IMO, the EDP, ETC, ODP are programs that someone came up with knowing that parents will PAY to advance their child's skill level, and basically cash in on our kids at an early age. Kids will grow and develop, their bodies will change; some will lose interest in soccer by the time they get to high school. So don't waste your money just yet...listen to your children, they may be telling you that they don't like soccer, but you are not listening. I believe that if your child is playing in a very competitive league there is no need for all these other programs just yet. This is my opinion...just saying.
I could probably say the same thing about paying for your 10/11 year old to play at an academy. More than half the girls on these Giant money making rosters won't be there in 3 years. Replaced, cut, but thanks for the $12K!!
Soccer training camps have become a BIG MONEY make scheme. They are all cashing in on our kids and laughing to the bank! Not everyone is going to get a scholarship to college. So all the parents that are paying big $$ to the ODP, ETC and soccer academies out there...beware, you are wasting your money at this stage. For 10/11 year olds you don't know where they will be in 3 years. So save your money; if your child has it when she is a freshman in high school then the high-level training is appropriate at that time.
@11.07 AM - You can say all you want that academies, club, camps, ODP, EDP etc. are all big $$$ businesses. I agree but gone are the days where you can send your 8,9,10,11 year old child outside to play pick up games(basketball, soccer, baseball etc) with good friends. Everything is all $ organized sports programs now from local to academy. Look you don't even see boys walking around the neigborhood knocking on doors to shovel snow or cut your lawn it's to dangerous with too many criminal idiots out there. If we as parents don't mind paying for camps, club or academy programs knowing all well they are participating, developing, and excercising than what else do you have them do besides sit in a house to play on a ipad or xbox all day. Even middle & highschools are cutting out extra activites like band, music, and some sports becuase not enough interest and that starts at younger ages. So if children are interested in something by all means parents should accomodate their child and they shouldn't mind paying for camps, or playing for an above average or high level team. Put the kids in a situation to dream at least they will experience something vs. sitting on a ipad or watching cable tv at home.
11:07YES - not all girls who undertake this endeavor will get a scholarshipTrue also that those who do NOT try will..........well......certainly not.Next case.
11:07 - disagree. I'd rather pay good money now to a trained professional to teach my kid how to play soccer at each age level instead of a parent coach who is reading "Coaching Soccer for Dummies." Its easier to build on a well-trained player at the high school level then try to fix a poorly-trained one.
How dumb is it to have points at u-11? how much more dumb is it to give points for league play? Was looking at the rankings. one team in NJ in this age group is 1-1-17 and still has enough points to rank nationally? Near 100? PLEASE!!!! Points for league play is DUMB. Got soccer has its issues, but this just completely undermines it.
You are assuming that teams are entering tournaments to get GotSoccer points. Some are, some are not. Which clubs are the point whores?
I hear there is a new team forming in the South with a bunch of SJEB , Cherry Hill, and PDA Nova players. Playing time being the biggest factor for the mass exodus from their clubs. Anyone know anything ?
Really, I would like to know more? How good will they be if it's all the girls with playing time issue?
Sjeb girls going to play some where else why?Would like to know more.
Would they be playing at Real Shore Lakewood? Looks like the girls side is sparse on teams.
Happy to see that the PDA Galaxy is playing in the NJ Cup this Spring. Figured they would dodge it due to the tournament losses at their own age bracket at the end of the Fall season. Dont want to damage the PDA reputation with more losses.
@ 3:36 - what info did you hear about this combo team in the south is doing.
Here we go with the stupidity and baiting. My daughter does not play for PDA, but I'm happy Galaxy is playing because they are the best team IMO. Im sure they weren't dodging anyone. Let's face it, entering the cup adds a lot of games to a crowded season and a fair percentage are lopsided. Sure it hurts my daughters teams chances, but it's good to see ALL top teams involved. What's wrong with you people? Add some value. Discuss tournaments, good training options, Etc.
I heard that SJEB had 30-40 kids try out recently for their summer select program. Also heard those 30-40 players didn't even include anyone currently rostered to their "East" or West" teams. Sounds like that might be what you're talking about? Sounds like a new summer team.
SJEB like any other club team is only having B teams or in this case C team doing Summer select. They will not allow any summer select players to join there A team. They only want your$$$$$$$$$$$.
5:51, why the bitter rant? If any of those 30-40 players wanted to be on SJEB's "East" or "West" team, they would be trying out for those teams and not the summer program teams right? They hold separate try-outs for the summer programs and the "regular" teams. I don't understand the premise of your rant linking "A" team "B" team "C" team, "summer team" and $$$$$$$$$ together. My guess is you just don't like the idea of clubs running summer programs for a fee, which is fine. You're allowed to that opinion, but you sounds like a soccer novice when you say it that way.
Maybe the kids are using the summer program as a means of trying to get onto the A team for the upcoming year?
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line..... they should go to the A team try-outs, not the summer team try-outs.
