Really? Name a top team in Ocean county?
"and surrounding area"I never said there was a top team in OC. So quick to judge. OP never said they were looking for a top team. For whatever you think it is worth, I counted 6-8 U15 teams on the GS top 20 with a 45-60 minute drive depending on where you are in OC.
How much is MF? They don't seem terribly organized. Their website last year said they would have tryouts at different locations and that didn't happen. I don't want to drop a huge chunk of change (and it sounds like it has to be up front) only to have the "information" change .... again.
ECNL is set up to take ALL the money up front. A good technique to keep players(or parents)from jumping with a history. You want to play, then pay ALL up front and just relax for a year.
10:35 ... ?keep players from jumping with a history ?do you mean keep players with a history of jumping from switching teams mid-season ?Whatever the reason they take the money up-front - economics or team stability, its all fine and well as long as they deliver what they promise. But from everything I heard out there, MF does not. This is a chicken-egg type of thing ... what came first, the dissatisfied player/parent who wants to jump mid-season, or the soccer organization full of jerks who create situations where people want to jump ship mid-season.
Additional MF problems I observe: problem parent from another team that joined, is constantly "in the coaches ear" hovering behind the bench at scrimmages and standing along the team side of the fence line at practice. It needs to stop. Your little precious is just NOT that good. or do you realize it and that's why you feel you must constantly be talking to the coach?Let the coach coach. You're just a parent now, just like everyone else.
Steve, you know better, now move along.
8:03: lolI think it's the OTHER team, though. There is certainly more than ONE problem parent associated with this age group.
The MF teams got themselves bumped up to higher brackets in NEWSS next weekend.Look for better results from the NPL team,I think these ECNL parents are in for a rude awakening. I will be the first to come back here and say I was wrong if warranted, but I can't see them coming away from NEWSS with more than 2 ties and a 3rd or 4th place finish in their group. MF should have been content to keep them flighted where they were originally, 1-2 flights down. Have the girls play, have some success and build some confidence. Their eventual success would then warrant playing at higher levels.Time will tell, but I don't see this team being any greater than the sum of its parts, meaning MF will not be adding any value for all the money paid in.
regarding the inquiry about ocean county teams, if u are willing to drive up to monmouth, olsa/wildcats has a new team, supposed to have some really nice players. The club owner has personally taken this team under his wing, probably due to the promise he sees. I haven't seen them accomplish much yet, so you won't see them ranked anywhere, but that is most probably because of how new they are, and high school ball.
No horse in this race but wonderingWhy would NEWSS put Crush in top bracket instead of Copa? When Copa at this time is #1Going by past body of work ?O'Reilly/YMS same bracket who will win head to head and who advances
OLSA club owner will drive you away too. Check the background story before you move there.
agree, COPA wants to be #1/#1/#1 and parents brag about it, put them in the top bracket and see how they do. we know they have never beaten PDA and YMS which is why they are flighted 2nd. nothing wrong about bragging as long as you keep it in perspective.putting PDA and YMS in same bracket is just wrong. let's knock out one of the best teams in the region to keep lesser teams. doesn't make sense.beachside top flight? unless they have seriously improved they don't belong there. COPA is a better team. as far as any "hovering parents", the coach needs to send them away. my kid would be telling me to go away. she is 15. the last thing she wants is mommy or daddy hanging round. time to step back daddy. both MF teams are practically brand new teams. we'll see.
Where does anyone see or hear about copa parents bragging? I haven't seen it on this blog. If the parents are going around with big #1 foam fingers at tournaments I haven't seen it and I have seen them at some tournament over the last year. Maybe they were not number 1 yet. Looks like PDA can't duck Yms this time.
I have to agree with 5:11pm.. on the PDA and YMS in the same bracket.. That's a final type game not a bracket type game.. They both are quality teams/programs but I guess Newss wanted Canada to make the final since they traveled.
sometimes even great teams are drawn into the group of death. don't be so sure PDA won't pull some strings before the tournament to have the teams separated. That is their MO, is it not ?
MO or not, in this case they would be right.
Just play and stop the whinning. Does it really matter who you play in top brackets? Being there speaks volumes. There are four teams that could win it. Simple, Win and advance.
Does anyone know how they factor in flight point value if one of the teams is either a new team with 0 points or a foreign team?
Zero is Zero
For all your angst about NEWSS, it's NOT a good tournament. Period! Put it in perspective and use it as a warm up tool for the real tournaments/season to come. If you're lucky at this age, a few college coaches might show up, but it's a showcase tournament and they never really look at freshmen anyway. (might show up for PDA/YMS matchup but other than that, consider it a scrimmage at best for the rest of the teams).
Earn a team history. New teams that do not have 51% from another team with history/points get ZERO.Canadian teams have a history. So one team YMS/O'R goes home with only semi-finalist points if that. Absolutely fair. Why the stress for points? To get in the top flights at Showcases at u-17 when it really matters. Top two or even a third player on a top team will start to get recruited at u-15/u-16 but most coaches really do not have the time/money on propects that anything can happen (including the coach) avg coach stay is 4 years? wow. D1 rules prohibit D1 coaches from contact untill after 10th grade. Get and read the NCAA rules. Those form letters in the mail are worthless. Nice brochure though. The flood of recruting starts at u-17. Remember, official binding signings come in Feb of Senior year. Everything up to that point is promises, and we saw from the Pres what promises mean.
malarky !!!!and PDA does want to build back their points - trust me on that.9:25 - the only things I can say to you about promises is "READ MY LIPS" and WMDs found in IRAQ.
