Gfa. Stallions. NJ Elite.. TRIC. Belite. Way to go representing NJ. Congrats on final appearances and not being home by 12noon. Lol. I always tell my girl that 6 teams go home only 2 stay those are true champions and leaders. In last one year her team has done that. Now we see how strong NJ soccer is in this metro area.
GFA great job. It is not easy being the best of the best. Keep it up play soccer a win. Everyone else will complain because losing.

Anonymous said...

Stallions played very good in the finals.
Made not it easy for GFA.
CONGRATS.

Anonymous said...

FEEE FIIII FOOOO FUMMM!!!! NEWSS CHAMPS fun fun fun!

Anonymous said...

Nj elite is stronger than gfa or stallions. When they will have a chance they will show their level of playing far superior than gfa or sta or stallions . Nj elite number one period

Anonymous said...

Ni elite is a 3 team operation with a dad pulling all the strings for his daughter.

Anonymous said...

That's why my kid plays for PDA. We don't chase points like the rest of those other clubs. It is all about the showcasing. We'll see how many of your girls end up in D1 colleges!

Anonymous said...

You don't need to play(pay) for PDA to showcase. If you bought into that line of bull you are foolish. The college coaches attending these showcases are looking at all the players on the field. They don't even care who wins the game. It is individual performance. So look on the bright side, if you lost to Toms River last week its not the end of the world as long as your daughter played good! The only thing separating most of these teams is the depth of their rosters. Most have talented kids on their teams regardless if you pay to play or not.

Anonymous said...

Keep telling yourself that @8:09! While your kid plays in front of Hood College mine plays in front of Syracuse, Rutgers, North Carolina, and Duke!

Anonymous said...

Sounds like @8:09 has been sold a bag of goods from a so called academy team that doesn't play ECNL, and their daughter couldn't make the top 11 of one of these teams, more than likely couldn't make the team. Look at who lost to Toms River this weekend that may give a hint to what team they are speaking about. But really who cares, if you are a talented player the coaches will find you! That is a fact.

Anonymous said...

Looks like NJ teams fared pretty well over the weekend at NEWSS. Taking many of the brackets. No surprise that Princeton took the top bracket. A little surprised to see that Watchung took their bracket, not really - looks like NJX and Brick - NJW Fury didn't fare too well - although NJW did win 2, and NJX finally found the net, 2 goals in 6 games, they are better than that, they must have injuries. It is only one tournament - but what has happened to NJ Crush and TSF? Did they lose players, both were very decent teams last season? TRIC seems to found their form but playing way too many games, Match Fit and NJCSA show their real level! Both seeded to high for this tournament, that's a big investment for those performances. B'Elite shows improvement and decent form.

Anonymous said...

NJ seems to be the hot spot for this age group and girls soccer. Being the number 3 team in the state of CT doesn't say much when you can't beat any of the NJ that are on the lower end of the top 20.

Anonymous said...

Nj elite is not surprise. They have the best midfielder in the state, if they were in top bracket they would have won easy

Anonymous said...

9:31 That was 8:09 point. If your daughter has talent she will be noticed.

Anonymous said...

I watch NJ elite play. The mid fielder is average. The team is average. They like to push you off the ball and be very physical. They can connect but no better then any other team.

Anonymous said...

IGFA will never lose to a NJ team! Stallions got lucky to have caught them on a bad day and make the game close but don't be fooled, it won't be as close next time around. STA looked a little shaky but team is still solid. Wildcats, TSF, COPA, all looked really really bad! TRIC lucky to make it finals but they didn't look good either. Holmdel and World Class Guiran looked good too!

Anonymous said...

NJ Elite didn't look average! I disagree with @10:38. I saw them play on Saturday and Holmdel was more physical than they were. They are not the best team but will give teams some fits. Their defense is pretty solid. To go 2 weekends of tourneys undefeated is pretty impressive. They are not giving up very many goals! Still, until they play the STAs, IGFAs, Stallions, we're not saying much!

Anonymous said...

Slick has a lot to say,he should see the games before he talks about the team's he bashed

Anonymous said...

11:08 there is no bashing anywhere for a change, which is a very rare thing in this blog. Lots of positive things about me teams and lots of bragging from nj elite, which is ok cause it is irrelevant .

Anonymous said...

Nj teams no me teams sorry

Anonymous said...

Let's talk new age brackets. How will all the so called top teams be affected?

Anonymous said...

Everyone will be affected. I think most teams will play up to U17 to keep teams together. IGFA should have no problem competing against the older girls, but some of the other top teams will!

Anonymous said...

Could be a reach for some teams, it all depends on the make up of the rosters. Will be very interesting.