I want to agree with the above poster in regards to having a well trained player at the high school level. By the time high school comes around the the skill set should only be improved on and the majority of practice should focus on tactics and scrimmaging. Trying to get the best training and most reps is what is important . If your child is on a local team that has some really goo players and great training that would be the path i would take. if you can not find that locally you should seek out higher level club and/or private training. The soccer you can get a lot of reps the more technical your kid will be when it counts.
Listen and listen good , if your kid is good soccer player and wants to play with really good kids in the summer programs and really good club teams having a summer select team won't even give kids the chance. That sucks, are they afraid of the talent out there.???
People. This is a SJEB parent that is looking to get a little press on this blog. At the end of the day, SJEB at this age is a good team, but not in the Top 5. Read back. BTW. Summer Select means nothing.
6:10I'm not sure what you're getting at? Summer teams are what they are..... the best of those that try-out for them, that's it.Summer teams are simply players from various teams in the area that try-out for a summer select program to play soccer in the summer because their club team doesn't.You might be confusing a summer select program with the fact that some club teams play in the summer. For example, SJEB's East team is their year-around club team, which also plays in tournaments during the summer. That IS NOT their summer select team. If anyone wants to play with that team during the summer, they would need to contact their coach and ask to "guest play".I hope that makes sense. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, just clarifying the difference between summer select teams and club teams that play during the summer.
1:03pm I agree with you. Summer Select used to be the best soccer specific kids from area clubs training and playing in tournaments together during the offseason summer months(June, July). It is now a pure revenue maker for trainers and clubs, it's like teachers getting extra income in the summer to be tutors. Most high caliber teams play year round and are signed up to play summer as well. These summer tryouts are to play with a mix of players not a year round team, occasionally a spotted player may get an invite to train/play with the year round to see how he/she performs. Look even the MLS Philly UNION have summer select now the cost is $550 and $10 to tryout so if you have 2 kids that's $1100 for two months to play a sport where if your child is on a good enough team find out if the coach will also do summer as a team under a trainer to hire.
Why can't kids play with the best kids for the summer and go back to there clubs at the end of summer. Just think of all the friends and memory's that will come from these teams. No club teams only select during summer.
How many years before JAGS goes under? Look at all the teams that left mid-year.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like there are only 13 teams TOTAL in the JAGS U11 age group this spring. That's 11v11 and 8v8 combined.Wow, the wheels are coming off the wagon there!
Even Tom's River and Freehold left for EDP. They should have stayed. The competition in JAGS is more at their level.
I agree 10:01 SJEB not in the top 5 of this age group any longer.Summer select a way to het additional training while some teams/clubs take the time off.
I see 33 teams in Jags for the Spring at U11
9:01That's the number of teams last fall. Go to the schedule section and change the drop down to spring of 2014. I'm still counting 13.If I'm not missing something they dropped from 33 to 13(fall 2013 to spring 2014).
All of the teams on the bottom waiting to be assigned have jumped ship. Mid talent club level now. JAGS dead in 1 year.
Any updates from indoor state cup.
Wow sounds like trouble on this team? What team are they talking about?
Oh that 9:07 post needs to get removed by the administrator pronto. I don't think calling out any U11 player is called for regardless of coach, situation, or club. A comment like that most likely will only have the coach dig his or her heels in deeper. Maybe its time to move to a new club and team?
Who are the BT Lightning? What does BT stand for? Never heard of them?
Is it a boys team? The only Burlington Township Lightning that I see is a boys team at this age.
This is a girls team.
Isn't this a girls soccer blog.
There is a girl BT Lightening team.
I know this blog has been pretty dead this winter and I think that might be a good thing based on how lethal it got with NJX and PDA, but are we really talking about a sub-par Burlington team?
The coach thinks he could take on any PDA team or NJX team and give them a good run.
Rumor has it his team will be at New Jersey cup this spring, you all better run for the hills.

For much more accurate rankings check out:usyouthsoccerrankings.comThis also shows how the different ranking systems compare. Very interesting!
That is not a ranking, it is a copy and paste of the accepted teams in the NJ Cup. So what is the top 5 NJ ranking?
According to GS it is:1, PDA Nova2, NJX3, SJ Elite4, SDFC5, STA
Got Soccer? Are you really relying on tournament points to determine a better team? 5 of the top 10 shouldnt be there.
Steady there 10:24am. I'm just telling the previous poster what gotsoccer says. Name me a method of verifying rankings logically rather than through opinion. There is no way. An expert opinion of the age group could probably rank teams better than a points based system so you 10:24am must be the expert. So do share with us your knowledge on U11 girls soccer in NJ oh wise one....
Not the above poster, but why not look at head to head competition this past fall? Wins and losses versus like teams. I know that information is not readily available..so I guess opinion will prevail.
