Picture this ...MF takes the high road, does the right thing, and has these 2 new teams start off with 0 points, with MF and the parents having full knowledge that they had it within their power to have the ECNL team hit the ground with 9K and the NPL team, 5K (estimates). How will the parents swallow this ? I would think not too well.Fact is, if they are going to be as good as some think, they will earn their fair share of points. If they are not, then those 9K points will disappear next spring.I give the NPL team a better shot at success than ECNL team. So my prediction is that even if the ECNL team grabs the 9K points, by the end of the spring, the NPL team will have surpassed them. Then they can reshuffle, add and cut players to their hearts content next May/June.
as a parent of an NPL kid, I could care less if they take points, don't care which team gets what or start from 0. way more important stuff in life to worry about!
Great perspective amigo. It is unfortunate that there are not that many that share it. It would be a better world for youth soccer without Got Soccer points, but it would also be a lot less interesting for those that feed off of it and think it matters. Its part of the landscape, and it helps determine flightings and what teams are comparable to others for competitions. Of course, this may not matter quite so much in ECNL where they tend to put themselves in a bubble and not want to play outside of their own little world. To me, that's a bit isolationist, with an elitist aire to it, but hey, it is part of the league name. The shame, for the better teams there is that they will not get exposure to some of the non-ECNL better teams, and they will also be forced to play inferior teams. An example of this: O'Reilly in the same league as MF ECNL, when you have a team like YMS and Rush who would give ample competition for PDA. There's A LOT more here a play that I do not have visibility into - politics, money, egos etc.
I asked one of the top coaches in NJ how many players he would want a high school age roster. The conditions were no money involved and no parent complainers. The response "22 so I could have 2 players in each position" I then asked what about 28. His response was " I would be unable to develop the team as the focus on the individual would be watered down. The players would also not enjoy it and seeing this would also influence my enjoyment which the players can read" If you read this forum and agree or disagree with 28 I think this response was as honest and professional as it comes
Top coach / shmop coach. By who's standards? That being said, I agree.Questions ... Are we still talking about mf here? Do they still have 28. I am hearing mixed reports here. Some say players have dropped after being lied to by mf or for other reasons. In any event, back to the main point of individual attention. What a novel idea. You know I have seen some so called top level youth coaches who don't know anything about giving personal instruction. So many of them want to hold themselves above it all, thinking that their one size fits all approach is going to get the job done. These people simple don't get it and while there may be some development happening under them, it is nowhere near what could be if they had the intellect, disposition and inclination to understand that much like the game presents dynamic situations, their players, their challenges and needs are going to vary from player to player. Coaching moments are not only those that can be told to the team as a group but also those that can be delivered individually, in a personal manner that helps not only make sure the point is understood, but develops trust, and yes.. Teamwork with the coach himself.Does your daughters coach ever take her aside for individual critique, praise and instruction?... Does your daughter feel comfortable approaching the coach with questions and concerns ?.. Does your daughters coach pay specific attention to her needs and deficiencies to plan and monitor ball and conditioning work at home to improve their game? The answer to these questions will be very telling to let you know your daughter's coach is anything more than someone filling spacematmyour daughter's expense. My observation is that unfortunately, teams with 15 to 18 players have coaches that fall way short in this area.As parents and as clubs, more needs to be demanded, especially for th prices some of us pay.
you don't have to be a top coach to understand this: I would be unable to develop the team as the focus on the individual would be watered down. The players would also not enjoy it and seeing this would also influence my enjoyment which the players can read"22 also allows for injuries which happen often at this age. 28 is just cash in the bank.
12:50 and there you have it. MF is only in it for the money as is quite clear by the huge rosters they carry. Most of the players won't develop and they are just going to piss off everyone. The girls who sit will be upset that they don't play OR the girls who play will be upset because the perceived lesser players will be getting playing time they shouldn't be. Cash is king!
Even 22 is too much. Have 17-18 and a Bteam of players to pratice/train with and back-up pool of players. This way Bteam gets to actually play in games and develop.
I was talking to a mother who daughter just joined MF. Her daughter's team just broke apart and she was so thankful to find a team that she did not ask any questions. She is a MF newbie, I will keep my ears tuned about her MF experience over the year. I hope it works out.She mentioned she was on the NPL team.
I am absolutely not a fan of MF.But in this particular case, their ECNL team roster on the ECNL site has 21 players. Not 28. Not sure about their NPL team.
Last roster I saw had MF NPL team at 25. That's still way too many.
If I could ,I would carry 30 players or more to make more money and have lots of flexibility. Still only play 13-14. Need practice and intra scrimmage players.
Why stop at 30?
The former TR fusion coach ( Mr kick and run ) is now a Marchfit Academy coach - U14 - that is outrageous , I thought he wanted to spend more time with his family - I also thought that MF had to deprogram his players from their bad soccer habits . Now parents are paying Academy prices to have their daughters learn the kick and run game!
LOL , grooming him for the NPL team next year at U16 , where his kid will be playing.
Matchfit Freshman kicking butt in HS!
8:53 You got that right and it's NOT just the North Jersey girls as MF would have you believe.
