This will also be the season for player movement to pre-academy teams. Who stays, who goes (and who goes where). It won't be boring.
Get ready, the big tournaments of the year are right around the corner.
"Got Soccer has both the Ukrainian Nationals and Lower Merion as U12 teams."
Yes. And as we learned from the )then) Galaticos at the Lower merion tourney in the fall, gotsoccer also seems to consider their ranknings as though they were U13s for flight value. Seems like a glitch in their system to me but, unless this changes, the Stallions look to be the beneficiaries of this,
Well done to Millburn, EBSC and Gunners. All three performed well. I saw the Millburn game vs HBC and the Gunners vs Patriots game and I cant believe the embarrassing reffing I witnessed.
The comment above is spot on, well done Gunners, EB and Titans!
Also, congrats on Stallions 99/00. They should have been placed in the top bracket and is a shame they werent. They played team that they were far better than even though two games ended 3-2. One being a very weak U12 team not ranked nationally. The Gunners played that Sabertooth team and won 4-0 and the other U12 team that Gunners beat are ranked top 5 in country and are very good. Just like the Cedar Stars U12 Academy boys who would beat 80% of the U13 teams out there.
I would love to have seen a Patriots Black vs Stallions 99/00 final for the top flight. The patriots black have a very good team and have 2 weapons!
Anyways, looks like the season is starting up!
Good luck to all NJ Jeff cup and Annandale teams!!!!
Patriots Black won the top flight at Europa while Patriots Red lost in the top flight final (to NYSC) in Manhattan. So it was a very good weekend for the former Upper Makefield teams.
@10:12AM OR 10:31am could you please explain in a little more detail how Got Soccer calculates point gains for tournaments, etc. Using the Stallions 99/00 3932 point gain as an example. I understand somewhat that it has to do with the quality of the other teams but don't get how/how much they contribute in a calculation. Your help with this towards my understanding would be much appreciated.
Our team played both the Black and Red patriots team and love both of them. They both play good styles and they also have very good individual players with great talent.
BUT, I will say that I watched the Gunners vs Patriots RED game and the Gunners got completely robbed. The handball was completely ridiculous but im talking about the whole game. The Gunners coach I heard was going to be kicked out of the tournament bc of his reactions to the entire game. If you ask me, he did a unbelievable job!! If my team got screwed over with those types of calls for 70 mins and then a last second hand ball to lose, I may have walked over there and punched him right in his face!!!!
But congrats to the PA teams as both Red and Black were impressive over the weeknd.
Q: patriots red and black left Upper makefield because of their affiliation with Match Fit or is that what they named it? Black looked good a Europa, if they ever put coaches kid on the red team, watch out.
4,000 points for a middle tier win against a U12 team? That is ridiculous! I'm sure they are a good team and all, but do we also get 10,000 points for beating the #1 ranked U8 team? Let's hope more U12 teams play up.
Is it just me or is it that every time the Gunners/Galacticos are written about (since as long I've been reading this blog) there's always some excuse for their performance. It's one drama after another. Or there are often posts clearly written by one of their parents or their coach that reads "I have no relation to the Gunners but happened to see them play and boy are they great even though they lost...". What goes and is it just possible that their overall win loss record might just be an indication that they're only just a good or very good team coach by an ok coach and not the great team they constantly promote themselves as. I suppose only time will tell. Maybe other teams are just better at player development and also know how to win. Is that possible?
LOL! The Galacticos were robbed....3 injuries...unfair handling call.. Do I hear a broken record? That's a lot of comments that fail to explain why they got blanked the next day as well by the only other team that had two losses in the group. They went home in dead last place for the group. How exactly are they representing NJ? I think the real U13 Gunners team represented NJ well by winning their tournament...not making excuses.
The Gunners are a curious team. They are discussed here frequently because they are interesting. There are days when the simply fail to show up and are rather unimpressive. Then, on another day, they look like some of the most taklented players in the State and are a delight to watch.
Sometimnes they don't even need two different days to pull their Jekyll & Hyde routine and look like different teams in the morning and afternoon of the same day at a tournament.
But they're ranked 3rd in the state and it would appear the Tournament Director for Manhattan thought they were a better top flight choice than EB.
"the gunners are a curious team. They are discussed here frequently..." that's because their coach and parents are constantly writing about them here.
"it would appear that the manhattan tournament director thought they were a better top flight choice than EB". Looks like he was wrong. Again maybe they're just a good team obsessed with self promotion. There are other teams out there justbas goodvatvdeveloping players and also winning along the way. Maybe?
"@10:12AM OR 10:31am could you please explain in a little more detail how Got Soccer calculates point gains for tournaments, etc. Using the Stallions 99/00 3932 point gain as an example."
I'm glad you asked this question as it made me take another look and discover I had this one wrong. The poster who estimated 2,500 total points for the Stallions was right and I was wrong.
It's a bit complicated to explain (although not hard at all to comprehend). But I had failed to consider that there are only 1079 U12 teams registered (as opposed to 4351 U13 teams) and that inflated the values I attributed to the two U12 teams.
My bad and apologies to the poster with the accurate 2,500 point estimation!
In the past month of so here I've been called a Marlboro parent, a Gottschee Roma parent, a Millburn parent and now a Gunners parent!
And I wouldn't be surpised if you were the one aho made all of these claims! But you know, you're right on all accounts and let me tell you...this is a tough schedule to keep! And the uniform costs are killing me!
Still, I'm thinking about having him join at least two more teams during the spring as I like to keep his schedule busy and he's not much of a student anyway.
"Call me crazy, but like most, I log on to read all the smut. Give me my fix please."
Millburn boots it! Gunners are the Stallions "B" team! EB has lost all their players to Monroe! Monroe has lost all their players to Marlboro! Marlboro has lost all their players to Red Bulls (who now have about 200 kids on their team)! PDA kids are quitting in droves! Black Dawgs have fleas! NJSA has lost their USSF status (or was that MFC?) Parsippany are the GREATEST TEAM on the planet (or is that Westfield?) Toms River's "Crewe" have an extra "e!" Ironbound Navigators have gotten lost!
I KNOW ALL THIS FIRST HAND BECAUSE MY KID PLAYS FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE TEAMS!!!
That's allI've got for now. Hope that's a good fix for you!
Does anyone else know that half of our children wont be playing this game in the next 3 years. Wait until high school comes. Just wait.
We all talk about how are kids teams are the best and we also enjoy the garbage that we talk about other players, teams and coaches. If you ask me, never was I as good as my son was and is, never would I be able to teach a kid LET ALONE A TEAM to compete at a high level of soccer (even though I always talk like I could).
These teams we talk about.. Millburn, Marlboro, Stallions, Gunners, EB, Parsipanny, PDA, Monroe.. Bottom line is, these teams have a lot of talent. These teams have pationate coaches! Thats what matters.
They are 12-13 years old. Any team can beat any team. Wait until the faster player on your team hits 16 and see if he still is the fastest. Wait until your tallest and biggest player hits 16, see where he stands then. All this will change soon.. lets just hope we all continue to talk trash when it all changes haha
What you fail to understand regarding the ECNL, is that they are trying to build a league that resembles the boys US DA, or, at the very least promote less, but more meaningful games, with a higher training to game ratio, with continued DEVELOPMENT. Is it perfect? No. Are there teams playing in Region 1 premier or EDP that may be better then certain teams within an ECNL club? Of course, but the system that they are building is also promoted by US national coaches.
A survey of high school girls has shown that they are playing over 100 games per year. If so, and they are always preparing for the next match, presumably to win, then how much time is spent on further development?
The US womens national team, along with the youth national teams, spend the first 45 minutes plus at training, working on development.
They see many more kids come into national camp with already serious past injuries, and at younger ages.
The body needs time to heal and to recover, if kids are playing that many games, it is impossible for the body to recover. Bodies breakdown, leading to more serious injuries.
ECNL is not perfect. But, those clubs are not worried with GS points, and know that their team may not be as strong, but more than likely, will meet a strong and competant opponent. The ECNL has rules regarding the number of tournaments per year and also, as to how many games that can played in a day. If their philosophy is not for you, great, but where does the animosity come in?
Is it becuase some ECNL parents boast or brag? Certain that some do, but I am sure that there are A holes in every league on every team, especially the GS point braggers.
Decide what is best for your kid and leave the animosity and name calling out of it. Who knows if iECNL will be successful. Anyone bragging should shut up, and anyone criticizing should also. Live and let live and stop telling others that they are right or wrong, regardless of which side you are on.