I think the better question is: why are you making this more competitive than it needs to be? We should avoid being Michael Vicks and discussing U11G teams like they are warring animals. Save it for when it has more meaning to you and your kid - U14-U15.
PDA coaches, don't forget the players pass this spring before you show up to play the game, jackass !!!!!!!
Hey PDA parents, why is that you are not allow to say a word during games are you force to keep your mouth shut by your coach or did you sign some type of contract????
What do you want the PDA parents to say?
@ 7:18PM ....How about this one."Check the score board" :-(
I did. Galaxy lost to Pipeline and a town team at Fort Dix. Good Luck in the NJ cup. Thank goodness you got an easy draw until the Semi-Finals.
7:30, whats wrong with you? Why the sarcasm? You are speaking about 10 and 11 year old girls soccer team. Take a step back.
8:55, the above poster apparently has zero faith in his or her daughter's team if he or she is focused on Galaxy's path. I guess the excuses of why the kid's team lost to Galaxy is occurring before anyone can even start outside training. In sum, the poster is a seer: Galaxy will win and the kid isn't that good. Makes you wonder about their conversations around the table at dinner time.
It is evident what happens at the Galaxy table. PDA won't let me talk at a game, but I can yell at you here!! Daddy is spending $5,000 per year for you to play with this team and you lose? You have to play better because that girl you played against will take your spot when it matters... what a joke.
Another problem GotSoccer really needs to work out: with their recent decision to award 30 points for wins, they have actually given those points to teams that win over that juggernaut of a opponent ... "Bye". "Awards - 12 MonthsSeptember 2013 Match Win +30Opponent: BYEEvent: New Jersey State Cup [U11/12 8v8]"
That guys focus/obsession with galaxy borders creepy.
Does anyone find it ironic that several folks complain about Galaxy not playing enough times in public tournaments so folks can have a shot at them .... and 6:48am's post claiming the Galaxy coach is all about winning? Can't be about winning if you're not taking yourself to place to win in the first place.
I'm not a PDA parent, but I find some of these Galaxy comments ridiculous. Why is anyone concerned that their parents don't say anything on the sidelines? Would they rather hear some of the stupid things being shouted by some of the teams parents we have all encountered at some level? And any mention of rankings without including Galaxy is a joke.
This is probably that same NJX parent looking to bring down the best team in the state. NJX is a good team, but just cant get past Galaxy. Congrats on beating the B/C team in NOVA.
to 8:13 am: Did you ever consider maybe its an NJX parent or some other team Galaxy beat actually defending Galaxy (8:29 PM), and perhaps its a team that beat you at the end of the season banging their chests?
Who did Galaxy lose to? Surprised. They are a great team. Regardless, new season coming. Good luck to all!
Any early predictions on final 4 in NJ cup? Looks like it is going to be a great tournament.
Great. NJ Cup has 11v11 and 8v8. Now we have to pick a final 8. Good news, looks like most teams should be able to breeze through the first round.
Any idea if Manhattan Cup going to be played. In it's entirety?
Hey 2:15, there is know such thing as a breeze in the first round! We may not win,but they will be limping off the field, trying to play in the second round. Oh by the way, your welcome for that!!!!!!!
Know = noYour = you'reCompelled to translate for the literate and educated.
Must have been the case of beer me and my eleven year old daughter was drinking, thanks for correcting me.
Hey 4:55. I am sure that the 2:15 poster was talking about the fact that only a handful of teams are playing in the first round and the rest have a bye round. (idiot) and secondly..really? limping off the field? I feel bad for your daughter...can't beat them, hurt them is not a way to go through life brother.
We will soften them up, just like a piece of tuff veal after you beat the piss out of it, so all can enjoy!
Top 5:1. NJX2. PDA Nova3. PDA Galaxy4. Hamilton5. Jackson
Agreed 10:19. Think Hamilton and Jackson are a toss up for 4th, but neither are ready to jump Galaxy just yet. Maybe this Spring. I am interested to see if PDA Nova can be consistent vs. new competition this Spring in EDP.
With all of this snow they are going to have to cancel the spring challenge this weekend. Early march tournaments in NJ are not a smart thing
Hamilton and Jackson in top 5? Really?
Who would replace Hamilton and Jackson?
Any of the following are better than those twoSJ EliteSDFCSTATSFMaximusRAGE
That is laughable.
Jackson has consistently performed at a high level. Not on that team, but anyone who doesn't think so hasn't been watching. And they were the "town" team that beat Galaxy that everyone was so curious about. They can beat anyone. Fast, strong and intense. All the teams listed in 4:48's post are strong teams too and any of these teams can beat each other on any given day. Too soon to call a top 5 or even a top 10. The spring will show a lot. Bet that there will be a lot of shifts as the girls have had a season to adapt to the larger field for those playing 11v11.
I always scratch my head when I see these lists. "NJX 1st place" over Galaxy, despite Galaxy beating them 2-0 in the most recent tournament either played ... "Any of the following are better" despite Hamilton beating RAGE 3-1 and TSF 2-0 in the Fall ... - EE
So then Jackson should be #1...
