Sure, play dumb. Tripping a player in front of goal, holding him back by his shirt, Obstructing his line of vision, using his hands to stop a goal, late tackles, dives.
Tactical fouls or decisions... Not dirty play. Try again with an actual example
Keep telling yourself that those are all legal plays. Why do refs hand out cards then? You're just a coach trying to defend your club's dirty policy. Teaching little kids how to cheat and maybe get away with it. We need more coaches like you. Not!
...Nice burn. Not!This is U17 boys blog Who is a little kid at this age? Outfield player using hands to stop a goal...red card but a player still must make the penalty. It's tactical the player is giving his team a chance. Ask Ghana's Asamoah Gyan how he felt about that in 2010 World Cup vs UruguayYou know me almost as well as you know how to play the game within the game. maybe you should start coaching I bet you'd be really good at it.
Plenty of examples where coaches tell their team not to allow certain key players from other team from bringing the ball into the box for a shot. Players know exactly what this means if they want to stay on the field. It means whatever you have to do to stop the player, do it. This often leads to very physical tackles from more unskilled defensive players that rely on aggressive play. Coaches often say they would rather give a free kick from 25 yards than a play in the box from a good skilled player. If you don't think this is happening, you are not paying attn.
Yes nothing comes easy. If you are beat concede the foul and tread carefully the rest of the game with that yellow card. It's called a tactical foul. Give up a foul outside of the box instead of inside all day long. That is how the game is played. It is not dirty or cheating it is a part of the game. Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo these players along with many many others are very talented. they get kicked because it is part of the game trying to slow them down. They understand this so they have evolved they're game they understand when to dribble and when to pass. Often when they take off on a surging run forward chances are they will get kicked and they know that but they do it anyway. Set pieces account for over 60% of goals in any given league. Not always directly from first ball but the second ball or the third wave. Cross gets sent in, it is headed out but your still under pressure keep getting that ball in front of goal you will create chaos in front of the goal. Long throw ins create chaos. It's not always the beautiful game. That is how the game is played by certain teams though. It's common sense. What are you complaining about?? It is literally part of the game. We all know it happens and we all challenge our skillful attackers to get more creative. It's not easy breaking down a teams who ar coached well and keep a good compact team shape. If it were a walk in the park it would be a walk in the park not a soccer game.
Plenty of examples but not one specific where unskilled defenders were overly aggressive and seriously injured another player. So you cannot possible believe that it is dirty cheating poorly coached play. Sounds a lot more like smart play to me. Learn the game. Get better at the game by creating space for yourself with body feints, turns, off ball movement, combination passes and you will get kicked less.
2:15 AM......Your ignorance annoys me.Take a shot from outside the box put that shot on target and force the goalie into a tough save. Next time fake the shot make the defender dive in and walk around him and pass into the corner from inside the box. It's as much of a mental game as it is physical one.
Maybe the coaches who consider themselves tactical geniuses should realize that they are coaching impressionable kids and not professional players. These kids admire you until they realize that your only goal is to win the game that will mean nothing after one season.
The players at the highest levels have split seconds to react and make choices in a game. Split seconds to do what they think will give their team the best possible chance to win.. Oh and by the way 16 year olds aren't exactly children they can make their own decisions for better or worse. At the end of the day It's not about winning or losing its about creating memories that will last forever. Hopefully your son gets to know what it feels like to be apart of a winning team. It's a good feeling when all the hard work you've put in pays off. A memory that won't be forgotten.
Let's be honest here. u17b soccer in this area is a butcher job at best. high school and club is all about hacking away and trying to bulldoze through on both sides of the ball. this is why players with full beards and from abroad with fake birth certificates get further ahead in soccer here.most coaches are 80s throwbacks.
High school ball I agree with that. Club ball however is much more technical.
Oct 3 @4:10Everyone knows that you aren't waiting until kids are 16 to teach these dirty tactics. All your club's teams are taught about "professional" fouls. That's not what youth sports are about. You coaches try to feed your egos by winning youth games at all costs.
Assumptions. Accusations. Complaints. All baseless. 0 facts other than...it's a fact that you can't speak for everyone....." Everyone knows that...." Must be tiring complaining all the time.