"Marlboro is still a team? Thought they folded this winter?"
Yes, they did fold and all of their players went to Monroe (or was it Red Bull?).
I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE FROM FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE AS MY KID CURRENTLY PLAYS FOR 14 DIFFERENT TEAMS.
Well, maybe it's 13 now that Monroe folded. Or maybe it was Marlboro that folded? Hard to remember when you've got 12 or 13 different uniforms to fold.
March 4 5:46PM... Don't apologize. Your method is sound. I think there are 3425 U12 teams which means the Ukrainian team was the top 1%. They contribute 10,000 despite being U12. I wanted to wait to see the posting for the Stallions was about 3,900 to be sure and sure enough it is indeed over 3,800 with achievement points.
It appears you have found a valid glitch in the gotsoccer ranking calculations. A year younger team should not be treated as MORE valuable. It should not even be treated as the same value. It should be treated as LESS value. The Stallions should not be getting 3,800+ points and they should not even be getting 2,500. If gotsoccer worked across age groups properly the Stallions win would be worth about 1,500 (very roughly depending on the age discount applied). Not a bad deal for the Stallions. I guess they learned well from their other Stallions team.
Thanks for the mistake ECNL poster. Interesting comment. While I like the idea of more development, are you suggesting less soccer played is better? I think you are commenting more on the development mix? We just don't play the game as much as other football friendly countries where boys play daily for hours. The exception probably is on the women's side where our women play 100 games/yr and rank consistently among the top. I don't know who is bashing you on the other board. They suck. We could use more lively conversation on this board at times. Feel free to come back.
Stallions get more points for winning a SECOND FLIGHT average tournament than both THE WINNERS OF THE TOP BRACKET OF MANHATTAN (NYSC) and also the FINALIST PATRIOTS RED!!! That is embarrassing
Patriots RED had the best ranked teams in the country in their BRACKET. Stallions gets more than them? Cmon now!!
I hated when I saw Galacticos/Gunners gain all the points from their Lower Merion Tournament win! But if you think about it they had Pachuca (Top ten at the time in country) Lower Merion Boca (Top 20 in the country at the time) FC Delco U13s, Real NJ who is a U12 team but one of the best in the country. At least you can bite your tongue with that one as there was actually competition!
The Stallions 99/00 had no competition what so ever and they gain almost 4000 pts?! Yes NYSC are the best in the country but they had to beat a lot of very very good teams to win the tournament and all they received was 3133!! Less than Stallions..
I feel bad for both Black and Red Patriots as they should have walked away with more than that!
Yeah, I let the U12 factor muddy the water for me on this one and was fortunate to still end up in the ballpark.
"I guess they learned well from their other Stallions team"
I'm not sure how easy it is to anticipate flighting that will match you up with strong U12 teams (although I suppose Applied Teams lists would be a start). But until/unless gotsoccer addresses this issue, we'll continue to see teams who end up in the situation benefitting from points of rather questinable merit.
gotsoccer's approach effectively limits rewards to teams based on prior success. So the Stallions did so well in part because they didn't have a lot of points to begin with (while the Patriots did).
It's impossible to come up with a nationwide approach to rankings that will always be objective and equitable. But gotsoccer's formula is clearly defined and is reasonably fair (imo).
Although their failure to factor for strong teams that play up becomes an occasional problem all right.
Actually I think gotsoccer does a reasonably good job with a justifiable logic that is hard to argue, BUT the above poster has found a glaring mistake in their logic. I understand how the Stallions are not penalized for already having success. That is not the point. GS does NOT adjust for lower age groups. It does not treat U12 points any differently than U13. In fact, to be a 1% team in U13 you have to have about 10,000pts, but only need about 7,000 to get into the top 1% in U12. As a result, a 7,000pt U12 team will contribute more to the point total than a 7,000pt U13 team. That seems to suggest the 7,000pt U12 team is actually more competitive or more valuable. Nonsense! A reasonable discount in my estimate would place the Stallions flight at about 1,500pts. They jumped about 10 NJ spots ahead of where they really should be based on their win...or said another way over half their points are due to this glitch. If you don't believe me then wait until NJ Cup and watch Parsippany Crew prove that they do not belong 4 ranking spots behind the Stallions!
Oh yeah! Parsippany doesn't belong 4 ranking spots behind the Stallions Gunners either! The Gunners took advantage of the same GS age group glitch. That match would not even be competitive. The Crew are better skilled, better coached, better athletes, and they even have a better goalie with superior soccer IQ. That one is a blowout. The biggest joke on this board is the subjective nonsense about the Gunners being a great possession team...one of the best in the state. Again nonsense. When you look at objective criteria that claim falls apart. When you watch Champions League today how many passes do good possession teams link together? 10-20? That is basically the definition of ball control no? So watch the Gunners against good competition. Do you think they connect 10 passes? They don't even come close to averaging 5 passes before losing possession. Count it next game. They would be lucky if that number averages 3! And before you say "Oh they are not a Champions League team!" remember neither is their competition. It is all relative. By contrast, the BOOT IT Millburn team is actually pretty good based on the same objective criteria. Objectively speaking they are quite disciplined as a team (not just individuals) and it is no surprise they have won two state cups in a row.
I like what I've seen from Parsippany. But I'd say you've gone a bit over the top on them. They have definitely become the new Westfield around here.
Should they win their flight at Annandale this weekend and then blaze their way past the Stallions, Millburn and either Marlboro or Ironbound to reach the NJ Cup semis, then your comments about their superiority might start to become justifiable. Til then though, you're sounding a bit like a Crew claptrap.
Be funny if they did all that only to get blasted by the Gunners in the NJ Cup final though!
What? Sorry Nani just got a red card against Real Madrid! I THINK SIR ALEX IS GOING TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK! That would be funny I agree. They played Millburn and, believe me, Millburn is taking the challenge seriously as they likely get them in the state cup draw. That will be THE RUMBLE! Don't knock the 3rd flight at Annandale. It is fierce competition and many could play 1st flight teams. Teams will have to work hard for their nearly 4,000pts and I would not be so quick to assume Parsippany is the favorite.
"I would not be so quick to assume Parsippany is the favorite."
The 3rd ranked team from Michigan is in Parsippany's group at Annandale. Now I'm not saying they won't have a good trip this weekend. But claims that they will be facing push-over competition seem hopeful to me. They will need to play extremely well if they're to get any points out of this weekend.
But if they do, they could end up with a decent haul as there should be a lot of bonus point opportunities for them should they get out of their group.
Minor leagues? They will be in the top 7 soon. Not loading up on summer tournament points such as TSF, Monroe, Morris and Highland. These teams are loaded with loaner players each summer simply to gain points. Parsippany is a solid team. The bottom of the top ten are fading fast.
"Not loading up on summer tournament points such as TSF, Monroe, Morris and Highland. These teams are loaded with loaner players each summer simply to gain points."
TSF's current point total comes from a Memorial Day tourney, Lou Ramos and EDP.
Parsippany is beginning to bring out both the worst on both sides of the argument. I only hope the snow doesn't stop Annandale from providing topical fodder for one of these sides.
I've seen both Stallions Gunners and Parsippany play in the last season. I think the above poster is being way too negative on the Gunners. Both are talented teams. Parsippany may be more consistent, but if you don't think the Gunners can beat ANYBODY in the country on a given day you are nuts!
"I can't imagine a team from Michigan that's probably been skiing all winter will be too much of a threat!"
Maybe you're right. But it sure sounds like wishful thinking to me.
At the November Disney showcase, Michigan Nova Black lost 2-0 to Calverton while drawing with the Pinecrest team from FLA that played well at the MKO last weekend. They also drew with the #2 team from ILL (Raiders FC) at Disney. So I really don't expect them to be slouches.
But I plan to see the Parsippany/Nova match this weekend so I'll be sure to share my impressions when I get a chance.
Calverton dominated game and all Galacticos could due is punt the ball to buy some time. Galacticos are poorly coached and parents are worst ,crying about getting fouled every second.
Galacticos/Gunners sounds about right. Was the Gunners coach demeaning his players and holding his face in his hands? What a role model. Missed most of the game but saw the last 5 minutes. Shameful.
Nonsense! Gunners were under the gun 1st half, but better team 2nd half. Did anyone posting above even see the game? Congrats to Gunners on a well played match. Give credit where it is due and until YOUR team can go head to head with Calverton Cerritos then...(you fill in the blank).