So are the other freshman that play for high level club teams.
what a bogus post. define kicking butt ... what have they possibly accomplished in a couple HS games. And btw, I should hope so - here we have a club that aspires to be at the top of NJ and US soccer, and they get braggadocios about their conquests in HS ball. HS ball. You gotta be kidding me.Go away and write back when your kid does something at a level that warrants a post here.MF girls kicking butt in HS ball - get serious.
we have 2 freshman that play higher level. both are on varsity. one is from MF.
Typical High School Soccer: You have a bad coach (not a bad person) who has less of a clue than most of the lower end club coaches (and I don't mean the clubs are lower end - I mean the coaches here). Then you get a mix of players. Some are playing soccer at an elevated quality level, and have a good idea, at this stage of the game, what soccer should be, a higher than average set of skills and a better than average tactical understanding of the game. But I think the large majority of them are playing at a lower level of travel soccer. You will not find them on teams that are ranked or oft-discussed on this forum. And then, you also have girls who play no other soccer at all. So you have coaches performing crude training, over-running their players, lots of drills with players standing in long lines, and girls who are so clueless about possession soccer that they shout 'we're going the other way' if a teammate passes the ball back - and coaches who don't correct them. You have most of the girls coming from an environment where the big long boot is promoted and cheered by parents and the most repeated words used by the coach are "send it". OK - so we have the aspect of the girls getting the school spirit experience and playing with their friends and getting a letter and a jacket etc. etc. Yes there is value there. For memories and nostalgia and bonding in school. Wundebar. But to blog about accomplishments in high school soccer ? IMO, to combine MF and HS soccer in the same sentence to give praise to players is ludacris, whether or not you are talking about W/L, goals, who made which team or received all-whatever at the end of the season. Go ahead - no one is stopping you ... knock youself out. I will tell you what though ... on another note ... if there are any players in HS ball that are playing at a lower level than their talent and skills warrant and it is due to $$$, this is a crime, and it is an indictment of our youth soccer system.
There are fair amount of Freshman from all over playing Varsity HS soccer, and they do not play for MF! These girls play on various club teams and some are non-academy. I hope they all have a good time, make new friends and avoid injuries.
Well, I suppose, if we concede that the soccer aspect of the experience is a waste of time, the I agree wholeheartedly with 10:43. The only thing I would do is prioritize this desired outcome as follows (not to say 10:43 was prioritizing):Avoid Injuries, Make New Friends and Have a Good Time.
Oh .. you mean MF doesn't have the monopoly on freshman girls playing varsity and kicking butt ?
stupid parents, not all HS are equal. Varsity means very little on many different teams.
418 has it correct. Some schools have very strong Varsity, others a mixed bag of skills/abilities. The Varsity team my freshman daughter plays on has no non-club soccer players. And of those, they all play for higher level teams so all-in-all a pretty good caliber.
So in such cases where there are a lot of high level varsity girls, the girls can teach the coach what good soccer looks like. Many times I have heard non hs coaches saying they when they get the girls back from hs, they need to first break them of all the bad habits they picked up.
8:32 In some cases that's true, but I wasn't talking about transitioning back to club, I was strictly focusing on the high school season. Most of these girls ALSO have club practice once a week through the fall so if the coach sees bad habits forming he/she should be correcting them as they go, not waiting until the official club season starts.
PDA OR dropped to 16th in nation. I have never seen them below 4th ... Don't recall. Does this mean we should stop caring about ecnl teams in the rankings? Does it mean we should not care about the rankings if PDA are not near the top? Is this what we should come to expect from ecnl teams who are off in their own little isolated world? We all know the super quality of OR. But does take a little luster away from them? oR has always been their never fail team.
If there were a match between PDA and Copa, I would place my money on PDA. Any others?
Many HS coaches also have very good club teams. It is common in MD and VA to have high quality HS coaches that also coach with local club. Look at coaches bio's of the top 20 HS teams in the country. But, most are just young teachers trying to make a few extra bucks or follow a passion.
LOL, this is just too funny! again someone just looking at the rankings and not how they came to be. not a PDA parent but when another NJ team beats O'R, then you can MAYBE consider using FAIL when describing them. quality over quantity my friend!
MF is at it again. More lies and the head guy is completely full of himself with power. Someone needs to tell him to just stop. It's beyond ridiculous.
Lies about what now ? Playing time or rosters ?
Lies about: playtime, roster sizes (HUGE!!), times and locations of practices. Some people have to travel great distances which is NOT what was told at sign up time. They ask too much and then say if you don't come you don't play even when it becomes a travel hardship for some.MF = MONEY FUND
Cut your losses now while u can , before u get anymore into the $$$ flow. Travel/Tournamnet costs and your kid does not play or at all . Find another club that wants your child to play and develop
Is this MF ECNL we are talking about here ?Regarding this:the head guy is completely full of himself with powerThat is not good. But if anyone is going to have the power, it should be the coach, and he should make sure that parents stay out of the mix. Maybe he is trying to set the tone from the beginning. Too many parents have the ear of a coach and try to impart their influence, and they think they can do so because they are using their little Suzie Soccer for leverage (shame on them, btw). Sound like anyone you know ?So again, maybe the MF chap is a real jerk, or maybe some people are not liking his decisions and are frustrated that they don't have the influence they've been accustomed to. Maybe a little bit of both.