Don't you people see the game being played? They list the top 5, listing NJX as 1st, then all season they will point back to their own post saying how NJX declared themselves to be the best. They also list Nova ahead of Galaxy. I suspect the person posting is the Lyon parent from last season, but that's pure speculation. I'd like to see someone list a top 10 in no particular order, so then maybe people can give an honest opinion. I'm not going to try since I have no idea of all the head to head scores others on here have cited.
Ranking at this age level is difficult with the landscape of leagues and tournaments adopting 8v8 and 11v11. You have strong 8v8 and 11v11 teams that never see each other or do not play enough games against each other to determine who is better. Teams can change drastically due to this format change. VA, PA, NC play 8v8 to U12 resulting to more touches and better individual development so grouping should be seperate on who plays 8v8 and 11v11.
In no particular order these are the teams that I think are vying for top ten status. By the end of the spring season and through the fall we'll have a better idea for how best to slot them in the top 10. For now, best to just create an unranked top 10 and see how things play out going forward. GalaxyNovaJacksonHamilton - NJ RushRage SJEBNJXSDFCSTA MorrisTSFFC MaximusFunny, I created the list above BEFORE looking at Gotsoccer to see if I forgot any obvious choices and the lists were pretty similar - not taking into account who belongs where in the list.
Between Gotsoccer and this website it should be pretty easy to develop a "watchlist" for top 10.http://usyouthsoccerrankings.com/
Except that http://usyouthsoccerrankings.com/lists the two PDA teams (Galaxy and Crew) under U12, not U11.- EE
That's because they've been playing a lot of games up at U12. It'll get more accurate as time passes and teams start playing all 11v11 games and age appropriately. I know some of the older age groups quite well and I was surprised by how much more accurate that site was than Gotsoccer. In any event neither site is completely accurate.
Those youthsoccerrankings need to be fixed .... unless you can explain why PDA Storm is ranked nationally at 37 AND 68!
never said they were perfect just another source that seems relatively useful at least when compared to the gotsoccer source and personal opinions
This is another rankings website which has proven itself to me to be very inaccurate over the years. It's based solely on the opinion of "experts" and I use the term loosely. It's 100% opinion based. http://www.nationalsoccerranking.com/index.htmAt least Gotsoccer and US Youth Soccer Rankings have a statistical methodology. National Soccer Ranking is no more or less accurate than the opinions put forth here.
Here is my accurate opinion, nobody wants to read your rankings gibberish. NJX is #1
#1? Didn't they lose to a u 10 team last year? Remember there is always some one out there better than you.
Once again someone trying to post as an NJX parent declaring to be #1. I hope everyone is smart enough to see its most likely from someone whose daughter couldn't make the team, or even more likely from the same Lyon parent, who shortly thereafter responded to her own post to make sure everyone knows Lyon beat them.

Rankings at U11 are a joke and unnecessary. It doesn't matter who beats who on any given day. I think everyone on this board would agree that NJ has some of the best girls soccer talent in the country. Player Development is all that matters at this age.
I would like to know more about making money online without any work. I would never believe it but it must be true if it made the blog!
Anyone know field conditions in Hammonton for this weekend's Spring Challenge. I heard they were still snow covered? Anyone from down there have some input on field conditions?
my friend lives in hammonton and he says the snow is just about gone. a little rain tomorrow and the rest will be gone. I dont think they care about field conditions, as long as there is no snow. Too much money at stake
Ok, thanks for the info.
MSSL Spring Challenge Update:ALL GAMES FOR MARCH 8 & 9 ARE CANCELLED. Complete explanation has been emailed to all Team Managers and Coaches.
Anyone get to play this past weekend? Windy and cold, but sunny.
any thoughts on pda shore. when are tryouts
I think PDA will do it right and try to make those teams competitive. It may take a couple of years to do so but I think they'll be able to do it.
lots of talent at the shore. if they can keep it in the area they should have some ok teams
Did I read the Jeff Cup scores correctly? NJX Sol was shut out today? Annihilated 9-0 in their second game? Some crappy soccer out of the team who was bragging about themselves in the fall here on the blogspot.
They didn't win a game and were outscored 16-0, rough weekend. Parents should stay off blogs. Frankly takling up your team and down anyones is pathetic at U11.
Listen to the pot calling the kettle black. They got roughed up this weekend, but by probably the best teams in the country. You have to be in it to win it and it sounds like you and your team were on the sidelines.
Holy crap - that is a beating. And such a nice team that never talk about how great they are.
That would be one long drive home with an unhappy I kid I would gladly avoid. They did talk about themselves in the fall. Feel free to scroll back.
I can see why you would think that, but if you know about this blog, it was probably another teams parent stirring the pot. NJX parents are unassuming and professional. Coming from their biggest competitor.
