There goes another jags team playing in a town tournament for the points! Why don't you go to a tournament and be challenge and not beat up on rec. teams.
Are you kidding me?????
What rec teams are you referring to?
Pennsylvania parent here. We played NJX this past weekend at FCD Players Cup. Nice 1-1 game with NJX scoring the equalizer late. Parents were very cordial. Had a nice chat with one dad about how NJX will fall under the Match Fit name (do not know if this is true). There was the usual talk about SJEB/PDA player movement. But, if I could address an earlier post, it's pretty common that your typical ECNL U14/15 team will have at least 50% roster turnover compared to U11/U12. As there are so many unknown variables, the bottom line is that one can only focus on development at the early ages. To chase wins/tournament trophies/gotsoccer points at the expense of development is ultimately a choice. Whether it is the right choice is entirely up to you and your child.Best of luck everyone.
@1:34 PA Parent: Thx for the very good game this past weekend. Teams will be changing a lot in the next few years many of the highlevel teams will continue with a core but will have turnover from girls looking to go ECNL or not cutting it on a ECNL team. Turnover is based soley on club's and coaches needs on the field. (i.e. If a team has 2 strong forwards becuase they are playing 4-4-2 why would they pick up a player equally or as strong. That player must be overwhelming be better to knock 1 of those 2 forwards off)Question for you what clubs are tied to Penn Fusion, FC Delco, and FC Bucks for PA ECNL?
Penn Fusion is West Chester.FC Delco is Continental (formerly Spirit). Not sure about Bucks.
Did the PDA Shore in Tom's River ever get off the ground?
Yes that is true. NJX will be under the Matchfit umbrella in the fall. Def. A step in the right direction.
Why is it a step in right direction ro NJX? Holmdel would have been better off never letting MF in the door.. MF training over rated amd the organization is nothing more than a money pit. The backlash is coming.
FC Bucks are Council Rock United.
80+ kids tryout for NJX Sol .... and Sol passes on all. Now NJX is holding a 2nd round of tryouts. What exactly it NJX looking for?
They are looking for a second team. An MF branded NJX team. That will play EDP they already have enough. Just looking to fill slots
Mf njx may actually be good. Then you can have another team to bash on the blog.
So assuming many changes have been made on teams since tryouts are over. Can everyone follow up and make edits on this tread so we all get an ideal what fall season will shape up as. If I missed any top level teams please add. PDA Galaxy: No roster changes correct?PDA Crew: ?PDA Nova: 2 players left, Any new Adds?NJX(Matchfit): How many player changes?Jackson: Team CollapsePDA Shore: Toms River girls?SJEB: 2 adds from PDA Nove?NJ Rush Hamilton: No Roster changes?SDFC: Going 11v11? Sorry, PDA Galaxy: May have a change unconfirmed as of yetWhat about TSF?
Who cares? Geeze people!!
@3:44pm - its a blog board and 1:35pm actually had a good informative good idea and helps get information out to parents and give them understanding. This board is actually very clean comapared to others that use it to point out and blame teams, coaches, and other stupid things. So if you don't like do log on and look at it. SDFC is going 11v11 and FC Maximus will pick a few to go 11v11 as well.
I agree, @135 is an actual interesting post. that doesn't just complain about winning teams. Any word on PDA, I heard Galaxy was unchanged too?
Hope the Jackson girls found homes. Some good quality of girls on that team that deserve more.
Rage Renegades staying 8v8 from what I hear. Will there be any decent teams left at 8v8 in NJ for them to play?
They don't have to stay in NJ to play decent teams.
true but that mostly applies to tournaments. The NJYS Cup, NJ Cup and EDP might not be worth entering..... more travel is what it will come down to I guess.
Yes Jackson lost girls to PDA Shore, NJ Rush Hamilton that's good for those quality players. As for 8v8 in NJ, not sure there will be any quality teams left to play since many will teams will transition or have already moved to 11v11. NJX Sol(Match Fit), PDA Galaxy and SJEB(w/ 3 new pickups) will be the top 3 teams.
SDFC merging their Rage and Aztec teams to go 11v11. Great Post @1:35
Rage FC should consider doing the same with Renegades and Revolution just to stay on the same page as their piers.
Piers? Someone has summertime on their mind!
EDP Scores from today?
NJX played themselves? at least they scored 4 goals. That never happens.
Sorry NJX 2-2 Hamilton. If you really cared go to the website. Jack ....... Always bashing 10-11 year olds....
Longtime lurker and wanted to share. I was impressed by this fiery defender. Nothing got past this girl. She played with such heart and soul. It really showed this player loved the game. After our game I approached this girl and her parents and told them how well she played. I heard their team would not be around next season so I wanted to have her join us. Her eyes welled up and she looked so sad as she said, "I love my coach, If he goes with you I will too." With a very heavy heart I found myself welling up with tears. Here I am this macho dad wanting my kid to be the best and demolish the competition and loosing sight that this is all about the kids. This young lady schooled me that it's about the kids and I will never lose sight of that again!I did find out this girl is going to another town team. My question is why would the parents stay at a town level? Going into u12 isn't it time to make a move to pda?
7:53 very moving story. Sometimes its all about the heart of a player vs. any physical, skills, or athletism. It's not every players/parents route to play pay to play academy style. If the shines on her town team and showcases very well. She may go out for ODP in the future or TIP if her club sponsors her. So other avenues can be taken without going to PDA, MatchFit or any other academy style of play.
Agree...save your money! Very few full-ride scholarships available for soccer. She has a better chance getting an academic scholarship.
anyone know what happened in the Pipeline/Hamilton game? That should have been a good match-up.