"Nonsense! Gunners were under the gun 1st half, but better team 2nd half."
Pretty close to my view of it, although I thought the 2nd half was pretty even. A bit more pressure from Calverton but just one good chance while the gunners mustered a couple of chances.
All in all, a very gutsy performance from the Gunners who played with a ton of heart. Calverton is very good you know.
I didn't expect the Gunners to be able to play with Calverton and I was wrong.
Regarding Parsippany, I had a hunch the team from Michigan was going to be strong and I was right about that one.
Gottschee Roma has advanced to the semis in the 4th flight.
NJ Sucks! That is the obvious takeaway from this weekend. Every team, including the Gunners that tied Calverton, ended up close to the bottom of their bracket and did not advance beyond group stage. That sucks! Only Gottschee won their bracket and advanced to the semis, but even they lost and that was in the 4th tier where they basically get no points for the effort. The biggest point gainers were Parsippany and MatchFit Chelsea who get only token achievement points for winning a game before finishing near last in their groups. Interesting implications for state cup though. MatchFit looks positioned to roll over their corner of the state cup bracket. At least they were competitive in the top flight of Jeff Cup with tough teams and even beat Hockessin DE Nike Rush who beat East Brunswick last fall badly. That bodes very well for MF's 2nd NJ Cup match-up with EBSC. Obviously there is no question they will roll over Gottschee in the first game. 5-0 Game 1? 3-1 over EBSC I would guess? Maybe MF Chelsea 2000 will be a contender for the cup. On the other side of the bracket forget Parsippany. They must have been drinking the above poster's Kool Aid about how good they are. Millburn is a solid team to the last man and looks poised to roll through them.
I was not at Jeff cup so I can only talk about what I witnessed at Annandale.
First thing first. The best team in the entire tournament was the Toronto Academy. They were obviously in the wrong flight. They were strong. Fast. A great amount of ability. Legit goal scorers. And played some very attractive stuff. Well done to them.
Calverton was also very impressive but didn't get anything out of it. Their Number 10 didn't play vs dix hills and hills took complete advantage of it. He is the team and sets the tone and flow of the game, he's that good.
World class beat patriots 2-1 and that's when I witnessed a kick and run team. They have very good players so to sink down to a kick and run team is sad. They also had 3 guest players.
Dix hills were very good over the weekend. Parents are the worst out there. Solid striker with a very good central kid. Weak on the outside but strong throughout the middle.
Gunners are very strong and oganized. They have a very good defense. Both games they lost came from 2 pks. So to give up two goals all weekend and both being penalties, says a lot. Even though they created chances to score, never were they a real threat.
Beachside was actually not that convincing. I was shocked to see them win everything. They barely beat gunners and only did with a Pk in last ten minutes. But they did convince me when they beat world class very comfortable. World class are worn out now..
Yonkers were average throughout the tournament. Nothing special.
Hands down Toronto was the team to beat. They were exciting to watch.
No matter what, well done to all teams for competing in such a great tournament. And congrats on all winners
Funny about Toronto Academy as I (foolishly) managed to miss them. Saw the Gottcschee Blue team once and they looked very big and strong. An outstanding forward and some BIG and very capable teammates.
So if Toronto beat Gottschee Blue 2-0 in the final, they had to be very good.
Gunners can't score. The over possesion style limits chances and opprotunities and if they did not have that fantastic goalie would not even be in these conversations. Parents will give-up with out results. Some already looking. But shhhh don't tell the coach or the crazy/wacko manager.
I've seen the gunners play. Their not the best. They have some very good players but yet the gap between their best and worst is pretty big. But who cares??! Why talk about them as if they are the greatest thing. Their are many more teams to talk about. Or better yet, talk about something worth talking about. Don't waste everyone's time bc you have something against a team and want to come on here and whine about it.
What about mfc? Look very impressive. What about beachside? What about patriots, both black and red. What about BWG. They have two very good teams that will challenge anyone.
Easy Brunswick is at Baltimore mania this weekend. Anyone else there?
Most coaches take this wkd off to prepare for league play. Only desperate teams will travel down to Baltimore to try and get a few cheap points. Fields stink down there anyway.
Depends on where the "desperate" teams are traveling from, no?
Looks like all the teams in the U13 flights in Baltimore are from MD, VA and PA. So maybe this one appeals more to teams that don't have so far to go. Still, some good teams there with the top flight value looking like it will be worth 5,500 - 6,000.
The MAPS Challenge is the big one here in Jersey, played at Tuckahoe. An 8500 valued top flight will include Marlboro, Monroe, Black Dawgs, SJEB and Morris Utd. (who sure have been busy so far this spring, if not very successful as yet). Interesting that Toms River was relegated to the B flight there.
Ironbound's spring warmup will feature recent movers Ironbound and Stallions Academy 99/00 in a top flight that will be worth 1875.
Also, a tourney in PA this weekend that has Lower Merion (#33 nationally and Mon U (#37 nationally) which should give the top flight some decent value. I mention this one only because Gottschee Roma are also on the Accepted list.
Not sure why playing a tournament this weekend would be a bad way to go about preparing one's team for a spring league schedule. As a matter of fact, sounds like a pretty good way to do so to me.
"At least they were competitive in the top flight of Jeff Cup with tough teams and even beat Hockessin DE Nike Rush who beat East Brunswick last fall badly."
I think it would be fair to add that Hockessin were beaten by every team that got in front of them at the Jeff Cup. Bonus points for MFC no doubt. But it looks like it wasn't that tough an assignment this weekend as the Hackessin team that went to the MAPS Cup last fall had to be a very different team.
Please. u13 is done. Next year best players go to Academies and all this chatter will be a waste of time other than having some fun while it lasted. 4 NJ u12 teams ranked top ten nationally developing solid players right in front of all of you and you have no clue.
You came on the U13 blog to share that wisdom? You are an idiot and we are all dumber for having to read that. Go away, go to the all importnt U12 blog.
Name calling doesn't change the fact that all this talk about ranking NJ town teams at the u13 level is no longer relevant to anything except for a few more months of fun for a few soccer dads who don't have a clue.
I understand the conversation here has no relevance to you. So I assume that will be the last we hear of you as you'll be tooo busy being "clued in" elsewhere.
First, I come to this board for controversy and an "inside scoop" more than its sagacity. You should know that proud, clued in U12 pop! What exactly should we have a clue about in your opinion? That the town team talk will be replaced by DA talk in a year or so? Thanks for stating the obvious. Perhaps you just want to promote little Johnny? Go get your own U12 board. If you are really clued in and so sure Johnny will be a successful pro player then I assume you are going to send Johnny to an overseas academy. Any other plan is just not enlightened. Because let's face it...Johnny's top ranked CS team has never beaten regional Baltimore Bays. Never even close. Since you are a U12 expert you then know none of these teams stand a chance against Barca USA (please go to the Surf Cup and find out) who has put players at top international academies including a clueless U13 age player who doesn't know how good Johnny U12 is. Your team's rankings, while cool, are also a little silly to talk about because the rankings and early year national team players (if little Johnny is that good) are heavily weighted to the East Coast and California, but that all changes at adulthood. In a year you will be in the same U13 boat as the bloggers here and little Johnny will have to leave CS for NYRB. Unfortunately, on the world scene, NYRB is a crappy organization from top to bottom that has never won its own lower quality league in 15 years and whose academy has only produced a couple legitimate (if you can call it that) pros in the same time period. The most recent one playing for its 1st team got paid last year a paltry sum that any 1st year college grad would laugh at. Oops! That isn't an enlightened plan so I assume you are going to send little Johnny overseas. Please. Clue us in. According to you, we seem to need it.
Weekend point totals are out. Parsippany did not get any points as suggested above because they did not win a game. The big point winner was not semi-finalist Gottschee, but MatchFit 2000 who got over 1,800 semi-final points for the 1st flight at Jeff Cup in addition to the 300. I must say I missed that one too. MF finished 3rd in their bracket of 4, but because there was no semi-final game actually played and they had more points then 2nd place in the other bracket GS gives them semi-final points.
I underestimated the Gottschee Roma points by a bit which was my mistake.
Also screw up on Parsippany by taking another poster's word on a bonus points win for them that actually never happened. My bad again!
Regarding MFC, I must admit that I was surprised by the points award they received. The 300 bonus points for beating Hockessin was obvious. But it looks like they were also awarded 1883 semi-finalist points despite finishing 3rd in their group? I must assume these points went to MFC instead of the 2nd place team from the other group (Penn Fusion Red) because MFC scored more points in their scoring system (13 to 11).