Good muppet response.
No one is out trying to hurt anyone, stop the madness.
And so it has begun. The Arrival!Panther Fever, catch it!
Not trying to hurt anyone... play SSCTheir coach can't even control herself.
Her? You really think that a coach is instructing their players to hurt other players?
when a coach says to do ANYTHING to prevent that team from scoring, what do you think it means?
It can mean foul him. It does not mean to hurt him. Have you heard this said? Was he red carded? Did you hear it from the parents sideline of the coaches sideline? Did you lose that game?
It could mean stop him anyway you can and if he gets injured it's unfortunate but we have to win this game.
So now you KNOW what someone means even when they dont say it?
There is a reason red cards are given for: any actions that use excessive force and endangers the safety of another player. It is referee who decides whether a player has committed serious foul play. Challenges from the front or side which the referee sees as dangerous will be punished with a red card. There are absolutely youth coaches that encourage fouls as part of the game and accept the above. Yes, absolutely.
Encouraging a shirt tug is not not the same as teaching straight leg tackles.Fouls are committed and sometimes, yes encouraged.Hurting someone is never encouraged. Quit slinging mud eventually you run out of ground to stand on but hey thank god this blog is anonymous right?? Idiots
so then what is encouraging reckless and/or dangerous fouls exactly?significantly raising the odds of injury puts you in this territory.and there is no doubt you are not a coach or a ref because otherwise you would not be so sure of your ignorance.
I think he is a coach who is trying to prove that it is acceptable to deliberately foul players because it's all part of the game.
So basically we want to encourage teenage boys to slide tackle like Chase Utley in meaningless games playing NJ club soccer so that we raise the risk of broken legs? Ok.Chase Utley is a pro and was making a legitimate play in a major league playoff game but couldn't even get it right, but we expect teenage boys to get it right on meaningless plays in meaningless games with a lot less skill and athleticism?
I will ask the million dollar question. Who is asking players to intentionally injure other players? I stand by the fact that there is not one person that is but you seem to feel I am wrong. I will await your answer.
Do you tell your players that it's alright to intentionally foul other players to stop them from scoring but make sure you don't injure them? I think that would be impossible.
No it is possible it happens every game retard otherwise there wouldn't be any forward players left
maybe a better question is why are we even having this discussion? to use fouling as a strategy is a misguided way to look at the game. whether intentional injure or not, makes for a mess of a game and boys get no where playing this way except some bad club soccer and/or bad high school results. ok, if thats the goal, enjoy. i would say then why not man up and play some real contact sport like football or lacrosse?
12:18You're an ignorant tool. To tell kids to go out and foul so you can brag to your friends that you're a great coach because you won a youth game is pathetic!
im not a coach so I couldn't possibly brag about winning games. If a Coach used this blog to brag or trash talk. I wouldnt want my son to play for him. No way. I have no problem with some physical play. Tackles teach lessons to the tackler and the one being tackled. The best soccer players understand when to dribble and when and how to pass.Fouling Lik slide tackling should be taught as a last resort. And taught in a manner in which players don't get seriously hurt by the foul. Most coaches know this. Players as well know and understand this. Apparently some of you don't get it but most of you on this blog probably never even kicked a soccer ball in a competitive game before so it makes sense you don't understand this
Still no one is able to identify someone that has taught these tactics. Stop the idiocy.
This is fun. Can't wait until Nov so we can all start bashing all the good teams again. Really missed everyone since summer.
Quite a funny statement, sad but true. I happen to believe that the top teams hold a healthy respect for one another and it is the mid level teams ranked 15 or below that seem to have the issue. This is also a strange year because at U17 you have Jr's and Sr's in high school that have been playing together for years but now the Sr's may not play because they have committed already.
Den of Lions U17 are holding tryouts this sunday (tomorrow) at 6pm.Team will compete in EDP, state cups and top tournaments. High level players only.Riverfront Park 553 Raymond Blvd Newark New Jersey 07105
Please define high level.