New National Rankings out....NJ and MD holding 6 of the top 7 spots.http://home.gotsoccer.com/rankings/results.aspx?Level=National&Gender=Girls&Age=11&Region=&State=
Who cares about rankings they are u11. Those GotSoccer rankings will change drastically by the same time next year. Plus how do rank teams when some teams are playing 8v8 and other are 11v11 total two different games.
11:35 don't read them then.Do agree that should be separate rankings for 8 v 8 and 11 v 11..but is what it is.
4:10am - Seriously why are posting that early in the morning. Rankings do not even show the true quality of a team. You have teams that enter 6-8 tourney's a year + league play. These teams are what I call point chaser teams and then you have a quality U11 team in PDA Galaxy that placed in 3 GS events this past year and did not play in a league with GS points and are right up there. Shows that Gotsoccer has it totally wrong with the younger ages should of kept it at u14 and up. Also agree with 11:35 8v8 and 11v11 should in different categories.
OMG 11:07 AM...why are you posting at 11:07 am...what are you doing...why aren't you working? Give it a break....hopefully your team makes it somewhere some day....but my bet is not! These teams shouldn't be penalized bc they won tournaments and leagues with points tied to them. That's how the world goes round...not everyone gets a trophy every time for showing up! Galaxy is a great team but they have been beaten and will lose again. Guessing your team hasn't won a thing...prove me wrong.
I agree that the rankings are BS at this age but if you currently look at them they really are reflective of who the best U11 teams are in NJ right now. They're actually pretty accurate. Good part is anyone in the top 10 can beat each other on any given day which is a testament to the strength of all those programs.
6/1- 7:53: What team are you referring to? Very moving fictional story. If this fictitious story is about a particular team that is slated to be dis-banned next season, well...I seriously doubt that a player would have said that about their coach. Additionally AND specifically, since all the "fiery" defenders are already going to PDA. Really moving story, coach!!!
Gotsoccer rankings are not perfect but as good as you Will get. Just like all rankings in sports. The computer willJust crunch the data & spit it out. There is only one team beating out of state ranked teams.Check the top 5 teams records. You will figure it out.Sure on any given day any team can be beat. What separates the best from the rest is the body of work.
Hey long time lurker...really?? I think you got your fiery defenders wrong. I was a spectator at the game and from what I could see there was a undefeatable defender from the other team that STOPPED the striker in her tracks and did not let her come close to scoring. Now that is a fiery defender! Why isn't she going to pda to play?
Congratulations on stopping a mid level striker that many have stopped this season. Keep patting yourselves on the back NJX for beating average competition and losing to the best. From reading the posts above, didnt you get one of those players from that team?
@8:53 I agree Gotsoccer is not perfect but it is also mis-understood at this age group. You mention Top 5 but if you look at Top 10 3/4 of those teams still play 8v8 and I think those teams will not match up well in 11v11(vs. PDA Galaxy/Nova, NJX, SJEB, Rush. So it doesn't show the true story yet. To me Gotsoccer Rankings should only be done on full sided teams. 8v8 is great for development and the true Eurpean style. But points in points in Gotsoccer are for full sided teams not teams still trying to develop at 8v8. Soon enough they'll go lower ages and we'll start seeing 5v5 teams in other states u9/u10. lol
@11:59 6/3: For a matter of fact my daughter is on one of the PDA Teams ranked in the Top 10. You are probably just unhappy person thus the reason to come on here and stalk the blog 4am in the morning. To point out Gotsoccer ranking great idea and concept. Alot better view then what was done in the past. The U11 year is more for capturing history for proper placement come u12 when all quality teams go full sided at u12. Hopefully all teams in NJ go 11v11. No need for 8v8 brackets in EDP NJ. Unless they lure PA teams that play 8v8 into the EDP league to give additional competition. Total agree 8v8 and 11v11 needs to be ranked differently. Out of those Top15 which of them are staying 8v8. Anyone know?
"A player who really wants to excel will spend as much time as possible playing small-sided games when he has playmates, and juggling and kicking against the wall when he's on his own." Claudio Reyna (and US Soccer)But NJ PDA Parents think it's more important at the ripe old age of 11 yrs to go after got soccer points? And we all know that PDA crowns itself the Best Club in the World, so they must be on to something and smarter than the rest of the USA playing 8v8 games, and the rest of the world playing small sided pickup at this age. (But in reality you end up driving your kids to private foot skill lesson 5 days a week to get the ball touches they would have otherwise gotten playing small sided).Which choice looks like the smarter path to take? Duh.
3:42 - Nice theory except a certain PDA north team didn't go to numerous tournaments and chase GotSoccer points like other same-aged teams. They participated in 3 tournaments and all were in NJ. They aren't "going after" GotSoccer points. They are that good to earn enough with only 3 tournaments. And that fellow posters is scary. 3 tournaments and they are #4 in NJ. Champions of 2 and Finalist for the 3rd. Everyone above them have 2x the list of Got Soccer point-earning activities. To me those are the point chasers. But I guess if you can't do it minimally through quality like Galaxy then you have to do quantity and go here, there, and everywhere to cobble together the points.
@ 3:42pmYou are clueless..If you ever go to a PDA North practice. You will see the coach split the teams into small sided games. What do you think they are working on. " Kick the ball& chase it Sally" NO control in tight spaces. ControlUnder tight pressure. Claudio is correct. If your kid wants to be elite. They have to want it. That means Working on their own skills. A coach can give you all the tools you need but if you don't practice with the tools. You will not master how to use the tools. As for PDA. How many clubs around the US can sayThey have two Playrers from the same club playing for the US national team. Not even on the mens side.Stay off the blog if you don't know what you are talking about.