While I certainly haven't seen it all, I don't recall an award like the one MFC got at Jeff Cup in the past. But I suppose it could happen again in tournaments that include points for goals and clean sheets in their scoring method.
The MFC semi-final points look like they may be another gotsoccer glitch to me.
The fact that Hockessin didn't show up and got smoked by the other 3 teams in their group is the real reason MFC got those points. Looks like all 4 teams in the other group were competitive so the scoring system resulted in 3 of 4 teams from one group getting points. Sorry, but that ain't right.
Lower Merion Boca (PAE) is ranked 34th in the country so they contribute maximum points to any flight they play in. They went to Annandale last weekend (2nd flight) and were beaten by a combined score of 1-8 by three lower ranked teams.
Mon U Arsenal (PAE) is ranked 42nd in the country so they too contribute maximum points to any flight they play in. At DTS they were beaten by both Ironbound and Morris Utd. and they didn't have a very good time at the FC Europa tourney two weeks ago either.
Both Lower Merrion Boca and Mon U Arsenal will be in the top flight at the March Into Cup this Saturday in PA. The flight value there will be worth 5,250.
Gottschee Roma will be in the top flight there as well and can score some decent points with a victory over Mon U in the group stage. And if they advance and get Lower Merion in the final, they could have a BIG weekend (a la Ironbound at DTS).
I wouldn't normally like Gottschee Roma's chances of beating teams in the top 1% nationally. But neither one of these PAE teams appear to be firing on all cylinders right now so you never know.
Clearly 12:43 and 1:12 you are the same person. Sorry to win all the points this last weekend. Since we are apologizing I will just say sorry ahead of time for Matchfit knocking you out of state cup in the 1st round. The only thing that "ain't right" is a real 1st flight team having to play a 4th flight team in state cup.
Did it really take you 11 minutes after your "yawn" to come up with your most recent "gem?"
I'd be surprised if MFC didn't beat Gottschee in the NJ Cup match. But the knowledge that an upset there would result in a very unhappy clown here is appealing.
Pda Rooney with big test this weekend. Faces Yonkers NY Friday and the #2 and #3 teams from Mass in the Region 1 premier league on Sat. Should be very interesting
That is a tough schedule all right. I'm assuming that "Yonkers United Rush" is the same as the "Golden Touch" team, right?
I saw FC Blazers at the MAPS Challenge in the fall and thought they were particularly big. They took care of Patriots Red pretty easily in the match I saw. They couldn't deal with NYSC there, but not too many can.
I'd love to see Rooney and NYSC go at it on 4/21! That one should be great!
Big test? Test of what? I assume Yonkers is a scrimmage since they are not in Region 1 Premier League. I'm not sure why that is important especially when Yonkers has not produced much in the way of results recently. Shouldn't PDA roll them? Also, what is Region 1 Premier League? Obviously it is brand new this year for U13. It looks like US Youth's poor man's NEPL...enormous regional travel commitment w/o the same level of competition. They say they select the top 16 Region 1 teams, but the highest ranked team in it at U13 is #13 in the region on gotsoccer. Some as low as #100. Is there really a need for this beyond NEPL and EDP? Is there a national trophy to win? What is the end game? Just trying to understand.
"I'm not sure why that is important especially when Yonkers has not produced much in the way of results recently."
They just reached the semis in a 10,000 point flight at Annandale. Are you familiar with Golden touch? Have you seen them play before? Win, lose or draw, they are always a very tough match.
Seems like some just want to be argumentative. But I suppose that's the point here for many.
Looks like it's been a tough weekend for PDA. Couldn't find a score for their EDP match against Yonkers from Friday evening , but they drew with Western United and were beaten 3-0 by FC Blazers on Saturday.
In the MAPS Challenge, Morris Utd. had a pretty good 1st day, beating HBC Flames after drawing with Monroe. Not so good for Monroe who lost their other match to FC Europa. Morris Utd. lead this group and can advance to the final with a win over Europa on Sunday morning. Monroe looks to be all but done here.
In the other top flight group, the Black Dawgs are barking again! But they'll probably have to beat Marlboro on Sunday morning to advance to the final. Marlboro will need a win and some help to get through while SJEB has had better days.
In the 2nd flight at Tuckahoe, Mt. Olive sits on top after Saturday with wins over Pleasant Valley and Toms River. If they can beat a pretty decent Staten Island team tomorrow they will likely win the flight.
For those who care about the 3rd flight, an exciting Cherry Hill/Delran final looks to be brewing!
Meanwhile, in Newark, Ironbound drew with Stallions 99/00 and both will advance anyway (in a 3 team group?). Ironbound gets New Revolution in the semis while the Stallions take on DoL.
And Gottschee Roma looks to have had a good day at the Buckingham tourney in PA, jumping on the "Beat Montgomery United" bandwagon to win their group. They haven't posted the score for the final against Lower Merion yet, but even a loss there would still move Gottschee up in the rankings. And if they won it, they will have had a VERY good day.
Still no score posted for the Gottschee/Lower Merion final. But I found this on the Buckingham Utd. site"
"We were fortunate enough to get in most of Today's Boys Games. We ended up calling it about 3pm when the snow did not appear to be letting up. Thank you to all the teams that came our and for your patience, understanding and support. We will be determining the Finalists and contacting everyone."
So it looks like they may not have played it yesterday? If not, and they simply "award" the championship based on the Group results, it would seem that Gottschee would get the nod for scoring more points. But I can't imagine that would sit too well with Lower Merion so my guess is that they will reschedule this one at some future point.
Simply awarding the championship to Gottschee would be even cheaper than the Galatcicos' U12 points or MFC's 3rd place "semi-final" coup.
The poster who recently claimed "NJ sucks" is getting hard to argue with.
With 5 of the 8 teams in the top flight at the MAPS Challenge, the absolute fewest points NJ could collectively earn there would be semi-final points for Marlboro and nothing for the other 4.
And that's exactly what happened!
Couple this with the once mighy PDA unable to win a match against two different teams from MA yesterday and the state of NJ U13 soccer does not look very good right now.
The deserving winner is Ironbound. The stallions just cemented their status as a well coached team that has no real standout players...porous defense and no threat on attack. Their two big forwards had no chance against Ironbound's excellent defense anchored by an equally large defender who could easily outrun the Stallions forwards and must be considered one of the better defenders in the state (2nd best in my opinion). The only threatening shot all game was late when the RF on Stallions rung one off the crossbar. Continue to believe Parsippany will knock out the Stallions in the upcoming NJ Cup 1st round. 3-0 Parsippany?
Mt. Olive collapsed in the 2nd flight at the MAPS Challenge losing to Boca Jrs. and then the effective final against Staten Island.
Marlboro apparently went home before their 3rd place consolation match and some rec team wearing their unis got drubbed by FC Europa. Samba beat the Flames in the top flight final.
Some good news for Jersey? Um, Cherry Hill over Delran in the 3rd flight? New Egypt over EB Gladiators in the 4th?
Ironbound and Marlboro were big point winners on the weekend. Could be an interesting matchup for their 1st Nj Cup match technically in the 2nd round since both have byes. Marlboro may be less of a favorite as most expect. Ironbound has one of the better defenses in the state and they showed it today. They also have one of the biggest benches as do the Stallions 99/00. Kind of funny to watch at the finals! I guess that makes sense when such a good club can be had for only about $800/yr fees. Last fall I thought they lacked any serious threat on attack to complement the defense, but #10 on Ironbound (affectionately called "Papi" from the sidelines) is developing well and #17 is a bigger, faster threat than they used to have i.e. they can now score too! There is no jaw dropping skilled player like you may see from EBSC, Millburn, Gottschee, a Gunner/Galactico or two etc., but EVERY player is more than competent. Good team. I still think Marlboro will win as they have a few players at that really higher skill level and they are not dependent on any one large, strong forward like some teams. Ironbound's one great defender (2nd best in state in my opinion) doesn't just have the task of stopping one great forward. Marlboro will come in numbers and test Ironbound as a unit and that just might be the edge in a very close game! 2-1 Marlboro? This will be fun one to watch.