Team predictions to fall in ranking and rise in ranking in the Spring. Go....
from an old school sports guy to the poster who bashed football as too dangerous and to the other who downplays coaches teaching physical play...read the story today about hs sophomore who died as the result of a collision during a game. all terrible news. but i think balances the prior conversations that there is risk in everything and that coaches should minimize.
Coaches DONT make that happen. Players DO
DOL U17 Eagles Tryouts for this Sunday at 9am Riverbank Park.27 Somme St. Newark 07105.Team competes in EDP and top tournaments.
It's wrong to blame players when coaches are saying purposely fouling other players is ok. Explain how coaches are not at fault.
anyone that watches sports at any level knows that coaches set the tone for how teams play. as a ref, i can always tell what kind of game we are going to have by the coach. jerk coaches have teams that play dirty, not rocket science.if you deny this, sorry but that is clueless.
And You as a referee are judging a book by its cover. Not a ref I want.
An experienced ref is not judging a book by it's cover. He can see what's going on. A referee does not want to see players get injured. It's fact that some teams play dirty because they want to win at all costs. The coach of that team is not one I want for my son.
refs just don't blindly make calls in a vacuum. there is a feel and judgement that has to be used. u8 through u17, girls and boys, elite and rec etc. rivalry game, team rep etc. an experienced ref can size this all up before he even blows the whistle to start play. 75% of ref prep at ANY level is all about sizing up the situation. doesn't mean you change your calls, just means you are ready.idiot coaches show themselves very quickly and the dirty play has either already started or is not far behind. idiot parents should be included in there as well. dirty play often comes as a package and very predictable...to think otherwise, is ignorant...
SDFC and Matchfit stay favorites to be atop the rankingsMarlton is a very decent side gut overachieved last yearMorris and SJB are good strong teams but. Meh. Marlboro continues to drop in rankings.Look out for Stronghold to challenge the "top teams" again.Holmdel has maintained a good level, they're my dark horse team to watch out for. On the bubble: TSF and NJ Force had solid seasons but just don't have the fire power to consistently be competitive. Capable of catching teams off guard and could earn a few Surprise results..top team at the end of the season will be Den of Lions. ;)
How would Den of Lions be the top team when they wont even be scheduled to play any of the top teams?Stronghold to challenge the top teams? Are you serious? Stronghold is the top team. They added some key pieces and will only be better. With all your BS however there is something that is factual. These teams have all worked for years to put themselves in the situation where they will be playing against only the top level teams and by doing so will have college coaches at their games and not the mid level games. The results "almost" dont matter any more, but how the matches are played will. Congratulations to all of these teams that have put in the time and effort and have successfully given themselves the opportunity for exposure. Good luck to all.
DoL Eagles Final Fall TryoutsTeam competes in EDP, Cups and top tournaments. Thursday 7:30pm at Ironbound Stadium address:: Rome and St Charles St Newark 07105 Sunday 9:00am Riverbank Park address:: 27 Somme Street Newark 07105
Stronghold is actually not the top team. They are barely the 5th team. Sorry pal. At one point they were the top team but as of lately they are not even within striking distance of the top teams.
Not sure what you see or don't see with Stronghold but you are wrong. But with stupid comments like yours I would imagine that you are used to being wrong.
Take a look at gotsoccer rankings
Oh, the gotsoccer argument. You really are an idiot if that is where you get your information. So the NextGen team that is 16th in the state is good too? They played 4 games TOTAL. You should make your decisions based on facts and based on this years team. SSC was a great team last year and will be better this year with a few changes. Let me guess, you are a MF parent. Sorry not everyone chooses to play for your team.
I didn't say stronghold was bad I said they will again compete for a top spot...which is where you like a bull in a china shop come in a start on about how stronghold is undoubtably the best team in the state. Look at the top 5 all of who played many many ranked games.SDFC- 42 gamesMF-36Marlton- 49Morris- 38SSC- 26Holmdel- 30SJB- 32I'm sure each of these teams I listed will be better than they were last year. The results tallied up from those games played ends with SSC in 5th place. It's just a fact whether you like it or not. Right now they sit in 5th.
