Guess this person was correct;Top flight groups:FCV, PDA, MRM, SDAStallions, Bucks, Ponte Vedra, PWSIJanuary 22, 2014 at 12:59 PMSchedule is up!
PDA vs MRM once and for all. Winner takes all bragging rights. This could be the last time the two teams ever play again in a scheduled tournament.
Its a showcase and MRM will be missing players for ODP Russia trip.
so will pdaI guess we will see who has the deepest bench then
Most MRM Coyotes chose not to play ODP this season. Only two on the 97s and none on 98s.The slow defender girl dropped out. Both Benches are weak after the first 13/14. Roster fillers.\/$$$
Id rather see NJU vs FCV and FCB then MRM vs PDA.
you people have no clue-- Nobody from PDA is on ODP -- second of all how well do you think these games are going to be when neither team has practiced outside yet.Third nobody cares about rankings any more it is all about college recruitment.I am sure it will be a good game but winner takes all bragging rights??? Really ??Get a life
I think you will find that the 97 players from MRM are also not doing ODP this year. Participation in the Russia trip is based on playing ODP last year.Further, anyone who attaches any significance to match results at Jefferson Cup merely demonstrates the depths of his ignorance. Stallions, PDA, and MRM have already acquitted themselves against the best that the region and the nation have to offer. Certainly, none of them have anything to prove in Richmond.Instead, the previous poster is correct: the primary focus at this point is finding the right fit for college.Oh, and by the way, everyone who speculated on this board about groups was wrong; seems there are none, just each team plays three games, not necessarily against common opponents: http://events.gotsport.com/events/schedule.aspx?EventID=32803&GroupID=291526&Gender=Girls&Age=16
Not that it is a big deal, but the original poster had the groups right. He didn't say they would cross over he just had the teams that would be playing each other correct.
If college is now the focus, How does the 17th,18th,19th player's on these teams benefit? Is just being on one of these teams good enough to get looks and offers? No question that the starters on all the above teams will get opportunities to play college, and some have offers already, But what about the others? Is it better to BE on a great team, or play and start for a very good team?
PDA has been slightly above average at best. They have alot to prove in my eyes. Who was their last quality win against a big time ranked team? I agree MRM and NJS are top notch teams but I wouildnt but PDA with those two or even third in that flight.
FC Philadelphia is the team to beat.
Rankings are not perfect, but can give a good idea of quality teams in groups of Top 10, or top 20, or even for that matter a top 50.PDA Arsenal is 176th. ? Do colleges even look at teams out of the top 100 ? What about the non-starters on a 176th team ?
FC Philadelphia cant buy a win. What are they like 1-9-6 their last 16 or something crazy like that.Scrappy little team that ate up all the points in 2nd and 3rd tier flight. Then over the past year they were flighted with the big girls and it hasnt been pretty.
College coaches care less for the ranking of the team than about the skills and potential of the player. PDA's GS ranking is irrelevant; it just means they don't play in very many events that earn them GS points. But the ECNL events allow them to play in front of plenty of college coaches, and I would think that the involvement of college coaches with the PDA program and the presence of national team players increase the opportunities for everyone to be noticed. As to other question, that is often raised in attempt to stir something up. While every kid would prefer playing over not playing, sometimes training with a better team (even if you play less in matches) can be exactly what the kid needs to become college-ready. And there are avenues beyond match play with the club team that enable a player to be evaluated by college coaches.
"Anonymous said...FC Philadelphia is the team to beat.February 19, 2014 at 4:19 PM"And all three of their opponents will likely do just that...
I would just add to 12:05 by saying that though the statement about ranking is true, the level and success of the team matters as well as it is a strong indicator of the qualities of the individual players. In assessing the skills and potential of players, it surely would take some guesswork out of the equation to see those players play against top competition. That's why college coaches generally don't bother to watch high school games.
Does anyone use Captain U. Any thoughts good bad? Thanks
Waste of money
Hey coach, Thanks for coming, sorry you didn't get to see me play today. Tomorrow we play a real bad ecnl team, so I should get some playing time.
Arsenal with good start to the ecnl. 2 wins, Go PDA
Both matches where pretty even. Both pa teams played great. Both games could of went either way.Great start to the season.
The PDA-Bucks game should've been 3-0 in PDA favor. Their national team player put on a show and PDA had some great opportunites where bucks didn't really threaten. Bucks coach is a lunatic! That was more entertaining than the national palyer!