MF is a fluid situation and always will be. Players will move up and down, locations will change. They don't care what one parent thinks, and they shouldn't.
No I am talking about MF in it's entirety, not just ECNL. And for the record, I have NEVER had any influence with a coach, nor did I try to. This is just about a club and a "leadership" team (including coaches and admin . . and I use the term leadership loosely!) run amok.
9:15 Spoken like an ECNL parent (synonymous with "having the ear of the coach", cocky, self-important blow hards). The biggest lie of all is that players will move up. Some players will most definitely move down/out but they rarely move up even if they deserve to. They will look outside the club for the next best thing. (Development at it's worst.)There is not just one parent complaining on this forum, and there are many unhappy parents that have already paid and will probably rethink next years placement for their kid.
10:08 .. I wasn't thinking you were one of the 'influencers' out there. Do a lot of other parents feel this way ? I'm interested in hearing what else they are doing. And not trying to say anything about your daughter's level of play, but would they make this edict of missing practices means you don't play, if let's say, the girl who had to miss them was the top player on the team, ODP national and an extremely talented and prolific goal scorer ? It is funny sometimes how the same rules don't apply to everyone, or they change to suit the situation.
I am surprised considering all the negativity about mf that u hear here that they were able to roster two full teams at this age. Those two were the result of some consolidation by attrition, as they intended to have three teams. Based on all the feedback here, seems like if many parent were allowed to rethink their decision to sign up, they would more likely have only one team. And the quality of this team still remains to be seen but I am not sure I see any reason to believe they will be any better than their previous previous flagship, crown jewel of a team that was formed last year with toms river and beachwood. I guess we will see if the vaunted coaching staff at mf can develop anything. So far, it does not seem they are doing to well in gaining parental confidence and buy in.
8:35 My daughter's level of play is high so it's not directed at her specifically, it was directed to everyone in the club. However, your point about the rules not applying to everyone is certainly how that club runs (as I'm sure many other clubs do as well). They say the rules are such and such, but there are always players that are exempt from the rules. It's disgusting and that's what makes everyone else who adheres to the rules angry and disillusioned.
I have older kids who played soccer and although they have not played for MF, they have had players who left MF come to their team. It seems little has changed.
How are the mf coaches on the pitch where it counts for development, especially in training? Seems like we have an established opinion that their morals, credibility, integrity and fairness are questionable, at best. Maybe they make up for it in what the offer and can do in developing the players ... All of the players, from top to bottom. My opinion .. If the player makes the team and pays the tuition, then she should be privy to every ounce of coaching effort and values the next player, whether she is #1 or # 30 on the mf roster, so long as she brings the right attitude and effort. Seemingly lost in so many of these conversation is that is what we are actually paying top dollar for, isn't it, after all? I think a lot of these soccer clubs and coaches tend to so full of themselves that they seem to forget what they are there for, and that is to offer a product. ... A service for kids where at the end of the, come hell or high water, everything else can go out the window, but what MUST remain is the betterment of the youth. I am not on the inside here, but from what I've heard, I think mf grades are pretty low here as well. These companies are making boatloads of money off of the dreams of kids and hopes of parents. For them not to take this to heart and provide unadulterated soccer educations and growth for the money is a crime itself. But until we have that revolution - pyramid inversion - of soccer in this country, we can only rely on chance that the trainer assigned to our girls has a heart that is in the right place. Not the way it should be.
you know how they say for celebrities, any press is good press - good or bad, as long as they stay in the public eye.i am wondering if MF feels the same way. they probably have no clue about what get's written about them out here.a lot of the parents probably do, i would think.
The effort of many of the coaches (training, development, college recruiting, etc.) is mainly focused on who THEY perceive to be the top players. Many strong players at all levels/different teams are largely ignored. It is not even, it is not fair. Some teams and many players get little to no recognition or effort (as described above). This is why I believe many parents may be rethinking where they spend their money next time around. It's simply not worth putting any more eggs in the MF basket.
3:13 So wouldn't it be fair to say, that the parents, as consumers, would be getting some good information as to where to do their "soccer shopping" based on what they read? Granted, not everything you read on a forum is true/right/fair, however, it should make people think and become 'educated consumers', yes?
that is where it is up to the parent to be educated and involved in recruiting. it can't be left up to the coach no matter how much he loves your kid. he has 18-25 players. I have 1.my kid was involved(scored or assisted) in about 60% of the goals scored in tournaments with only 50% playing time yet she was not valued by her coach. Never missed a PK. she is not the most aggressive player out there but got it done when it counted. we found a coach who does value her.
716... Please tell as much as you can. I know anonymity is key for some out her. Where was your daughter, and where did she go ? Even if u can't mention the specific teams, did she need top drop a level or two in order to dry this appreciation? Are you finding that along with the appreciation, the level of play is equivalent or better? And what about thhe soccer acumen of the coach? My area of nj has such a lack of quality teams. It's not as if we have many options without excessive travel.
No, same level. as an example, we all know of a VERY successful team ( would be U16) that changed coaches. old coach had his favorites, new coach developed different favorites. same group of kids. half the parents were unhappy and took their kids to someone/somewhere they thought would appreciate them more. happy parents were stuck with half a team. team folded. we all see different things.