Let's see if the so called academy teams move tryouts up to January for the following year? LMFAO

Anonymous said...

The big clubs will all reshuffle the kids. The smaller clubs may not and drop down a level.

Anonymous said...

Igfa just a rugby team,no soccer skills

Anonymous said...

Lol sure 11:07 that is right lol

Anonymous said...

Saw IGFA play at newws because I wanted to see what the "#1" team in the country played like. I was very disappointed. Saw them play and beat the WC ECNL team, but WC def had better of play and played better technical soccer. I thought I was going to see IGFA move the ball like barca...far from it. The ball was always in the air so it could be bodied or flicked forward or kicked into the corners for a winger to go chase. They are a good team no doubt, BUT if a college coach is there to recruit an individual, they would be hard pressed to find an aboundance technical skill...but they are a good team and will win a lot with that style. Unfortunately, college coaches do not recruit a whole team, ask the American Blue Blades.

Anonymous said...

11:51 that is your opinion.WC didn't have one shot to goal ,technically were dominated. field was one of the worst ever, which is weird considering this was the top bracket of the tournament .its conditions limited both teams greatly. i do not think after HS season there is any team out there that is in the best shape possible, i didn't see good soccer in general. maybe come watch in a month or so and than share with us your opinion again. And in relation of technical skills, the team proved to have them as they won any indoor tournament they participate in the past year, any 5v5 or 7v7 where the technical level is essential factor. just my opinion ,

Anonymous said...

12:12 i have no beef with either team. Since you seem to know all about IGFA's indoor record, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say your kid is on the team...which is fine. I already said they were a good team. But to say WC was dominated "technically", just shows me that you can not see things clearly or dont know and are confusing winning with dominating technically. I didnt see IGFA link together any passes, no more than 2 or 3 before the ball went into the corner.
As you said the field was horrible. No doubt that game was truly the final and not the noon game. You would think the 2 best teams would get a nice field, and for the game to start with a dad as an AR was ridiculous.
Btw, him arguing with a parent that didnt understand a call shows no class... as he yelled at the parent "I coached for 10 years so he knows what hes talking about".

12:33 as I said before opinions are opinion and I respect yours , I am also convinced that to see quality after an HS season is very rare. I am sure you agree. About the shouting I do not know exactly who you are referring to but if it was a parent there are many parents in every team that have no class. Nothing new there. 12:34 team just won a tournament , not great soccer in general maybe , a decline is only your wish but hardly the case. Season just started, let's see what it brings and which team will still up there at the end. Judging a game is not necessarily a fair way to evaluate a team.

Anonymous said...

I hear what both of you are saying. (I am assuming this is a two way conversation, never know on this blog)
I know both team couldv'e probably played better.
IGFA #1 got soccer, got there for a reason, WCFC ECNL, won their ECNL conference. Both teams are elite and maybe it wasnt fully displayed over the weekend on poor field conditions, BUT IT SURE IS BETTER THAN HS SOCCER!!!!!
THIS WE CAN ALL AGREE ON!!!

So many teams in general have taken hits with injuries. High school soccer beat up some good club players. Not seeing too performance from any teams just yet.

Anonymous said...

Did gfa slick wear his black jumpsuit last weekend?

Anonymous said...

723 you want to talk about coaching from the sidelines. All you heard the whole game was the Brick guy coaching from the side.

Anonymous said...

And the Brick guy has never played the game, you may say he is a cartoon.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry we will play again in May and hopefully your daughter will play more and could be more effective but I doubt it because she can't get by our defense when at full strength it will be almost impossible for her to do so.

Anonymous said...

CASL BABY!

Anonymous said...

We have 4-5 parents that stand at mid-field and coach and yell at the refs. It is so comical to sit back in my comfortable chair with my water and watch this. I mean wtf is wrong with these people. They even rock back and forth and move around like they are playing, it is so strange. They say things like "come on ref" or "move to the ball" "watch the runner" I mean some of us may do this as well, but not standing like 2 feet from sideline. I guess this is what they feel they need to do and just want to do ya know. thanks for listening.

Anonymous said...

Rugby,no soccer skills

Anonymous said...

Rugby put them on top. And now your on the bottom looking up trying to figure out why you left. The same reason left NJSA, match fit, TsF lmao!!

Anonymous said...

They are a joke......and every college coach knows it!!!!just watch utube...lol

Anonymous said...

Listen just because your kid couldn't make IGFA doesn't mean you have to bash them! Be content with the level your child is playing in now and hope for her to have success.

Anonymous said...

Is it the same two people going back and forth. Come on man, wtf. They are a very strong team and hope they do well this weekend.

Anonymous said...

Good luck to all the NJ teams at CASL this weekend! Show them what NJ is all about!