Just do not understand PDA parents? Clean-up the language and try to be a good example to your children.
PDA stands for Put Down Anyone
Clean up the language? You must be confusing PDA parents with the Bucks coach.
Yes. The Bucks coach gets a little loud in his Instructions/Directions, but PDA parents are just awful on the sidelines and especially after game. Sailors!
Cototes take a big hit and start to slip. Where is that Defense they use to have, or have some left for Bethesda?
ECNL. Hmm, not so "Elite"
bucks coach a little loud dropping the f bomb at the refs and yelling at the ref for advantage while his own player down holding her nose. Seems like all he cares about is winning! About the game being even? the score should've been 3-0 and bucks didn't even have a shot. it took the entire back line to try to control the national player and she still managed to almost score twice and sent in a great ball for the goal. Call it like it is and your coach is very entraining! I would doubt your coach to,
FCV and Bucks have a pretty easy time beating up and third rate ECNL opponents most of the time but neither gave the Stallions much of a game once they had to venture outside the League and play the best of the other side. Saw numerous ECNL teams this weekend and college coaches are sadly missing out on some better players if all they can go to is the ECNL showcases due to budgetary reasons. These teams were just not that good
Disagree re: the VA team. Stallions appreciated the level of competition. Nice for a change to play a team that strung some passes together. Thanks for a good game. Stallions parent.
what happened to the coyotes at Jefferson Cup??
Coyotes falling. Some players have left to Bethesda. Better coaching and college connections at Bethesda. Wrong move to join Maryland Rush, but coach gets paid big dollars to be DC of U-9 and U-10's. Wonder where his time is going. The assisitant coach which is a great trainer is leaving. Sinking ship, don't be the last to jump.
Wow it's gone quiet on this board, especially after such a big weekend of competition. One can only assume that the talkers on this board, was clearly NOT from NJS.
Who is NJS?Do you mean NJSA?They have been gone for 3 years already.
No...that's not who they mean. But making a comment like "Wow [really...adults use the word "wow"?]..the talkers on this board was clearly not from 'Team X'" is pretty much a tip off that you're from 'Team X'. The complete lacking of the ability to use proper grammar is pretty much a tip off that you're the coach.
"The complete lacking of the ability to use proper grammar is pretty much a tip off that you're the coach"That's pretty interesting grammar in itself. So what team do you coach?
What is going on with Bucks?????
Coyotes no wins in 5 games- taking on water. New players are an add or distraction ? 0-2-3We will miss you at Nationals.
Coyotes just clinched a third straight trip to Nationals....not sure what "We will miss you at Nationals" means.
All just fine in Coyote world. New girl is best on team and bonding well. Having movie night this weekend for more team chemistry.
Y'all are so full of it. I'm all for intelligent analysis and discussion of topics relevant to this age group, but this ongoing sniping at successful teams is both immature and tiresome. It doesn't matter who the team is; these are 16-year-old kids playing a game. Evidence-based commentary is always welcome, but ignorant or mean-spirited comments made for the purpose of antagonizing readers do nothing to promote a civilized atmosphere for discussion.Soccer fans in Region 1 are fortunate to have several highly successful players and teams to watch and root for. Like them or not, we really should appreciate the remarkable accomplishments many of these teams have accumulated, rather than constantly trying to spread rumors and sow discord by repeating blatant factual inaccuracies.Maybe it's the luxury of anonymity, but this forum does seem to bring out the childishness in too many posters. Here's an idea: instead of tearing down the teams that have accomplished far beyond what your team has or likely ever will, why not go put in the work necessary to try to elevate your own (or, more likely, your kid's) team to that level?
Congrats to the coyotes on a third straight bid to nationals, what an accomplishment. Heard one of their players is in Russia with the u17 national team, incredible! Could be a reason why they haven't been playing as well. Nonetheless, every team goes through slumps. No doubt they will be ready for nationals as always!
Funny how a "rough patch" for the coyotes is still good enough to clinch a berth to nationals. Man what a failure!
@March 23, 9:22 AM: statistically speaking, the odds are that you will miss the Coyotes at Nationals, since only one other Region 1 team will earn the privilege of participating at the Soccerplex in July. That team may well be Stallions, whose trip to Nationals is overdue. Can Syracuse, PWSI, or anyone else beat out Stallions? That's the big question to be answered at URI this summer.