When it comes to PDA, you can follow the advice of one or the other:(A) a bunch of internet blowhards who have nothing better to do than ridicule the club, or(B) a former US national team player (27 caps), MLS player (353 appearances), and MLS Head Coach (68 games), who sends his child there for training.Do you really need a hint as to who probably has the better sense of things?- EE
3:42....I think we all agree that Galaxy is a great team...but you tooting your own horn takes away from that...have lost some respect for your team. DO YOU understand how points work? Got soccer bases their point allotments per tournament by taking into account how many got soccer points teams in the tournament have. Sooooo, your mighty Galaxy would have not earned a pile of dung if it wasn't for the other teams in the tournaments who had earned points by playing in the toughest tournaments and leagues.
NJX Sol got ZERO points at their last 3 tournaments (Delco, PDA and Jeff Cup) and yet they are ranked 6th in NJ based on GS. They are getting points via EDP league play. If Galaxy cared about points they would leave JAGS.
PDA aren't truly interested in long term development. Otherwise they would set the precedent for playing 8v8 up til U12s and transition to 11v11 at U13. But they won't. They have their U10s playing in a 11v11 tournament this weekend, i mean what on earth are they doing?Lets face it if PDA changed and had the 8v8 at U12 and below model then clubs would follow, but they won't. Tells you what type of "coaches" they use there if they aren't telling the owner what is right for the players. And if they are telling him then it's the owners fault for not doing what is right.
5:53 go check where those national team players spent their developing years? It wasn't at PDA. Girls come to Prato play in te showcases at u16. Of this years senior class of PDA girls with commitments, more than half did not develop at PDA.
Caught up reading posts. Someone gleefully posted, as proof that their child will be at PDA come ecnl years, that Galaxy had no cuts this year. Whether that is true or not, go ask Mr. A how many girls left PDA this past summer, before this years U14 squad touched foot on their first ecnl pitch. 40+ girls left! Two entire teams. So hang onto that 3 letter jersey a little tighter because you still have a long way to go.
8:46am. Correct. Heather O'Reilly played for East Brunswick until she was U16 or 17 and then went to PDA. Doesn't the acronym stand for "Players Developed Already"?. Taking credit for the development of National Team players when they had very little to do with their development is ridiculous.
The claim against PDA - and what was most likely lodged at Nova and not Galaxy - was about chasing Got Soccer points. Galaxy doesn't chase points. I don't see the other "academies" like Match Fit & FC Copa with U8 teams. They are not developing talent at the early ages but take other people's efforts. PDA at least has the kahunas to start teams at U8.
Cough cough. Check the current Galaxy roster and see how many started at U8 at PDA. I think you will find 5 at most. You can't win claiming "development" at PDA. You must be a newbie parent or ostrich parent, with no idea as to what goes on at older ages.
9:23 yes, I can see where the MLS model and former USMNT mindset is working well for the USA. Keep following it, while the rest if us move on and improve. Did you happen to catch Klinsmann's latest interview, or are you too busy staring at Gotsoccer rankings?http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/06/world-cup-klinsmann-united-states-cant-win/jurgenquote#main
PDA - always a club looking to find the next big thing. Meaning if a kid is very noticable on the field and parents are willing to move they will add to the roster. When do you ever hear PDA turn down a quality player becuase there is no room on a roster. Yes Galaxy is a good team so are others NJX, NOVA, SJEB, RUSH, but if a kid is undeniable above and beyond already developed. So a player still in the process of progessive development is thrown out the door at this age group to join these teams.
Does anybody have any recommendations for a one week sleepover soccer camp that is good but fun too. I have only really heard of Red Bulls Camp.
Worry about the program that your daughter is currently in. If you are in PDA, worry about PDA. If you are in NJX, worry about NJX. If people decide to be a part of a program, they have been sold on the program. Stop your bitching on things that arent effecting you.
Hey Lurker, That fiery crying defender has already forgotten about her coach. She is 11. Instagram and her friends have now taken over. Once she starts with her new team, they will realize that maybe it wasnt as special as they thought.
I guess 11:09s sally was cut from galaxy and has an axe to grind about development instead of admitting that maybe sally wasn't as good as mom and dad thought. I bet sally is the star of her current team too, making mom and dad so proud.
@ 12:19 - "affecting"
Do you really think the Galaxy care about points.Good one! They are preparing for the national stage.Who cares about points.Keep wasting your time obsessing over them. They could care less what other clubs do.Soccer is competition. Every great team brings in talent. That's what keeps players sharp. If your kidDoes not want to compete. That's why they have REC.If a former Pro is brining his kid to PDA.That' says it all.Move on.
5:35 although not near the experience, World Class has two who have played on the USWNT asWell.
Is anyone with IGFA? I saw that the club trains their players 2 hrs/day for 4 days each week. I was wondering how that is working out for the kids. To me 4 days a week at this age seems excessive but maybe my thinking is outdated?
Not with IGFA but it was explained to me this way - practice three days a week, with a fourth day possible for specific skills. Fourth day was not every week. Practice is continuous 50 weeks a year. I did not find out the penalty for absences.
The 8 hours would be fine if they didn't play many games. At U12 burnout needs to be guarded against. Most teams do a worse thing and play far too many games. Not including 3/3, 5/5, stuff you should not play more than 35-40 games a year IMO.
Anyone know of any impact or core players moving teams? Seems like not much movement at this age group going into u12 except for the Jackson team folding.Rush and Galaxy will probably be the strongest in NJ next year.