Anonymous said...

NJ best State for girls soccer in Region 1!

Anonymous said...

That team embarrassed nj with that rugby style, not true nj soccer.and it showed as they got outplayed by a technical soccer team.

Anonymous said...

You really must be possessed with GFA. Scoring 3 goals against one of the top teams in US - ECNL class is not a bad result. So get real or simply go away as your hate makes you blind and delusional.

Anonymous said...

3:06 you are a disgrace. You are so stupid that you become a character. Your daughter was not good enough. Stay home and keep looking at the computer to find a score that will make your day in your poor miserable life. You are the lowest of a human being. You speak with such an ignorance for the game , for the team , that if I was your daughter I really would feel sorry to be raised by a person like you.lol what an idiot you are. You are the embarrassment for the human race . Go out in your back yard and kick the ball to your daughter cause this is where she is playing this weekend

Anonymous said...

IGFA parents you do have a great team and your result today, even though a loss, was still positive considering the competition. However, you folks just seem too easily provoked by the nonsense on this blog. Just stop responding to it and it will go away. No one takes anything seriously on here anyway.

Anonymous said...

Not a great start for NJ teams in the Elite brackets of CASL today. IGFA (3-4), Stallions (1-2) and STA (0-2) end up losing their 1st games with PDA Splash winning (3-2). Let's hope for a better day for NJ tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

GFA lose by 1
Stallions lose by 1
STA lose by 2
Splash win by 1
Copa win by 1
Hornets win by 1
MF NPL lose by 2

NJ showing well... nobody getting blown out. This is REAL competition at CASL, top quality teams everywhere. Keep fighting NJ!!!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

I would call 20-0 a blow out! Real good competition????

Anonymous said...

Obviously a mistake ,

Anonymous said...

looks like Splash back on top, great weekend

Anonymous said...

To 9:40 pm - when have you ever seen a soccer score of 20 -0.....a mistake and you make a scarcastic comment based on eroneous informaton......unbelievable some of the people that post to this blog

Anonymous said...

Good weekend for nj teams:
Gfa , Pda, stallions all showed they belonged where they were placed.
Sta came back with at least a tie at the end .
Top flight had great teams in it. Good job

WC's won there own tournament. Against some pretty tough teams. Not! What's the old saying? If you can't win a tournament hold your own?

First off, you sure do have a lot of time on your hands and second, what exactly does this show? Except that ECNL teams dont chase GS points?
In look at this the tourney directors actually did a good job placing teams, not just going by GS points.

Anonymous said...

12:22 It's good to be the boss. It showed who the favorites were according to GS and when the dust settled how they finished. Nothing more no thing less everything else is all you. I didn't say GS is the end all be all - just used their data.

US Club soccer is in trouble and so are their NPLs - it's never a good sign when NPL teams travel to Florida and don't play in your Showcase Event. Probably the same reason your National Cup gets no love. Your Players first initiatives mean nothing if your own Clubs don't buy into it. As you can see from the list below - your NPL clubs picked Disney and the USYSA instead. Is it the college coaches or they just love their GS? It's not the coaches because if all these teams played at Palm Coast the coaches would be there as well so i guess it must be the GS or maybe just the Disney Draw - Players first good cause will Never Happen if everyone has their own definition of players first.

So, for the better teams.....GFA, World Class, STA, HBC, PDA, Stallions, etc

How many of your players are '01 and how many '02?

Will your clubs be mixng teams as we go forward, sticking to the stringent birth year guidelines - or will some '01s play U17 in 2016-'17?

Thanks

Anonymous said...

LOL...I think you mean how many are 00's and 01's. If your playing with 01's and 02's at this age may be a reason why your not competeing.

and 2016-2017 will be u16 not u17

and please include NJ elite into this top group of teams and wildcats fury. Both are as good as the one you mentioned if not better. Wildcats won every game this weekend , cannot say the same to the other team you mentioned.

Heres my top 5
PDA
HBC
STALLIONS
WORLD CLASS
GFA
Based on what I have seen so far.

Anonymous said...

Your logic is very interesting. GFA has been consistantly winning games with all these teams but still is on the bottom of your list. Check results and data - they are not supporting your subjective opinion.
What is your reasoning?

Anonymous said...

10:51 reasoning is their kid tried out for GFA and didn't make it so now GFA is at the bottom of their list!

Anonymous said...

I see PDA's reputation preceeds their accomplishments. Top of the list? They were so good last year that they got a new head coach and cut a lot of the team. As for GFA, I'm sure they are last on the list because of parents(Coach) on this blog...and you fell for it. smh

Anonymous said...

pda is the best after that NJ ELITE. all the others are average.
NJ ELITE BEST SOCCER IN STATE.

