Right on 3:21. Have seen many clubs head into tourneys with one sub due to injuries and not take on guest players. And most of the time when it comes to injuries, its the faster more aggressive players that receive them and are out of action. So it gives every chance for the players that usually get less minutes, an opportunity to step up. Most guest players are not brought in to fill in minutes and play more if a club player gets injured, they are there to make a difference. Bringing in guest players is such a slap in the face to parents that bring their daughters to every practice and pay the same fee. It is the club telling that parent "thanks for the donation".
N ice breakthrough effort for Albertson, who I have been touting for a whileNY East owned the weekendGood show overall. Tip of the cap to the officiating, which was a non factor in games I witnessed
At what point is it ok for teams to bring in guest players.
It's always okay to bring guest players as long as they play less than the roster depth players. It's that simple if a player pays 1k+ there is no reason a player not on the roster should ever play more - it's that simple. The guest is helping a team rest their players nothing more.GS 4 Life
What if the guest is a difference maker and better than all on the field.
But we all know that guest players are never there to fill in minutes. Its a coach hoping to gain a player and to do that, you have to show that player you best side. But this doesn't just happen in soccer, it goes on in every travel sport. It is what it is.
Congrats to Albertson, must be nice to be in the NYE top 5 again, enjoy!
10:33 So, what does that have to do with anything? The player is not part of that TEAM - the player doesn't come to every practice or show up to every game do they? Did they pay a team tuition? So because they are unhappy in their current situation everyone needs to drop what they are doing at U14 like this tournament title is the end all be all. To funny. I say unhappy, because there is no other reason to play for another team than the one you signed on for.10:35 I agree and that's one of the many things wrong with youth soccer and travel sports.6:22 They were never out of it. Outside of EM, NYE doesn't have any really strong teams. Albertson & WC with EM were always your top 3, yes then you sprinkle in NYSC, ISA/Atletico & MSC to round out your top 5. Sorry, but NYE not very deep when you have zero teams from Brooklyn/Queens in your top 5. They have great boy programs (BWG, Metoval to name a few) with nothing for the girls. GS 4 Life
No "really strong teams"? As in what - top 25 nationally? How many would you expect there to be in NYE, GS4L?Albertson arrives yesterday and this is what you have to say?Idiocy.
Albertson arrives? What does that mean?
Just look at their head 2 head match ups - only reason you have many with mucho GS points are because of EDP and NYCSL awarding Fall/Spring GS points plus leaving points on after awarding Fall points to inflate Tournament values so their teams can get max points same goes for NJ. Honestly, PA teams are stronger they go to these tournaments and beat upon the NYE & NJ teams to get GS points the old fashion way they earn them. But this doesn't make them strong either. I think we have many good teams in these 3 states but only a few top tier teams. just my opinion.GS 4 Life
Your top 3 teams in each state - you can slot any number of teams in the 4 to 5 spots. When you look at NYE no other teams can make a claim to be top 3. No one said they should be replaced. Don't be so defensive.
who has Match Fit FC ECNL beat recently is worthwhile of stating that are top 3 in NJ? and exactly what team? there are at least 4 Match Fit teams on Got Soccer listings or doesn't it matter since they borrow girls from each team?
Sorry 10:18 if i came across as a tool :(I am a tool but wasn't trying to be one with my post.MF ECNL and EM are the two teams that control own destiny when it comes to ECNL playoffs - They tied EM and Boston in league play where the teams must win to advance to California. And since I am a shill in the opinions of some - I buy into them playing the roster depth players more at tournaments to see what they have - future core players or players that need to be replaced. GS 4 Life
Everyone plays their full roster at this level in all events. Your results are still your results for rankings purposes.Only a tool of MF would attempt to pick and choose which results mean more or less. When we start attempting to put more weight on this or that result we are now taking the rankings out of the objective category and injecting into them subjective individual bias. You are as good as your results at the current age level and recent results and head to head or order of finish in same event and especially same flight trumps all else in objective rankings. You can't start accepting coaches and parents coming on here and claiming they didn't "try". No way that flies here.
Agreed. And don't forget MF coach and parents came on here after last summers tryouts and made clear they had combined for U14 ECNL Team the best of both their Pre-ECNL returning team(keeping 10 of those players) and their NPL Team( taking 9 nine players from team that won U13 US Club State Cup in spring) and that their U14 roster was "loaded" and they would be a national power this year.Their are no development players on their bench, all were core players for those 2 strong teams last year. The problems on that team have nothing to do with talent or weak players on their bench, regardless of what the coaches or parents claim when they lose. How come Penn Fusion ECNL didn't lose? And isn't Bethesda facing the same conditions and future event preparation as MF? Yet they still managed to beat them head to head.
MF ECNL and NPL still have Holmdel players who were taken as a part of the agreement. Those players getting one year to prove they have it. Some of them are good-very good. Others are hardly NPL level and certainly not ECNL level. To MF it didn't matter as their money spends too.Next year, many of the Holmdel players will be out and some ECNL will go to NPL. A few will make ECNL. Not saying this is wrong. Just saying.
12:03 yes and no - everyone plays their full roster of 18 in all events at this age - I agree. What if the team has a roster of 24? 6 don't play correct? I would guess that the players that don't play in league games or don't get many minutes get an opportunity to play in these events. They play to win and their is no excuse if they don't I have always said that and always will not the tool you are looking for pal - if they are good enough for you to take their money then they are good enough to represent the team regardless of the result, this is why I don't like teams that use guest players. Again just my opinion. PS. If your kid played in a league that sends their champion to a national event you would get it. League games trump all for these teams and the teams that don't play in these leagues play State Cups for the same reason a shot at a National. 12:13 MF currently in control of their own destiny 4 points up on PDA and 6 on PF in ECNL league play. MF shows a roster of 21 and PF shows a roster of 18. PF has all it's players playing every event and every league game, MF needed to swap out 3 players again no excuses for what they couldn't do. Easy to call them out not so easy for the players that played and their spots in the pecking order.GS 4 Life
At first I thought GS 4 Life was being harsh in his claim that PA teams show stronger than NJ and NY teams in tournament play. But going back and checking results this fall, he is correct. But I think its simply a matter of there being so many clubs in NJ and NY, that it spreads the talent out more than it does in PA. How many awesome NJ and NY teams would there be if some of the smaller club teams joined forces with their larger neighbors? NJ probably has a larger percentage of high level soccer players at the U14 level, their just spread out among more teams.