What I'd like to know is who is this MF Academy North Black team, who took all the points front the former Thunder team? Not ONE OF THOSE PLAYERS was a MF player and now they are ranked above the NPL team? What is this nonsense? The Thunder won the MF tournament and the Thunder was the US Club State Cup finalist last season. Where did these players come from and how can they take the points WHEN NOT ONE OF THE PLAYERS was even on MF???
Re: Zero is ZeroThis cannot be the case for a 4 team, 3 game round robin showcase. Winner gets 75% of the flight value.Anyone have knowledge of how this works? Just curious.
3:55 - It just goes to show how unscrupulous an organization MF is and also how little the points mean in GOT Soccer. How desperate an organization MF must be to pull this one.
not really sure what you are pissing and moaning about?MF ECNL team is entered in NEWSS, not the former thunder now listed as Black. they have no games or points. as Blacks points expire it will drop just like NJX and every other team.they get top flights just because they are now ECNL. might not be right but that is how it goes.MF surge is NE NPL, guessing they retained enough players to retain points.
4:41Points of clarification: MF ECNL is NOT the Black team. The Black Team is some random team that is now MF, NOT incorporating ANY players from either the former Thunder or Surge. Who now somehow inherited the Thunder points. The majority of the former Surge team is the NPL team along with some Thunder players, NJX players and some others. The ECNL team is mostly former Surge players along with some Thunder players and others and for some reason is not listed on GotSoccer at all even with 0 points.
8:55 can you read? I said...- MF ECNL team is entered in NEWSS, not the former thunder now listed as Black- MF surge is NE NPL, guessing they retained enough players to retain points.if you want to correct what I said, please wait until it is wrong?unless something has changed, these are the only 2 U15 MF teams. as far as Black being "some random team that is now with MF". Watch it disappear as the points expire. there is no team in that spot. which is it...?"The majority of the former Surge team is the NPL team" or"The ECNL team is mostly former Surge players"Surge must have had a HUGE roster to now have a majority of players on two teams??
10:53 There are 3 u15 MF teams. NPL, ECNL, and Black. Black appears to be a majority of Roxbury... which is infact a MF affilitate. Not sure if that works into how they are using Thunder points. Perhaps it is an error from Got Soccer that will be corrected.
MF really cares about MF! You parents will just talk about each other, behind everyones backs. Quite humorous to listen too.
re: OLSA club owner driving you away and checking background story ... can you expound on this ? I don't know anyone who is there or who has ever been. where would I find this background story ?
Whoever Match Fit Black is, they won't be keeping their number9 ranking in NJ for much longer. They just lost both of their games at the Maps cup today.
MF Black lost 5-0 & 4-0 at EDP Cup today. I'm guessing like the Surge parents stated last year, they need time to gel.
Wow, that is pretty unfair. Comparing rosters, take 5 girls from a team ranked #33 onto a new team and throw them up against Crush.
Matchfits own fault for transferring points from an ok team like thunder to a brand new team and essentially "ranking" them higher and placing themselves against competition that is just too strong for them. Still Matchfit is all about development right? They did it to themselves...
Have 2 girls in club no problems with owner / coaches. Check out website to see former players who are playing in college and those committed. Having our daughter with the club gave her the opportunity to play in college.
Last post was about OLSA Wildcat owner coach. No problems for us .
Hope MF Ecnl team doing okay this weekend at NEWSS. Look like will be tough weekend ahead.
November 24, 2013 at 11:58 AM do you have a freshman at D1 and soph in HS?
I've never gotten a good vibe from that guy. I've heard some of the same - he does post a good track record, but then again, maybe had these kids gone elsewhere, they would have excelled even more.what do we know about hist new team at this age ? Seems like they got a few points from some low level tournament, but have they played anyone of any substance ?
so he's pretty much like every other person in youth soccer who is running a business?
It will always keep coming back to the same thing in my book....we have our youth soccer system all wrong. And there good and bad people within the warped system. Still that does not explain someone who is a jack wad.
You have obviously had some personal issues with the coach. The majority of the parents are pleased with the club. As for the players going further if not with the club.... How much further they are playing in college ? Not just making a team, in college, but playing in college games. You and your child have to be in a club that will work to get him/her them to their potential. The club was not for you and your child and that is ok. I wish you the best..
So do we want to take bets that NEWSS does the same thing that many tournaments did last weekend?
What did tournaments do last weekend?
So what happened to JU this weekend? Played 3, lost 3? Were all the starters at a college ID camp again?
To the coaches that forfeited or agreeded to not play their scheduled games on that ridiculously cold & dangerous Sunday of the EDP Cup, you have earned my respect & admiration. You put your players well-being & safety ahead of potential wins & GS points. Its a shame that the other greedy and uncaring coaches didn't follow your example. Kudos to you!
cold yes, dangerous no. Play the games.
you sign up for tournaments in June-July-August, it is going to be hot.you sign up for tournaments in Dec-Jan-Feb-March, it is going to be cold. play the games.
28-30 degrees not including the wind chill from gusts of 30-45 mph winds that bring the real feel to 15 degrees is not your normal cold. It is dangerous for athletes that have asthma and other conditions affected by severe cold. Bodies react differently in extreme cold, one example is reaction time is slower. The chance for injury is greatly increased. So, how cold would be too cold to not play? And how hot?