Anonymous said...

but wait...how can NJ Elite be best in state if you just said PDA was best in state. You can't have two bests, it just doesnt make sense.
I will say NJ ELITE troll... Worst grammar in THE state.

Anonymous said...

GFA keeps winning and continues to go to top tournaments, finals in country on East Coast. they never hide, grow up, GFA beat PDA, they beat them all. Had great showing at casl and will continue to show well. Coach is a genius, mad man, but a genius, do they go hand in hand you wonder? My daughter played for him and loved him, his passion is unmatched, hands down. If my daughter loved him that is all that matters. At least for most parents.

Anonymous said...

4:52 if you look at the chart posted you will see the 2016/2017 season (use the year the season ends) any team with players born in 2000 will play U17. Big difference for the top U15 teams as they will have to play top U16 teams.

So does this GFA team stay together and go to U17 or do they go all 2001s or all 2000s and become an average team? As far as PDA they will be in the same position Storm/Splash make '01s and Splash/Gunners make '00.

Anonymous said...

Can HBC, Stallions and World Class do the same as PDA?

every team is evaluating what to do. lots of teams are stronger in one year and weaker in the other.psa/igfa same as pda or any other team i am assuming will do the evaluation based on what they have. every club has an older team and can do what pda does anyway. the question for all teams will be where the strength will be. and each team has a different situation. I guess will all find out beginning of next year as nobody has anything settle for sure. PDA included. that i know for a fact unfortunately as i am one of the parent concern about the situation and would like some clear information but wherever i did my research it is all the same. NOT SURE YET.

GFA is done after this year due to the age restructuring. They have nothing at the other age groups. Coach has all eggs in the 15u basket and doesn't care about the rest of his program.

Anonymous said...

Maybe check if PSA has only this age group before you talk nonsense . Oh wait you are the usual idiot. Lol forget it

Why does Briick Fury get criticized for carrying GS points to the Wildcats, but it doesn't apply to Princeton, who gets GFA points.

Anonymous said...

Princeton IGFA u15 has carried in the whole team with the exception of 4 players leaving. That is very unlike the wildcats fury thing.

Because they are the players that earned those points not new players that using the name and take advantage.Big difference do not even start some other bs please

In reference to the list of top teams. It has less to do about winning at this stage. Success is judged by 2 things. 1. How many colleges are attending your games.2. How many and how frequently the national staff attends your games.
In the case of PDA and HBC they get a lot of attention from both. I have been at PDA games and saw 20 coaches there. This last week I stayed after my daughters u18 game to watch HBC, they had to have 40 coaches at that game. My older daughter team has gotten a lot of attention over the last 3 years but I was impressed by the turnout.

I have no idea what the coaches interest is in IGFA but if your not getting the visibility you think you deserve the national staff and the college coaches probably are not liking your teams style of play regardless of your wins.

Anonymous said...

NJCSA will not win one NPL game, yes, they are sleepers, and will not wake up. Especially with that coach.

Anonymous said...

Since you have no idea why you have to make a negative comment assuming something that you do not know?
You are telling me that a u15 game has over 40 coaches on the sideline in a game? Freshmen players? Ok

Anonymous said...

11:46 the lady that posted 11:39 is even funnier. I don't know i thought that by maybe starting the post with GS (Gotsoccer) would be a dead give away and since NJCSA and LVU are the 5th & 6th highest rankings they were used as the sleepers since I have never seen any of these teams play. So I'm not the coach lady.

Anonymous said...

To the 11:46 poster. Please read read my original post. I was not putting IGFA down.I was responding to the complaints someone had about them being placed lower on a meaningless ranking list. What I was saying is that I know for a fact that PGA is highly visible to college coaches and national staff. As for The HBC team, the guy stayed in our hotel in Tulsa and in Wilson. I watched their first game and can tell you the player sideline was packed with coaches. I dont know and didnt count them but i heard it was over 40 schools. I was not trying to put your team down, as a u18 premier player parent I was trying to give you incite that coaches don't really care about your wins as much as they care about your style of play.
How many coaches and what schools were on your sideline at casl? If you had more than 20 then you should be happy, if you had less or they were not ACC, SEC, Big12 or Big12 or pac12 schools your coach might not be doing as good a job as you think, meaning don't be misguided by just winning. Good luck with you daughters future endeavors.

Anonymous said...

1:08 no team has 20 or 40 schools on the side line at U15.

Anonymous said...

I went to see Pda at CASL , maybe and it is a stretch, maybe I saw 5 coaches at the game. So based on your theory their style of playing really sucks and for sure the coach is not doing his job. Right?

Anonymous said...