I dont understand that argument at all. On top of that you are both arguing points you cant possibly know all the facts on. Who did teams add? Who did teams lose? Who is hurt? etc Soooooo many factors. I also am not sure why it matters who is #1 and who is #5 at this point, arent all these teams poised to have colleges looking at them? Isnt that the point? Stronghold banging the drums is nothing new but lets give them credit, they are good.
It's opinion and predictions... The World Series ends and the next day the "experts" already have predictions for next years potential winner before performance, injury, trades etc. I believe that is way too soon but it happens in every sport.Having teams and individual players play well enough to get looked at by colleges is the end game, yes. Maybe teams added players I don't know... injuries happen throughout a season and we can't account for them right now but that doesn't mean we can't discuss the fast approaching season. Good luck to teams doing upcoming tournaments. Your good results are added motivation for every other team to reach higher. In state rivalry is a good thing. It makes everyone better.Who and why end #1-#5 for the upcoming season?
You keep bringing up added players with SSC.. seems like your little toe poker made the squad eh? Well Lads let's tighten our boots as SSC has both parent and striker then so desperately needed to beat the best.
Reality is Matchfit won the 1 state cup, SSC won the other one. Top 2 teams in the state..Marlton came in 3rd.. SDFC has not won anything in 3 years but still a good team.
What are you folks gonna do 2 years from now?? Better start following another age group because this one is all about college exposure now. If your team hasn't made it into the top flights of the top tournaments then you better get to a bunch of college ID camps. Stop trying to tear down the top teams. It's over now. Good luck to all in the quest for the next level.
Why are you so sure that college coaches are only interested in scouting at top flights? If you invite them to watch a game and evaluate a player, they will come. I know this to be true. Every player on a top flight team is not top quality. A college coach is interested in the player, not the team.
10:01 is correct. You still have to be at a top tournament and play good teams but top means little.
Kind of naive to think that it doesn't matter which team you are playing on. Trust me, it matters. Not saying good things can't happen if you aren't on a top team. It's just harder to get exposure. If it didn't matter the tournaments wouldn't have flights in the college showcases.
I know for a fact that 7:45 is right and wrong. If you are at a top tournament the flight does not matter. (Disney level)However, playing in the top flights will show coaches how you play against the best competition. It is not something that you now have control over so the only thing you can do is play your best against who you have been put up against. If you have coaches that are interested in you, they will come.
Speaking of flighting teams for tournaments can anyone give some insight on how the flights for the EDP Winter Showcase were determined? Eenie meenie miney moe?
What? SSC is not in the top flight? What will college coaches think?
Teams are all comparable to one another in each flight. It does look like some higher ranked teams play in lower brackets though
it does not matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What matters is who is all state and all american. You know they always get those right.
SSC is appropriately playing where they should be in the community college flight.
Teams were devided in 2 categories. The ones that could play 3 days or the ones that could only play 2 days..
Marlton, The town team has a Divison 1 player?? Must have paid his way in
4:00 -- what does that even mean? Hard to follow your sarcasm.
I'd like to know your opinions on roster size. Is there a limit? I think over 20 is too many. How would players get any meaningful play time? Especially if the coach gives most game time to the starters.
SSC absolutely piss poor sportsmanship both on the field and especially by the coach. If you can't handle the game don't play the game.
SSC coach a poor sport? Where have you been. He is an ass if there ever was one.
I watch a little of the SSC game today. Not a very good coach besides being an ""
I can't speak about the first game. Second game...The Coaching staff did nothing out of line.
Face it SSC, your team is not what it used to be. The team is going downhill and the coach knows it.
SSC. Subtraction through addition
It's good to see that the bloggers here, still consider SSC the best team in NJ. Which is the only team they are bashing. Out of the NJ teams the only one that did well was SDFC..
By the way holmdel talked you would have thought they won all their matches
What did the Stronghold coach do this time? Always in the news.
What will you have to complain about for the next couple of months? No games or tournaments.
I heard Marlton is hosting an elite 8 round robin
Are they in it?
What do you think????
Look on the Marlton website. Good group but no points.
Who cares about the points.. Big question is are there college coaches coming?
Maybe the kids just want to play because they love the game and want to keep fit during the winter season. Points and rankings shouldn't be the reason to play.