Who is IGFA? Where do they play?Do they have any other solid teams?
Rider Cup schedules posted
Looks as if there are alot more 8v8 teams playing Rider Cup vs. 11v11. Will this continue going into the Fall?
doubtful, look at the U12 bracket.
I understand the Non-NJ teams playing 8v8 but if the majority of the top or mid level teams in NJ are playing or have been playing 11v11 why not play them during the summer months to gauge if an 8v8 team should move into a 11v11 format come fall. Are these 8v8 academy style teams like (FC Copa, SDFC, Rage FC,SJEB) just chasing points and wins? Thoughts? The regular smaller town travel clubs I understand staying 8v8 they are still in development moad. Plus I see some strong town travel teams at 11v11 assuming the coaches know it's better play.
@227 some of those teams look like summer teams only. Don't know why you would go 8v8 otherwise if you played 11v11 all year.
@9:14 True looks like summer teams, going back @2:27 your on the dot, why would a full time 8v8 team stay and play 8v8 in the summer. Chasing points or wins is not development. Pick up a few guess players and play 11v11.
2:27 are you for real? It's not just the "smaller town travel teams" that need to develop. ALL players are developing at 11 years old, and need the ball touches. Only NJ goes 11v11 at U12, and it's for THE MONEY!!Within a few years at most, NJ will conform to. Rest of World and of what is best for the kids. And if you don't believe NJ parents are getting hosed, ask you rival team parents from south Jersey or any other state how much they are paying for ECNL tuition or ODP. NJ pays 3x more for the same services.
@1216. All players need to develop but at this age. However, alot of these players have all been playing 11v11 already. Why switch to 8v8 - unless you want got soccer points because you are playing new teams or club is looking for more fees. The younger teams will stay 8v8 for a while, that makes sense. They are new. But an 11v11 team going small sided for one year is suspect.
@12:16 I posted the 2:27pm yesterday and I'm actually from the North and my child plays 11v11. To my understanding there is no ECNL teams in the South they are only up North PDA & MatchFit.So to be serious what is true development 8v8 no competition a few players dominate the game or 11v11 with competition to play as a team.
Anyone with common sense understands that small sided 8v8 is far better for development. More touches, smaller areas. My guess it that the few quality teams who stay small sided this year at U12s will do very well at U13. They will find competition out of state. Whether its the NY NPL or EDP. Or they will play teams within their Club.
Teams play 8v8 in the summer for two simple reasons, you are always missing players and it's hot as hell.
Missing players and being hot is not a reason for teams with 15+ rostered to play 8v8. You bring guess players up from B level teams or outside sources. These are excuses to me.
4:01 who says no competition? Honestly, the perspective of the parents on this blog is so small as to be laughable. Do you not understand the rest of the country and the world play small sided? There were more 8v8 brackets at Jeff cup for 12-year-olds than full sided.
the 11 year old that plays 8v8 has no problem transitioning to 11v11. take an 11 year old that played 11v11 and put her back on 8v8 and they have lots of trouble.Much easier to play on the big field. your first touch can be sloppy, lots of room to move around and more time before your preasured.
I don't think there is disagreement that playing 8v8 longer is good. The question is for this age why bother. They already moved past it.
This age got caught a year behind. 95% of the teams in the state at U11 will be 8v8 next year. Not sure why PDA is going to stay 11v11. Poor choice, by a fine club IMO.
I don't think this age group got caught up with the transition period of staying 8v8 at u11/u12. Its the power house clubs like PDA that have established developed players on there teams that are ready for 11v11. Its up to all the other clubs to not chase and follow them.
9am-"established developed players on there teams ready for 11v11" Really? Did you really just infer that clubs like PDA have developed U11 players that have developed so much that they can no longer develop by playing 8v8 format so have to play 11v11 to further develop? You are absolutely clueless. Go read a book about youth soccer anywhere else in the developed soccer world and then come back to where logical conversation can take place.
In the world? What do they know about girls youth soccer? They don't even believe in it. PDA is the number one girls club is the us, maybe they can write their own book now.
8:26 - Galaxy has a lot of talented girls and seem to be fine at 11v11. They are going in a different direction that everyone else other than MF and we're not going to see them much in the future. Why not tell us about your team instead.
The point being made is that no player on earth is "too developed" that playing 8v8 is destructive to their current progression. Just because you think PDA is the best club in the country it doesn't mean a thing. If they played clubs from outside of the US they would get whacked. My older daughter played at Disney a few years ago and played a team from Japan. My daughters team were ranked top 5 in the country and we weren't even close to this team. It's a big world out there and just because PDA choose to play 11v11 at U10 and U11 it doesn't mean they are right. They are wrong. Plain and simple. They should be setting a better example.
Setting an example? Again, what is wrong with you people???? Here's a thought....if you believe your daughter should be playing 8v8 go to a team that does. The rest of us are fine... Trust me!
Keep drinking that PDA Kool Aid.
I did choose to have my daughter play on a team that plays 8v8. What's the rush to go full sided, the girls have the rest of their lives to play 11 a side
I think it's more on the parents agenda trying to get their child on a PDA or MatchFit 11v11 team early. Like many say it's harder to get on these teams later. PDA teams didn't have much turnover maybe 2/3 girls between 3 of their 11v11 teams. So it shows that parents that get in early get the opportunites to stay on the teams vs. trying out year after year to make it. As it goes 8v8 vs 11v11 conversation can vary depending on location, PA has done 8v8 for a very long time but their teams are still do not match up NJ's top level teams at the older stages. So it proves that going 11v11 does not hurt a team that is full of talent.