I was at GFA's CASL matches and they had between 5 to 10 coaches at both Friday and Saturdays game. Zero at Sunday which seemed to be the dead day. And I'm sure they were their to see both teams...so I'm not saying they were their to see GFA ONLY!! I don't want the morons to take what I posted the wrong way. But it was the Top Flight at U15 (PDA was 2 flights below) so they had decent interest at both the Friday and Saturday games. And again this is not a shot at PDA...just pointing out the facts.

Anonymous said...

Everybody had the same number of coaches at CASL ! Fc start of mass, CASL, pda , fc Virginia , I spent the entire day around watching games and never saw notes than 5-10 coaches . It is very normal and actually pretty good for u15 as the majority of coaches are watching older teams. Come on guys do not go find problems where there are none. 40 coaches in a u15 game doesn't happen ( and rarely even in a u18). Lol please

Anonymous said...

4:29 you keep saying " I was not putting Igfa down" but you did. " this is not a shot at pda" but it actually is . Lol come on now. Go and watch your daughter u18 and focus on that since it is her last year .

Anonymous said...

1:46 and 4:41 poster 1:08 was incorrect, HBC had 45 schools with multiple coaches at the 1st game. We had 20 coaches(9 were also at the first game)at the 2nd game,10 coaches(4 were repeats)at the 3rd game and 1 school Elon at the last game. A total of 62 different Schools from every major conference attended those national league games. It is also a fact that National staff attended the first 2 games.

Anonymous said...

BTW poster 1:08's daughter plays on a very successful u18 nj team who has multiple players going to D1 schools. He knows what he's talking about.

Anonymous said...

Let gfa guy live in his world, knows nothing about soccer at this level, still lives at u13 kick and run, will learn hard way,to bad for his girls...

Anonymous said...

10:53 lol wish you will let gfa alone. Lol it would be so great. Unfortunately you can't , it just bothers you too much.

Anonymous said...

7:24 I know nothing of the feud between you guys. However if your team isn't getting the amount of attention from colleges or national staff that you think it deserves that squarely falls on the club and coach. It is the coaches that should be calling the college coaches to market their players, unfortunately most coaches/trainers are ill-equipped to tackle that aspect of their job.
It is ludicris for someone to say that every game had the same amount of schools, it is also ignorant for someone to say that 40 schools won't go to a u15 game. The coaches set a program in place that they contact coaches and have the girls contact the schools they are interested in prior to every big event. If your club doesn't have that in place maybe you should question why. If The answer is "it takes too much time." Find another club

Anonymous said...

10:50 Why are you telling people to move if they like where they are? Not everyone likes the same stuff as you pal.

Anonymous said...

10:50 absolutely. What you said is for every club out there.not just one. Same should go see how many coaches are at stallions or sta or WC or match fit and all the other clubs in the state . If he targets one and makes statements based on personal issues and not fact , then the statement is not valid. Every parent has to decide what is best for his daughter . Nothing else. Anybody can go to the club that fit their needs.
Nothing else. And as usual there are too many assumptions in this blog from people that only want to create problems.

Anonymous said...

PDA showcases their players the best. They are hands down the best Jersey has to offer when it comes to ahowcasing players. IGfA will not be able to attract coaches because they do not have a network, reputation or the man power to offer what PDA has done for years. It's new to the coach and the players are the only one losing out.

Anonymous said...

why you keep talking only about Igfa ? Tell that to the stallions parents to the sta to the match fit parents , to all , tell them to go to pda

Development is a process and the players/parents have to enjoy the process of development. Development takes time, patience, a lot of hard work and players/parents also need to buy into it.

Coaches want players that can interpret the game, understand the game and of course have the physical tools so they can develop them to their full potential.

This has nothing to do with rankings and results even though I love talking about them as a fan not as a parent though. I am my kid's club biggest fan along with the other parents on her club. As fans we all want our kids to win every game but as a parent I want her in a place where she can develop the tools she will need to continue playing this game as she gets older College and Beyond (WPSL, W-League, NWSL, UEFA and/or NT).

12:15 thanks now we are going to start another session of bs over them. great. go ahead and answer to your own message and start the trolls.

Anonymous said...

12:15 obviously you know that they tied a very average ISA team. One thing I will say is that a game like that is a super bowl for Isa. If your a top team you get everybody's A game.

Anonymous said...

ISA has several impressive victories under their belt so before you call it average do your research..NEFC is far from average

Anonymous said...

They are definitely not a team the #1 team in the world should be tying.

Anonymous said...

7:38 and you are definately an idiot. But we all know that already. Old news. Now you started this on your own yesterday, hopefully this morning idiotic message is the last that we are going to ready from you. Until you invent another troll . Hopeless

Anonymous said...