Showcase event suggests college coaches will be there but none are listed
Since you don't know what coaches will be there suggests you were not invited
Why so secretive? Hiding something?
Marlton invited teams for warmup for Disney. No pressure just play. Some coaches may be there. Maybe not. Some were notified. Will see who turns up.
Marlton shouldn't worry about Disney. Playing in a very low bracket.
Fool. No such thing as a low bracket at Disney. Very good teams dont even get into Disney.
9th out of 11. Maybe brackets don't matter at Disney but the other good NJ teams are playing where they should. You may be right, don't get me wrong.
Why isn't SDFC included in the elite 8 tournament?
SDFC at National League in North Carolina this weekend.
Nice! North Carolina then Florida. Good Luck!
Best to save that travel money for college tuition.
Agreed but fun to travel the country pretending to be superstars! Who needs tuition when you're getting scholarships!
1:36 Who said their getting scholarships? Is that a fact? Specially when you are competing against all the players in academies.
I'm being sarcastic. Nobody should expect a scholarship. There are very few scholarships available for boys soccer, especially when you include foreign players. More for girls soccer.
Perhaps Marlton did not pay repeatedly to go to Disney multiple times and are not bringing lots of teams. That's how it works fellas. Look at YMS, third time that same team has gone in a row, since most of them were freshman. Waste of time and money to go that age but that how's you get in the higher brackets down the road. Lots of good teams at Disney but it's just a money making proposition and who has paid. Not saying that a team's level doesn't impact, but do a little research and this is what you will find quite easily. It's blatant.
When any club starts on the tournament treadmill, it's hard to get off. They have to keep those points up, players and parents expect high rankings or they're leaving. Club fees go up because tournament fees go up. Parents are told that these huge out of state tournaments are important but are they really? What college coaches want to see more than anything else is a highlight tape of your child playing.
Maybe Marlton will get some wins in sunny Florida! Playing in that bracket will help!!!! Stop criticizing policies of other teams.
I would love to see your team play in "that" bracket. There is not a bad team in Disney.
Doesn't Disney take all teams and just find a place for them?
9:57 not criticizing policies of any team. Only commenting on how it works with some events like this. You need to pay to play folks. Lots of good teams there overall but take a look. Some teams that are lower ranked get placed higher based on the fact that they or their club spends lots of money at the tournament and/or are there many times. Not rocket science.
Many teams are turned down for Disney to your question.
That's what they say but I don't know of any team that applied and got turned down. No team applies unless they have a good ranking and they're from a good club.
Ask Holmdel if they got in. They are a VERY good team.
Did Marlboro get in? They have lost 15 of the last 20 games they have played. Playing good teams - granted - but anyone can play good teams and lose.
Marlboro is in. Did Holmdel apply?,
Actually not just anyone can play good teams and lose. You have to be flighted against good teams. Look at all NJ teams and their records at Bethesda, casl, Edp winter showcase, pa classics. Show me a nj team that did well. Doesn't mean they played poorly but maybe they did. They are playing good teams
In both state cups, any team can play a good team, and lose (or win). In the other tournaments - you are correct - you have to have some track record of success. My point was that if you are losing 3-0, 4-0, 4-1, 3-1 games playing in the highest bracket - then you are probably (currently) in the wrong bracket. They are kids, they move around, it happens. Just saying.
That is true. Not sure who is losing 4-0 but if so, true.
look at some of the lopsided results in the US Youth Soccer National League so far....day 2 is in progress right now but day results are in and there is a team HBC from NY-E lost 5-0.............
Did Marlboro beat Marlton 7-2 today????
Right, nobody does but the margin is too lopsided.
There are good days and bad days at the office
Of late, more bad than good days.
Marlton played players meaningful minutes that don't normally get them. Showcase guys.
What were some of the other scores on the day?
Sounders over Stronghold
Wonder why MF was there with their U16 team?
whether Marlton played guys who don't regularly suit up or not I'm sure the coach tried to stop the bleeding before it got to 7.....ouch
The only coaches who have come to the Marlton showcase are the parents. Now they'll point to one guy with a clipboard and say, "see, that's why we're here ". Nitwits.