What team is Thunder? All Matchfit teams are over-rated. ECNL coach walked around last year like he was putting together the National team and I saw them play at News and nothing to brag about. Caught Dynamite on down day and only goal came on free kick.
That's soccer a free kick or a blast from 30 out still have to get it in. Teams have good games and bad games just the way it goes and don't have a kid on either MF or Dmite. By this age we have all watched enough soccer to realize it is whoever is on that game/day
How good is the FC Copa team? I saw they were #1 in NJ? Are they better than WC, PDA and Math Fit at this age?
They are a good team. I would say in the top 5 of NJ.PDA O'Reilly is and has been best team in NJWC plays a good game but they are not as strong as some teams.MF ECNL is a good NEW team that could say are top 5 as well in NJ
Any thoughts on top 10 teams in NJ?
Here are my top 10, ordered by their GS ranking, which is not necessarily my ranking. Historically, no one has come close to O'Reilly, but I am inclined to think that maybe a couple of these teams are closing the gap - one of them a brand new team.FC COPA ACADEMY CELESTEPDA O'REILLYNEW JERSEY RUSH 98 GIRLS NPLMORRIS UNITED STA 98/99G NPLNJ CRUSH FC CHARGEMATCH FIT ACADEMY FC ECNL U15NJSA 04 STING NPLPDA BLUESSOUTH JERSEY ELITE BARONS '98 PHOENIXNJ STALLIONS ACADEMY BEC CELTICSAdding some other decent teams to round up to 15Mt. LaurelTSFPDA ImpactPrinceton SAJersey UnitedLastly, if you go over into PA, there are some teams that are very close to NJ that would crack the top 10.
I almost entirely agree with your top 10 besides the new PDA and BEC. BEC lost a lot of players over the Summer, hard to replace a lot of starters. As for PDA I can only comment on what I saw this past weekend but they only had 1 player who will score all their goals. I wasn't impressed by the overall standard, an ok starting team but the bench was fairly weak. Let's see what the Rutgers coach can do with the team over the Winter.
8:42. What has Princeton shown you for you to place them in the top 15. And why did you leave out the RAGE.
O'R not at CASL this weekend. YMS want it rematch....
BEC and new MF both at CASL this weekend. Lets see who does better and how much those BEC starters are missed. They might have the buyers remorse that many MF parents have.
8:42 - Surprising that you left out JU. PDA Blue listed, but not PDA Impact. Why?
8:42 here.Guys and gals. This is not an exact science. I was just trying to opine on a question.Princeton ... yeah .. you are right .. they really haven't done much, which is why they are not in the top 10.Jersey United had put up a lot of points last year, but fallen off recently. Its getting to be around the time when better soccer starts beating better athletes. I think they need a better system. And I think recently their tournament results have not been good at all.Rage - they could probably be in the top 15, but since I wasn't counting to 16, someone had to drop, and I picked them.As far as the Blues vs. Impact ... I think Blues won something fairly recently. Maybe they need some more success to be in top 10, but does the Impact belong there instead of them ? Not so sure.
BEC and MF ecnl on the 3rd bracket. BEC took 1st place.
No they didn't. Round Robin Showcase style. They weren't in the same group. Go look at the head to head. MF much tougher matches.
What about Copa 1st on the top group. Do they win the bracket on goal diff?
No... they won fair and square. I don't like their TOURNAMENT AFTER TOURNAMENT RACK UP THE POINTS tactics but I have to give them this one. Two out of three of the teams they faced were tough competition. Brackets were really mixed and random. MF had two tough teams in their bracket also.. BEC had none. Who knows how they do it... confusing. What's up with RUSH? They are really struggling.
when you talk about tournament after tournament of racking up points, this is usually done by a team playing in lesser tournaments and in lower flights. In COPA's case, it seems that they have been doing quite well in some good tournaments in the higher or top brackets.
I would say PDA Impact in top 10 over PDA Blues no doubt. They are a very good team and play tough teams and have won.PDA RANKINGS:O'ReillyImpactBluesI don't think you would get an argument from many in PDA on that.JU also top 10 over SJ Elite and BECO'Reilly, MF ECNL,Crush I would say top 3, after that it could be any of the rest of those teams that could beat each other on any given day for the most part
Crush top 5 for sure.MF ECNL - you are a little premature. A good tournament win in NEWSS followed by a mediocre showing in CASL.Let the girls gel and get some games under their belt before you start touting them. When all is said and done, they will be a top team - but you are getting way ahead of yourself.
I mean MF ECNL top team in NJCASL they are playing other statesYes, I agree give them time and they can be a top team in Region as well
YMS ? good showing in NEWS tying O'R and Crush. Very good display at casl.
YMS was at CASL..who did they playI can't seem to come across them at CASL
Maybe because they didn't play in the showcase, but in National League.http://tournaments.usyouthsoccer.org/events/2013-2014-National-League/Schedule/U15-Girls/Division+1/
How does YMS think a tie is good. PDA doesn't.
I don't think YMS said a tie was good. I am guessing its someone comparing YMS results to their own and calling it good. I watched the YMS vs PDA game and trust me it shouldn't of been a tie.