Nice recent article on ODP being the common thread for the GNT U-17. 72% of the players selected are ODP.
The better question - how many kids who play ODP do not make the U17 National Team? 99.9999%
Wow! Just a good article on how girls have gone through ODP to get to Women's National Team(WNT U-17) be postive.Player should have a goal and a route/path to get there. ODP is one proven document way of reaching goal to USA Women's National teams. That's all.
why is that such a surprise? ODP was the ONLY route until iD2 which is only how old? As the years go on, you will see the numbers equal and then turn since ECNL draws the stronger players.
We are moving to Woodcliff Lakes, NJ soon. I need some club recommendations in that area. My daughter is currently a starter on a ECNL team. Due to work commitments, I will not be able to drive far for training, so ECNL is not a priority. We are just looking for a club close to that area with a competitive U15 team. Appreciate any help!
If that's in North Jersey, Bergen County, you are really close to World Class (NY team) which is an ECNL team. Also NJ Crush is/was a pretty strong team. I'm sure there are others, but those two come to mind. Good luck.
To the U15 G ECNL player looking for a team - if you would like to guest at WAGS this weekend please call ( 908)655-7144
Thanks for the offer but we will already be at WAGS with her current team from VA...thanks for the info on WC and Crush...will start making calls to coaches next week. I know most teams are set for Fall but hopefully we can find the right fit.
Another club to look at in North Jersey is NJ Stallions. Not ECNL but some decent teams.
Coming from VA, most top teams here in NJ will be better and more respected then the ECNL teams in VA. An out of state player could have a difficult time in NJ. Not intended to be a bash on ECNL as a whole(some excellent ECNL teams here in NJ) but The further South one goes the less important ECNL is. We are very fortunate here in NJ to have some great teams in ECNL and non-ECNL.
A new MF season and the same shenanigans go on. One mom in particular just can't seem to stay off the field chewing the ear of the girls DoC. Some things will never change.
Omg just stop.
Stop what? Stop the mom from chewing the ear of the doc? Or stop letting people know that it is happening? Is this chewing going on with their a team or their b team? Just trying to figure out which one of these "lovely" soccer mammas the blogger is talking about. Maybe she's just an Amway salesperson lady trying to sell some product.
lol she probably needs the extra cash to afford MF.
PDA O'R Falls to #15 and #5 in NJ ?
For a month already, PDA has been at #15.They don't care about the ranking. I don't think. They will tell you that they are superior to most of the teams ranked above them. They will tell you that the schedule and games they play do not lend itself to bolstering their Got Soccer numbers, but that is ok, because they know the quality of competition they are getting is superior to the top, Non-ECNL GS ranked teams. They are basically above all of this. They don't look at this blog, and they don't care about the rankings.
hahaha O'Reilly can beat your kid's team so ...who cares about GS?MF mom, go sit in the car and stop embarrassing yourself.
Can someone tell me honestly, are there any good clubs in New Jersey that have integrity, are honest with the players and parents and are truly in it for the kids?If so, if you could post who they are I'd really appreciate it. So disgusted with the entire youth soccer political machine. My kid just wants to play good soccer.
26 players on PDA O'R roster. Can some say playing time?Just being on a very good team and paying the high fees gets you a scholarship? A 1/4 scholarship that is evaluated and can be re-newned yearly. Benech players have the best seat in the house, especially now that it is getting cold and wet. That is my daughter, you cannot see her number becuase of the blanket, but she is in that big group or girls at the end of the bench.
For this post:Anonymous said... Can someone tell me honestly, are there any good clubs in New Jersey that have integrity, are honest with the players and parents and are truly in it for the kids?I say ...The first question about integrity and honesty with players and parents ... this is something you can find if you look in the right place. Of course, there is probably no perfect equation - integrity and honesty could include a statement like 'your daughter has made the team but she does not warrant as much playing time as the top players on the team. Here is what she needs to improve in order to get more playing time ... "As far as being in it for the kids - I think you are asking for too much - I don't think you will find that. You may find some paid professionals who do the right thing and do have integrity - within that framework, they can make decisions in the best interests of the kids, again, they are paid, and if that professional believes that a decision in the best interest of your kid could be contradict a decision in the best interest of either a) the team or b) another player he values more, then don't expect the decision to be made in favor of your kid. But yes - there are some clubs and coaches with credibility and integrity. You just need to ask around, but keep in mind that finding the right level for your daughter to prosper at is probably a big part of the equation of how satisfied you will be.
Where in NJ are you that you are looking ?
New PDA North team could possibly be a new threat. With the head coach being a D1 college soccer coach, and having many connections, those girls are in a good place. I heard Anderson, head coach of PDA, sees real potential in this team and may recruit some for O'reilly later down the road. However, this year will most likely be a struggle because it is their gelling year. The girls don't know each other yet so I am excited to see the outcome..
Thank you for the update PDA North parent!p.s. get over yourselves
starter on the new team or # 20-26 on O'Reilly. jump at that. sign my kid up for O'Reilly! NOT!
Why doesn't everyone calm down, wait for the season to begin and see who plays whom. Only then can we determine which team(s) are the best, since that appears to be what all this bragging is about, no?