^statistically speaking, the coyotes clinched a nationals berth yesterday when legends tied Boise national 2-2 in Vegas. Two region 1 teams will be at nationals.
And they say coaches do not read this blog. Facts are that the Southern Regional teams are slowly falling. Coyotes have not won a game in their last 5 or 6 and PWSI will get demoted out of Region 1 and then what. Maryland United with their college coach will be the new team to beat in the Mid-Atlantic. A parent said a few weeks ago here that no Coyotes are going to Russia, just sounds like excuses for being the new tie/lose Team.Good thing PDA has found it's winning ways again and peaking at just the right time for great college exposure. As most know, 6 Arsonals' have full D1 rides so far. Just the facts coachy
Facts are pesky things:1. Posted on 2/18/14, 8:15 pm: "I think you will find that the 97 players from MRM are also not doing ODP this year. Certainly, none of them have anything to prove in Richmond."Nothing said about anyone not going to Russia.2. "PWSI will get demoted out of Region 1...". No, I am pretty sure Virginia will remain in Region 1, and thus PWSI as well. But if you meant something slightly different, technically nobody gets relegated from R1PL; each year is a new season, with many of the spots earned based on prior year's achievements> Are you positive that PWSI will neither finish in the top 4 in the South this season, nor win their pool in Rhode Island (when you don't even know who will be in their pool)? Because either accomplishment earns them a spot in R1PL next year.3. It took less than two minutes of searching to find out that the Coyotes won their most recent game.4. I haven't seen anyone provide any excuses--not has anyone offered any explanations--for the Coyotes losing two matches and drawing three others in recent weeks. Every team goes through disappointing stretches; it's how the best teams respond to adversity that make them perennial winners. You seem to be reading what you imagine the words to say. Let's face it: neither PWSI nor MRM are at their peaks right now, but not only do they not have to be there now, they don't want to be there now. For PWSI, they need to be at their best by June 27; for MRM, the target date is July 22. If either team peaks at the right time, they could go a long way.And FWIW, there is no shortage of Division I attention for any of the top teams in the region. There are plenty of players on each of the best teams with multiple offers in hand, including several who have made it clear that they are not ready to commit at this time.
It is curious... why would a team go to Jefferson Cup at the U-16 age group, and not compete as if they have something to prove? Are you saying an established team like the coyotes is using the Jefferson Cup as a warm-up, and finishing second to last in their division is how they will get ready for the "real" competitions and peak at just the right moment?? There are a lot of curious explanations and excuses as to why teams are winning or losing, and to what end? There should be more parity among the top teams as the girls get older, and teams who were dominant at U13 and U14 may find much stiffer competition at U16 and older age groups. I think that is the most simple and most likely explanation for why some of the most dominant teams at younger ages are now struggling a bit.
Who said anyone went to Jefferson Cup and didn't compete? I read the quoted excerpt above as saying that there are several teams that didn't need to prove any thing, perhaps suggesting that wins and losses were less important than showcasing players before college coaches. To the poster's point, however, no mention is made of players going or not going to Russia.
In last 6 games, coyotes have one win against a townie local Maryland team. so when playing some real teams ,coyotes can not currently win. 0-3-2. How is that new super star forward working out? she must have been in Russia or on the u-18 national team lately.
2:48 Okay we get it- you have some sort of a grudge against this team. There's no reason be calling out any of the players to sharpen your knives. Try to remember that they are still children and, as such, deserve respect and privacy.
So, you are suggesting the coyotes were trying to showcase players in deference to winning matches... do the players not being showcased know that? Again, my point is that teams who were dominant as 12 and 13 year olds may not be at 15 and 16... that would be reality, not some hidden strategy to peak at the right time, or showcase individual players. There are some strong teams in this region, and the coyotes are still one of them... they are just not as dominant. Nothing more, nothing less.
Good post 9:54Teams change and grow as the players develop and peak. Getting teams through these situations is a coaching challenge. New players are needed whether the team realises it or not. Makes everyone step-up.
Jade Ruiters on the Coyotes was in and I still believe currently is in Russia competing, just to clear up any confusion.
You tell us what is going on with Bucks!!! You are probably the one starting all of the problems.Leave Chris alone.