Put your pride aside. We did not play good. Everyone saw how girls were walking on the field and did not do their best. ISA was most of the time a better team. More important, ISA girls really worked hard to beat us. I can't say the same about our girls. We were happy we tied when ISA hit the post last second.

So, just another bad day. We have had many of them. As well we have had many great ones. Get used to the fact that there are "rainy days" sometimes...

Anonymous said...

8:39 why you comment about the game? Nobody from anywhere else is commenting about their game. You should stay off the blog

Anonymous said...

At this age wins and losses are irrelevant. Gfa can go 20-0. They play meaningless games and get no exposure. Until they join the ecnl they aren't worth talking about. Put it this way kids have left them to join ecnl teams. That's the bottom line

Anonymous said...

Ironically, you are talking about them.

Anonymous said...

I disagree! you cant tell me encl is the only league to be recognized. That is just incorrect. If your daughter is a great soccer player and playing in showcases she will be seen.

Anonymous said...

Perfect . Agreed!! Then tell the idiot to stop talking about them. Would be the best thing of the day. Talk about the other teams please

Anonymous said...

Having just gone through this with an older, the notion that if you are good you will be seen is not completely accurate. I am also not saying one league is better than another. IF, big if, you would like to play in college they can continue playing where 98% of the girls are playing. If your daughter wants to play for ACC, Big10, etc. You know the kind of college you can mention in any conversation to anyone and they would say, "Oh, I know that school" you need to be in the ECNL. The Penn State, UNC, Duke, FSU, Standfords of the world.
Not promoting just saying. My older was happy were she was and is happy to be going to a D3.
Easy test...doesnt matter what bracket you will be playing in. Let's take Jeff Cup, one of the bigger tourneys. Look at the Coaches attending list. Now do the same for any of the ECNL showcases. That is the difference. PERIOD. You are paying for exposure to those types of programs. Is it better soccer, maybe in some cases. If a girls really wants to play big time D1 and she is sourrounded by and playing against similar minded girls, theres a good probablity that the resulting soccer is good. Can a non ECNL team beat a ECNL team? OF COURSE! Can a world class girl be on a regular NPL club? OF COURSE! Can a non ECNL'er make one of those teams, of course! It's just not as easy.

Anonymous said...

PDA Shore won this past weekend in NY. Weak field, but they won.

Anonymous said...

i think you mean the kind of school you can mention in any conversation about college soccer, and the if some of the few people in the world that have any knowledge about college soccer are also in that conversation, they will say "Oh I know that school"

Anonymous said...

Before anyone else goes on about ACC, Big 10 etc. D1 being the be all and end all please read this first

http://www.usnews.com/education/blogs/the-college-solution/2010/06/22/7-things-you-need-to-know-about-sports-scholarships

Bottom line you will get only a small non-guaranteed partial scholarship at major conference D1 school. Also as a freshman you will likely not see the field at these big schools and not have much time to spend on the real reason you are attending college...your studies. So taking a step back and doing some basic math ask yourself if your pursuits make much sense. From a financial standpoint it does not. I estimate that the minimum a high level npl or ecnl parent pays per year is 8k and can reach as high as 15k if the team is "lucky" enough to advance to the far away national final events. Common sense would say to bank all that money and put it towards tuition. Yet we don't and many of us struggle to make ends meet so we can write those never ending soccer checks. D3 and Ivy league schools do offer a better outlook though. Guaranteed merit money and an excellent education with more time to focus on studies. Which scenario would you rather your daughter end up with at the end of college. 1)a non employable major from a big athletic conference school with 80-160K in student debt (assuming 20k a year scholarship for 40k or 60k a year tuition and the rest on loan) or 2) graduate from a highly reputable academic school with plenty more merit money and an employable degree...because you actually had the time to take on a challenging degree. I think the choice is obvious yet many of us still advocate that option 1 is the only prize and put down those that don't achieve it.

Anonymous said...

I don't follow.

An athlete that gets 20K in athletic scholarships will also get Merit Money if they can get merit money at a non-major.

Anonymous said...

I think the point is that you are likely to get more money from a D3 school which is guaranteed for 4 years and at the same time not be treated as a prisoner of the their win by all means soccer programs. The extra freedom will allow you to pursue more competitive degrees which will give you an edge in the workforce. After all there is no sustainable future in women's soccer after college so the goal should be in getting the best education possible. That of course starts with working hard in high school to get the grades that top schools require. Soccer is than used to give you the advantage over candidates with similar grades but no athletics.

Anonymous said...

"many of us struggle to make ends meet so we can write those never ending soccer checks"

Why is soccer such a priority that you would struggle to pay the bills? Find a cheaper program. Around me, high end soccer is a luxury for well off families. Not a comfortable place for players with limited incomes.