12:50 I think it's the opposite in PA.You have 3 ECNL teams (PF, Bucks & Delco) and 1 NPL team LVU.In PA as a state they are USYSA and not US Club. This why they would rather play RCL then apply of NPL as a club. They believe in the every team controls their own destiny and ODP model of play. There is no love for the patch. If you had 3 to 4 core players not impact players from the below teams move over to the 4 clubs I mentioned - PA ECNL teams would be much stronger than NJ and NYE if the Long Island kids still believe their teams are better options than EM and Albertson and the NYSC/Quickstrike kids think they are in a better place than WC. The Nj teams are loaded with talent, this is why they can field 5 teams and beat most of the teams in their state.YARDLEY MAKEFIELD SOCCER YMS BANSHEES1776 UNITED FC XTREMEPENN LEGACY 01 BLACK F14UKRAINIAN NATIONALS BLASTERS BLACKHULMEVILLE SC DYNAMOPA CLASSICS ACADEMY 01HFC READY '01HMMS EAGLE FC 01 SPIRITPENN UNITED FORCE '01WYOMING VALLEY SC '01GIRLSRAGE SC '01 ATHLETICAFC REVOLUTION FORCEGS 4 Life
So the question is... are the Quickstrike players actually in a better place than being with WC?? And in PA, why would parents even consider sending their players to FC Bucks or Continental FC? And not just send them to PF?
How may NY teams play in the Super Y league?
What you are missing GS 4Life is that it is only the weakest players at the bottom of the 18 who are alternated with the 3 players who are just outside the 18 for each event. The starters and the strongest 4 or 5 subs dress every game unless injured, and everyone has injuries so that is irrelevent. Those players from 15-21 are pretty much interchangeable and which of those dress is a minor factor in the results. The core players on these ECNL Teams are the same for each event and they start and play most of each game. These clubs should stop throwing their bench players under the bus whenever they lose. If they are not good enough don't take them on the team. Everyone else makes do with whoever is healthy each game and lives with their results even when they have a short bench. I don't hear the ECNL coaches giving their wins back because they have the advantage of never playing short because of their expanded rosters. As with everything else there are advantages and disadvanteges to keeping more than 18 players. Just spare us the excuses.
If you think ECNL teams really care more or even the same as the league they play in, then why do that not play more Tourneys? Take a look at gotsoccer and the amount of games played by ECNL teams compared to other teams. the other clubs usually play double or more events.
I watched Albertson play yesterday, and I was elated. They looked awful, flat, uncreative and most of all unhappy to be playing in front of the most nasty bunch of malcontents I have ever seen, we left feeling awful for those poor girls. On the drive home, I asked my daughter about the team, and she summed it up perfectly, sucks being them, with a wry smile.
It's the game to practice Ration ECNL believes in. They practice and train more and do less games vs. those GS chasing teams. But you have to remember ECNL events are not on Gotsoccer example the most recent Phoenix event and PDA's tourney is now an ECNL event. So you add in 22-24 league games, plus 12-14 games at one of the big tourney's most ECNL teams choose 2 or 3 between the following (Bethesda, Jeff Cup, Newss, FC Stars, CASL), and at least 2 ECNL events which is another 12-14 games. That's about 48-52 games for a entire year if you compare it's almost equivalent to teams that join a tourney a month.
and yes I know they won 4-1 against MSC.
1:28 don't get your PA post. Why? I said core players on those teams - I didn't say impact players. PF seems a little ahead of the curve - where the core players on the teams I referenced will play immediately on Bucks and Delco and some will be impact players. So they would take teams from the bottom of the table and immediately compete with PF and the NJ teams. All you read on here is that Storm and MF ECNL are not that strong but both beat PF & WC.
When we played Albertson this season despite being down, the parents I heard were encouraging them with positive comments. They weren't as kind to the refs but to their players they were supportive. Their girls are fine.

But as I said PA is the Wild West anti-club -it's all about the individual teams Training Centers and ODP. They believe they don't need ECNL.I just look at the impact players on these teams are they better off staying away not having to fight for what is theirs or are they better fighting another player for minutes? I guess that depends on the kid.GS 4Life
Good breakdown of area and teams players that could be part of an ECNL program. That breakdown is why I think PF will become so strong as a U16 next year. And although Continental FC's U14 team is bad, their older groups are very good, so things could change for them as well. Especially if 1776's best four players move in that direction.
Okay then what do many of you think is better staying together on a strong team like PA Classics or NEFC and doing ODP and other ID programs or Joining a ECNL team and spending more $$$ with the travel that is required. I'm saying more $$$ for ECNL because of the traveling they do to such places out west like Phoenix and California. I think one blogger was correct there are not many or very minimum of the North East girls that end up playing College out West so why travel and what's the point. The ECNL was made up of Big University's to reduce coaching expense bottom line and for the parents to spend the $$$ more. Can someone find out for me if a head and assistant coaches are double dipping if they are at showcase events or tournaments to scout and also coach a ECNL club team? Are they being paid double think about that people.
Doesn't matter anyway Girls DA is coming soon? So ECNL will become 2nd fiddle just like Region 1/EDP/NPL became 2nd fiddle the last 5 years to ECNL. The 1st batch of clubs will be linked to clubs with Boys DA. In PA it's Union, PA Classics and Delco.NJ will have PDA, NJSA, Match Fit. It will most likely be announced next year.
2:49 i'll give you my 2 cents and then stop posting for a while. You can't compare NEFC to PAC. NEFC is NPL and will advance to the NPL finals every year unless Oakwood can catch them at this age. Last year They won the NPL Final and National Cup and have access to id2 via NPL. PAC plays PAGS and no disrespect to it - but not a top league as proven by teams opting to play in Bethesda rather than their playoffs. The travel is the same just different spots. ECNL travels to CA for playoffs NPL travels to CO for finals. ODP is for the players that were not invited to id2 or National Centers. The Impact player on NEFC isn't missing anything - you actually had a Breaker leave for NEFC according to this board. Where the Impact player on PAC is at a major disadvantage. Not only do they play their league games vs lesser opponents they also play ODP vs lesser opponents so if they are a standout they will stick out like a rock star, but the question is what would that player be if they played on an ECNL playing PDA, MF, EM, Boston FC & Stars to name a few twice a year if they were selected to id2 playing against all the impact players from the ECNL and NPL teams?PS. Why would we care if a coach gets paid twice - good for them. Just for the record some of the college coaches at least year's PDA ECNL tournament, so if your team can get into an even like this - then you are in the right place regardless of what any of us believe. NEFC!We tied them at National Cup 0-0, so we must be just as good as them, no??So what if they never lose, losing occasionally builds character, look at me, perfect example. That Breaker player (Forward) you mention is good, but we shut her down, oh yeah, come get some!!I’m out, yo.