Ironbound may not really move up to #12 by passing SJEB because the biggest point winner on the weekend is Gottschee and a final win by them would push them just ahead of Ironbound replacing SJEB at #12. Since their final was canceled in the PA snow those points may not even be realized until June when the rescheduled match is played. As a poster above mentioned, they may also hit immediately to the detriment of Ironbound if the leader at the time, Gotschee, is awarded the championship. Implications for 1st round state cup? Like Ironbound, it looks like underdog Gottschee might be able to give favorite Matchfit a real go, but Gottschee has lost 2 key midfielders for the next weekend game including their best player so expect Matchfit to roll. Likewise, expect Westfield to roll Morris Utd especially after Morris Utd's poor showing at MAPS Spring Challenge. No opinion on Mt Laurel/NJSA 04 game. Any insight?
Weird weekend for Mo Utd. They beat the Flames and then lost to Boca Jrs. the next day?
I guess the "on any given day..." thing applies to them so Westfield had better hope this weekend's Sunday version shows up to play them. I've got to like Westfield in this on though.
Gottschee did find the "right" place to go this weekend from a gotsoccer perspective, even if it takes a few months before they get at least 2500 points (should they lose to Lower Merion in a rescheduled final in June). But if they lost two midfielders this weekend then it may not have been a good warmup for MFC. I'll take MFC here but only because of the injuries.
Ironbound does seem poised to take out Marlboro, eh? I'll take Marlboro anyway. Either way, Millburn must be feeling a bit better about their draw now.
And if Monroe looks as bad as people say and Toms River/Mt. Laurel continue to struggle, might NJSA (or even Princeton Orange) get the opportunity to face Millburn in the semis? In other words, that lower left part of the bracket is looking pretty weak righ now.
"...the biggest point winner on the weekend is Gottschee and a final win by them would push them just ahead of Ironbound replacing SJEB at #12."
My point calculations were all wrong last week so I'm not feeling all that reliable a source. But if I've got this one right, a Gottschee win over Lower Merion in the March Into final would push them past MFC up to 10th in the state.
It would be pretty funny if underdog Gottschee were actually ranked higher than favorite MFC when the two face off.
Spent the weekend at Tuckahoe and the biggest take away was it was COLD! Wind, flurries, sleet and rain were all on the menu. Hard to guage games based on those conditions. Saw the Haddonfield, Monroe and marlboro teams play and all looked good on Sat. Results not the great but Marlboro and Haddonfield are big and strong and were in all games. Not sure what happened Sunday but wind was blowing and most likely the barrage of goals came with a strong wind at opponents back? Also saw 2nd bracket Staten Island beat a kick and run team from Mt Olive, believe they won the flight. Also BOCA was giving up goals seemed like every 5 minutes against TR. Didn't get a final.
"Please lease Toms out of any discussion here. We would rather just play soccer."
I thought Toms River might have been slighted by being dropped into the 2nd flight in Tuckahoe. But with them finishing dead last there, looks like they'd have been better suited to battle it out with Cherry Hill and Delran in the 3rd flight.
But look on the bright side...if "Toms" keeps playing the way they've been of late, there won't be any reason to discuss them here.
I cannot believe people are commenting on here so negatively. How could one assess after the weather this weekend in NJ??? You are all obviously un educated people. Post POSITIVES...YOu are NOT the one playing . Not to mention did you ever think that a young boy might go on here and read the negative posts. BULLY
"Not to mention did you ever think that a young boy might go on here and read the negative posts."
I'm not at all concerned that my son is reading this site as I know he's not. And for any parent who doesn't have a very good handle on where their kid goes on the internet, this site is the least of their problems.
The kids get to play on the field. But this is a place for the parents to play. So toughen up or take a hike!
"Let me guess, you thought Marlboro played great but..."
The real problem is that the whiner could have come from not only Marlboro, but from Monroe, Morris Utd., Haddonfield, SJEB, Mt. Olive, Toms River, Boca Jrs. and even PDA.
I did not see Marlboro, but I did see Ironbound. They will not have a problem with Marlboro's size. Any thoughts on the NJ Cup matchup? I'd peg Ironbound as the favorite in this one.
Haven't seen Ironbound since last spring so I can't comment on their current squad. But from what I recall, not only weren't they a big team, but were actually somewhat small.
Unless that's changed, I can't imagine that they'll not find Marlboro's size tough to deal with.
Seriously? That has changed. #35 will be a head taller than anybody in the midfield for Marlboro and if the hub-bub above is at all accurate then there is no Marlboro player that will be able to get by #15 at CB or handle his physical play.
This PDA Spring Kickoff tourney scheduled for April 6th looks pretty incestuous to me. They have posted the brackets for this 6 team fiasco and they ought to be ashamed.
In one group they've placed PDA Rooney, Mt. Olive and NJ Force Arsenal. In the other there's PDA Jinky, PDA South and FC Copa Porto.
So they took the two highest ranked non-PDA teams and stuffed them into the same group as Rooney. Meanwhile, they should feel pretty confident that Jinky will win the other group. And even if they don't, they've still got a second shot at it with PDA South.
Rooney's presence will push the flight value up considerably and it looks like it will be about 2500 points as a result. And while this won't really do anything for Rooney (because they already have too many points to get anything out of a 2500 flight value), it will mean the winner of the other bracket will be awarded about 1200 points just to lose to Rooney in the final.
Nothing like "guaranteeing" some points for one of your own teams with your own tournament. And with just 6 teams involved, only the two group winners will get anything so the guests are all sure to go home empty-handed.
I find it hard to believe that a club as influential as PDA can't get some higher ranked teams to come play with them. And it looks like Mt. Olive and NJ Force are the unwitting pawns in this charade.
I can feel pretty sure about one thing though... PDA Jinky will be moving about 1200 points up the State rankings soon. And maybe even twice that much if Rooney tanks the final.
Good post on PDA. Their tourney...their rules I guess. Is anyone really surprised? Maybe the outcome is about right anyway. I'd rather see Jinky move up to the 1st page on GS than Mt. Olive move any higher. I've never seen a group of parents yell angrily at injured kids on the field to get off just so they could try to win their game. I guess they don't realize extra time will be added. No fan of that team! Make them play Rooney.
Ok so we can not talk about any NJ teams on here because they are all terrible. In fact U13 is a waste of time because every good player in the state is going to the Red Bulls. So with that out, we have NCAA, spring training baseball and the NFL draft?? or we can ignore the haters and talk about whatever we want?
If you're questioning why other teams didn't apply, I can't say for sure. But perhaps other top teams don't want to pad PDA's war chest with tournament fees?
Anyway, it would appear that half of the teams in this 6 team collection aren't paying the $675 entry fee anyway (PDAs Rooney, Jinky and South). So why not offer some stronger competition a free ride as well and see who shows up.
The gotsoccer updates from the weekend have been posted and my projections were on the money in most cases but still off the mark in a couple.
Here are the ones I got right one the money:
MARLBORO / 1515 IRONBOUND / 550 MORRIS UNITED / 300 STALLIONS 99 / 283 EB GLADIATORS / 207 PASCO FIRE / 183 NEW EGYPT / 115 FC NEW JERSEY 99 / 72
Here are a pair I missed by just a couple of points:
CHERRY HILL / 212 DELRAN / 85
I shorted Mt. Olive by 667 as I forgot to give them finalist points for finishing 2nd in a group of 5. So they totaled 1267 as opposed to 600.
The Gottshcee award looks to be a bit of a mess. While it would seem the finalist points I'd calculated for them were correct (and effectively in the bank), gotsoccer has instead awarded semi-finalist points to both them and the other finalist (Lower Merion). So it looks like this is simply and error that will eventually be corrected or changed assuming they play the final at some future point.
I took another look and it turns out I was just a bit off on the flight value for this one as it turned out to be a bit higher than I thought.
So the finalist points they should have already earned would push their state total up to 4523 and nudge them past Stallions 99/00 into 13th in the state.
Finalist points for them would push their state total up to 5306 (as opposed to the 4523 I just posted) and slot them in between Morris Utd. and Ironbound at #12.
"10:08 I don't think the pda teams are playing FREE at their own tournament. pda has guaranteed teams (their own)paying the entrance fee."
You could be right, although I'd have thought this one might be included as part of the "package."
Anyway, might another reason for the lack of teams there be that some applied but weren't accepted? I mean, might this flight set up be more than just their way of dealing with only 3 outside teams wanting in and be diabolocal from the start? The first two "decent" teams that Rooney will have no problem with and the first 3rd team that they feel confident Jinky (or even PDA South) can take care of?
I'll admit it, I can be a little overboard in my supicions about the "sportsmanship" at PDA.
I'm not so sure that the PDA tourney is weak across all the boys' age groups. I had taken a look at the applied U12s a while and they looked pretty strong. Might just be U13 that they have this problem with.