FYI to PDA north teams. You have a Lyons dad on u10 making some statements against galaxy and crew. Claims to be a u11 crew dad, nobody is buying it.
PDA has a lot of missteps and miscues. Look at ESFL and JAGS? Lol. And now they will not "revert" back to small sided because if the huge revenue loss. PDA charges $2500 per player minimum for full sided vs $1300 small sided . You do the math. Someone has to fund the boys DA program.
Heard PDA will be treating and funding the girls ECNL teams the same way the Boys DA program does? IS this true?Makes sense for the boys DA program becuase if they PDA doesn't they will lose there players to the NY Red Bulls academy.
The problem with 8v8 in America (as opposed to the magical wonderful world of small-sided in Europe which people wish could be re-created) is that it is not just played for training and development purposes, but is still coupled with league and tournament competitions. And the resulting "need" to WIN those games tends to undermine the value of the format. IF the focus of 8v8 remained increased touches through a short-controlled passing game, then absolutely it would be beneficial for all teams and players. But I've watched plenty of 8v8 games at tournaments, and most of the time, the 11s and 12s rely on the fact that their keeper and backs can loft the ball nearly the entire length of the small-sided field. They don't do it because they should, but they do it because they can, and is often effective in getting the win. It is also easier for teams to rely on their 2-3 stars on the smaller field, who often are given the freedom to go anywhere on the field, rather then learn to rely on their teammates. Until those elements are taken away (i.e. remove the over-emphasis on playing for results, points, etc.), then much of the benefits of the 8v8 format are wasted.- EE
11:47 yes that is why qualified trainers are key. Most of the clubs should be building for the future, not for the win. The teams that have been learning the beautiful passing game are not going to abandon that just because they can sudden kick the ball 50 yards into the goal.
Yes, but the "quality" of the trainer is only one element. In order for that quality trainer to be able to stay on point, the Club has to remove the value of the wins, and how many Clubs are willing to do that when winning increases their marketability, ego and profit? And the parents have to stop putting so much pressure (and side-line coaching) for the win. "Academies" should actually train in a true Academy style, where the focus is primarily training, and the games are completely in-house, or closed-door (i.e. no parents, no trophies, no standings, results irrelevant). And no, this is not "no trophies so everyone feels special" - this is "no trophies so the players can focus on development". Then turn them loose at 13 to play 11v11 against the world. Will never happen though. Parents (and kids) in America want their training AND their competition. They want to be entertained for their money, and enjoy the pleasures of their kids' battling for a victory, as opposed to simply spending it on their kids education in the sport. And that's not necessarily wrong. It does undermine the opportunity to get our players trained to the highest levels, but not everyone is in it for that - there is also value to simply playing for the enjoyment of it in the present, without worrying about college scholarships, or the future of the national team, etc.- EE
EEyou are on target. I think the problem is most academies sell the concept of "development" then go for the win. Its a matter of sticking to the philosophy you sell. That is where most of the parent's ire comes from in their blog posts. Most of American society reacts the same way- we don't like a sell out to pressure, but we love to say we are on top. That is why, I only worry about my own.
EE - Your comments are on the dot. Problem is it's not reality. With Gotsoccer rankings, online blogs, high end leagues like ECNL the landscape has escape the true meaning of development and has moved to "my kid is better then these town travel players, I need to move at a pay to play academy where my child can become part of one of the top 25 teams in the state" To many things impacted the parents mindset to what true development is and it will never change unless MLS teams start making an impact on the community like European teams do.
You are forgetting about the kids. They want to win and get some type of medal or trophy. How do you keep the morale up of a 12 year old whose team has lost nearly all league and tournament games all year? Is there an 8v8 team who doesn't go to a lot of tournaments and focuses on development as you say? I would like to check out these clubs.
It's easy to see who hasn't played many "got soccer ranked games" but are competitive teams. I got these stats from got soccer, clubs are listed by their ranking in the state. Not totally accurate but from what i know the following clubs are playing small sided next year again. RAGE, SDFC maybe? STA, NJ Crush, NJSA will be playing small sided in NY NPL. Hope this is useful!1, SJEB-41 games2, RAGE-45 games3, NJ Rush-33 games4, PDA Galaxy-11 games5, PDA Nova-38 games6, NJX-38 games7, SDFC-33 games8, FC Maximus-25 games9, TSF-36 games10, Jackson-34 games11, STA-19 games12, Cherry Hill-34 games13, IGFA-21 games14, Moorestown-16 games15, Monmouth-16 gameshttp://home.gotsoccer.com/rankings/results.aspx?Level=State&Gender=Girls&Age=11&Region=&State=NJ&Tier=&Search=&pos=
Enough with the 8v8 vs. 11v11. Every team or club has there own preference on developing players. It's up to the parents to research and decide what club best fits them. Development occurs mostly at 2 or 3practices during the week at this age. Games on the weekends are for competition doesn't matter 8v8 or 11v11.If your daughter is getting the right training during the 3-4 hours a week that's where true development happens so stop the discussion about what's better for a child to play 20-30 minutes at 8v8 or 11v11 on the weekends. How many exams are taking within a school year 3/4 max but a child goes to school 9 months of the year to learn.
@4:45 Thanks for putting that together I can see you have plenty of time. So based on your stats 3 of the Top 15 teams are 8v8. Which points to many on why would those 8v8 teams stay 8v8 come fall when 80% of the teams are 11v11. They will need to travel out of state going forward to find competition and if they stay 8v8 in NJ they are just beating up lessor teams. So winning an 8v8 game by 5+ goal margins is not development to many.-North
The ones playing in the NY NPL will be playing teams from NY and CT.