I do see the point as to traveling out west, I understand for a Championship level play like NPL Finals but for regular showcasing that ECNL does I agree it's only a small % of girls from the Northeast that end up playing out West. 312 GS 4 Life I think you use that name to cover up yourself since you are in the ECNL bubble? I sit true?Is anyone's daughter playing up at U15 at CASL this coming weekend, I see a lot of teams and universities there as well. I wasn't going to post again but since you asked me a question - I have been just tied NJ Crush, NJCSA and an ECNL shill in the past 2 days by using GS 4 life. I'll be who you want me to be - my post are straight up giving you my opinion or just posting results. Obviously I can only be with one or with none of the above? In my continuing effort to keep everyone informed of Colleges of Interest, or more importantly, the ones that may be interested in Region One Players. Below is the schools that were listed in earlier post as schools being at a major tournament.1. University of Southern CaliforniaSenior Keeper Faith Sugerman out of West Morris Mendham HSMidfielder Amanda Rooney out of Hicksville NY (great town name)2. University of Wisconsin MadisonMidfielder Marisa Kresge of Severn Maryland3. University of Missouri NONE4. Colorado StateNONE5. Washington StateNONe6. University of Miami (Seems to only like players 5'5" or bigger)This is a school that likes Region One Players with five of them on their roster. Great website too.1. Caitlin Fryer- The freshman forward played first for Albertson in 2013, then switched to World Class in 2014. 2. Erin McGovern- The senior from Oradell NJ played for that dynamo Montclair Thunder and has parlayed that into four years at Miami3. Danielle Savage- This sophmore out of Elizabethtown PA had led LDC United to three straight Pags playoff titles before joining Miami. 4. Camille Kelton- This freshman is another Albertson product out of Holtwood NY. That's two freshmen on this team that had played for Albertson.5. Nicolla Venizia- Seven years of being loyal to Farmingdale United payed off for this girl. Not sure how many players stay loyal to a club for that long. So out of six school, there were eight Region One players, five from one school. As usual, any school west of the Mississippi is littered with players from Texas and California. And once again, many international players on these rosters. Do schools receive a certain number of scholarships for international players?
How many of thos schools are in the final four?
That's not the point 6:53. Follow along closely now.....Those are the schools that GS 4 Life listed as coming to a major tournament. Those are the schools that GS 4 Life listed as coming to a major tournament. There, I printed it twice so even so you could understand it. But don't worry, at least your daughter will be able to understand. Especially after she graduates from the University of Delaware (with honors). Only a total moron would downgrade those amazing eight girls playing for those schools into "those schools are not even in the final four". I do feel bad for your family having to be a known associate of a dumb ass like you. Kids must always make sure they go to the friends house in order to not be embarrassed.
1:28 "And in PA, why would parents even consider sending their players to FC Bucks or Continental FC? And not just send them to PF?"Commute, coaches, teammates, facilities, playing time, personality of the team, will the coaches let you play other sports at U13 and U14?, etc. And I'll throw one more out there sort of tongue and check... if you are a goalie or defender, you may get the ball a whole lot more. There are a number of reasons that should be considered when choosing what team to play for. Its not just wins and loses. Playing on any ECNL team in the Northeast will get you plenty of opportunities to be scouted.
8:59 You make an excellent point. And as a defensive player on those teams you certainly would get to show your skill set. So what are the attacking mids or strikers getting to show at the ECNL level in showcases? I think its really the U14 teams for those clubs that are really bad. I know Continental's U15 team has really skilled players on it. I think if Continental could get the core girls from 1776, they would at least become respectable. But with the change coming in spring, they might be anyway. So why is the poster putting down those eight girls playing for a major schools? I would have no problem with my daughter playing for them, but maybe I'm in the minority on that. USC, Miami, Washington, Mizzu and Colorado State, Not good enough? Really???
9:15 While scoring is important as that is how a result is gained. In my opinion Midfielders showcase their talents by being able1. First Touch2. Keep the ball3. Speed of play (knowing when not to dribble)4. Seeing the play (not passing back into pressure - creating an attack)5. How hard they work to get the ball back after they turn it over6. Thanks GS 4 Life,Great list of mandatory skills for premier players, the best of the best should master ALL of those skills.Got a question, my daughter plays the number 6, holding-midfield, can you give me your opinion about what skills she shouldConcentrate on, that are position specific.
9:09I think he failed to mention a very important skill of a midfielder - distributing the ball at proper time and to proper space with the proper pace.Dont thank meENDURANCE also a key, of course. WILLINGNESS to run as well as ability to not tire quickly
GS 4 Life That's a good list, but we played Continental FC and the ball never crossed midfield into their offensive end. The attacking mids became the backing mids and their striker touched the ball twice at the most. My line of thinking is not whether or not these girls will get looks from coaches, its just that they are getting basically the same amount of play as the players on the bench. FC Bucks even worse. Practice time is great, but you have to play the game. These offensive players are learning nothing about playing forward correctly. They are under so much pressure defensively, all they want to do is clear the ball. Unfortunately, the opposing teams defenders are sitting at midfield and bringing it right back in. I believe in the ECNL program, but these teams should not have that label.
GS 4 Life what about GKs? What do you feel the talents are that they should showcase other then stopping the ball?
9:22 thought I covered that?2. Keep the ball4. Seeing the play (not passing back into pressure - creating an attack)7. Keep the ball11. Keep the ballisn't the above what you are talking about - in other words don't pass the ball when no one is making a run. I agree I should have included the proper weight on a pass but playing fast and under pressure comes down to the target's first touch and being able to handle anything thrown at her so sometimes the midfielder doesn't have time but to blast the ball at the target.I didn't include endurance since all the players at this level should have that already. But you are right - of course size and speed also help stick out what you do after that can quickly remove a player or add the player to the conversation.9:23 - maybe your team is that much better than they are - sometimes you play a team that has your number and matches up well - nothing you can do but try to survive and continue playing until you can handle the speed of paly. As a team they need to play under pressure and since they will make mistakes they will get punished. I don't see the high goals against as a negative if they are still trying to connect passes, eventually they will get better.9:09 that's above my pay grade as a parent - I would just say no worries about not scoring and not getting any assists and not hearing your name mentioned. Play hard and KEEP the ball more times than not a good attack starts with the holding mid.GS 4 Life
923 Again don't base everything on one single team the ECNL label is meant for the entire club so a club may have a bad U16 team but there U14,15,17,18 teams could be good. With this year shift many will see a change in teams anyway.
9:51 1. Communication2. Great foot skills3. Seeing the play - knowing when to get rid of the ball quickly and when not to.4. great reflex5. I hate putting this one down (height) unless the player has great ups.Forgot one thing for the field players. NO THE GAME - there is a time when the clock is not your friend and you need to play fast.GS 4 life
Bucks is blowing apart. their one decent team the 16s lost their best players to NJ ECNL. They will likely struggle this year too. Only a matter of time.
GS 4 Life thanks for your input. Always interesting to see what others think players need skill wise.
I think the coming birth year change (BYC for now on) will be make FC Bucks a distant memory. Can't proclaim you have great coaching when almost all your teams are in the bottom, even at the older age levels. I think this will the BYC will actually help CFC though.