Anonymous said...

I agree with a lot that has been said for the advantages of D3, however I do want to throw a bone to large powerhouse universities. I went to a BIG TEN school that was a powerhouse in my sport (it was not soccer). I was on the team all 4-yrs, but only saw significant playing time my senior year. I also received a very marketable degree. The mindset, time management, people-skills that some of the large universities provide is very valuable for you to succeed in life and in the work force. I look at my teammates (even the ones that only played 2-years and then retired) and almost everyone is very successful professionally.

When looking for your first job, having "Womens Soccer Team" on your resume speaks volumes to certain employers who specifically recruit athletes. The employer doesn't care if you sat the bench. They admire your discipline, dedication, work ethic, time management, and competitiveness.

Also a lot has been discussed about playing time. It is always better to play in the college games - but there is significant playing at practices at that shouldn't be discounted.

Anonymous said...

"High end soccer" isn't better because it cost more. There are academy soccer teams popping up left and right. Some academies have multiple teams that I wouldn't consider high end. On the flip side there are other non-academy teams that do play high end soccer that cost less then half of what an academy charges. By now you should be able to recognize high end soccer.

I have a friend who played as an alternate on the US Woman's National team. She also played in the WPSL, Europe, and Asia. She played for a top D1 school in California and earned a degree in business management. She slept on my couch for almost 2 years because she couldn't find a job with all that on her resume. Have your girls focus on their studies and picking an employable major.

Anonymous said...

Afluenze is real in girls soccer! That's why they make it so expensive. I lived and played in England my entire career and my parents never paid a penny for me to play. I had traveled all of Europe and most of North America by the time I was 18 thanks to soccer. American soccer is all about the money and the amount of kids they can card to a team.

Anonymous said...

Perfectly possible to find a good town team run like a true non profit should be. Join it, enjoy it and deal with the fact your roster will include some great players and some weak players and your not going to be winning any championships. Its a great game..a GAME. It can definitely be played and enjoyed without investing serious cash.

Anonymous said...

agreeing with most of what was said...hey look we're all agreeing. It must be the holiday season.
The thing that I dont agree with is throwing the baby out with the bath water. Just because your friend was unemployed for 2 years doesnt mean that soccer did or didnt have any effect on her job search.
In the time she was playing all that high level soccer, did she think about life after soccer? Was she networking and meeting the right people? Did she learn any other languages that would make her more desirable a candidate when she played in asia and europe? Did she had zero opportunities to be an assistant coach at any of her previous teams, including her top D1 school? Almost all assistant coaches are alum of that school.
I would also think a business management degree is an employable degree and from a top school is nothing to sneeze about.
Just to say....and she "had all that soccer on her resume", you are implying that it was the soccer that didnt push her over the edge.
Was she expecting with a business management degree she was going to go right into a "management" position?
She went to a top school on a soccer scholarship, she was an Alt on the WNT, she played all over the world, she was arguably at the pinnacle of womens soccer. Think of all the girls playing starting with rec, to get to that point is nothing short of amazing, but getting a job in the real world, we all started at the bottom.
Was she willing to do that?

Anonymous said...

What I am saying is that the soccer on her resume didn't help. This country still doesn't care about soccer to same degree it cares about woman's basketball for example. I will never take away what soccer did for my friend. Paid for education, allowed her to travel extensively, meet some very interesting people, but when it was all said and done, it didn't give her an advantage. Soccer is a fantastic sport, especially for girls. One of the few sports where the dimensions of the field or ball are not changed because they are girls. I wish it was more appreciated. I also wish teams were more diversified but for now, I will enjoy watching my children play for however long the play. If they don't play in college, that's okay with me!

Anonymous said...

You can't live your life only as a resume builder. That said, the amount of time she devoted to the sport may have prevented her from pursuing other opportunities to make her a more attractive candidate in the job market. Cost benefit analysis must be done regarding time and $$$ devoted to soccer.

Anonymous said...

The blame has to go on the parents, player, coach and academic counselor. She probably had multiple opportunities at her finger tips, but nothing was done about it. I would need to hear the other half of the story to get a full understanding of what took place. Sleeping on a couch for two years is a pure sign of laziness. There is plenty of work out there for those who want to work so to say she could not find is bs. You need to go look. So there is a lot of detail that has not been shared. Players need to pick school base on majors and interest which is fostered in high school and at dinner table conversations. D1 means nothing for our girls except it means a whole lot for parent bragging rights.

Anonymous said...