YMS should have easily had two goals in 1st half. Had maybe 5-6 corner kicks in second but no real shots other then corners.PDA O'R had a great opp in second but O'R player slipped inside the 18 and did not get a strong touch. So, could have been 2-0 YMS or even 1-0 PDA. But just another tie. would like to see top matches at 90 min. Now that is something we can agreed on??

AAU for soccer? never heard of it?
Middle of February starts the new season now! EDL posted schedule - kicks off Feb 15th.
Where do you see the EDL schedule? Got a link?
Not exactly stellar clubs in EDL is there?
Matchfit black u15 ,and matchfit Berkeley u14 - who is coaching theses teams. Also matchfit npl u15 lost to njsa sting 4-1 in a scrimmage and matchfit u15 ecnl tied the sting 1-1 but the sting dominated.
I think you know where to find the coaches' names of those teams. scrimmages? really? i think you need to find something better to do with your time.
8:54 Obviously a Sting parent. I'm sure I know which one too. The loudmouth with the "superstar". LOL!
10:08 sounds like a former Sting parent or manager. MF ECNL will sink into mediocrity and NPL is there already.
LOL, and NJSA will be called a good passing team that can't get the ball in the net and out of their bracket in tournaments....just like every year for the past 5 years. new kids, same story you just haven't been around enough yet to see it.why don't we just wait and see? fall season way to short to predict anything.
Following some of this MF ECNL action the past few weeks. On paper, they look like they are a good team, what with blowing out their opponents in most games. However, the fact that they are blowing out their opponents just says that their competition is extremely weak. Not really a step up going to ECNL then, is it? Might as well play rec teams to get the same results. ECNL not all its cracked up to be.
I've been following it as well. I believe that the ECNL is like any other league... you have some good teams and some bad teams. You cannot deny though that the BEST teams are in the ECNL. That's not saying that there are not top non ECNL teams too. MF tied their last game. And PDA had two 1 goal wins. Seems like they had some nice competition this weekend. That's a good thing. ECNL teams meet non-ECNL teams in tournaments. It's not like ECNL is totally inclusive like some people believe. It's not entirely the case.
I don't think that's true, the comment about tournament play. It appears that all the tournaments they attend are ECNL ones or at least they are placed in the ENCL bracket to only compete with ECNL teams. If that is the case, they will face the same weak teams over and over and beat them, not providing them any competition and making them look like rockstars, when in fact, that may not be the case, if they played non ECNL teams that are better.
Both NJ teams just attended NEWSS and a few ECNL teams were at CASL. No ECNL brackets. Hopefully we will see more of that in the future.
Disney results for NJ - FC Copa has lost 3 games, JU has lost one and tied 2, and NJ crush won 2 and tied 1.
You might want to clarify that Copa was in the the top flight, Crush in the 5th and JU in the bottom.
I have no skin in the game here, but technically YMS was in the top flight. Copa was not. JU was not in the bottom flight. That bracket is for ASL which is done in order to complete league games. And clearly, Crush is superior to Copa so obviously something does not make sense with the way it is listed on the website.
10:55am-False. The top group is Copas, that is why that bracket is at the top. Did it have the best teams in it? Maybe not. But Disney listed it as the top bracket.JU might have been in an ASL flight but they've played 6 tournament games (Disney and NEWSS) and not won a single game. Losing 4 and tieing 2. So much for the new look JU.
YMS vs Copa. Who wins 10 of 10? Crush beats Copa 9 out of 10 as well. JU should be fine once everyone is back and the new players are fully integrated. Copa should be good and like JU will need to allow time for new players to gel.
Are Copa and JU missing players due to injuries?
Yms probably a notch or two better than copa but for whatever reason..probably Gs points.. Copa was flighted above Yms. Copa did not have a good showing. Copa is far better than ju, and possibly on par or slightly better than crush.
JU has beaten Copa the last few times they met. Most recently at US Club. The score was 4 or 5 to 1. STA is better than Copa too as is PDAs new team.
the score of the regional JU-Copa game was 3-1. In their previous meeting in the fall, Copa won 3-1.Today, 4 times out of 5, Copa beats JU. But no sense debating this - these two teams should be playing each other in the spring. You cannot take a team too far when you only rely on speed, strenth, the long ball and Rt. 1 soccer. STA shows much more savvy and sophistication in their play than JU. Copa's ranking is misleading as they are surely not the top team in the country. They cannot even claim top in state. They are a top 5 team in the state. Perhaps a top 3 team. I estimate them to be a top 10 in region and a top 25 in the country. As for the new PDA team, let's see how they fare in the spring. And there are other teams that deserve to be part of this discussion - PDA of course, is still probably above the rest. Then there is Crush, Nike Rush, Match Fit. NJSA and BEC possibly. And then, will we hear anything from the new Wildcats offering ? They have entered themselves in a couple very low-end tournaments coming away with results against what appear to be some very unimpressive competition. But maybe this is a wise approach. Let these girls gel before pitting them against any quality competition.