BYC will put current older U14s with the younger U15s to forma new U16 (in conjunction of course with any new kids trying out)Tough to say what this means for many clubs unless you microanalyze it and know who from the outside is trying out and who from current club might be trying out elsewhere. How has Manhattan at U14 gotten stronger? An influx of players is part of it (coaching switch as well) . And this went unreported. In other words - you know much less than you think about next year.
I actually might in the minority here but I think the BYC will help the smaller clubs. The smaller clubs with less girls will not follow the rule as strictly as the larger clubs. No one wants to see girls ( money) leave their club but the larger clubs can replace players. If 5 girls want to keep playing on their old team or with classmates at NYSC or PL or Wildcats is the club going to follow the rules? Will the club let those girls leave for a team that will allow them to play up with their grade or just let them stay on the team they are on? You can always allow girls to play up by saying they need the competition.
Being able to play up is a silly reason to leaveClubs will listen if you really have a good case. How many clubs have a strict no play up policy, I wonder. PDA, I believe. Anyone else?
I am not even saying the person has a good case to play up other then wanting to stay on the same team and play with the same girls. Playing with the same friends you have been for the last 3,4, or 5 yrs means a lot to girls.
11:16 You make a good argument for smaller club teams staying together and it could be a possibility. But so many things have to fall right for it to happen.1. Parents of the 02's that are impact players must want their daughters to play up.2. Coach of the team from smaller club (already doing his best to compete), must now compete with same group of players, and now go up against larger clubs using a straight line of 01 players. 3. The club must actually care about keeping the team together and care about the parents input. I saved this for last because you have to ask yourself, does the club actually care whether this team is succeeds or not.Or does it only see the dollar they may gain by splitting the age groups up and keeping more players per age group? Those bottom players that have not been able to make the "B" team, may not actually have a place.
Correction on post 1:15I meant to say "players may actually now have a place".
A lot of parents of 02's do want their D's playing up. that wold keep them with a lot of girls in their same grade and friends. I think it will be interesting to see what ever club decides to do with this rule. Like any rule there are ways around it. It could be something that some clubs just have to do to field a team. If you look at the bigger Clubs, ECNL teams. most every U14 team is half 01 and half 02's. The older teams are the same way, split in half by birth years. It might come down to the oldest team.If that team wants to stay together then it might trickle down the line.
PF is the exception to that. Mostly 01's and maybe one offensive player who is an 02 that might play up. Not sure about FC Bucks or Continental, but even their 01's have no players that make you take notice.
I sort of assumed that most of the discontent with the BYC (love that acronym) would be with the Aug-Dec players who would be worried about being pushed off of the A team when they suddenly had to play with older players. But in my experience most complaints have come from the parents of Jan-Jul starters who will be forced to play with younger players.
At least those players will not have to repeat their U15 year. I have heard all of the reasons behind the need for the BYC to be installed right away, but still would have rather seen in brought in from the younger levels.
2:05 - they will not be forced to play with younger players. they will play with the same Birth year players. They might play with girls a grade younger in HS. So Jr in HS will have Soph teammates, instead of a team mostly made up of Jr's ( if they would let it go)3:31 - I agree I would have rather the new BYR get inforced at u12 or u13 age groups and let the older groups go.
There is a possibility that they leave the HS age groups out of the new rule. It only makes sense. This new rule affects a lot of NJ club teams. If your not an academy it is very difficult for 95% of the teams in NJ not to have to play up at U16.

Looks like the brackets are fairly well balanced. 1776 will romp through their bracket though.
As my daughter once innocently asked me, do they always have to do that?“Why NO honey, the defender does not always have to boot the ball as far as she can, every time, or even without pressure.”
No thanks 8:30, keep your little bundle of appreciation, I prefer coal in my stockings.Happy Holidays!
I have no idea what teams you are watching, 9:04Are you in Northern Counties or something? No U14 team I have seen this year plays that way with their defenders. That covers more than 20 different opponents.CREDIT this day to all trainers at this level working hard teaching our girls. Yes, they get paid - try not to hold that against them.
9:03 - What's your basis for a 1776 romp in RCL? Since August, 1776 is 1-1-1 with a -1 goal differential against its bracket competition, with a 1-0 win over Harford, a 2-2 draw with HMMS. and a 1-3 loss to Braddock Road. It does not appear that 1776 has an advantage.
BRYC and South Shore are the obvious favorites in their brackets. HMMS and 1776 have the next best chance in South, but can't count Century out since they won it somehow last year. In the North, I'd pick Binghamton second, assuming they actually show up to all of their games.
Every top, team in nj except pda just kicks the ball as far as they can from the back. They do not play it out of the back. Kick and hope, not kick and run. Hoping their striker is faster than the defenders. That's why nj can't win outside of nj and they can't score outside on nj. Teams outside of nj build up the attack and take on defenders 1v1.
I guess 9:59 you failed to watch PDA Ajax play at Bethesda Tournament or PDA Dragons in any game this seaason. What a bunch of crap. You lie!
I have been reading these posts. If a player doesn't play ECNL or NPL what are the best options to get on a college coach radar? Is the path ID camps and ODP? Thanks
10:14Another person just wanting to jump on someone. If you read it, ithe is called reading comprehension. It stated except pda. I hope your job does not involve detail.
9:59 needs to be banned.Just unproductivve gibberish. Moderators, get on this, please.
11:01YesAnd letters. And video. And invitations to see your daughter play (send schedule of key games). And followups. But you should first have an idea what school she may be interested in. You dont want to send this to 100, or 50, or even 20 coaches.
No 11:15 you need to brush up on your reading comprehension, or lack therof. My point inpost 10:14 was Ajax and Dragons, ARE PDA, and they do not play from the back and can't string more than 2 passes tegether and punch the ball directly upfield. Sorry for assuming you would figure that out without a follow the dots instruction manual.
Unfortunately 9:59 is correct in his description of many teams.
9:53 GB second??? Where have they shown the ability to do that this fall? I like your south picks, although not sure if HMMS will do better than fourth. If GB can play every game at home, then they would have a chance to finish second. Other than SS, should be some evenly matched games. SS did beat PL 3-2 last time and could be much worse with the players PL they lost to PF.