You just can't judge O'Reilly against anyone else. They are far and away the best in our area. They'll be the first to tell you that.Besides - they don't play anyone locally. Just ask YMS. Let them keep proving themselves in the Evade Competition from Nearby (Teams) League (That is what ECNL stands for - isn't it ?)
9:36 re: ECNL Good one!
If NOT a starter and/or NOT getting lots of playing time, why pay the big bucks to get overlooked? and finace the rest of team/club. Always looking for practice players with money. Might even promise them a few minutes a game as long as it's not close. Can not take the stats away from the starters that are going somewhere. It's u-15 ! If not a starter or player by now, what are you looking for? Always HS.
458 - sentiment understood. But you have to divide the camp into two . those who can predict they will be non starters and those who think they will start but end up as non starters. So the people in the former - if they can predict this status for themselves, yes, they could and should stay away. Then the question is what is the average # of players on a 20 person roster that fits this mold vs. those that have a clear shot at displacing someone as a starter. The idea of subsidizing other players would not sit well with me while my kids rides the pines. The equation should actually be the other way around - pay by the minute played. That would really turn the youth soccer world on its ear. You'd have parents rooting against their kids ... lol.
I guess it is different at each age group. My experience is at the early ages it is better to have a great coach/trainer regardless of PT. Hopfully the team at u-11,u-12,u-13 is playing lots of games in many leagues and tournaments all year, so everyone is getting plenty of PT. At U-15 When the colleges start looking, Player needs to be a starter, so find the best team possible that fits the players talent and PT goals BY U-14 or at late u-15. Not many players can walk on a very good u-15 and start without getting all the other parents out of wack. Teams either strive forward and advance or start falling apart at u-15. U-15 is HUGE to the future of a player.
newss tournament picks?
Kinda have to wait for the brackets to come out to be able to give some picks that are worth anythingLets hope O'Reilly and YMS can lock horns that weekendLets see if COPA can play with some of the big boys like the 2 teams aboveBe interesting to see how some of the newly formed ECNL teams do Should be a good weekend of soccer with quality teams
lets hope for nice weather. hope COPA gets top flight. it's only fair I mean they are #1 in NJ and the Region right?
It appears that some of the spoiled players who are used to doing whatever they want and getting away with it are finding out that their new ECNL coach doesn't work that way. Guess if you want to play, you have to show up and actually practice. . . just like everyone else.
The NEWSS brackets are out. Top Bracket will pit NJ Crush, Copa and PDA-O'R against one another. Well I guess we will all get a chance to see who winds up on top of that heap.
And it begins....guess if those spoiled players don't get the time they think they deserve it is their own fault Just have to hope the coach continues with his philosophy even if the team starts off slowly
I am going to guess that when you write new and ECNL together in the same blog, you are referring to Match Fit ... right ?Is this intra-team parental commentary already, even before the 1st whistle of the first tournament ?Coming from someone not on the inside here, I have seen many a statement made by coaches that practice is very important, attendance, performance and attitide, but when it comes down to it, the girls that a coach thinks will give the team the best chance to win will be on the field. So we will see if this coach is any better than the rest, or like the others, will pressure to win and get points outweigh the fairness he preaches.
9:40 I agree with your last comment.
so tired of being lied to.
classic bait and switch
good luck to all the New Jersey teams this weeekend in Md.let the games begin. may all the parents be civil. wait a minute, can someone pass the kool aide? i am out, thank you.
1:28 am What lies are you being told? I'm curious.
I am thinking it is one parent on the MF ECNL team that is not happy and is posting.I don't have a problem with that. The person has a right to vent.I would just like a little more substance to understand what the real problem is.Also wondering if this parent has taken their concern to the coach. Not sure how much money MF has taken so far, but you always take your daughter elsewhere. I am sure that there are other teams where she would be happier.
If it's MF, they already have ALL the money. That's how it works. They take ALL the money BEFORE the season starts, making promises that they renege on AFTER the season starts so now it's too late to card to another team or to get your money back. Even if you could get $$$$ back, your kid is already carded and out of luck.
Wrong you are. It is the players card! If you want your daughter to leave, she can.
does anyone know where I can bring my daughter in Ocean county? we are new to the area and she would like to join a team for winter training and the spring season. Thanks for any help.
NJ Rush may not be in Ocean but could be in driving distance, depending on where you are and how far you are willing to go.
the question should be what level does your daughter play? lots of teams at all levels in Ocean county and surrounding area.
Really? Name a top team in Ocean county?
"and surrounding area"I never said there was a top team in OC. So quick to judge. OP never said they were looking for a top team. For whatever you think it is worth, I counted 6-8 U15 teams on the GS top 20 with a 45-60 minute drive depending on where you are in OC.
How much is MF? They don't seem terribly organized. Their website last year said they would have tryouts at different locations and that didn't happen. I don't want to drop a huge chunk of change (and it sounds like it has to be up front) only to have the "information" change .... again.
ECNL is set up to take ALL the money up front. A good technique to keep players(or parents)from jumping with a history. You want to play, then pay ALL up front and just relax for a year.