Damn right bragging rights - if my kid was picked to NT team regardless of level - everyone I know is going to know that she was rewarded for her hard work and devotion to a sport ALL OVER FACEBBOK plus her club's website. If my kid went to Stanford to play soccer and study everyone would know that as well - if my daughter graduated from Nassau community college everyone would know that as well -NOTHING wrong with being proud about your kid's accomplishments - calling it Bragging sounds a little like i wish my kid could.

Anonymous said...

Nothing wrong with pride but bragging is bragging. Most learn how to filter out bragging. Smile and say that's great but it's in one ear and out the other.

Anonymous said...

Altruism at its best . Live your life not your kids and believe it or not modesty is much better than altruistically living in your daughters shoes. Try having some pride.

For the person saying you need to play ECNL to play in the ACC B10 or a top 25 program, that might be true if you don't have enough talent. But trust me if you have the talent go to overnight ID camps and contact coaches you will play there. Take PSA/IGFA u18s they have 8 girls going d1 with 1 going to ACC an another going to a top 25 program both 100% full. PSA/igfa u15s will have every opportunity to be seen by coaches that PDA will. Its about marketing yourself and grades in WSOC.

So if a girl is on the bubble with talent and doesn't really stand out a camp then the ECNL is where you want to be because of the amount of college coaches that will attend the multitude of events. But if your an elite talent and can do work to reach out the coaches will find you.

Anonymous said...

only if its a Rugby coach....

Anonymous said...

8:57 if that is true why did you only have 5-10 coaches attend the casl games

Anonymous said...

I love watching people call each other out on this blog and then when I see them at tournaments they hug like long lost lovers!

Anonymous said...

8:57 they are certainly not getting a 100% full soccer rides. They don't exist. If they are not paying anything then the majority is merit/academic money. Which once again shows that the emphasis should be on academics

Anonymous said...

Keep telling yourself that if your market your daughter and you are an elite player, they will find you. Elite compared to who? You think because your doing well in a weak league (by your own admission will be bored beating these teams)that once you get to a BIG camp that she will still be standout...You're hilarious.
I guess the recruiting coaches will be just like the ball field in field of dreams, if you build it they will come, if you market your daughter they will come. Oh wait that was fiction.
Finally, a message to all...a lot of the "ID" camps are run by assistant coaches as extra income. Make sure you go to the right one with limited camper size and make sure the head coach is actually there.

Listen everyone. 99% of players are in the same boat. Just enjoy the ride. If your child has the grades and is an above average player she will play soccer in college. It may be div 1 2 or 3. Who cares. As long as the college has what she wants that's all the matters. No one is playing after college. The Olympic team carries 18. So even some of the United States best won't make the team. Education comes first. So please stop living thru your child. It just shows your immaturity.

How could be HBC and SJEB ahead of us at Disney?

10:53 you are clearly a troll . Just leave it alone and stop provoking. Is really boring now

Anonymous said...

Slick just be happy with where they put you

I am surprised Sjeb is even going. That team is famous for bailing on great tournaments like CASL and the NPL nationals.

Slick what are you going to do,no costumes allowed at Disney this year you cant wear your black jumpsuit...

Anonymous said...

You didn't post the GS points next to the ECNL standings.

Anonymous said...

Not a GS platform, lots of manual work - would you have?

Besides - it's a league national title - GS points mean nothing -just need to finish in first or 2nd and as a wildcard to qualify. being part of the league gets you to their showcase events. So again a lot of work for nothing.

Non-ECNL teams might need GS a little more, no?
Disney was easy - click on the team and bang -but my next post will be GS rankings of all the teams that have ECNL in their team name if that makes you happy.

Anonymous said...

As promised only the region1 ECNL teams though - I'm sure you din't want all 80

13 FC VIRGINIA ECNL 00
27 PENN FUSION SA '00G ECNL

So FC Stars of Mass is ranked 200 in GS points and #1 in the ECNL. The point is that GS is meaningless. No need to keep posting them GFA mom. Or the #1 team in the country lost to #200 at CASL. Must have been a fluke loss.

Anonymous said...

7:31 Hey lady, did you read my post? It was a favor for another poster. I even said they don't matter for ECNL by saying "Besides - it's a league national title - GS points mean nothing".

PS. FC Stars is not ranked number 1 they just have the number 1 seed best pts avg with biggest GD common girl you should know that before you throw mud.

Anonymous said...

Ughhh...I would rather be entertained by mindless bickering back and forth that read rankings and GS points. This is probably the bean counter that said
"Cost benefit analysis must be done regarding time and $$$ devoted to soccer".

Anonymous said...

Rankings and points are the way GFA mom can reiterate how great her little girl is and her team, rather than just enjoying the games and moving on. It is all about winning and losing for her instead of enjoying good competition, training and making new friends. That is why she constantly posts that nonsense.