9:59, 10:14, 12:39 & 11:15 why is that? You guys have watched them play why do you think they can't play out of the back? What are reasons a team can't play out of the back in your opinion? 11:01 are you talking about the random college coach that just shows up to an event? If not 12:22 speaks the truth - just remember a school might be looking for only a few players and they probably have hundreds attending their ID clinics - the players needs to knock their socks off before they come watch them play a game if they ever do.Since I've been called a shill many times let me play the part.68 ECNL Alums after only six years of ECNL soccer (currently 79 clubs nationally) Duke – 20 ECNL AlumsFlorida State – 5 ECNL AlumsPenn State – 18 ECNL AlumsRutgers – 25 ECNL Alums213 ECNL alumni are currently playing in the SEC – more than 56%228 ECNL alumni are currently playing in the ACC - nearly 65%224 ECNL alumni are currently playing in the Pac-12 - nearly 67%223 ECNL alumni are currently playing in the Big 10 - nearly 58%let's not for get the UEFA players - Pass4Soccer, for example, estimate that 15% of their students get full scholarships - meaning the college pays all of the student's fees and living costs.Sports Recruiting USA say their students, on average, get 90% scholarships - leaving students to pay just 10%.Europe investing more in womens soccer impacts our kids very much.GS 4 Life
1:37, you're right, Penn Legacy should finish second up North. I was thinking that it was their B team was doing Region 1. I'm not a fan of GB but still think they'll likely finish 3rd.
GS 4 Life: I read the same interesting article - Just curious you claim you a GS guy but past a lot of things about ECNL on here in which ECNL clubs can care less about GS. Are you just covering up. lolLet's see if the school will less ECNL Alums win's it all again! Vegas lines say they do. lol
The gotsoccer-ECNL relationship is a tricky oneI wouldnt say ECNL teams dont care about gotsoccer. After all what happens on GS can affect ECNL rosters.ECNL just have to live with whatever GS says their policies are. Sometimes it matters, sometimes not.
If they didnt care at all I'd think they teams wouldnt be LISTED at all. GS is useful - ECNL knows it. Their care/not care of point levels aside.
I like GS 4 Life's stats regarding percentages for ECNL players in college programs. It also tells of conferences we should be looking at when it comes to tournament play and ID camps. It shows schools that have a proven track record of recruiting east coast players. I think the Disney Tournament might be the single most worthwhile tournament for teams to attend and have a real chance of their players being looked at.
Just to be clear I love gotsoccer for how I use it and would love it even more if they normalized it somehow.I don't think the number 1 team should be a team that has 11 events in the annual their annual score. However, that doesn't make them a bad team if they place in 11 events. Teams are involved in different leagues and might not have the time to do 11 events, I don't think these teams should have that held against them. Also, bad team management (multiple accounts also skews the numbers). Look at FSA when they merged a few years back - they gave their best GS account (blue) to their C team and created a new GS account for their NPL (white) team. Everything got thrown out of whack for that - PDA & EM ECNL teams have 2 accounts and they probably don't even know they do. EDP league has Fall/Spring/Fall making their teams a little better than what they really are when it comes to the rankings. Look at the NPLs NYCSL/New England NPL have their season split into Fall/Spring when it comes to gotsoccer points, while Northeast NPL has it done manually by gotsoccer and Virginia NPL doesn't - there are so many ways to take advantage of the tool. Good tool but not perfect.ECNL is at the top of the girls youth soccer pyramid currently - If USSF comes up with a Girls DA then I will pump them up as the best league - just how it is.GS4 Life

FSA ECNL 01 beat South Shore?
Did World Class use to be a decent team at one time?
FSA over South ShoreYes, it happenedAnd it was South Shore's only loss in 24 games since AugustDeserving #1 team in region, if not nation (where they are ranked #1 by GS)
Yeah, we played both at Stars Cup, and FSA was the better team, SSS are big and fast, not very technical, and personally we should of beat FSA, but we choked, we have had that type of season. Just for the record, we lost 3-1, not 4-1, the ref. hated us because we are from NY, and gave them an extra goal in spite.
10:03 Did WC beat anyone in league play beside the bad teams below them?
South Shore one of those "unpretty" teams that just beats you, eh?Lots of them at every level of soccer. But you'll do well in pageants, NYSC
My daughter's team also played SSS and lost , but the game was well played on both sides and we really didn't think the final score reflected the way the whole game went. SSS is good, but they also find a way to win even when they play not as good.
NEFC ELITE U14 GIRLS played in 9 events and have not lost a game this season. So they have 7k points less than SSS, Oh yeah they also beat the same FSA team that beat SSS 3-2 by a whopping 7-1. So how exactly is SSS "deserving #1 team in region". if you look at common opponents NEFC clearly the number 1 team in the region. AND let'snot forget FC VIRGINIA ECNL 01 they played in only 3 GS events and have only 16k point less, how did SSS jump them? Oh yeah they racked up the GS events and FCV stopped playing in them. More quality wins for South Shore, but its close.
Wow just watched tape of final four semifinals and those games were wars, especially Duke FSU, very physical, strong heading, fierce tackling. Not for the feint of heart that is for sure.Tall, fast, strong long legged thoroughbreds all over the field.Amazing pace all over the field in Duke vs FSU game.Very few small, crafty players stepped on field, very few indeed.Better eat your Wheaties girls if you want to play in the big time!
We watched the games as well, and my daughter was horrified at the quality of soccer played. Bad passing, lousy marking, and brutal fouls! Is this the best our country can do? It's also ironic that one of the best players we saw was an amputee, at least she tried to create. Watching those games tells me that American female soccer needs more skilled players, not rugby players who kick a bal around.
7:25 - I am sorry I didn't watch the same game as you. There was a ton of skill out on the field. There was ball control and good passing. There was also great defense that sometimes stopped some of those passes. Duke sat back and tried to counter. That worked fir them. the speed of play was fast, very fast. So sometimes at that speed and for what they were playing for the fouls could seem harsh The 1st game PSU made Rutgers ( PDA) chase the ball like a dog does. PSU passed around Rutgers with easeDuke will sit back against PSU and try to counter just like they did against FL ST. PSU should win but thus us soccer Maybe you should watch the D2/3 semis or finals. The game is played much slower and the girls are smaller. The passing is still bad and the fouls seemed just as hard. In a D3 final a girl got knocked down so hard either dislocated or broke her collar bone
12:10 here. I agree 7:53 there was also a good bit of skill on those teams.I never said there wasn't skill. My point was there were very very few small crafty players who got by on skill and guile alone. If you weren't tall, strong and fast or at least strong and powerfully built and very very fast there was no way you were going to excel in that game. There were a number of world class athletes on the field in that 2nd game and if you didn't have size, strength and pace they were running over you or by you.As I said better eat your Wheaties girls if you want to play in the big time. I beleive Duke will surprise PSU. Both teams impressive though.
World class athlete = non-creative brute
Look not sure what game you watched and what you expectred#10 Toni Payne M/F (5-4) was the best player on the field (she scored final goal).FS was the better team and Duke wanted to win-the only way they had a shot was to drop 10 players of defense since they had a 1-0 lead very hard to break down and not pretty soccer. But, FS still moved the ball around quality passing just couldn't score. PennState much better passing team connected a high % while Rutgers played very negative, I saw so many players making a run and not getting the ball and so many balls played when players weren't making a run by Rutgers they gave the ball away with no pressure on them one to many times.