Copa has good players but some of them would be better served playing for a different club
10:44 - are you speaking about any different club in particular ?I gather you are a Copa parent with a daughter who you think is having some playing time taken away by so-called lesser players, possibly because of the size of the roster. Or your daughter gets plenty of time, but you don't want any of the weaker players to set foot on the field, as it compromises the team play. Or is it that the player is so good that her potential is being hampered at Copa ? It's a very interesting comment coming a) on the heals of a not so good showing in FL and b) the success Copa has had over the last 8 months. These things have a way of working themselves out each year. Weaker players either leave or are cut, if better players show up at tryouts. Considering Copa's success this year, I would expect a lot of interest at tryouts, so the team could improve this way.A team can be strengthened by development or it can be strengthened by attrition or by acquisition or any combination thereof. I would expect Copa to likely get stronger due to at least 2 out of these 3 over the course of the next few months. But I don't think roster size will go down. It is more profitable for a club with more players, assuming they charge the same amount as the numbers grow. It also promotes something we like to consider healthy competition for playing time.
I have heard that other clubs have approached a few Copa players about going to ECNL teams. Just sating that they may be better served in doing this move. Spring will tell if they are leaving
I'm sure Mr. MF ECNL has his "feelers" out for the better players. Probably why he took a smaller roster to begin with so he could add. Tough luck for those "super players" who made it on the original team because of mommy's or daddy's connections. I'm sure their time is waning.
Mr. MF ecnl ? Who? I let u all in on a little secret ... While mf is far from honorable and trustworthy as an organization that deals with kids, I don't think that there are very many academy level youth coaches who are not trying to improve their team by taking on new players. Everyone's feelers are out.
So not the point, 7:49.
Hello 752, If something written is not the point, why not make your keystrokes matter and tell us all what is the point you are trying to make, other than you having some axe to grind with someone you are referring to as MR MF ECNL. What is the point outside of MF doing what most other coaches do - look to improve their teams in any way they can including cuts and recruits ?Also, most times that people out here use "mommys" and "daddys" in their blogs, they are usually coming from some place with bitterness and/or sarcasm. Sarcasm itself, does not always translate well into blogs, so if and when you want to blog and be understood or even be humourous, try to make sure people know where you are coming from.
You can't build a national level team at U15. There is no chemistry between the players since they have not been together long. The real quality teams have roster changes but not mass changes. MF is living proof of cattle call tryouts and team migration with no great results. Don't be fooled into the trap.
1:59 I'm not sure how much clearer I could have made it, but since you couldn't seem to understand my original post, here's the decoder for you:Mr. ECNL= the coachmommys and daddys = the parents that sucked up to get their kids a spot on that roster.MY POINT was that yes, of course, all coaches are looking for the best players to improve their teams. He is obviously looking as well. He started with a smaller roster that can increase to 30. That then puts the mommys and daddys who sucked up to get their kids on that team, a little nervous for their kid's playing time and possibly their future roster spot.Thought it was pretty clear from the beginning but here it is spelled out for you.
After your decoder ring, the understanding I have remains the same as the first post. And my comment remains. Your (so not the point) point is that the Mr.ECNL MF coach brought on what players he could at the time, accepting some that were below what he would have preferred, and in his mind, once he could get access to better players, he would take them on, and the bottom players (those belonging to the schmoozing mommys and daddys you refer to) would eventually be on the outs or get less playing time. Is there another point here ?I stated that most academy type coaches will do the same thing - there is not loyalty here ... the one exception is that some will not accept the lobbying parents.Your spelling it out gave no more insight than I already had. My point (your so not the point) remains very pointy.Good post 1017.
8:18 Obviously you are not privy to the MF politics (or maybe you are? who cares) I think it's more a matter of players getting their roster spot based on those "political" (read Kiss A$$) connections. nothing pointy there. pretty clear. done. tired of this topic let's move on.
917. Your point has not changed from the beginning. I got it then. I get it now. My initial comment was on point and quite salient. While I am not privy to MF inside politics, I've seen like situations and heard enough about MF, seen enough entitled parents, lobbying parents, coaches who will allow it and angry/disillusioned/bitter parents whose kids find themselves on the outside to understand the matter. It's ok with me if you'd like to move on at this point.
NY forum talking about tournament flights with got soccer and gaming their point system-"got soccer points:Yep, if you are not playing for a nationally relevant program these points will get you into better tournaments and better flights. What our team did at this age group was to play 2-3 tournaments in NJ before major tournaments to "run up" our point total. Very mediocre team in NJ have mega points for the reasons listed above and it would be easy to go down there (Fort Dix if my memory is correct) and win.Basically, if you want a top 100 ranking in Got soccer all your coach has to do is play at Ft Dix(??) 8-12 times a year. It's that easy"
seen it alot. there are teams all around that win their local tournaments and build points. Then they either don't go to the more quality tournaments or go and don't fair too well.Remember one thing: In order to get points at these lower tournaments, you either have to play a whole bunch of them, or the teams that enter them have to bring points with them.If you are playing 15 tournaments and coming away with lower point totals at each, I think that would indicator a point accumulator team. But if the brackets they play are allowing them to come away with 3-6 K points (after their own deductions) then that would indicate the team is going against some signficant competition, even though it might be more local. The points in the bracket have to come from somewhere. But you do need to look at the points a team has, but also how they got those points / who they played to get them.
A simple equation could be very telling .... Number of points divided by the number of tournaments entered over the last year. Points per tourney entered. I would be surprised if oreilly did not come out on top with at least twice the average of any other team. While not perfect this will give a much better impression of results considering quality of competition, and it will discount accumulator/compiler teams .... The don suttons of youth soccer...lol.... In other words a player who hits career milestones like 300 wins or 500 hrs without ever being one of thhe top players of his era. In this case, number of tourneys per year would be akin to number of years played.