Galaxy is #4 in the state playing 11v11 with 11 GS games? What clubs nut job parent wants them to "set the bar" for everyone else by doing 8v8?
8v8 is nice and makes, I can go either way. I enjoy watching the 11v11 now and the girls are getting to big for some of the small sided fields. The reason 90 percent of the teams listed above play 8v8 is because they can't get enough qaulity girls to play and or pay for the 11v11. I know this for a fact, on one of the teams mentioned and believe me our club would welcome 11v11. All our older teams started at u11.
EE... I could not agree more with your insite. You hit it right on the head... Nothing wrong with 8v8 but once again, us Americans are missing the point!
-8:24 As you mentioned you can't get enough quality girls to play and pay for 11v11, is the perfect reason to stay 8v8 and help the the girls that need development. The only problem is will those quality girls stick around, parents may feel they are not getting competitively stronger not playing stronger teams. They may just end up leaving after this year. For the teams staying 8v8 with enough quality players, I do understand how it makes any sense. -North
The PDA philosophy is to be the best by U11 (full sided), regardless how they accomplish that. But in what world other than at that club, is being the best by 11 years old the mission? Any parent reading this blog with older children who have played the sport will understand how ridiculous this is. And no, it's not jealousy or sarcasm or any other negative emotion - it's wisdom after having a) watched the emotional and physical toll "being the best by age 11" takes on these young children, and b) it's the realization that being the best at 11, 12,13 or 14 years is completely meaningless. There should be no nationals or championship titles before high school. That's the age when the children have developed and real coaches and parents can assess whether a child is suited for this sport at a high level or not. Being the "champion" or "#4 U11 team in the country" has zero bearing on whether you are a top player by high school.
Sorry Part 2 of my email. Some of the things that go on at that club which create the environment of "being the best at all costs" are:1. Constant recruiting by the coach during the year, which is a direct message to the families that the current players aren't good enough;2. Every player being ranked each year by February and told whether they need to step up their game or risk being cut (this year that applied to approx 50% of the team).3. A majority of the parents sending their children to additional soccer training and speed and agility classes at least 2-3 times per week, in an effort to "keep up".I overheard a parent discussing her child's winter offseason sports schedule this year. This is the offseason, mind you. The child was: a) playing a winter sport involving 2 practices a week and 1 maybe 2 gsmes in weekend; but also b) taking private soccer training twice a week which also threw in a speed and agility session once a week; and c) PDA training twice a week which included 45 minutes of speed and agility once a week; plus c) private speed and agility training twice a week. This sounds like the schedule of a college athlete, no? Unbelievably, this was the offseason training regime of an 11 year old girl.
Part 3 and final part of my email: having older children entering high school and also leaving college, I can at least relay to the group that the best strategy for long term development and playing in college is the rule of reasonableness. Excess with anything in life is bad! Please at least take a moment to assess your schedules and think. Because there will be many girls at PDA by high school who quit soccer and move on in life because their passion for the game is long gone. It's no longer fun- the dream somehow along the way became the parents dream and not the child's. I have seen PDA star forwards who hung up their club cleats by age 15 and never stepped foot on a playing girls again, and then by college took off as far as they could from their parents. I have also seen a PDA family move their child to a different team every year, because their child got cut at a young age and they were always trying to find a team to showcase their child. Also witnessed plenty of girls give up club soccer by age 14 to go play lacrosse where the pressure is much less intense (aka more fun!).Sorry for the long post; I am done. Just wanted to share what I have seen over the past 12 years in girls soccer, to help families of young children understand thst the journey is a long one, not a race to the top by this age.
How are girls this age being trained for speed and agility? My towns high school trainer refuses to train any child younger than 14. Serious speed and agility involves weight training and body resistance training, which is not good for kids who have not finished puberty.
Private trainers are everywhere and parents from many clubs use them, not just PDA ones. I don't see the point of overworking at this age but some parents just can't let their kid be a kid.
@8:05 am.Your long winded comment is a far off.PDA & other top clubs such as Red Bulls philosophyIs not to play a ton of meaniningless games to get pointsEtc... The developement takes place in practice. AllProfessional teams around the world spend more time Practicing & training. Not playing tournaments every weekend. Some times 3 games a day in a tournament isStupid and counter productive. Your ranking is not a result of how many games you play. it's about the quality of your opponent. If you are a great team yourRecord will prove it.I would follow what the rest of the world does.PDA has it right.
Looked at final Got Soccer Rankings. When will they take Jackson off? They fell apart. No more team. Should they even be ranked anymore? Or will they hold their points for a full year? This is why gotsoccer rankings is BS.
Often when over half of a team moves to a new club they take their points with them. Where have most of the Jackson players gone?
Most girls went to PDA Shore, Freehold or stayed in Jackson. 1 went to NJ Rush and NJX
@7:34 Totally agree practices is where the development is acheived. Playing equally or better teams win or lose will make a team as a whole become better.
There are several problems/concerns with Gotsoccer rankings at this age. But even worst is that some teams play to chase points and there was a coach in particular that would request to play with lower competition at tournaments to fuel - points, rankings, and own coaches/parents egos. This is what happens when teams can't keep up with the competition, they start cheating. Best thing that Jackson families did was to move on so girls could get better training as you could see the gap closing in that other other teams were getting better. Kick and run just takes a team so far, until other teams start catching up with better skills, development, and overall training.
Town team playing well takes most of its players to a CLUB program (PDA Shore)Not a new development - happens all the time. And thus no knock on Jackson.