11:11i agree with you. best players on the field for duke vs FSU were 5.5 and under. And they were skilled with heart. don't know where tall strong comment is coming from.Soccer Nut
College soccer is a very different game the true athletes flourish and have high game IQ and game speed. Many of those players are crafty but the craftiness and flare we see now at the youth ages fades away due to strong and athletic opponents they face that are hungry for that ball. Look these college player types of player put the WNT on the map with Gold Medals and World Cups so to me they must be doing something correct. Like someone told me before if you where a college coach what would you rather have: Strong, Fast, Tall Athletic players that are smart on/off the ball and pass quickly after 1st/2nd touch or a bunch average size players of kids that have flare and stand out with a creative move when they touch ball.
I know everyone here is cheering for the small crafty players that dominate the field. But unfortunately Duke only carries 6 players under 5'6" and 2 are out with injuries and one did not play. So where you where seeing all this smaller players dominate, I'm not sure. My daughter is 5'4, so I'm all for the smaller girl theory, but D1 school rosters are dominated by bigger faster girls 5'6 and up.
7:25am: I am horrified that you are passing your genes on to another generation. There was plenty of skill displayed in that game.FSU #16 Carson Pickett is not an amputee. She was born without a left hand.FSU #6 Megan Campbell (from IRELAND) knocked down a Duke player with her shoulder and injured her. I agreed with the announcer that it appeared to be an unnecessary bump, but it was not a rugby tackle.
I stand corrected as far as Penn State is concerned. They have lots of girls rostered between 5'4 and 5'7. As Rutgers stay home and accepts a majority of NJ girls, PSU does the same and carries many PA players.
11:37 - the d2 and d3 games are getting played today. They will be streamed live off the NCAA site. Watch them I am sure you will see plenty of girls 5' 5" and under with skill
I agree. Even when you watch the mens college game, the D3 schools tend to play more of a possession soccer game (albeit again, smaller players). We try to watch quite a few women's college matches on TV, and find that many of them are hard to watch. I guess from the coaches point of view, if you have superior athletes up front, your going to take advantage of having them. Coaching at that level is about wins and if two or three breakaways a game gets you those wins, why would a coach change?
The average height of DIII Messiah College, the other Central Pennsylvania college playing a NCAA championship weekend, is 5-5. Unfortunately, Messiah lost the semifinal to Washington University in PKs.
As stated the player under 5'6" had world class speed, she did not excel based on ball skills and craftiness alone. And the other wing for Duke was a long strider who had to be 5'8" or taller and was making 60 and 70 yard dribble runs that relieved the constant ressure on Duke in their own end. Duke was sucessful staying back and countering becuse they had these really fast players who could break out and get dangerous on their own.FSU had tall strong players all over the field, and yes they had skill as well.No one is saying the tall players aren't skilled, just that they are tall, strong and fast AND skilled. So it is very difficult for a smaller player say 5'4" or smaller who is not blessed with great pace to compete regardless of skill level in the upper tier of the D1 womens college game.
There r 328 d1 women's soccer teams. We r talking about the top teams. The teams that get the top players. I bet there r more girls under 5'5" then over playing d1 soccer
Not many on the top teams
Average height of Penn State is slightly under 5'6", so not that much different from its regional neighbor, D3 Messiah at 5'5".
While Penn State and West Virginia may have an average height of 5'6. Looking at some other top ten schools tells a different story. Virginia carries 14 players 5'7 or better, they have no players under 5'5". Same story with FSU, carrying 11 player 5'7" or better and none under 5'6". Moving westward. Notre Dame has 12 players 5'7" or better and only four under 5'6"Stanford with 12 and Miami with 15 players 5'7" or more (Virginia with 13). So yes there are players out there on D1 programs under 5'5", but they have to be extremely skilled and fast to compete with the bigger athletes with longer strides. Smaller players usually do have an advantage with a more explosive first step and quicker cuts in confined space.
Do they measure height with cleats on?
You better hope so. If your daughter was on the smaller side, say 5'3", would you look at a college with a coach that showed no affinity for girls under 5'5"? Its always a thing to joke about until it becomes reality. But we still have time and the girls are still growing (I hope)
You might want to look at the heights of the national team players from u18 up. These players are a cut above the college d1 players and their height makes your argument moot. Talent is never measured by just height Even in basketball where height really matters. The differential is much greater.
Stop it already - you guys talk like the only thing these girls had was height. They are good players with skill and if all things were considered equal the bigger girl always win. I agree with that. We are talking the top soccer programs they don't take girls with zero skill just because they are big and can run fast.Player A is 5'8"with good skill will always get picked ahead of player B with the same skill that is 5'5". However, player B will always get picked ahead player C who has height but is a project when it comes to skill. But player C will always get picked ahead of player D who has the same skill as player C. the one thing they all have in common is that they are athletic type players some are faster than others and some are taller than others.
10:08My only question to you is: If there are so many different relative sizes in basketball - say 6:1 to 7.7.where height is certainly more of an asset.why can there not be different height variations in women soccer where the ball is played on the ground.Say 5:2 to 5;8It is not about height when the ball is played on the ground. It is about speed of play, fast decision making, skill and strength( which has nothing to do with height.I will take a fast 5'5 player at 135 pounds of muscle over a 5' 8 120 pounder any day of the week. But the truth of the matter is that its about the player not about the height.unless you are a goalie or a future Abbey Wambach whose arial game is a tremendous advantage over everyone. FSU had no answer for the speedy and technical 5:4 player who set up the first goal with a tremendous pass through several defenders and a closing second goal to make the game 2-0.She was giving the big tall tough technical FSU players fits all day. So much so That the tall FSU defender thew a vicious shoulder charge to impede her progress. So i am with the others . All things being equal, give me some height, but all things aren never equal and therefore it's the player and individual talent that determines greatness.Further if i gave you this little choice of ingredients and told you you that could choose 4 from the group to make your daughter a better soccer player. Which 4 would you choose. Assume all players are 5:4 in height to start with.a) Tremendous skillb) an extra 5 inches in heightc) great strength D) extra speed and quicknesse) incredible heart For me, it would be tremendous skill followed by speed and quickness, heart and strength.Height would not even be a consideration for the sport of soccer. So I guess we disagreeSoccer Nut
What if Player A who is 5'9" has a dad that's a douchebag? But has a really hot mom that secretly likes player B's mom, who daughter is 5'3". But she happens to be the ex-girlfriend of the college coach before she started coaching in college. Does the coach take player A or B?
@11:00 Tell me more about player B's mom
Thank you, 11:00. Best. Post. Evah.
forgot to mention that Player B's mom is into exhibition and still has pictures from college coach, who we will call the big O. Unfortunately Crazed 1776 mom caught the two of them together and beat them senseless with her chain wallet. Citing that there will only be one man in her life and she's it.
Then I am going with the taller kid (Player A) with this scenario.