I am purposely excluding MF from this list. After 2 tournaments, it is not enuf of a sample. In the end, they could very well top o'reilly. This list tells you how many points per tournament/competition registered by GS. It does include league play. o'reilly is a whole different animal here though. The points they earn, for the most part, are not captured against the same pool of teams as the others. There is some overlap, but I think the least amount with OR.oreilly 4171rush 2107copa 2007sting 1822morris 1815charge 1730rage 1626mf nrt 1315impact 1306ju 956
Interesting proposal above. The points with league play has taken it to a level too. What about eliminating the league points?
need league points, or what is the purpose of playing league play instead of a zillion tourneys.Got Soccer far from perfect, but gives a good idea on whom is competitive and top contender. Even though some teams/clubs do go after GS points, they are actually playing games and are getting better and getting exposure. Basically, the top three/four teams are set, and rest are jockying to be top of second tier. The YMS's and OR's could care less about GS points, but the others need it to be in the conversation. It works.
I have to disagree with the league play, especially EDP. The last place team earned 1500 points and didn't win one game.
Teams have to play in a league to be eligible for State Cup
Got Soccer points certainly factored in with today's posted Jefferson Cup acceptances.
Completely disagree 7:33pm. Look at BEC in the 3rd bracket. They haven't placed in a tournament in over 1 year and are currently 19th in NJ. SJ Elite also accepted despite being 16th in NJ. And somehow PDA Blues were accepted! Not sure what the Jeff Cup organizers were thinking but it looks like a shambles to me.

I am considering a change of team for my daughter. The options include a u15 team and a u16 team. Assuming all things being equal such as quality of training, quality of competition, comparable talent and level of play, both teams showcasing at same or comparable tournaments and comparable playing time, and assuming my daughter would stand up well to the challenges at both ages, is one option clearly better than the other when you consider that the u16 team would be breaking up a year earlier ? Also, my daughter is grade appropriate at u15 now. Wonder if moving her up a year puts her at a disadvantage in terms of exposure in the college recruitment process. The question here is really only focused on advantages and disadvantages in visibility and recruitment. As far as the soccer experience itself, I have that covered.I would appreciate any and all insight here.
Seems like you have all the answers, I would suggest going with what you seem to already think. Stay U15, too many negatives playing U16 as you have pointed out.
Let her play up. She may get more exposure having coaches look at her earlier. If they are interested in her playing U16, you can have the conversation about her actual graduation date.
Why would The RAGE Magic be in a lower bracket (Jeff Cup) than teams that are ranked lower than them on GS? MF ECNL, PDA Impact, & BEC Celtics are all ranked lower. RAGE has been in the top 6 on GS for quite a while now, you would figure they would be placed in the top brackets, not the 4th. It really makes you wonder how & why they placed teams where they do.
How is a new team like PDA Blues in a bracket higher than Jersey United ?
You can also ask Jeff Cup why TSF got accepted today in an open spot as well as BEC, SJ Elite, PDA Blues based on their recent abysmal records? There are teams ranked higher than a lot of them who weren't even accepted. PWSI, ISA, STA, Merrick, Tampa Bay Utd etc. Blind leading the blind at that tournament meeting.
Unless something change with PWSI. They were a good team better than a lot that have been accepted.
PWSI was one of the top teams tweeted , so they were accepted. Don't quite know why they withdrew...
Rage has never beaten a good team. Look at their record and who they have played. They got a lot of points for NJ Cup and that is it.
Rage is always requesting to be in a lower flight. The coach knows that they can't compete with teams that have similar GS points
MF NPL, 2 losses and 1 tie this weekend. That's some expensive kool-aid!
Where was this 10:23am?
Triangle Friendlies in NC.
10:23 they possibly didn't have their best players attending. Problem with MF is they ask for availability per tournament and they have to pay per tournament. Not always the top players at each event. It's more, who can make it and who wants to pay.
Triangle Friendlies is just that. Friendlies. No gotsoccer points to be had. Supposed to be a college showcase but at most of these showcases coaches do not come to watch U15 anyway. It's a tune up for spring season.
Give me a break about what team deserves to be ranked higher then another for tournament play. Theres been a ton of movement this year and many new teams were formed. How about we give these new teams a year to prove themselves before we pass judgement. By the end of U16 it will all be settled. The only agreeable point is that O'Reilly is the superior team in this age group.
Why is OReilly not in the ECNL division?
They want to play the best-kudos to them.Happens all the time. look at u-16 at Jeff Cup. Same thing. The top ecnl teams playing against the top non-ecnl teams. Most leagues have two or three very good teams and are tried of beating up on the others in their league.
Does anyone here on the blog have experience with ODP and EDP TIP, ETC programs? If so, was it worth the $$ and is your child now a higher level player? At what age did she do the program(s). My daughter is 11yr. and I am getting approached about the programs. IMO it is premature to put her in these expensive programs at her age. She has a private trainer and she is on a very competitive league. Any info you can provide regarding these programs is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Regarding ODP: Save your money. My daughter played and said it wasn't worth it. Unless you're connected to the trainers/powers that be/etc., again, it's all political. NJ ODP is known for it's politics and is not highly regarded as others states' programs. I'm sure others will disagree but this has been our experience and that of many others.