I heard the Final between SJEB vs. Cherry Hill this past weekend was mobbed with people watching game. Is it true both teams picked up new players? Looking forward to some very high level EDP games come fall. Will PDA Galaxy be joining the same league SJEB, RUSH, NJX and PDA South?Rush
@9:28 From what it has been posted here, most players did NOT go to "CLUB programs." I would not categorize a kick and run team to be a team playing well, town or otherwise.I do agree that this is not a new development whereby players leave for club programs. However, this solely happens to teams that are often coached by persons with big egos and no soccer experience, and who are unable to teach anything other than the basic kick and run tactics. I also heard that SJEB picked up new players. Can't wait to see all the talent at the upcoming season of EDP.
NJ Rush - picked up 1 player from JacksonPDA Nova - in process of picking multiple players from turnover.PDA Galaxy - no new playersCherry Hill - 2/3 new playersSJEB - 3 new players 2 from PDA Nova and 1 from a local town team.PDA Shore - majority of Jackson playersNJX - Matchfit transition probably no player movement.Did I miss anything. Should be an interesting fall season these top teams can go either way in league play.
Majority of the players in PDA Shore are from Toms River. Only four (4)players are from Jackson.
The subject of soccer league has been covered intensively by the world press over the past decade. In depth analysis of soccer league can be an enriching experience. Until recently considered taboo amongst polite society, it is yet to receive proper recognition for laying the foundations of democracy.
Goalie is from their "west" team. She moved over.
"Town player" came from Rage
I was there for this great game. Talked to a parent from the team they picked up a new goalie and the west goalie was there also. 2 goalies on roster. 2 PDA Nova girls came over, 1 very strong passing mid. Looked like the game should of been in a stadium with the amount of people watching it.
"Town player" is one of the 2 Goales. Rage player was a guess player.
Everyone stops and looks at an accident on the side of the road too. They were probably looking for a blood bath as Cherry Hill is the dirtiest team in the league. Their parents are animals on the sideline too!!
At"2:23" are you seriously coming on this blog to call a team dirty and parents animals please leave and worry about your own unhappiness with your daughter's team. The game was great to watch plenty of good soccer between 2 competitive teams with new additions. We just recently scrimmaged SJEB a few weeks ago so there was no bad blood just good back and forth soccer with a great come behind ending. With new additions on each team both teams will continue to compete in games like that all year long. CH-FC
It is not the kids fault because they have been conditioned to foul when they cant get the ball. It is the parents and the coaches that have made them that way. They are an abomination to the sport. They have not bitten anyone like Suarez, but now they coaches have the idea, watch out next season.
The CH parents yell to their daughters to take down their opponents during games. Zero class.
cherry hill has a long tradition of being dirty.
I cannot believe people would post things like "Zero Class", "Dirty players" about any team. It's not like a biting incident occurred. Teams play different syles and when it comes to competition play every girl is fighting for the ball. If ref's and coaches are not calling it then they are just simply letting them play. You parents just need to mind your own business and worry about getting your team better. CH-FC
to 12:41 pm:"Teams play different styles and when it comes to competition play every girl is fighting for the ball."When a player chasing the ball carrier from behind puts two hands on her back and pushes, that is not a "playing style" or merely "fighting for the ball". And when the girl is laughing about it immediately afterwards with her teammate, as they set up for the freekick awarded the other team, there is no way to deny that the player simply doesn't care about the spirit of the game, or fair play. You might find one or two players like that on any team, or you might find a team with several. The latter shows an obvious disdain by the coach to curb such behavior.- EE
12:41 your team will be responsible for a lot of ACL tears in a couple of years. Clean up your act.
Cherry Hill gives South Jersey Soccer a bad rep. Some nice teams in the south with good coaches, good parents and great kids. Then you have the trash from Cherry Hill. At least they all congregated together.
Listen to yourselves. Every team always has a couple parents that don't know how to control themselves. I've been to plenty of CH games over the years. It's a couple of parents just like Voorhees and Medford etc. Stop the CH bashing you sound ridiculous. Not a CH parent.
Even though the scores don't show it, someone must of gotten their tails whipped by Cherry hill. I frequent this blog and cannot recall the last time I read a post from what I would consider a "real" cherry hill parent. Going as far back as the racial comment months ago - I don't think that group even knows this blog exists. Let's layoff the hatred parents and talk soccer.
9:03 "Let's leyoff the hatred parents and talk soccer" but you start off your statement about getting "their tails whipped".Sounds like a CH parent to me.
I dont think that Cherry Hill parents are on this blog. Most can't read.
Yeah - that kind of comment REALLY elevates the forum.- EE
And EE are you a parent or just a blog stalker? PDA parent?
NJX picked up 3 or 4 new players.
to 6:56 When you can point out the relevance of knowing my daughter's club to the content of my posts, feel free to enlighten me. Until then, I look forward to your posting something of value here.- EE
If there is alot of "dirty" play, I place the blame on the refs. They have a job to keep it under control. A push fro the back is straight red card. Sounds like you need more/better refs at these games
The refs should be the last defense against dirty play. It should start with the parents and then the coaches/trainers. Someone is teaching these kids to play dirty and its not the refs.
Dirty play should not be tolerated, thus the reason the rise of concussion awareness. If Ref's do not control a game and continue to let it happen no matter how much girls are pressured to act playing in that manner by the parents or coaches then it's up to the Ref to speak up and do something about it.This Blog needs video upload ability to show proof of some if these actions.
The board has been quiet lately...how about the summer tourny's? Any thoughts on the upcoming CJI tourny or any of the others?
looks like a good 11v11 bracket, but not so much at 8v8.The Ft Dix fields will make it tough to predict. I think the fields at Tuckahoe are a much better venue.