Who is their biggest competitor? Shows you are all over the blog and can't help yourself. Was it really 9 - 0 or was that a typo?
Blowouts like that have to make us all pause and think if going to tournaments like Jeff Cup at this age are worth the possible consequences. It's great if you win or can play with the other teams. But if you lose, and in this instance take a beating in one of the games, is it worth the mental and emotional damage to a kid who is probably playing good soccer?
PDA GalaxyI can help myselfYes, it was 9-0And yes.... You are pathetic.
Was it worth going to Jeff Cup NJX?
It is so funny when you have a mommy blogger - they can't help themselves. If PDA is your biggest competitor - you have bigger issues. This age bracket is very strong and you will need to get thru some solid teams. Sounds like you think PDA and you are number one and two at u11, in some order. I think there are a top 5 to 8 in age group that can win on any given day.We will watch your team and see how the season goes, sounds like you should win everything.
So true - there are many great teams in this age bracket. For some reason NJX thinks they are the best and only PDA can compete with them. I would put 5 other teams up against them any day. Galaxy is a good team, but there are many more as good or better, as you saw this past weekend. Watch out mommy bear!
5 teams? Maybe 3. Pipeline from MD didn't fair too well either. EDP South should be fun to watch this season. EDP North definitely the weaker flight.
I was at Jeff cup this weekend. I think I've pretty much seen every top U11 team in NJ, most several times. I can tell you this, folks can bicker on here about who is this and who is that , most top nj teams here are within a goal or two of each other. But the soccer you would have seen from arsenal of southern cal , waza of michigan and cincinatti would make your head spin. Consider that pipeline just beat PDA galaxy and won the big end of fall tourney in ft Dix, shut them out. And NJX beat pipeline and also won state cup. In Jeff cup they were beaten up pretty badly. No team in nj could even be on the field with those three teams at Jeff cup , you would not believe how good these girls were, made our teams look ridiculous. I would easily say that I have not seen one u11 girl in Nj who would have any chance of making any one of those three teams at Jeff cup. They'd be cut in a second. Moral of the story, we've got some nice teams around here but they can't hold a candle to what's out there, as evidenced by pipeline and NJX this weekend , two teams who have faired very nicely around here. But I think they will take some good things away from having played at that ridiculously high speed of play. SDFC also had a rough weekend at 8v 8, the competition down there is just that good, makes a galaxy or pipeline or sol look like a rec team.
I would think us posters in here would want pipeline and Nxj to do well in a national tournament. Knowing they do well in this area but were shutout badly down there doesn't exactly inspire confidence. One team maybe, but both saw the same outcome and tied each other . Tells me those other regional teams are probably 5, 6 or more goals better than anyone up here. I think that's to be expected though, those are pretty wide ranging regional teams that cast a big net. They probably have some of the best players from a wide area.
My daughter plays SDFC and we had it rough in Richmond, but my wife's niece plays for pipeline in MD. She said the girls enjoyed playing against some of those girls particularly a few from CA and one from Cincy who are nationally targeted players for the US teams in a couple years. They had their pictures taken with them to say they played against them one day. That must be pretty cool. I watched some of the CA and MI game, wow, you would think they were u15. I was talking to a CA dad and he said they had guests from as far as TX and Hawaii.
I watched the team from CA and Ohio and they played such an athletic game. Far different then the overly technical East Coast philosophy. So fast and moving forward. Ball after ball played through and controlled. It looked like they had patterned their game after the US Womens team. Balls over the top . Balls out wide. Breakaways. It was fun to watch even thou they killed my daughters team.
Question for U11 parents/coaches. Since some teams are in transition between 8v8 or 11v11 going into U12. Each academy/club and states (PA, NJ, NY, DE) have different opinions and different rules/agendas. Which do you prefer? I know 8v8 is great for individual development but are the games more geared for results to win vs. 11v11being geared to balance of competiveness of an enitire team together. I would like to see Opinions on this by state. PA parent
11:07am. You answered your own question. 8v8 is the way that players are developed so it should be the norm to play it at U12. I can speak from seeing my oldest play 11v11 when she was 11 a few years back and my daughter now who plays 8v8 at the same age. The one who is playing 8v8 has developed a lot more and sees a lot more of the ball in games. It does make me laugh that PDA (Players Development Academy) have some of their U10s and U11s playing 11v11. I'd like to know why a Development Academy chooses to do something that is so opposite to developing their players.
3:28pm. Thanks. Yes I totally agree I do not understand why some of these so called pay to play academy programs state development but more younger kids U10/U11 to 11v11, unless they so advance in there abilities to move them that it takes away from others at the same age group not getting playing time. The difficult part is for all those parents looking to bring there child to a tryout this coming spring, I think each club needs to state if they are staying 8v8 or going 11v11 for U12 or both.
PDA does it to make the players tougher and more athletic, similar to the above comments about the MI & OH teams. Trying to work in both: technical skill & athleticism.