Agree. The teams at this "event" are tier 2/3. Are there some players in the bunch? Yes. But not the DI top candidates. These are more the kids who will go to a college and walk on. (Please...no replies that "I know one of these kids who is getting a full boat offer from Maryland" responses.) I said earlier that there are some players on these teams but most of these teams rosters are filled with players who when they play their last high school game as seniors will have played their last organized soccer game. 80% of these teams rosters will not play in college. 10% may get a walk on roster spot among the 25-30 players kept by the college coach BUT they will not likely play as a frosh or soph and then will have to decide of just being on the team is worth it as they try and make grades and have some fun in college. Another 5% or maybe 1-2 players from each of these teams will play in college and have a real shot at some playing time first or second year. So let's do some math:-8 teams and assume 16 kids per team equals 128 players at the Marlton event.-102 kids are out of soccer after high school-12 kids will take the walk on roster spot-14 kids will be legit rostered players at some colleges; not likely top 20 DI and for sure not full, half or quarter scholarship players. (Grant and academic money is NOT soccer scholarship money but some parents none the less will say "My kid has a soccer scholarship" even when the money they get is for grades or need.)Just sayin'
SJ Barons 4-1 over HolmdelMatch fit 4-2 over MarltonMarlboro 3-2 over Europa
You are spot on 10:02, gosh do you have a doctorate degree in this ???
Anyone know how SDFC did at Nationals?
Helloooooo. You are wrong. About 40 of these players are capable and will play in college. Many of those will quit after their freshman year and they will focus on school. If ANY of you think you are going pro well think again but if you are chasing a dream and working hard and having fun along the way...... Good for you
Thank you to the above poster for giving the Holmdel score in the match we were light on players. The complete picture is as follows:Yes SJ Barons won 4-1Holmdel defeated Europa 1-0, STA Morris 3-2, Stronghold 4-2.
One prediction is 26 players will play in college. Another says 40. My prediction is 33 players.
SDFC won 2 lost 2 at Nationals
Seems like good work by SDFC. Good job.
Can someone post all the scores from the Marlton Elite 8?
It was a great weekend cheers to you for putting it on Marlton. I am curious how all the games finished as well.
Elite 8? Is this what they call this group? Must be a new definition for the word elite in the dictionary. The old definition for elite was "a select part of a group that is superior to the rest in terms of ability or qualities."Now it is: " a group of players not skilled enough to play for an academy or players who tried with the academies and could not crack the starting side and came back to their local team."Is it that important to give out these type monikers such as "elite"? I guess so in this era of rankings. How about this is a group of 8 teams who has nice kids most of whom (as the other poster stated) will be done with soccer after their senior year of high school. Nice kids. Good futures in something other than soccer. (Btw...even the NCAA knows this as they run TV ads all the time emphasizing life after sport. Most of these kids will not be playing college soccer.)
Wow. What motivates someone to spend the time ripping a bunch of 16 and 17 year old kids who devote a lot of time and energy to play a game they obviously love? Why do you do that? Does it somehow validate you? Really, you need to go away. Get a life. Do something useful. Stop ripping on kids who are doing the right thing for a change. Sickening.
8:09, are you suggesting that these players CANT play at the academy level or perhaps they have not taken that route. There are many reasons not to play academy. (Multiple sport athletes, travel time to even make a practice, not able to play HS, not able to afford it, etc.)On the flip side are you saying that all academy players are better then the top club players? I can give you 10 players off the top of my head that currently play on an academy team that would not start on my son's club team. I can also name 10 players off the top of my head that could easily play academy level soccer but choose not too. What is academy level soccer in NJ? Red Bulls are the only real academy. PDA has some very good players that PAY to be on the team and have moms and dads still in the coaches pockets. NJCSA is PAY to play. MFA is no more. Soooooooooooo, other than the 22 players on the Red Bulls what the hell are you talking about.