Yes, your teenage daughter surely should have the ability to make that decision lol
Let me rephrase that: She played for a year and said it wasn't worth it. As parents, we believe the rest. Does that help? And it's not because she wasn't good enough, blah blah blah. She was good enough. She was a starter for and played in all the games. She also plays for a high level team and is a starter too. Wasn't worth the money or the time in ALL of our opinions.
The only good thing I've seen come out of ODP is the possibility to play for the Regional or National teams. This can get your daughter ranked. The only ranked girls in NJ either play for ECNL or were Regional ODP players. If that's important to you.
2:10 What you've said is true. Only the regional players/ecnl get ranked. Some girls go out year after year and make the state team but not the regional team. That's a lot of money to spend in hopes that they'll make it and then not. However, If they stick with it long enough (u16-u17) they probably will make regional team because all the girls who were making it year after year stop going since they are well known by that time and don't need to put in their ODP time any longer. That's not really a good reason for your kid to get picked for a team (because the supposed better players aren't going out for it anymore) but if you want that on their credentials, go for it.
ODP at u-14 and up can be a wonderfull and insightfull experience. Most college recruit web sites specifically ask for ODP experience. A coach once told me it was the differience between getting a 1/4 scholarshp and a 1/2for the very good player. But of course it only matters when being recruited if it is recent ODP experience. The top players on top teams really do not need it, except the chance to travel andcompete Internationally.
All part of the important soccer resume.
ODP "can be a wonderful and insightfull" (sp?) experience, for those that are politically connected. Period. End of story. It's a crock in NJ.
My daughter is not politically connected. She has been on state team for 3 years and region team for 2. She has meet a lot of good trainers and college coaches.
Good luck to her then. She must be the exception.
I love when people use "politically connected" as an excuse when their daughter doesn't make a team or get recognized. Every time someone writes it on here I laugh out loud. Talent will be seen and the cream will rise to the top. End of story!
Then 11:58 you are living in a fantasy world if you don't think youth sports are rife with political BS. Sure, some great athletes get recognized for their talents, but there are so many other great athletes who get ignored because of whatever political wheeling and dealing goes on behind (and sometimes not so behind) the scenes.
Are we talking u15 soccer or all of sports?? If girl A is tremendous and stands out.. she's getting recognized. If players B and C are on the same level but player B's parents are respected by the coach... player B's getting chosen every time. I don't call that political favoritism, I call it life. Other than that... I must be living in a fantasy land, you are right. Because I have never seen any other situation in my 15 years of being a youth soccer parent.
I am talking about soccer here, obviously, but ALL youth sports are the same in this respect. (yes, my kid has been involved in many, maybe yours hasn't?) "parents are respected by the coach"? what? It IS favoritism if both players are the same and one is chosen because of the parents (does respected= suck up in your world?) (favoritism=politics) It's the crappy part of life and doesn't belong in youth sports. If you think thats OK, then you are part of the problem with youth sports and you are living in a fantasy land.
Does the ODP favoritism extend to the Regional and National camps? In this age group there are a few girls in that ilk. And in '98's there are many 8 or 9. That is pretty impressive and to say that NJ is a joke is strange to me. Do other states have that many?
What's the story with JU placed in the last bracket at Jeff Cup? That is a significant drop from where they have been playing.

weather for the weekend. At what point does a tournament say it is too cold to play ?Sat Mar 1Few Snow Showers 36°24°Few Snow ShowersChance of snow:30%Sun Mar 2Mostly Sunny 30°23°Mostly Sunny
Sounds like the same weather in November. It's the Northeast. What do you expect?
It's not about what I expect. It's about what it will be and what would be considered reasonable weather to play soccer.Windchill below 20. Frostbite with 30 mins or less. Bundle those kids up.There is a reason why northern European counties with harsh winters take long breaks in their domestic leagues. But we need our kids to be hardcore so tournaments can make their money. You thing you are gonna find much quality soccer out there, u are mistaken. Good luck to those sitting on the bench. Parents, break out your thermals and have a great time. American youth soccer at its finest.
You are in the wrong line of sports. If you really didn't care, you wouldn't be on this site. You wouldn't even know about it. Make up your mind.
10:12 - who said I didn't care. I am blogging about it. I do care. I don't want my kids freezing. I don't want to stand out in the cold watching it. There is really nothing good that can come from playing a tournament in frigid weather except for the tournament itself bringing in money. The kids will not enjoy it. The kids will not be playing soccer in conditions that allow their best to come up. The touch on the ball is significantly diminished, both by a colder ball and by cold extremities. When you are on Randalls Island or some Manhattan field close to the water, and your dealing with 15-20 mph winds on top of 25-30 degrees, I hope you can find some enjoyment in watching your daughter play quality soccer. Randalls was bad last year. I think this year will be somewhat worse.
last year Randalls was cold. I was there.Sat/Sun last year had H/L of 41/32 and 42/29. Saturday afternoon/evening it was raining.Sat/Sun this year forecast H/L of 31/15 and 27/11. And snow. This really ought to be a lot of fun.See you there.
This tournament should be cancelled. Cold is one thing. Frostbite and hypothermia are another.
Tournament should be cancelled. Insane to have girls out there in this extreme cold. Nothing good to come out of it for anyone, but the people profiting from it. Risk of injury is greatly increased and no college coaches will be there. No one enjoys it. Especially difficult for the goalkeepers who can't run around to generate body heat.
So you never played a game in 35 degree weather? That is the forecast.
If the tournament does get cancelled, I will assure you that some of your coaches will be setting up scrimmages for this weekend.