10:35 ... ?keep players from jumping with a history ?do you mean keep players with a history of jumping from switching teams mid-season ?Whatever the reason they take the money up-front - economics or team stability, its all fine and well as long as they deliver what they promise. But from everything I heard out there, MF does not. This is a chicken-egg type of thing ... what came first, the dissatisfied player/parent who wants to jump mid-season, or the soccer organization full of jerks who create situations where people want to jump ship mid-season.
Additional MF problems I observe: problem parent from another team that joined, is constantly "in the coaches ear" hovering behind the bench at scrimmages and standing along the team side of the fence line at practice. It needs to stop. Your little precious is just NOT that good. or do you realize it and that's why you feel you must constantly be talking to the coach?Let the coach coach. You're just a parent now, just like everyone else.
Steve, you know better, now move along.
8:03: lolI think it's the OTHER team, though. There is certainly more than ONE problem parent associated with this age group.
The MF teams got themselves bumped up to higher brackets in NEWSS next weekend.Look for better results from the NPL team,I think these ECNL parents are in for a rude awakening. I will be the first to come back here and say I was wrong if warranted, but I can't see them coming away from NEWSS with more than 2 ties and a 3rd or 4th place finish in their group. MF should have been content to keep them flighted where they were originally, 1-2 flights down. Have the girls play, have some success and build some confidence. Their eventual success would then warrant playing at higher levels.Time will tell, but I don't see this team being any greater than the sum of its parts, meaning MF will not be adding any value for all the money paid in.
regarding the inquiry about ocean county teams, if u are willing to drive up to monmouth, olsa/wildcats has a new team, supposed to have some really nice players. The club owner has personally taken this team under his wing, probably due to the promise he sees. I haven't seen them accomplish much yet, so you won't see them ranked anywhere, but that is most probably because of how new they are, and high school ball.
No horse in this race but wonderingWhy would NEWSS put Crush in top bracket instead of Copa? When Copa at this time is #1Going by past body of work ?O'Reilly/YMS same bracket who will win head to head and who advances
OLSA club owner will drive you away too. Check the background story before you move there.
agree, COPA wants to be #1/#1/#1 and parents brag about it, put them in the top bracket and see how they do. we know they have never beaten PDA and YMS which is why they are flighted 2nd. nothing wrong about bragging as long as you keep it in perspective.putting PDA and YMS in same bracket is just wrong. let's knock out one of the best teams in the region to keep lesser teams. doesn't make sense.beachside top flight? unless they have seriously improved they don't belong there. COPA is a better team. as far as any "hovering parents", the coach needs to send them away. my kid would be telling me to go away. she is 15. the last thing she wants is mommy or daddy hanging round. time to step back daddy. both MF teams are practically brand new teams. we'll see.
Where does anyone see or hear about copa parents bragging? I haven't seen it on this blog. If the parents are going around with big #1 foam fingers at tournaments I haven't seen it and I have seen them at some tournament over the last year. Maybe they were not number 1 yet. Looks like PDA can't duck Yms this time.
I have to agree with 5:11pm.. on the PDA and YMS in the same bracket.. That's a final type game not a bracket type game.. They both are quality teams/programs but I guess Newss wanted Canada to make the final since they traveled.
sometimes even great teams are drawn into the group of death. don't be so sure PDA won't pull some strings before the tournament to have the teams separated. That is their MO, is it not ?
MO or not, in this case they would be right.
Just play and stop the whinning. Does it really matter who you play in top brackets? Being there speaks volumes. There are four teams that could win it. Simple, Win and advance.
Does anyone know how they factor in flight point value if one of the teams is either a new team with 0 points or a foreign team?
Zero is Zero
For all your angst about NEWSS, it's NOT a good tournament. Period! Put it in perspective and use it as a warm up tool for the real tournaments/season to come. If you're lucky at this age, a few college coaches might show up, but it's a showcase tournament and they never really look at freshmen anyway. (might show up for PDA/YMS matchup but other than that, consider it a scrimmage at best for the rest of the teams).
Earn a team history. New teams that do not have 51% from another team with history/points get ZERO.Canadian teams have a history. So one team YMS/O'R goes home with only semi-finalist points if that. Absolutely fair. Why the stress for points? To get in the top flights at Showcases at u-17 when it really matters. Top two or even a third player on a top team will start to get recruited at u-15/u-16 but most coaches really do not have the time/money on propects that anything can happen (including the coach) avg coach stay is 4 years? wow. D1 rules prohibit D1 coaches from contact untill after 10th grade. Get and read the NCAA rules. Those form letters in the mail are worthless. Nice brochure though. The flood of recruting starts at u-17. Remember, official binding signings come in Feb of Senior year. Everything up to that point is promises, and we saw from the Pres what promises mean.
malarky !!!!and PDA does want to build back their points - trust me on that.9:25 - the only things I can say to you about promises is "READ MY LIPS" and WMDs found in IRAQ.
What I'd like to know is who is this MF Academy North Black team, who took all the points front the former Thunder team? Not ONE OF THOSE PLAYERS was a MF player and now they are ranked above the NPL team? What is this nonsense? The Thunder won the MF tournament and the Thunder was the US Club State Cup finalist last season. Where did these players come from and how can they take the points WHEN NOT ONE OF THE PLAYERS was even on MF???