All this talk about "small and crafty" or "tall and strong" girls misses the point (and can start to sound a bit creepy). It also mirrors the false debate of technical skill vs athleticism. Hey, clue time, it is both. We get way to stuck on a certain type of player or a particular way to play and this can often get in the way of genuine player development. If I was the Emperor of American Soccer I would prefer as big a pool of potential players to choose from as possible. Too often it seems the organizations and programs put in place are there to narrow the field.
Bottom line if you are small and slight, without difference making pace and quickness, forget playing at that level. If you are small and have jet quicks and pace, strength and grit, along with outstanding skill, there is a place for you.
First of all anyone who has played a sport past high school knows very school adds at least 1 inch to every player. At least 1 some maybe 2 inches. Now do your math and that is a fact
If want to compete, you need height and size, Just look at messi.
Messi is the exception, I do agree they do tend to falsify the true height at the collegiate level by adding 1 to 1.5 inches to profiles. Look Megan Klinenberg is 5'2 on the WNT. Sometimes schools recruit based on need. If they need a tall quick forward they will look for that if they need a strong, skillful mid-fielder with great passing vision then height may not need be a factor in their search. Remember a player with a lot heart will always find a way.
I think its also an issue with the position you play. My daughter plays holding-mid. and to be successful, really successful at the position, you really need both size/strength/toughness, fitness and skill. I lump the first 3 together because I think they are the holy trinity of the #6 spot. The skill and fitness part is what separates her from other girls who are playing the same position. On our team, the #6 is always charged with being the first attacker, and the first defender, its a spot for the best overall player on any given team. She loves playing the position, and she is the best player I have seen at the #6 this season.
Messi at 5'7" brings other things to the table than Zlatan Ibrahimovic at 6'5". Guess what, I would take both of them. Add Neymar at 5'9" and Neven Subotić at 6'4" and then we are really talking.
If you say so 9:56 lol
9:56All the other girls should just sit the bench! Sounds like your daughter can handle it all and Im sure you're not biased at all.
9:56 brings up a good point. Its what a coach wants at that position and often his formations will also dictate that. D1 coaches get to pick the cream of the crop, so all the players, big or small are extremely talented.
10:03 Neven Subotić at 6'4" is an interesting one. He was part of our youth NT system at U17 and then wasn't selected, what? How do you miss that one? So he went and played for Serbia's NT.
Stop comapring the mens professional game at the highest international level with womens college game at D1 level. They are 2 completely different things. Yes there are some examples of very small lightning quick and sublimely skilled men at 5'6" and even smaller. While those are the exeptions we need to keep in mind the comparision is not apples to apples as the womens D1 college game is not close to being the same sport the men play at the international level. It is a completely different game technically and tactically and coaches are neither building their rosters nor playing tactically the same way.
12:00 it's the SAME GAME - difference is culture. Besides myself and maybe a few others who's watching the final right now? My bet is more are wating their NFL pre-game shows. It looks like a soccer game to me. Also very shocked how much respect PSU is giving Duke. They better watch out because Duke is like the Italians of old score 1 and the game is over
That's funny. Here I thought the Italians and French just throw there arms up and surrender when it gets tough.
12:21 you my friend are not a soccer guy, you think the Italians are not tough that they are soft HA - that is a great one. Sebastian Giovinco showed what a 28 year old 5′ 5″ Italian can do in the MLS.

Gee 1:26 Sounds like you have posters all over your room of your favorite men's soccer players. Sorry you thought I was making a reference to soccer? I was talking about World War Two and how the Italians and French both threw their arms up and surrendered to whatever invading country came their way. They would both make great NFL referee's signaling touchdown. And can we stop with the mens soccer comparison? I'm sure there's a blog for that somewhere.
The only positions I care about height are center forward and center back. Speed skill is the game and the only way you get that is a tremendous amount of work. Most kids just don't put in the time, and it's generally no fault of their own. Our pay to play culture is slowing development.
Ok, let's look at the US WNT (to humor 6:28). Shortest player: 5'1". Tallest appears to be 6'0". Most players (but not all) are over 5'5".

On the PA side. Tells you all you need to know about GS points when PF's NPL team is ranked higher than its ECNL team. YMS on top is kind of humorous also.Wonder if PA Classics would have finished on top if they had finished the PAGS season?
Two of my former wives are over 5'8" and I can tell you they can't play soccer worth a damn, but they know all about possession. So height doesn't mean a whole lot.
My daughter is quite tall.I hope the general consensus ends up being that height is critical for success.

9:35, Hahahaha, good one! I feel your pain, guess you had a hard time scoring??
scoring wasn't so much an issue, just keep finding another ball in the net that wasn't mine.
Ouch, well you know when they say its not you, its me? Sometimes it really is.
9:09. You just put Dr. Phildiculous out of business.
To expand on 11:14's comment, teams from "flyover country" have a hard time finding difficult competition through which to acquire GS points, but that does not mean that they are not good teams. Omaha FC's U13G team traveled east to specifically play top level teams and won WAGS. As Omaha self reports:"The Omaha FC U13 Girls team traveled to Washington DC in October and competed in the top flight at their age group of the Washington Area Girls Soccer tournament (WAGS). The team played against top level competition from Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas. Omaha FC 02/03 Elite went 2-0-1 (NY Rush Grey was the draw) in pool play and advanced to the semi finals scoring 9 goals while defensively shutting out all three teams. In the semifinals OFC defeated the 7th ranked team in the country from Pennsylvania (HMMS) 2-0 and then defeated the number 1 ranked team in the nation from Texas (Solar Chelsea) 2-1 to take home the championship. In total, OFC 02/03 Elite kept their opponents scoreless for 293 consecutive minutes and only surrendered one goal for the entire event. This was the first WAGS top level championship by a team from the State of Nebraska. Congratulations to Omaha FC 02/03 Elite on this incredible result."GS U13G rankings have changed since Omaha published the summary on its website. Omaha is currently ranked 48th. NJ Rush Blue sits on top. Solar Chelsea has slipped to 2nd. Pipeline has surged to 3rd. HMMS has struggled, but holds on to 4th. and Colorado Rush holds 5th.The question becomes, are the "flyover" girls not given a first look by colleges because they are not part of a large metro area ECNL club? Maybe if I'm a college coach looking for hidden talent, I go to the Midwest and recruit some corn fed girls. They might grow to be both tall and have skills.
932: Seriously why bring in the conversation of a U13 team from Omaha it's U13 girls come U15 it's a whole different game nobody is looking at recruiting a 12 year old girl. As you may or may not know many of "Flyover Teams" teams that travel the distance at the younger ages have multiple guess players coming with them and there out here to WIN bottom line and collect GS Pts. At U13 they don't travel this far to try to get a 12 year old recruited they are chasing standings. Look at U14 it's a transition stage and getting prepared for showcasing at U15. How many of your U14 teams now that were talked about highly on GS and bragged about being Top 5 in the country this time last year are still there. For example NJ Wildcats is a very good team taunted for being Ranked #1 numerous times where are they now again they are still strong. So I'm assuming your a 02 parent playing U13 right now and still do not see the big picture.