11 vs. 11 allows more roster spots which equals more revenue fir PDA. Thinking that they would be staring down a 9-0 loss at Jeff cup too.
At least PDA has 2 teams for its players. It's better than having 1 team of 20 players who rotate for games and playing time. Talk about a cash cow!
Who lost 9-0?
Any one out there have advice on how to play SJEB this weekend?
5:13pm. You can't be serious? PDA plays 11v11 to make the players tougher?! and more athletic?PDA does it for the money. It's not for development. If they were truly interested in development they would play 8v8 at U10 and U11 and U12. They don't.Town teams see the logic in small sided up to U12 hence MNJYSA having more and more 8v8 flights. The biggest soccer countries in the world play small sided up to U13. Seems like an obvious choice to any reasoned person on what is best for the development of players.
In NJ the talent at U11 is far less consolidated than in other parts of the country. To say no U11 in NJ could make any of those three teams is either ridiculous or there is a statistical anomaly in the U11 age group and it's the weakest group in 50 years.
You are correct that the talent is far less consolidated. Same for the girls we have at pipeline, md is similar. We have too many teams so talent is spread thin. But this is also a very weak crop currently in NJ. I'll amend what I said, there are girls in nj who could play with those girls, although few in this crop, but they are just not getting the coaching and training that those 3 teams at Jeff cup are at this point. There is a girl on Cincy who is about 5 10 and runs like a deer, almost unstoppable, nobody on nj is near her .
For the person who asked for advice on SJEB. They are a very good team, excellent skills. They have one forward who is big and fast. Scores most of their goals. I would make sure to shut her down and force someone else to beat me. She will beat any one player covering her. Just my two cents. Believe she is number 10 but you'll know soon enough. Fantastic talent.
SJEB passes the ball more than any team we've ever played against. I'd go so far as to say they pass it too much. Put as much pressure on the ball as possible to disrupt their flow. They have some weak links technically that will turn the ball over if pressured. The previous poster was right about the number on that forward, but she's not big at all, so maybe they are thinking of someone else. She's still the player to focus on. Let us know how that works out for you.
Stay away from playing a flat back against SJEB. Play Stopper/Sweeper. Make sure your striker stays high as they can be beat over the top. Defense is middle of the road at best.
To: March 18, 2014 at 11:00 PMRegarding town teams "seeing the logic in small sided", I believe it is less about "seeing the logic" then it is about simple numbers. For town teams, jumping from 8v8 to 11v11 often means cannibalizing B teams, bringing up Rec-level players, or trying desperately to recruit out-of-towners, all compounded by the problem of losing their best players' to non-volunteer Clubs. As far as towns seeing the logic, just attend a few coaches/board meetings when discussing small-sided, and listen to the outcry from ill-informed volunteer coaches that "small-sided isn't REAL soccer!!!" Logic is not usually found in abundance at those meetings.- EE
11:01 no anomaly. PDA teams historically have not done well at Jeff cup, except for current u15 team. That's why they've stopped bringing their younger teams to these national tournaments.
Does anyone know if the dominant teams from the Jeff Cup were Academy Teams like PDA?
To the poster that asked about SJEB I wouldn't even focus on that one player, unless you are prepared to use 2-3 players in the effort. She has a great all around game. She dribbles better than any player I've seen, so trying to take the ball will frustrate you. She is an excellent distributor and she can finish from distance. If anything, take her penetrating dribble away by staying goal-side and LET her give the ball up - then pressure that player, lol! Seriously, just let her or force her to pass the ball to someone else. Obviously try to deny forward passes, but allow lateral or drop passes.
Sjeb #10 the whole team rest of team is nothing special.
You guys have to much time on your hands....analyzingU11 girls soccer. We don't worry about other teams strengths. We play our game and let teams worry abouth our strengths. If you have 11 players that are on the same page & knowTheir roles. One player will not beat a completeTeam.
Who else is playing this weekend? We know SJEB is.
I agree, maybe the person who asked for the original scouting report can get back to us on how that all worked out and we can move on to other discussions.
I have not seen 1 prolific scorer on any of these teams (including this #10 from SJEB) No super stars on any team. This makes it great for NJ vs. NJ, but we might be in trouble vs National Competition as seen at Jeff Cup.
7:29amEDP website only shows an 8v8 game for FC Maximus and SDFC AztecsJAGS website is a complete mess! Nothing publicly available there.NJ Cup website has a few games scheduled which I won't bother listing but give the link:http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=451538&tclass=U11%20Girls%2011v11I assume based on previous posts that Delran is playing SJEB in NJ Cup, even though the date isn't entered on the site.Tough to figure it all out because so many games have been rescheduled due to weather.MSSL tournament doesn't have a U11 bracket anymore, but a few teams playing in their U12 bracket this weekend.Things get rolling next weekend, so there will be more to talk about then.