Just checked.the U12s again and there are some good non-PDA teams there all right. But they've set the groups up in a somewhat peculiar manner there too (imo).
Monroe is left in dissaray after the two daddy managers manipulated the coach into forming an academy like team to suit their own children and get them noticed. Players were benched and invitational players brought in to win. Barcelona supposedly formed to train and merge with Heat. Several players left. The Red Bull coach built his resume and quit to join an academy in Canada I have been told. The two managers pulled their children and several players more left. Barcelona is defunct. It is not a healthy environment from what I am reading on this boared and according to those in the know who have posted.
Thanks for the "truth" about the Barcelona team... I think.
But a U12 team from where? Monroe? If so, why is there no listing of them either in gotsoccer's U12s or on the Monroe own web site. As a matter of fact, the only U12s listed on Monroe's site are girls teams.
So where did this talented U12 team that played up in the summer come from? And, better yet, where did they go?
The Coach ended up at Whitecaps.cant really blame him for building his resume.
After all they did play a great style of ball irrespective of whether they won every game therefore the players that he worked with must have been given some damn good training.
Really intelligent people on here posting about a teams one or 2 games they lost. What is the matter with you people? I happen to work with someone whose child got a full ride Division 1 school who played on a regular Club team. Go Figure!!!!
If the former Monroe coach decided to move on to a better job than he had with Red Bulls then good for him.
And shame on any parents who would begrudge him the opportunity to advance his career due to their own selfish nature. If their kid got a chance to move to a better situation they'd be off "like rats out of an aqueduct!"
Very revealing statements with Monroe if read between the lines. We cannot fault the Monroe coach for leaving to better his career. Why could they not receive another quality coach from the Red Bulls to continue the fine play. By reading the disenchantment from the parents it makes the rest of us wonder if it was a typical case of trying to get certain players into the Red Bull program. And the Red Bull coach leaving took that opportunity away from certain players so they also left. Politics again raises its head in youth sports while the team suffers. No loyalty.
Or maybe you could just appreciate that a coach and a few players carried the team to a leve the team would never have gotten to in first place. No appreciation.
The battle for supremacy between Delco and the MAPS Cup (which will both be played on the weekend of May 25th) has begun to heat up already!
Delco's Applied team list features a lot more teams and a number of the heavy hitters including Hockessin (3), Fewster (5), Patriots Red (7) Penn Fusion Red (14), Yonkers (15) and Penn Fusion Black (15). (Current Region 1 ranks)
But might less be more? The current Applied list for MAPS has only 14 teams on it. But the current Region 1 top 6 includes NYSC (1), Beachside (2), World Class (4), Calverton (8), EB (12) and Gunners (17).
Pretty close all right. But from a GS rankings perspective, it looks like MAPS has a slight edge.
Anyway, it looks like they'll both manage to attract enough top teams to make their tourneys significant and will probably try to avoid butting heads on the same weekend again next year.
In reply to March 20 8:00PM "Why could they(Monroe) not receive another quality coach from the Red Bulls?"
...because the Red Bull 1st team would have taken any quality coach they did find, but even they could not find one. What a horse$hit organization! Ooops. I am sorry. This is the program every parent here wants their kid to play for. That is kind of like wanting your young star pitcher to play for the Mets WITHOUT the big contract.
Enough with Monroe parents! Players quit, parents work the system. SHOCKER! It is nothing new. What we should be focusing on is building character first and soccer players second. Looking for APPRECIATION for bringing little Johnny in to reach a level and then pulling him like a rat off an aqueduct is a little stretch. Character simply is not important to some parents. Another SHOCKER! It was a good team before your little Johnny was there and it will be a good team now that you have quit. Just hope your reputation does not catch up with you one day to prevent little Johnny from receiving that very important college scholarship. The wrungs on the ladder you believe you have climbed will hurt on the way down.
"Was there anyone last year on Monroe worth talking about? I didn't see them."
Do you mean you saw Monroe last year and didn't see any players who impressed you or that you simply didn't see them at all?
I saw Monroe about 3 or 4 times last spring (including that big turnaround they pulled on EB in the NJ Cup quater final) and thought there was more than a couple of players who were a pleasure to watch. So I'd be skeptical about opinions from anyone who wants to argue that there was no talent there.
Clueless and bitter hiding behind a computer talking about "little johnnie" 12 year old boys that he appears to knois lecturing about character and a pro soccer organization. Why did I read or even respond to this....
And I should add that, on all of these occasisions, I found the Monroe parents to be a well-behaved group. So it's "interesting" to see them slapping eachother around here now.
Watched Monroe play many of times. System was good, but clearly no stand out player. Average-Good handful of players playing in a good system. This coming from a disinterested observer.
"The battle for supremacy between Delco and the MAPS Cup ..."
The Delco list indicates whether teams are "accepted" (i.e. paid?) or not. Of those, Morris Utd. is the only one from Jersey. Stallions 99/00, Princeton Spurs and Toms River are also on this applied list. FC Jersey is there too, but that's got to be pretty old by now.
Jersey teams on the MAPS applied list include EB, Gunners, TSF, Monroe and Gottschee.
So it looks like most of the stronger NJ teams are opting for the green, green grass of home (Tuckahoe).
I saw Monroe. Never said there was NO talent. Good team. Conversation turned on a coach and a couple amazing players that left the team w/o talent. I can say Millburn, PDA, Gunners, EB etc all have a couple stand out players. Didn't see it on Monroe. Besides, from the sidelines, it seemed like the coach was always angry at his kids.
"Clueless and bitter hiding behind a computer...."
If you are so open tell us who you are. I don't think you should judge someone's character because they left a team or not and certainly not unless you know all the facts. I don't rely on a soccer coach to mold my son's character although I prefer him to have a good coach. I teach my kid that long before he steps onto a soccer field. I guess I AM clueless. Wait. Let me think. NO. You're the clown calling other people names.
This may be a complete rumor but I hope to get a bit more insight on this after a few ppl add their comments..
Word is, EB, Gunners and Marlboro will be combining teams for the start of the fall season. Word on the street is the best players from each team will create the roster. I heard this from a friend and not sure it's true but I will say this, if the best players from each of these three teams come together and form a squad, I don't see too many teams competing with them. Academy teams included!!
EB have the 4 Spanish players who are so good technical, Gunners have 4 of the top level players out there and the athletsim Marlboro brings with their top 5 is nuts.

Well, you can say that again! (Oh, nevermind as you already did).
This one sounds even more improbable than the Gunners/PDA runor that surfaced here a while back. So I'm wondering if it's coming from the same "reliable" source.
Agree with the last post. I was the one commenting on the "possibility" of the Galactico/PDA move NOT the one who started the rumor and it seems somebody quoted MY post OUT OF CONTEXT. The entirety of my comment suggested there was a strong incentive for a Galactico move and PDA was a sensible fit and I suggested another couple as well. I was wrong about PDA, but don't forget that a change DID occur shortly thereafter and it was Galacticos to the Stallions which were closer to home. Not fantasy! I think the poster above is the same poster who first revealed the Galactico rumor and he/she seems to suggest I am the source. Nope...not the source, but I will weigh in with analysis again since I was right about the change the first time. I don't see the incentive for change this time. I don't see how it could even practically work among three different towns and locations and how they would deal with all the players who paid fees for the team and did not make the new "Dream Team". Furthermore, this dream team would still not win in my opinion. This rumor is fantasy created by a poster trying to stir the pot here. Entertaining for sure, but please don't quote me out of context.
Forget this rumor! The pay per view event of this weekend's NJ Cup is about to begin. Mt Laurel won with ease and I presume TSF had a walk in the park yesterday, but today features a potential BATTLE in Princeton at noon! ...two academy programs that field teams in the NEPL. One an established NJ academy, Matchfit, that does play in the Pre_academy league and sits atop the U12 NEPL Blue standings and the other a new NJ offshoot from Queens based Gottschee that have managed to beat EB, Galacticos (your dream team), Millburn (2 time state cup champ) and the Redbulls in recent months. Unlike one poster's suggestion above that MFC is the favorite, I am inclined to believe Gottschee is the favorite in this one. This could easily go either way and it is a shame one will have to go home so early. Get ready to see two teams roll up their sleeves and go at each other today. This one is worth a watch.
The Galacticos/PDA merger rumor was pure fantasy. The fact that the Galacticos ended up changing clubs (yet again) from FC Jersey to Stallions has nothing to do with a "merger."