When does Gotsoccer and this blog transfer over from U11 to U12? Does anyone know.
8/1 although Gotsoccer has already renamed some teams and reassigned points.
Everybody better check the CJIT website because the schedules all got changed TODAY at the last minute. Who's running this event, Mickey Mouse?? How do you possibly move games around at the last minute after issuing a schedule weeks ago. Newsflash the parents of these girls have alot going on and have other children and it takes a lot of precision and pre-scheduling on the families part to get everyone where they have to go. Changing everything at the last minute is an amateur move and the MSSL guy needs to go.
congrats to the SJEB clearly the best team in the CJIT,and probably RUSH was truly 2nd. When the brackets were re-done it was a very poor job any of the teams in bracket 2 where better than all of the teams in bracket 1. No idea why the changed last minute.
sjeb parents, always talking up their team. they were the best at the CJIT, besides rush, no one else was there. you guys can brag when you win a state cup.
Does it really matter at u11 what direction the brackets were put. Ultimately at least 3 quality games were played by each team in both brackets rather than 1 team running away with a lopsided bracket into the finals.
Board has been quiet? Anyone opinions about the upcoming Fall, which team will be the biggest surprise.
Biggest surprise is that NJX is not on here telling everyone how good they are at losing 1-0 games, but trying their best. lolLooking forward to another season of excuses.
Pipe down coach. Just because your team left you because they wanted more doesnt mean you have to come on here and spout garbage. See you on the fields. oops sorry.
That's because some parents on NJX don't stop complaining......one day they will wake up and realize nobody wants to hear that your daughter should be playing more... I'm not even a parent and I hear about it... Coach needs to step up and shut those few parents down.they wouldn't last 10 min. on an academy team... Should be interesting to see what girls are really committed to go to Matchfit. Can't wait to read about i!
Spirit Tournament should be interesting? Many top teams going moving into U12 will be on show. Looks like more 8v8 teams vs. 11v11?
Not really, there are a lot of Pa town teams playing 8v8. The 11v11 teams seem to be the harder competition. Where are the academy teams playing? I only see IGFA and Wildcats there
GFA we are ready and excited to play 11 vs.11 our team is solid and girls are ready !
GFA glad your excited and nice to see you guys go 11v11. Is anyone staying 8v8?
I just looked over the gotsoccer ranking to see who might stay 8v8 and the top teams that might are:Rage RenegadesSDFC RageFC MaximusAlmost everyone else going 11v11 as far as I know. What happened to PDA South Nova? They are not even on gotsoccer anymore.
weird, Nova now listed as U12.
Good for those 3 teams staying 8v8. Teams going 11v11 it will be the most interesting season ever.Joe T., Joe T., Joe T. where have you been. If you are out there can you shed some light on the PDA South being in U12 going to U13 age group.
EDP Brackets are out? Gonna be interesting.*11v11 1st Division Central -HOLMDEL FC NJX SOL (NJ)-SDFC RAGE (NJ)-TSF ACADEMY 02/03 (NJ)-INTERNATIONAL GIRLS FUTBOL ACADEMY 02-03 02-03 (NJ)-JERSEY UNITED SOCCER SPARTANS 02/03G PRE ASL BLUE (NJ)-ARSENAL FURY (NJ)-MATCH FIT ACADEMY FC NORTH PRE-ECNL (NJ)-PDA GALAXY (NJ)
Where did you find the brackets for next season?
EDP posted a link on facebook. Interesting to see NJX and Matchfit didn't they merge?
ODP? Whats the purpose at this age? What does it give your player, that Academy or ECNL training doesn't?
ODP / TIP all extra training and exposure as well as Academy or ECNL. Just different avernues for those that cannot afford academy costs but want to continue to paly at higher levels.
Can someone explain the Rutgers/PDA scandal to me ?
Here we go, the troller has now moved to another blog to talk $hit and ruin another age group. Not a PDA fan either, but don't need people like you ruining the blog. This guy will consume the blog soon and ask and respond to himself for days. He has been on u12 blog and now needs to move on.Get a life, your daughter has no skill and was cut.
2:31 I agree who cares about a Rutgers/PDA on this blog they are u11 going to be u12 they are years away from playing at a collegiately. 1:40 go and hit up another blog.
Lol. I'm 1:40 and it was a legitimate question . I haven't posted anything else anywhere. My daughter played for PDA and we know players and parents there. I try and stay out of your stupid gossip but was interested when another parent told me to read the blog. I try not to talk soccer with the parents that my daughter used to play with. So I'm kind of out of the PDA loop. FYI She wasn't cut. Just a moral decision. Have fun living vicariously through your child. I hope they get that scholarship that your looking for. I started a 529 plan when she was born. I'm good !
when does this blog switch over to be U12G?
http://www.gotsport.com/asp/directors/tournament/vieweventteamscleanb.asp?EventID=38983&Group=Girls_12 Edp flights seem to have changed a little
PDA Galaxy , Nova, Holmdel, , and SJEB in the Stars of Mass tourney in Bpston Labor Day. Wow ! Should be interesting to see how they make out.
Yes Stars of Mass tourney should be a good one. Don't forget the 8v8 bracket with Rage FC and NJ Crush. Great representation from NJ teams.
PDA Galaxy is at 'Eclipse Select Challenge Cup, IL'. Should see how they perform well there.
PDA Galaxy won morning game 6-0...nice to see a NJ team do well
Galaxy won the second game as well, 4-0. They play Waza FC tomorrow afternoon for the bracket winner (Waza also clobbered the other two teams in the bracket). - EE
Galaxy lost to Waza.