@1:08pmI don't think the Club that won at JC is worried aboutIt's future team playing National Competition. So why are you so concerned?
Will this age group be able to compete when it counts? I dont think so. NJ ECNL Academies are currently watered down with kids with parents that can afford it, but really dont belong. They will be hard pressed to field a well developed TEAM in the future.
PDA Spring Kickoff schedule up (https://events.gotsport.com/events/default.aspx?EventID=36708)Disagree with a couple flighting choices, but should be an enjoyable weekend.- EE
Thanks for posting the schedule. Which flighting choices do you disagree with EE?-CM
I don't think Syracuse belongs in the top flight. Maybe it was done for geographical diversity (instead of putting Breakers up there, which would mean 3 teams from Massachusetts that probably all know each other well already). But Syracuse came down here for the MAPS Cup in November, scored 0 and gave up 13. Their best outing was a 0-0 draw against Freehold, which is in Flight 2 (which I think is their correct flight). As to the NJ teams, I probably would have placed NJ Rush in top flight instead of PDA Nova. - EE
Syracuse and TSF should be in second flight and, coincidentally, are in Galaxy’s bracket. Doubt Breakers were left out to avoid teams familiar with another. Nova, NJX, and Pipeline are in the same EDP conference and have played each other numerous times already. Also not surprised Breakers were not put in same group as Crew.
Thanks EE, I didn't know that about Syracuse. I agree NJ Rush deserves to be in top bracket. Looks like Galaxy may have a shot at redemption against Pipeline.CM
Galaxy definitely got the "home club" draw
Wow, I don't buy in to too much that's written on here but I'm starting to believe Galaxy doesn't want to play the top teams. They have a pretty easy bracket and threw NJX, Nova, and Pipeline together! And Hamilton in the second bracket??
I'm the first to say Galaxy is the top u11 team in NJ, and I'm sure the players want to play the best teams. But it sure looks like PDA has an agenda. Galaxy gets a walk to the finals, and Crew in the easier bracket at the next level. Be interesting to see if Nova can win their bracket and take on Galaxy in the final-CM
I don't see Nova winning their bracket and reaching the final. As for Crew's bracket, they do get to avoid Breakers until a potential final, but other than that, I wouldn't say their bracket is easier than the other. Cherry Hill in their bracket beat Freehold of the other bracket in the Fall, and FSA in their bracket tied NJ Rush from the other bracket in the Fall. And Crew beat Stallions from the other bracket 4-0 in the Fall.Having done flighting for a tournament before, it's not easy; it's not perfect; and no matter how it comes out someone will be unhappy or question the results. Fortunately, this isn't a World Cup draw.- EE
Anyone know why Jackson isn't playing PDA tourney? Scared I guess??
TSF & Syracuse----shouldn't be in top bracket.
Yes Jackson is scared. Scared they may beat Galaxy again and the Galaxy parents heads may explode because they pay all that money and still can't beat a town team who loses players every year, loses them to weaker teams but who charge more money. Thanks for the laugh!
Thanks for info on SJEB, you guys called it right. They played just like you said, #10 an #19 are the strongest players on the team. They pass the ball very well.
What was the outcome against SJEB?-CM
So why isn't Jackson playing? Seems all of the top competition is in PDA. I think the coach has something to do with it.
5:43They actually have two good players? Because we've been hearing on this forum that they're just a one man show. I assumed you were from Delran and it was an NJ Cup game but that's not posted so who knows.
Jackson is playing in the State Cup, so any talk of them being "afraid" is nonsense. Maybe they have families who would prefer to take vacation during spring break then to play soccer. There is more to life, isn't there?-CM
One good player on sjeb PERIOD.
I sincerely doubt Jackson was afraid of anything - I know they've competed at PDA Spring Kickoff previously, as well as other good tournaments, and are in EDP this Spring - perhaps they applied and simply weren't accepted due to the high number of teams. Who knows? If you have an issue with the Jackson coach, it would be terrific if you kept that off-line, so the 2002/2003 forum doesn't devolve to the level of the 2001/2002 forum.- EE
EEI agree, if you look at the U12 forum you'll get a sense for what we don't want this forum to be. Same can be said to the all caps guy making claims about SJEB being a one player team. That's such a ridiculous claim it must be coming from a disgruntled ex-player. It's that sort of sour grapes which takes down the quality of discussions in general.
Yes would be nice to actually discuss soccer and not just rip teams apart. I'm curious how Delran did now. SJEB is a very good team. They are far more than just 1 good player. But like many teams do who have a star, when they need a goal that's who they go to. Nova has several former SJEB players and may play them in State Cup again. Interesting. -CM
5-0 SJEB over Delran and #10 didn't score any goals from what I heard.
Back to the Jeff Cup - To the person that posted that some of the players on the CA and MI teams are on national radar: How do you know at u11 who is on the national radar? I'm just curious how that is determined already.
yes. Do tell!