Perhaps you don't recall that, prior to becoming the FC Jersey Galacticos, they were the MFC Galacticos. And before that they were the Pasco Galacticos. And before that...
So the fact that they moved yet again has nothing to do with any meger.
But the quote of your December post may have been out of context as I just went back to find some "merger" foolishness. Please forgive me fo my error.
You said you thought it was "likely" and now it looks like you were very wrong.
Gottschee was soft. MFC included '99 academy players not just '00 team as advertised. Either way, they schooled Gottschee on how to play with intensity from the first whistle to the last and that has nothing to do with age. I couldn't agree with the last comment more. Look out to anyone in their way!

NJ Parent here.
Keep hating on Galacticos.. They thrive off of it. Sad little parents out there...
"keep hating on the Galacticos. They thrive on it". If thriving is losing they are very good thrivers. LOL.
When they're good they are VERY good though.
Thank you 4:21 pm gunners parent.
Maybe?
Call me crazy, but like most, I log on to read all the smut. Give me my fix please.
"Thank you 4:21 pm gunners parent. "
NJSA has lost their USSF status (or was that MFC?)
Parsippany are the GREATEST TEAM on the planet (or is that Westfield?)
Toms River's "Crewe" have an extra "e!"
Ironbound Navigators have gotten lost!
I KNOW ALL THIS FIRST HAND BECAUSE MY KID PLAYS FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE TEAMS!!!
That's allI've got for now. Hope that's a good fix for you!
Ahhhhh. Thanks. I needed that.
It all sounds kind of silly when you put it that way!
Keep up the good work to all teams!!!
Marlboro won't even be a team
Marlboro is still a team? Thought they folded this winter?
Wow sorry. I do not know how that ECNL post got here. I was responding to a u13 girls post. Sorry.
"Wow sorry. I do not know how that ECNL post got here. I was responding to a u13 girls post. Sorry"
Thanks for the follow up. I'd just finished your previous post and was about to ask if you'd misplaced it in the wrong thread.
But an interesting read regardless.
Feel free to come back.
wow!!!
Stallions get more points for winning a SECOND FLIGHT average tournament than both THE WINNERS OF THE TOP BRACKET OF MANHATTAN (NYSC) and also the FINALIST PATRIOTS RED!!! That is embarrassing
Stallions- 3633
Patriots Black- 4319
Patriots Red- 3545
NYSC- 3133
WOW!
Wow! what a shame..
"Don't apologize. Your method is sound."
"Wow! what a shame."
gotsoccer's approach effectively limits rewards to teams based on prior success.
I'm actually surprised Parsippany got placed in the Copa (3rd out of 5)division at Annandale. You'd think they'd have a fairly easy time of it there.
Parsippany sounds awesome. Has anyone played them recently?
Parsippany? wow!!!! this has become a minor league blog if we are talking about such teams.
"...this has become a minor league blog if we are talking about such teams."
Well there certainly are a lot of "minor league" contributions such as your's here.
Ouch! Now you hurt my feelings.
Minor leagues?
They will be in the top 7 soon. Not loading up on summer tournament points such as TSF, Monroe, Morris and Highland. These teams are loaded with loaner players each summer simply to gain points. Parsippany is a solid team. The bottom of the top ten are fading fast.
"Ouch! Now you hurt my feelings."
Well you hurt Parsippany's feelings and their the best team in NJ since Westfield so there!
Speaking of Lou Ramos. TSF won its flight getting passed Patriots Black in the semi's. Parsippany was there but did not make it out of it's bracket.
"...if you don't think the Gunners can beat ANYBODY in the country on a given day you are nuts! "
Is being over the top a requirement here?
I like the Gunners a lot myself. But "ANYBODY in the country?"
I don't think they could beat Calverton under any circumstances. But maybe they'll prove me wrong this weekend.
"The 3rd ranked team from Michigan is in Parsippany's group at Annandale."
I can't imagine a team from Michigan that's probably been skiing all winter will be too much of a threat!
Cant imagine a team from Parsippany blogging all winter to be much of a threat either.
Yes, and please let us know about that Calverton team from Maryland. I heard most players are playing up.
"Yes, and please let us know about that Calverton team from Maryland. "
I hope to catch them as well and will opine away if I do.
Where did you "hear" that the Calverton team will have most of their players playing up?
Snow hates soccer schedules in March!!
I am sure Parsippany will use the bad weather as an excuse for their bad play this weekend.
Has there been any word on the state of the fields at Annandale and Jeff Cup? VA. friends...
No one seems to care that Mt. Laurel will be in the same flight as Parsippany.
But I won't hold my breath waiting for the two to meet in the final.
Annandale fields are good to go.
Jefferson has some closed for sat morning. High winds are helping.
Galacticos: Scoreless draw with Calverton!
Shameful.
Saw Parsippany didnt fare well. Not surprised.
Annandale and Jeff Cups NJ gotsoccer points:
Gottschee Roma / 308
Match Fit / 300
Parsippany / 280
Gunners / 0
Morris Utd. / 0
Mt. Laurel / 0
TSF / 0
EB not at Baltimore Mania.
Looks like a few of the first round NJ Cup matches have been scheduled (as much as you can trust them on accuracy).
3/23: Mount Laurel / NJSA (12:00 Trotter's Crossing Complex)
3/24: MFC / Gottschee Roma (12:00 Princeton Day School)
4/6: Morris Utd. / Westfield (2:00 TBA)
I'm somewhat familiar with the U12 scene and agree that there are some very good players in that age group as well.
But the need to be a dummy about it...?
Name calling doesn't change the fact that all this talk about ranking NJ town teams at the u13 level is no longer relevant to anything except for a few more months of fun for a few soccer dads who don't have a clue.
I understand the conversation here has no relevance to you. So I assume that will be the last we hear of you as you'll be tooo busy being "clued in" elsewhere.
Can't say I'll miss you.
My point totals were all wrong!
YAWN!
Clearly 3:07 and 3:18 you are the same person.
Did it really take you 11 minutes after your "yawn" to come up with your most recent "gem?"
I'd be surprised if MFC didn't beat Gottschee in the NJ Cup match. But the knowledge that an upset there would result in a very unhappy clown here is appealing.
Add bitter to clueless.
No need to add bitter or clueless. Clown will suffice.
First, I come to this board for controversy and an "inside scoop" more than its sagacity
To admit this is truly pathetic.
Get a life or find a wife who cares.
This weekend should give us a glimpse at which teams will make state cup run. Lets see what Monroe, Marlboro, SJ Barons, Haddonfield, etc. still have.
Still no score for the Friday evening PDA/Yonkers match either. Does anyone know the result?
Still no score posted for the Friday evening PDA/Yonkers match.
does anyone know this result?
Holy Smoked!
HBC 6 - 0 Monroe
Would one of the Monroe supporters check back in and tell us all how everything is just fine there?
The poster who recently claimed "NJ sucks" is getting hard to argue with.
With 5 of the 8 teams in the top flight at the MAPS Challenge, the absolute fewest points NJ could collectively earn there would be semi-final points for Marlboro and nothing for the other 4.
And that's exactly what happened!
Couple this with the once mighy PDA unable to win a match against two different teams from MA yesterday and the state of NJ U13 soccer does not look very good right now.
I should correct myself. Morris Utd. also earned 300 bonus points for their win over HBC yesterday.
Still, not much of a consolation prize for the Garden State.
Regarding Monroe, getting whacked 6-0 by a team that lost to Morris Utd. the day before doesn't sound very good either offensively OR defensively.
Ironbound and the Stallions to square off in the final in Newark. The winner moves up past SJEB to #12 in the state.
Congrats to Ironbound!
Not good folks!
Gallacticos losing their top mid?
Marlboro 4-0 loss in semis? Maybe they will be the underdog against Ironbound in NJ Cup? Where is Gunner/Galactico mid going?
Monroe stunk this weekend. HBC played with Monroe. They should merge with Marlboro.
Agreed, Monroe was weak at all spots of the field. What happened to them? Haddenfield isn't as good as hyped.
I know PDA won against Yonkers... I think by 3 goals
"I know PDA won against Yonkers... I think by 3 goals "
Thanks for the score.
So how good are these teams from MA if PDA can't beat them?
"I know PDA won against Yonkers... I think by 3 goals "
Thanks for the score.
So how good are these teams from MA if PDA can't beat them?
Please lease Toms out of any discussion here. We would rather just play soccer.