For the record only 3 girls from PDA Arsenal have committed so far all 3 are going to Rutgers and 2 are 2015 graduates. As for the Jeff cup it wasn't about winning it was about getting all the girls on all the rosters exposure since there were plenty of coaches around. That is why it is called a showcase not a tournament. Nobody wants to lose of course and the girls always play hard for every team but all the coaches will tell you that is what was going on.
PAE dominate MASS in the weekend match-ups so far.PF 3:0 ScorpionsFCB 2:0 Stars of Mass.
No names, please. I believe that is one of the forum rules.
Matchfit 2 PDA 1 New sherif in townThat is like the step child coming into the ecnl and being mommy and daddy favorite.
Rutgers ? really ? All that money on pda and then double for ecnl, and rutgers? In-state.
It is what those families chose to do. Maybe the girls wanted to be close to home. Maybe they like the coach. Who are we to say what is right? The goal is to get our girls a free education while still competing at a high level. You people are never happy.
In-state tuition (I'm sure the money is only partial) at a solid academic institution that will be competing in the Big 10. Explain to me again how that is such a bad option, please.
Hmm. Didn't Matchfit get their butts handed to them at Jefferson Cup by a non ECNL team.
Rules are different. Unlimited subbing vs no return once entered per half.I would think that makes a huge difference on how the teams play the showcase games vs league play.
Always an excuse!!! Again, not so "elite"
Facts and logic! However you could be right that's why we live in this great country. Freedom of speechHave a good night buddy
On the side lines of the Jefferson cup watching my daughter play, and behind me the NJ Rush 1997 was playing the Burlington Bayhawks 1998. One of the girls got hurt from NJ Rush running into the goalie. A parent from the Bayhawks state “I am glad she got hurt no one F_ _ _’S with our goalie”. He continued with a few more really bad comments, but I had to turn away at that point. I know of a bunch of girls from the NJ rush and none of which deserve to get hurt. My daughter played with a few on ODP, and they are respectable girls. I don’t want to see any player get an injury, and I am sure the FOOL from the Bayhawks that made that ridicules comment would not want his daughter getting hurt. The trash that comes out of some parent’s mouth is horrific.
Speak up. You should have stood up and addressed it and then left. People get away with this and lies all the time because no one calls them on it. Heck, before you know it we will have NOBamaCare. Oh yeah we already do.
If you don't want to confront a loud mouth jerk you can always get a field person to shut them down. Step up
I was just looking at epysa national championship series (state cup) and just noticed that fc bcks npl (b team) beat supernova 2-0 @ supernova. Is supernova no good anymore or is fc bucks b team good? I thought our team was going to have to go through supernova to win states this year. I haven't seen fc bucks npl team play before. I am just surprised that supernova lost at home in first round of cups. Is fc bucks allowed to bring their ecnl girls to the state cups and play with them? ajust looking for some input.
ecnl not allow to play state cup, but players will play within the club on other teams for state cup. fair? ask the starters that got benched for the 6 players from ecnl that played. by the way, 2 or 3 players from the npl team play with and will start on the ecnl bucks when traveling.
Thanks pot stirrer . My Mia didn't mind sitting on the bench just to watch our supreme ecnl players come down to a level far laughable in order to beat a weak team so we can move on and help us get our first state championship. I don't know why we ever entered the state cup all these years when the ecnl teams were so much better the the rest of the state. I was so blinded by the competition thinking we had a slim chance.I am looking forward to round 2 and I hope all ecnl players come play our next game so we can guarantee a win and next round semis game. My Mia and the rest of npl team will have Pom Poms on the sideline to cheer those on another level ecnl golden girls on.Hope that works the same way in your club.
Super Nova was knocked out early in last years state cup. Maybe everyone will realize they're a bit overrated.
Mix and match players. Will the real team ever show-up.Problem is encl not allowing the teams to play where and when they want. Control over their dollars by the league. encl is like a little ObombaCare league. Funny when during major tournaments and the two teams play in different brackets, the two teams struggle when left on their own. Hmm.... When we play an ecnl team, I always want to know if the other team in the same club is playing or not to see which team we will compete against.Although we will have to play whatever shows up anyways is the bottom line. Is it fair? for whom? the other teams or the players in the same club. Only good for the actual players that start and play with both. The good get better, just like the rich get richer. NoBamaCare