09:50 - You completely miss the point and the big picture, which is not age, but performance/ability as compared to GS ranking. A commenter above compared a U14 Omaha team's NPL performance to its GS ranking, which appears much lower than it perhaps should be based on performance. Looking at a team from a comparable geographic area, the performance of the U13 Omaha team supports this point. The GS top five were mentioned as a rankings benchmark. Moral of the story is that GS is not necessarily a reliable indicator of performance, particularly with respect to those teams that are not from densely populated areas (e.g. NE or SOCAL). A secondary big picture point goes to the recent discussion on this thread about ECNL and recruiting in general, not any specific age group. The Omaha teams are not part of ECNL, nor is there much of an ECNL presence in the Midwest. This is perhaps too rigorous of a discussion for this board, I apologize if offense was taken. If anyone can comment on the Omaha moms, that might make the discussion more palatable.
950: Are they chasing standings or are they seeking peer competition?
10:44 I would say chasing standings. How can they compete with the NJ/NY teams/leagues that have GS down to a science. Do I have to bring up what EDP and NYCSL do for their teams? Do you really think they have most of the top teams Nationally?9:32 I'm with you. There are so many variables that GS does not pick up on.
11:01, Actually, there is one team in NYCSL that is a national-caliber team, but they don’t know it yet...
Oh brother, NYSC guy give it a rest already.
No, wait, It wasn’t me, I swear, I think it was the Crush guy, they are like 9-0 or something some such.
This is my understanding of what the minds of girls go through until they are done playing or move onto College:U11-U14 Years: Girls Worry about - Chase Standings | Get Rank in GS | Pressure of Winning every weekend - The Fun and Enjoyable YearsU15-U18 Years: Girls Worry about - Individual Identification for College Recruitment process| ID Programs | Grades | College Visits | - The Serious Years(Mentality & Physically) I see the later parts of a girls youth soccer career is more about the individual themselves and not worrying about the national fever and GS Standings like the younger years. If you watch any of the Final Four you will see most many of the girls are from different parts of the East coast Region and if you look at their profiles not one put they were #1 in GS at U13/U14. Most of their profiles are from what achievements were done at HS and Club level at the older ages U16+. So for those still chasing standings at U13/U14 enjoy it because come U15+ it's a different story.
12:13 you left off the biggest concern and talent killer of girls 15-18 years of age, which is a boyfriend. Nothing will strike fear into a parents heart like the possibility of a boyfriend that can equal the love of soccer. This is the true dividing line between that of a driven player with tunnel vision, and one that loves playing as long as it they have time for .......oh I hate to even say it......a stinking boyfriend.
Wrong, most of the best will have girl friends and they will be on their team and have the same drive. Where have you been?
1213 Great post and totally agree with it. As many have said only a select few make it through into the collegiate level. As for the boyfriend comment well that's something we all hope they are smart enough to avoid and keep focus on dreams.Does anyone or know a source have a total number of D1 schools that are losing Sr's and all that stuff curious with so many ECNL/NPL teams what's the true # of girls that actually get to play after Sr. Year of HS.
Intersting Facts:After only six years of ECNL soccer, the number of ECNL Alums playing at college soccer’s highest levels is staggering. yepand....?Let's give it a rest alreadyWe all know what ECNL is - and that it is open to anyone. Lets keep the infomercials to a minimum
I think it reminds the parents that the wide avenue of exposure is Real and the tired discussions had by those coaches who seek to convince their best players that ECNL is a force is nothing more than there own self serving pitch. Whereby, it is certain that they do not have the best interest of the child at heart. Its pays to remind those parents who are thinking about making a leap at this critical juncture. Please keep it coming for those that are late to the party and are trying to decide for next year
""that ECNL is a Farce"
It should be known that those that say ECNL is a farce are coaches that are self-serving and parents of kids that either cannot afford it and/or the kid can't make the squad. It is not the only avenue, just happens to be a very good avenue. My kid isn't good enough but I will gladly share that if she were good enough, she would be on an ECNL squad.Haters be hatin'!
Yes we all know what ECNL has done the marketing madness an stop now!. The funny part is how much the East Coast dominates the college scene vs. the middle and west states. Is it because of ECNL or is just the overall talent level. So someone please explain to me why East Coast ECNL/NPL travel out west where more of the top notch schools are on the East. LOL
Travel out west.? We have one trip this year and I am looking forward to it. who cares about recruiting out west. Just a nice experience.
1:46 Because a "B" team tournament on the east coast is just that, a "B" team tournament. But if your the organizer and want to keep parent dollars coming in, you make sure to put shiny name on it and have it held where only the "top B teams can go". If you shred cabbage up and leave it out, its called rotten cabbage. But shred it up and ferment it right, its cole slaw and people love it. Same idea.
one mans cabbage is another mans cole slaw. If you donot want your daughter to be on the B team then have her try out for the A team. what do you care? Its there ruffage
Some players have now spent two years waiting to turn into cole slaw and make the "A" team. When it becomes three and new players are coming in and making the A team, will those parents still be excited about their prospects of making it?
So your complaint is Is that they didn't get picked for the A team. Well that's life. Go find another A team where your daughter fits.
My daughter is on the A team stupid ass!! I have friends who's kids are not and every tryout they get the same story. I have dropped hints about other her playing for other teams where it would be considered an A team. But club has them convinced that she is just missing the cut. In truth, she's not that close.
--Why travel out west?Myth: To get looks by west coast college coaches.Fact: Because it is fun. The opportunity to play the highest level soccer in the country is just gravy.--Why play for an ECNL B team?Myth: Being in the club brings the best opportunity to get a shot at the ECNL team.Fact: Playing for a ECNL B team is often as good, or a better, option than playing for the local non-ECNL A team. Cost is about the same.
Its basketball season.
6:50 what makes you think the kid wants to be on the "A" team? because the parents want her there? I can speak NJ and NJ only the NorthEast NPL teams for MF/PDA are just as good if not better than most if not all of the NON-ECNL A teams. I guess we'll see at Jefferson if that's true as all the PDA teams will be there including Storm to play in this Spring pre-season event. Also, let's see how many of the NON-ECNL teams go to the PDA event in April and play for NO GS points. We will see now how good the PDA event draw will be this year or we will see if PDA shot themselves in the foot by holding Storm out last year and taking away the GS points from 16 teams. Going to be a very interesting Spring in addition for the hunt for national league spots via RCL and the hunt for a national title via ECNL, National League, NPL and qualifying for a national event via region1 championships. Going to be a great for some kids.