Re: Zero is ZeroThis cannot be the case for a 4 team, 3 game round robin showcase. Winner gets 75% of the flight value.Anyone have knowledge of how this works? Just curious.
3:55 - It just goes to show how unscrupulous an organization MF is and also how little the points mean in GOT Soccer. How desperate an organization MF must be to pull this one.
not really sure what you are pissing and moaning about?MF ECNL team is entered in NEWSS, not the former thunder now listed as Black. they have no games or points. as Blacks points expire it will drop just like NJX and every other team.they get top flights just because they are now ECNL. might not be right but that is how it goes.MF surge is NE NPL, guessing they retained enough players to retain points.
4:41Points of clarification: MF ECNL is NOT the Black team. The Black Team is some random team that is now MF, NOT incorporating ANY players from either the former Thunder or Surge. Who now somehow inherited the Thunder points. The majority of the former Surge team is the NPL team along with some Thunder players, NJX players and some others. The ECNL team is mostly former Surge players along with some Thunder players and others and for some reason is not listed on GotSoccer at all even with 0 points.
8:55 can you read? I said...- MF ECNL team is entered in NEWSS, not the former thunder now listed as Black- MF surge is NE NPL, guessing they retained enough players to retain points.if you want to correct what I said, please wait until it is wrong?unless something has changed, these are the only 2 U15 MF teams. as far as Black being "some random team that is now with MF". Watch it disappear as the points expire. there is no team in that spot. which is it...?"The majority of the former Surge team is the NPL team" or"The ECNL team is mostly former Surge players"Surge must have had a HUGE roster to now have a majority of players on two teams??
10:53 There are 3 u15 MF teams. NPL, ECNL, and Black. Black appears to be a majority of Roxbury... which is infact a MF affilitate. Not sure if that works into how they are using Thunder points. Perhaps it is an error from Got Soccer that will be corrected.
MF really cares about MF! You parents will just talk about each other, behind everyones backs. Quite humorous to listen too.
re: OLSA club owner driving you away and checking background story ... can you expound on this ? I don't know anyone who is there or who has ever been. where would I find this background story ?
Whoever Match Fit Black is, they won't be keeping their number9 ranking in NJ for much longer. They just lost both of their games at the Maps cup today.
MF Black lost 5-0 & 4-0 at EDP Cup today. I'm guessing like the Surge parents stated last year, they need time to gel.
Wow, that is pretty unfair. Comparing rosters, take 5 girls from a team ranked #33 onto a new team and throw them up against Crush.
Matchfits own fault for transferring points from an ok team like thunder to a brand new team and essentially "ranking" them higher and placing themselves against competition that is just too strong for them. Still Matchfit is all about development right? They did it to themselves...
Have 2 girls in club no problems with owner / coaches. Check out website to see former players who are playing in college and those committed. Having our daughter with the club gave her the opportunity to play in college.
Last post was about OLSA Wildcat owner coach. No problems for us .
Hope MF Ecnl team doing okay this weekend at NEWSS. Look like will be tough weekend ahead.
November 24, 2013 at 11:58 AM do you have a freshman at D1 and soph in HS?
I've never gotten a good vibe from that guy. I've heard some of the same - he does post a good track record, but then again, maybe had these kids gone elsewhere, they would have excelled even more.what do we know about hist new team at this age ? Seems like they got a few points from some low level tournament, but have they played anyone of any substance ?
so he's pretty much like every other person in youth soccer who is running a business?
It will always keep coming back to the same thing in my book....we have our youth soccer system all wrong. And there good and bad people within the warped system. Still that does not explain someone who is a jack wad.
You have obviously had some personal issues with the coach. The majority of the parents are pleased with the club. As for the players going further if not with the club.... How much further they are playing in college ? Not just making a team, in college, but playing in college games. You and your child have to be in a club that will work to get him/her them to their potential. The club was not for you and your child and that is ok. I wish you the best..
So do we want to take bets that NEWSS does the same thing that many tournaments did last weekend?
What did tournaments do last weekend?
So what happened to JU this weekend? Played 3, lost 3? Were all the starters at a college ID camp again?
To the coaches that forfeited or agreeded to not play their scheduled games on that ridiculously cold & dangerous Sunday of the EDP Cup, you have earned my respect & admiration. You put your players well-being & safety ahead of potential wins & GS points. Its a shame that the other greedy and uncaring coaches didn't follow your example. Kudos to you!
cold yes, dangerous no. Play the games.
you sign up for tournaments in June-July-August, it is going to be hot.you sign up for tournaments in Dec-Jan-Feb-March, it is going to be cold. play the games.
28-30 degrees not including the wind chill from gusts of 30-45 mph winds that bring the real feel to 15 degrees is not your normal cold. It is dangerous for athletes that have asthma and other conditions affected by severe cold. Bodies react differently in extreme cold, one example is reaction time is slower. The chance for injury is greatly increased. So, how cold would be too cold to not play? And how hot?
What team is Thunder? All Matchfit teams are over-rated. ECNL coach walked around last year like he was putting together the National team and I saw them play at News and nothing to brag about. Caught Dynamite on down day and only goal came on free kick.