Please decode message above. You have a problem with Tom?? haha Also in Tuckahoe and yes it was cold. I'm still cold.
If you ca not put a sentence together maybe just read and not post??? Just a thought.
I made a mess of this last weekend, but here's my take on gotsoccer points from the weekend for NJ U13 Boys.
GOTTSCHEE / 2754 / (2454 for March Into finalist, 300 for beating Mon U. Potential for 5508 with win in pending final)
MARLBORO / 1515 / (MAPS top flight semi-finalist)
MT. OLIVE / 600 / (300 each for beating Pleasant Valley and Toms River)
IRONBOUND / 550 / (Ironbound top flight champion)
MORRIS UNITED / 300 / (for beating HBC)
STALLIONS 99/00 / 283 / (Ironbound top flight finalist)
CHERRY HILL / 212 / (MAPS 3rd flight champion)
EB GLADIATORS / 207 / (MAPS 4th flight champion)
PASCO FIRE / 183 / (Ironbound 2nd flight champion)
NEW EGYPT / 115 / (MAPS 4th flight finalist)
DELRAN / 85 / (MAPS 3rd flight finalist)
FC NEW JERSEY 99/00 / 72 / (Ironbound 2nd flight finalist)
I cannot believe people are commenting on here so negatively. How could one assess after the weather this weekend in NJ??? You are all obviously un educated people. Post POSITIVES...YOu are NOT the one playing . Not to mention did you ever think that a young boy might go on here and read the negative posts. BULLY
Let me guess, you thought Marlboro played great but the wind bothered their game. How about connecting on a pass, just one time please.
Not a good time for NJ U13 Boys.
Did you see Marlboro this weekend. They do have some big kids but some of them couldnt trap or dribble a ball. No skill at all.
And in case you're wondering what I'd have done with the same group of teams at the PDA tourney...
I'd have put Rooney, PDA South and FC Copa in one group and have Rooney play with 8.
Then I'd let Mt. Olive, Jinky and FC Force (who are all ranked reasonably close) fight it out for the 1200 or so 2nd place points in the other group.
So why are there not other teams at pda?
Ok so we can not talk about any NJ teams on here because they are all terrible. In fact U13 is a waste of time because every good player in the state is going to the Red Bulls.
So with that out, we have NCAA, spring training baseball and the NFL draft??
or we can ignore the haters and talk about whatever we want?
"So why are there not other teams at pda?"
MARLBORO / 1515
IRONBOUND / 550
MORRIS UNITED / 300
STALLIONS 99 / 283
EB GLADIATORS / 207
PASCO FIRE / 183
NEW EGYPT / 115
FC NEW JERSEY 99 / 72
Here are a pair I missed by just a couple of points:
CHERRY HILL / 212
DELRAN / 85
I shorted Mt. Olive by 667 as I forgot to give them finalist points for finishing 2nd in a group of 5. So they totaled 1267 as opposed to 600.
The Gottshcee award looks to be a bit of a mess. While it would seem the finalist points I'd calculated for them were correct (and effectively in the bank), gotsoccer has instead awarded semi-finalist points to both them and the other finalist (Lower Merion). So it looks like this is simply and error that will eventually be corrected or changed assuming they play the final at some future point.
One more thought on the Gottschee award.
I took another look and it turns out I was just a bit off on the flight value for this one as it turned out to be a bit higher than I thought.
So the finalist points they should have already earned would push their state total up to 4523 and nudge them past Stallions 99/00 into 13th in the state.
Man, I'm a bit slow this morning!
Another correction on the Gottschee award:
Finalist points for them would push their state total up to 5306 (as opposed to the 4523 I just posted) and slot them in between Morris Utd. and Ironbound at #12.
Sorry for being a dummy!
10:08 I don't think the pda teams are playing FREE at their own tournament. pda has guaranteed teams
(their own)paying the entrance fee.
pda making money off of pda teams.
Just another extra or hidden fee on top of the already outrageous palyer fee.
"10:08 I don't think the pda teams are playing FREE at their own tournament. pda has guaranteed teams
(their own)paying the entrance fee."
How about the fact that no one cares about the PDA tournament from a boys perspective.
"Agreed, Monroe was weak at all spots of the field. What happened to them?"
They lost there coach of the last 4 years. He moved to Canada if rumors are true. Not sure if players left to other teams once he left.....
And what happened to the Monroe "Barcelona" team? They seem to have dropped out of sight completely.
Could it be that they have now merged with the Heat?
Can anyone from Monroe give us the straight scoop?
I really enjoyed watching the Heat play in the past. Too bad if there have been big changes there.
Barcelona was simply a good summer select team independent of the Heat.
Barcelona is a U12 team, played upin the summer and had good results. Glad the truth does not stand in the way of all your funny stories.
Kind of like a flash soccer mob. Came out of no where, won some games and then gone...
"Kind of like a flash soccer mob."
LOL!
Doesn't matter, they are U12 and in 2 years they will all play for the Red Bulls. At least that's what I heard?
The Coach ended up at Whitecaps.cant really blame him for building his resume.
After all they did play a great style of ball irrespective of whether they won every game therefore the players that he worked with must have been given some damn good training.
Really intelligent people on here posting about a teams one or 2 games they lost. What is the matter with you people? I happen to work with someone whose child got a full ride Division 1 school who played on a regular Club team. Go Figure!!!!
Oh yah?
Well I post on a stupid message board where there's another poster who works with a guy whose child got a full ride Division 1 school!
So there knucklehead!
The ranks above are the current Region 1 ranks.
That is kind of like wanting your young star pitcher to play for the Mets WITHOUT the big contract.
...or make that the Jets. You choose.
The wrungs on the ladder you believe you have climbed will hurt on the way down.
...or make it Liverpool.
What do the fields at Delco look like? Can't compare to Tuckahoe I'm sure but how good or bad are they?
"I saw Monroe about 3 or 4 times last spring..."
Delco Good. Tuckahoe Great.
"Delco Good. Tuckahoe Great."
Tuckahoe gets raves from just about eveybody here (the one thing we all agree on?) and they are well-deerserved.
But be sure you get on the porta potty line right after you enjoy one of those cheese steaks from the truck!
(Just kidding, the cheese steaks are pretty good too.)
Where does Gottschee play out of? What town?
"I saw Monroe. Never said there was NO talent. Good team. Conversation turned on a coach and a couple amazing players that left the team w/o talent."
Sorry if I'm being the dummy here, but I'm struggling to understand you.
"Was there anyone last year on Monroe worth talking about? I didn't see them."
Wasn't this yours? No players "worth talking about?"
If so, what does "...a couple amazing players that left..." mean? Were they "amazing" and yet not worth talking about?
Maybe the first post wasn't yours though. And if not, please forgive me.
Delco and MAPS are both great. So teams will probably go to the closest one. NJ and NYE to MAPS. PAE and MD to Delco.
A lot more teams at Delco (as usual). But the top flights at both will be good ones.
AMAZING kids from Monroe? You have got to be kidding. Enough already. Wonder what lucky teams scooped them up.
I think Gottschee plays at fdu in teaneck. And i think gunners practice there too.
I really like your blog thanks for sharing! strategic advisory firm
BOOT IT Annie!
Good luck to new jersey and penn kids going to play in Barcelona next week.
Sounds very cool! Who are the players going?
1st state cup match on the books. Mt Laurel 3-0. Any results on the TSF match?
Still no score posted for the TSF/RYSA NJ Cup match. I can't imagine that TSF didn't win though.
Regardless, credit to the coaches and players from RYSA for entering into the real state championship instead of opting for the B flight.
Hope this is a rumor..

"Hope this is a rumor.."
Well, you can say that again! (Oh, nevermind as you already did).
This one sounds even more improbable than the Gunners/PDA runor that surfaced here a while back. So I'm wondering if it's coming from the same "reliable" source.

"Galacticos to PDA? …I say PDA merger is likely."
Yeah, seems like the source is probably the same. Fantasy I'd say.
And aside from the fantasy, the need to keep identifying players by their ethnicity is disappointing as well.
"Get ready to see two teams roll up their sleeves and go at each other today."
You got this one half right.
MFC all over Gotschee. 4-0 and it wasn't that close.
Look out EB!
Gottschee was soft. MFC included '99 academy players not just '00 team as advertised. Either way, they schooled Gottschee on how to play with intensity from the first whistle to the last and that has nothing to do with age. I couldn't agree with the last comment more. Look out to anyone in their way!