Looks like most interesting New Jersey Cup game coming up is SJEB/Hamilton. Most other top teams are heavy favorites. I'll make my final 4 prediction, although I'm unsure about a few games for my overall bracket. Galaxy vs Nova on the left sideCrew vs Jackson on the right sideGalaxy over Jackson in the final. No, I'm not a PDA coach/parent/trainer-CM
No Doubt that Galaxy has the easiest route to the Final 4. Your prediction says that Jackson will get by NJX. They haven't beat them yet. Tied 3-3 and lost 2 games 1-0. What makes you think this season is different? Not sure if Crew gets by TSF or Galaxy gets by NOVA. Might be NOVAs year.
Galaxy will have no problem getting by Nova. I do agree, however, that TSF/Crew will be a test for both teams, with the winner the favorite to make the semifinals.I'm sure all the other games played this weekend will be equally enjoyable, as well as meaningful, to those players and families involved. Temperatures should be ok, though possibly with some rain. Enjoy every game.- EE
Overall I'd say the road to the finals is far easier on the right side of the bracket than the left. I think SJEB drew the short straw having Delran, Hamilton, Nova(likely) and Galaxy(likely) then the right side winner.Galaxy walks into the semi-finals!
Nova is very good but I think Galaxy takes them. Yes SJEB definitely has the toughest path. If memory serves correct, they did last fall as well. I think Crew is a better team than TSF, but game will be close. My Jackson call over NJX was tough. Just a hunch. Those teams always seem to play close, NJX had a tough go at Jeff Cup, and defending your title will be tough mentally on the players. They don't score much, and the ball won't always bounce your way in 1 goal games. Jackson also beat Pipeline and Galaxy in the fall, which means they can beat anyone. Doesn't mean they will, but supports my prediction for an upset.Should be a fun Spring!-CM
How about the 8V8 bracket? Not much competition there so I'd have to go with Rage Renegades, SDFC Rage from the left along with NJ Crush Flames and FC Maximus from the right.Renegades and Maximus get through to finals and....Renegades the winner! Our team has been playing 11v11 so we haven't faced most of them for some time. Just putting it out there for those that might have better feedback and to keep the dialogue going.Nice to see everyone keeping things civil. No need for team bashing with all this. We're all just guessing and the results will speak for themselves soon enough.
CM, so who do you think knocks off SJEB? Hamilton or Nova? Either one could do it. All those teams will be playing in EDP as well, so there's going to be some good rivalries developing as the season play out. I think Hamilton will squeak by with their home field advantage. SJEB is much tougher on their home turf. Either way I think Nova is the winner next round if they are the home team. More of a toss up if Nova is away that next round.
Tough call 12:10 but I tend of agree with you. The top right bracket is a wildcard, not sure who makes it it to game 53, but I suspect they won't get past there. Arsenal/Stronghold are also question marks. Since NJX is former Middletown it would be heated if they meet. Nova is loaded with former SJEB, so that game too would be tense.Toms River vs Freehold will be a good game. Freehold prevails, but unfortunately have to face Galaxy.
Predicting a NOVA/Jackson Final with Nova prevailing in a tight game.
That would mean Nova over Galaxy in the semis which might ruffle some feathers!
12:34 - Nova isn't really loaded with former SJEB players. They have 5 players that migrated over and not all of them are top players. Still, Nova is a tough team all around, but definitely beatable. Good match ups for sure!
That also means Jackson over NJX. I dont think that will happen, but if it does, NJX absolutely has taken a step backwards in the off season.
Regarding Jeff Cup, two sources, one, the parents/spectators of the three teams all said a few players were already on a national player development and DI college radar. Particularly one girl from Cincy and several from SoCal (two of which were guest players one from Hawaii and one from TX). Two, the coaches from UVA and U MD were actually at the game because there was another game being played they were there to watch, they knew #10 from Cincy as well as #5 from SoCal. Let me put it this way, several of these girls were so good that you would honestly think they were u15 players, if they played in a state cup game or EDP U11 game here in NJ they would stick out like a sore thumb.
all you have to do is use Pipeline and NJX as a measuring stick. Those two teams are at least competitively at the top of NJ and EDP U11 soccer in this area, NJX a state cup champ and Pipeline the big Ft Dix champ over Jackson, NJ and Galaxy this fall. They lost a combined 30 something to 1 against the three other Jeff Cup teams. What does that tell you about those three other teams?
Sounds like those teams brought ringers. If NJ sent a couple all stars, the same thing would happenIf they are that good. They will make it to ECNL.As for them being on the national radar @ u11...........Ever hear of Freddy Adu :-)-MF
they may regress and other girls will certainly progress, but these girls were head and shoulders above any individual talent in NJ. NJ could send whatever U11 players they want and they weren't beating those three teams.
Pipeline beat Galaxy last fall, however Galaxy has added new players. Will make a difference. Any team can and will be beaten. Hope these are the two final teams.