That's soccer a free kick or a blast from 30 out still have to get it in. Teams have good games and bad games just the way it goes and don't have a kid on either MF or Dmite. By this age we have all watched enough soccer to realize it is whoever is on that game/day
How good is the FC Copa team? I saw they were #1 in NJ? Are they better than WC, PDA and Math Fit at this age?
They are a good team. I would say in the top 5 of NJ.PDA O'Reilly is and has been best team in NJWC plays a good game but they are not as strong as some teams.MF ECNL is a good NEW team that could say are top 5 as well in NJ
Any thoughts on top 10 teams in NJ?
Here are my top 10, ordered by their GS ranking, which is not necessarily my ranking. Historically, no one has come close to O'Reilly, but I am inclined to think that maybe a couple of these teams are closing the gap - one of them a brand new team.FC COPA ACADEMY CELESTEPDA O'REILLYNEW JERSEY RUSH 98 GIRLS NPLMORRIS UNITED STA 98/99G NPLNJ CRUSH FC CHARGEMATCH FIT ACADEMY FC ECNL U15NJSA 04 STING NPLPDA BLUESSOUTH JERSEY ELITE BARONS '98 PHOENIXNJ STALLIONS ACADEMY BEC CELTICSAdding some other decent teams to round up to 15Mt. LaurelTSFPDA ImpactPrinceton SAJersey UnitedLastly, if you go over into PA, there are some teams that are very close to NJ that would crack the top 10.
I almost entirely agree with your top 10 besides the new PDA and BEC. BEC lost a lot of players over the Summer, hard to replace a lot of starters. As for PDA I can only comment on what I saw this past weekend but they only had 1 player who will score all their goals. I wasn't impressed by the overall standard, an ok starting team but the bench was fairly weak. Let's see what the Rutgers coach can do with the team over the Winter.
8:42. What has Princeton shown you for you to place them in the top 15. And why did you leave out the RAGE.
O'R not at CASL this weekend. YMS want it rematch....
BEC and new MF both at CASL this weekend. Lets see who does better and how much those BEC starters are missed. They might have the buyers remorse that many MF parents have.
8:42 - Surprising that you left out JU. PDA Blue listed, but not PDA Impact. Why?
8:42 here.Guys and gals. This is not an exact science. I was just trying to opine on a question.Princeton ... yeah .. you are right .. they really haven't done much, which is why they are not in the top 10.Jersey United had put up a lot of points last year, but fallen off recently. Its getting to be around the time when better soccer starts beating better athletes. I think they need a better system. And I think recently their tournament results have not been good at all.Rage - they could probably be in the top 15, but since I wasn't counting to 16, someone had to drop, and I picked them.As far as the Blues vs. Impact ... I think Blues won something fairly recently. Maybe they need some more success to be in top 10, but does the Impact belong there instead of them ? Not so sure.
BEC and MF ecnl on the 3rd bracket. BEC took 1st place.
No they didn't. Round Robin Showcase style. They weren't in the same group. Go look at the head to head. MF much tougher matches.
What about Copa 1st on the top group. Do they win the bracket on goal diff?
No... they won fair and square. I don't like their TOURNAMENT AFTER TOURNAMENT RACK UP THE POINTS tactics but I have to give them this one. Two out of three of the teams they faced were tough competition. Brackets were really mixed and random. MF had two tough teams in their bracket also.. BEC had none. Who knows how they do it... confusing. What's up with RUSH? They are really struggling.
when you talk about tournament after tournament of racking up points, this is usually done by a team playing in lesser tournaments and in lower flights. In COPA's case, it seems that they have been doing quite well in some good tournaments in the higher or top brackets.
I would say PDA Impact in top 10 over PDA Blues no doubt. They are a very good team and play tough teams and have won.PDA RANKINGS:O'ReillyImpactBluesI don't think you would get an argument from many in PDA on that.JU also top 10 over SJ Elite and BECO'Reilly, MF ECNL,Crush I would say top 3, after that it could be any of the rest of those teams that could beat each other on any given day for the most part
Crush top 5 for sure.MF ECNL - you are a little premature. A good tournament win in NEWSS followed by a mediocre showing in CASL.Let the girls gel and get some games under their belt before you start touting them. When all is said and done, they will be a top team - but you are getting way ahead of yourself.
I mean MF ECNL top team in NJCASL they are playing other statesYes, I agree give them time and they can be a top team in Region as well
YMS ? good showing in NEWS tying O'R and Crush. Very good display at casl.
YMS was at CASL..who did they playI can't seem to come across them at CASL
Maybe because they didn't play in the showcase, but in National League.http://tournaments.usyouthsoccer.org/events/2013-2014-National-League/Schedule/U15-Girls/Division+1/
How does YMS think a tie is good. PDA doesn't.
I don't think YMS said a tie was good. I am guessing its someone comparing YMS results to their own and calling it good. I watched the YMS vs PDA game and trust me it shouldn't of been a tie.
YMS should have easily had two goals in 1st half. Had maybe 5-6 corner kicks in second but no real shots other then corners.PDA O'R had a great opp in second but O'R player slipped inside the 18 and did not get a strong touch. So, could have been 2-0 YMS or even 1-0 PDA. But just another tie. would like to see top matches at 90 min. Now that is something we can agreed on??
