile.

Good luck to you.

Here is the article taken for u14 Blog.

Many examples of this; No coaches opinion is the gospel. even the very best get it wrong.

http://www.soccerwire.com/blog-posts/getting-it-right-why-talent-selection-doesnt-work-well-enough/#.UsNyVGcwiSs.aolmail

In 2010, that last boy picked, Simon Kjaer (pictured above), was a starting center back in Denmark’s first game of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa against the Netherlands. Since 2004, he has appeared 30 times for Denmark, and played club soccer for Palermo and Roma in Italy, Wolfsburg in Germany, and currently plays for Lille in France. Not too shabby for the kid no one wanted at age 15.

Six months after Simon Kjaer took the last roster spot at FC Midtjylland, the club director collected the eight staff coaches in a room, and handed them all a piece of paper. They were asked to list the five current players (out of 16 on the roster) most likely to advance the furthest in the next five years. The results were then sealed in an envelope and locked away.

Five years later, shortly after Kjaer was sold to Palermo for a tidy $6 million transfer fee, those results were opened. Not a single one of the highly qualified, UEFA “A” Licensed coaches even had Kjaer on his list!

I love this guy, it's too quiet, in other words, no one is putting down my daughters team, so I cannot exactly attack my old pals at MF, PDA, NJX, WCFC, AV/WC, CRUSH, ETC, ETC...

Relax 434, I was just commenting on the blog of late where the entire conversation for like an entire few days was about some dude being upset about his daughter's year-end evaluation & asking all us what he should do. If that excites you great, for me its pretty darn boring.

Anonymous said...

I guess Brazil is horrible since they lost 7-1 at home in the semi-final of a world cup.

Anonymous said...

7:11 here I think Germany should stop playing in future world cups, just like teams should stop playing in ECNL with all those blow out wins when they travel.

The World Cup is a joke just like ECNL is.

Just busting horns - Score lines like this happen at all levels, doesn't mean the event/league or team getting the beat downs stinks.

My daughter and I watched the game, at 3-0 it was over, everything else was a clinic on how to attack, and how NOT to defend.

Thanks BNMT.

P.S. There is NO crying in soccer.

Why are the NPL National flights lopsided? If every team doesn't play each other in each flight, how can that be a good way to see who is the best in the flight?

Anonymous said...

10:13 This is the new norm and I like it - Region 1 Championships did the same thing. For example you have two divisions of 3 teams (6 total teams). Each team plays the same opponents (the 3 in the other division) best team advances based on criteria. Love it.

Anonymous said...

10:56
You are talking about 6 teams playing. There are about 10 teams split into 2 flights. Different scenario pal. I know all about the way Regionala did it. Just seems awkward to me when everyone doesn't play each other in a flight or you crossover and play someone else in a flight. Just like how PDA made it to the finals. Shouldn't have made it but they won their flight playing weaker teams.
Just Saying

Should have been Sachem vs FSA in the final.

Anonymous said...

And the three teams did not play the same teams in the Regionals. Take a look my friend.
FSA played Sachem. Both from the same bracket.

Anonymous said...

And the three teams did not play the same teams in the Regionals. Take a look my friend.
FSA played Sachem. Both from the same bracket.

Anonymous said...

11:39 - not a different scenario?

It's actually 3 Flights.

Flight 1 has 4 teams playing 3 games.

Flight 2 plays all 3 teams from Flight 3

Flight 3 plays all 3 teams from Flight 2.

The Flights are probably grouped together as a 6 team flight.

This is Fair each team plays 3 games against the SAME teams.

Love it. Actually FSA and Sachem played the weaker flight. PDA played the harder teams to qualify. NO? Lets call it like it is, just saying.

11:40 FSA played Sachem in the Semi-Final - they both played the same 3 teams to qualify. Then the top 2 teams from each flight played each other to see who should advance to the championship. What's wrong with that?

PS. It looks like the MF question has been answered.

On a side note MF lost their first NPL final game today.today 4-3.

And all 3 teams from one of the 3 team flights won they might all go 3-0 so it will come down to goal differential and 1 team that went 3-0 might get eliminated. I hope that doesn't happen.

To me that would be very interesting JPS would be team 13 if you guy by rank strictly. Looking at the teams ahead of them it really would be sad if they were not in the top flight based on this list."

You lost me here. What do you mean by "looking at the teams ahead of them"? Those are all good teams ahead of them. I don't see any injustice here.

I get that you discount 8v8 results, but until you show me a team that primarily played 8v8, and then sucked at 11v11, then your reasons for discounting the 8v8 results aren't really backed up by the facts.

In fact, so far the little bit of data we have (3 teams) suggests that very good 8v8 teams are very good at 11v11 (Penn Fusion). And average teams at 8v8 are average at 11v11 (LVU and Hulmeville).

Knowing this, why would GotSoccer discount the 8v8 results if the goal is to have accurate flights?

Anonymous said...

Never said they weren't good teams, but what are we using to compare them? Results? Never said there was an injustice - but taking 8v8 teams that are not head and shoulders over a team that played 11v11 well you can call it what you want to me it would be interesting.

I think you are comparing apples to oranges. None of the other teams in the league JPS won appear in the list of teams we are discussing.

Harford, Nether (1776), and LVU have more losses and ties...because they were playing against each other, Penn Legacy and the Ukrainians. And FC Rev, who with their national rank of 82 are just ahead of JPS, too.

Anonymous said...

1:10 Really?? That post is for amusement I assume?

Anonymous said...

Matchfit 0-2 no surprise here.

Anonymous said...

Of course we are comparing apples to oranges teams that have played 8v8 vs a team that has played 11v11.

You are missing my point. JPS played LVU to a tie. I am assuming LVU used guest players in November (not sure if they did and if they are part of the team now. LVU looks to be even against Harford and 1776. SO my question is how can any of these 3 teams get a top flight over JPS - not sure it will happen - just talking out loud. Penn Legacy did okay in The Region 1 Colonial League, the Ukranians didn't do so hot at the Region 1 Championships playing teams outside of PA. 1776 has some questionable results looking at their GS history.

I know this is not the usual talk on this board.

PS. I don't hate 8v8 - I just think those teams will be at a disadvantage playing 11v11 for the first month or 2.

FC REVOLUTION FORCE does not look very strong to me - maybe they changed their team since the below results. They seem okay and are a top team in PAGS - not sure how strong PAGS is?

Yes. JPS tied LVU. And they'll both likely end up in the second flight together.

Nether/1776 is ranked 35 the US and Harford is 50. I just don't see how 86 ranked JPS knocks either of them out of the top 12.

Making the 69th ranked Ukrainians the last team in makes sense. They'll make four brackets of three teams each and put one PAE team in each bracket.

I don't know if LVU used guest players or B team players when they played JPS. I'm not sure why JPS gets kudos for tying LVU and Ukrainians get criticized for losing by 1 to the Bing, the top team in the group we are discussing. LVU is out of the top 12. I'm not even sure why they are part of this discussion. They got thumped 5-0 by Ukrainians and lost 6-4 to Penn Legacy. Their only good result was a 3-3 tie to Harford. And I gotta say, getting three goals by Harford's keeper something to celebrate. That kid is gooood.