8:49--35 degrees is the highest temperature reached at some point in the day.Might only be 13 degrees out at 8am. Besides, have you never heard of wind chill. What it is supposed to feel like outside is 20 to 30 degrees, and that is the high. Really now folks, where do you draw the line? What temperature is too cold?
Did you see the actual forecast?
11:21, yes I did, haven't you?NYC: Cold Week Will Lead to More SnowKristina PydynowskiBy Kristina Pydynowski, Senior MeteorologistFebruary 26, 2014; 3:32 AMMore Sharing ServicesShare | Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on linkedin Play videoWeather across the Northeast is detailed in the above AccuWeather.com video.Colder weather for New York City this week will lead to episodes of snow.Indications are that winter will be in no hurry to leave. Waves of arctic air and the polar vortex sinking southward will make for a cold end to February and start to March.Wednesday through Saturday, temperatures will then struggle or fail to reach the freezing mark. A high close to 45 F is more common in New York City this time of year.Brisk winds will create even lower AccuWeather.com RealFeel® temperatures. After a few snowflakes on Tuesday, a storm could bring a coating to an inch or so of snow and travel delays on Wednesday. Additional weak systems could bring spotty snow on Thursday and Saturday.
I blogged the forecast at 7:35 last night.Yes - games have been played in 35 degree weather. In this case, we are talking colder than that, we are talking wind and snow and we are talking about 3-4 games over a couple of days. It would not be right to go ahead with a tournament in these conditions for a number of reasons that include a) safety from injury b) safety from elements c) conditions that will not permit the players to use be their best d) miserable spectators.Soccer is a game to be played in the elements. I always content that. Wind. Rain. Heat to a point. There comes a point however where both players and parents lose any sense of enjoyment and the game cannot be played as it should. Again, there are reasons why countries with harsh winters do not play during the worst months. The play won't be good, if the ground is not snow covered. The spectators won't show. Injuries/exposure. These are adults and this is big business. They must all be wimps I guess. Nowhere as tough as we want our girls to be. Go out there girls and show everyone how tough you are. Battle the elements and prevail. Why ... so the tournament can come off and not need to be rescheduled or partially refunded.
Refund? Did your team get the insurance? If not, no refund.
Someone said "c) conditions that will not permit the players to use be their best " sounds like excuses for poor teams performance already being laid out. I wonder what team that would be?
1:16 ... why don't you just tell is what team you think it is ?The discussion seemed to be non-team specific about whether or not the tournament should even come off. But if you are taking it in a different direction, don't just throw out an unspecific jab - tell us what team you think is ready to made excuses due to the weather.
Tournament half-cancelled. Seems the top 2 flights are only playing with times after noon. Unless I read it wrong.I also have another question. NJ RUSH has NPL next to their name. Are they in the NPL? Which division... don't see them. Also, PDA Impact is PDA's NPL team? What league is their new team playing in?
NJ Rush is NPL through EDP. Don't know about Impact
I don't understand that. Care to elaborate? How do the two leagues "go together?"
Manhattan Tournament half cancelled - full refund to teams cancelled. Appreciate that.
NPL is run by US Club Soccer and has a variety of leagues throughout the country such as the NY NPL, Northeast NPL. EDP (or EDL as it's not called) is another NPL league but is the only one in the country that is not run by US Club Soccer, it is run by MAPS so it has it's own rules in terms of who it lets in. I'd be surprised if EDP lasts for too long within the NPL system.
Disappointing tournaments got cancelled. But it was the right thing to do. Early march and soccer in the northeast is a very iffy proposition. Hoping for better weather for upcoming competitions.
I don't believe the partial cancellation of the Manhattan tournament was done for the "right reason". If it was, the entire thing would have been cancelled. The cancellation was due to field conditions and not out of concern for the player's welfare. Hopefully, weather conditions will improve, however it's not likely for another month or 2.
I'm glad they cancelled the tournament because it could have been dangerous....better safe than sorry. But I have to say that it's a beautiful day here in NY. My neighbors kids just went by with no coats on their skateboards. I wonder if it had more to do with the field conditions. I'm sure the fields are in terrible shape.
No, they thought bad weather was coming in Sunday afternoon. They lost a lot of money because of a bad decision. Saturday am the temps were very low but no wind and a lot of sun.
10:41 They did the right thing according to the information they were given. This is why outdoor soccer should be scheduled for April-November in the Northeast. Scheduling soccer tournaments during the winter months is pure greed. I don't feel bad for them at all, it should have never been. I give them credit however, for canceling as it could have turned out much differently.
Looks like PDA showcase acceptances are posted:http://www.pdasoccer.org/tournaments/pdagirlscollegeshowcase/512211.html
YMS and COPA on on the list. Why?
I assume you meant "not" on the list? Happens all the time.
Why? Especially YMS.
YMS is a great team. Chose to play elsewhere. Rather go South and compete against Mid-Atlantic instead. A tough choice, but want the players to get a lot of looks from NC and Va schools. Some wonderful Tournaments and Showcases that most popular Holiday wkd. Good Luck to all!
Which tournament is that?PDA Impact is playing in the NPL. Is PDA Blue only playing Jags???
PDA Blues are playing in the Colonial League, whatever that is. Long distance travel to play JAGS level competition.
How would you know where PDA Blues are playing? How would you know the level of competition and distance?