8:53 100% correct. There are many academy players who are not of high standard and as you would say would not start on your team. Is that a good thing? Those 10 players don't play a lot on the academy team and in your opinion would not start on your team. Where is the good there?Who is ripping kids? The commentary has nothing to do with kids and everything to do with the adults (who act like kids). The business of soccer consumes you (and your dollar) and that might be what is sickening. Yes, I get it. Don't tell me how to spend my money. Don't ruin my kids dream. Boy do the tournaments, ranking services, training companies have you by the shorties.
PDA 98 and 99s pay?? Isn't there a rule indicating that the experience once at the full academy is free or have you not received that email?
This topic is interesting. NJ is a soccer hotbed. These are the elite 8 (Btw...who came up with that?) Most of these kids are high school juniors with a few seniors.NCAA soccer was done a week ago for the finalists and as far back as 6 weeks ago for most teams. This puts the coaches in high identify and recruit mode. The weather was fantastic last weekend and there was nothing of note going on in the tri state area soccer related other than this event. So tell us, how many coaches were at each game? (Don't spout a list of those registered on a web site)What specific coaches were there? Head coaches?Which teams or players seemed to garner the most interest and attention?Surely with all of the on field and off field chatting among parents, you must be able to share without violating any codes of secrecy.
I dont know the exact amount and I certainly dont know what team or players got the most attention. How would anyone? I do know for a fact that there were at least 19 different universities represented. If I am aware of 19 I can only come to the conclusion that there were more. How many more? I dont know. What I do know is that Marlton did a great job of setting this up and allowed my son and many others the opportunity to be seen by 19 coaches. Those 19 coaches know and speak to other coaches and could give a reference to others if needed. That is a web of connections that would NOT have occurred if not for the friendlies. Cost was paying the refs, that is it. Show me a better deal.
Here's what is sickening from this string:1. One team losing but saying they were short on players as the result.2. One team beating Marlton by a big score and then boasting.3. People quoting coaches in attendance numbers but not offering 5 names of actual head coaches at specific schools. Names please? This is not confidential data.
Why do you care who was there? If you were there you would know and your son would have had a chance to be seen by them. Why should anyone offer any information to you? I will grant you the "short on players" comment was strange and uncalled, I looked for "boasting" but didn't see any so I dont know what you mean. Someone asked for scores and I see no one gave any (except Holmdel) so is that sickening also? Are you required to get those also?
BTW PDA is free for the U16 and U18 Academy teams. You only have to pay for travel. Also in terms of collage coaches, there is nothing like the Academy finals in June and the winter Academy showcase. Regardless, I still think this Elite 8 Friendlies is a nice thing. Even if it only brings 10 college coaches and most of them are D3, it is still a showcase for the kids.
Seems like a fair question. What coaches by name were actually there?By providing names:a) You violate no confidentiality clausesb) Can end the discussion about how relevant this event and these prospects arec) And perhaps most important...it serves as a way to really "reward" Marlton with props. The number and quality of coaches is the hallmark of this type event. Absent names and numbers, I would agree with the other post. This sounds more like a weekend of soccer which is fine but not much showcasing.
Thank you Marlton for putting this together. Thank you to the coaches who came out and saw some excellent play. Thank you to the players for putting out the effort. As far as the other nosy people. Who cares what you ask for, set up your own event and make it work for you.
My kid plays for one of the teams that was there this weekend. College coaches of all levels are interested in these players. I know that. Don't kid yourself. A lot of these kids are going to be able to play college soccer at various levels if that is what they want. Don't come on here ripping these kids apart, get your team invited next time.
4:23Name 5 coaches who were there that you spoke with.Name 5 coaches who were there and that you know spoke directly with the coach, parent or player. No name of player. Just the coach and what team's player you know that coach spoke with. Go ahead. Name 'em.These kids played 4 games in 24 hours as if they were show dogs for a handful of DIII coaches who were mostly assistants and that's where it ends. And what I do know is that most of the kids on at least 3 of these teams are not looking at having their kids go to these DIII soccer schools that are not the highest quality academic institutions. These are not top soccer programs and they are not top academic schools and MANY parents of 3 teams commented when they saw the list "My kid is not looking to go to any of these schools...way below his academic profile."Thems the facts. So what coaches can you ID and what teams players were they interested in?
Let's start with Princeton
why so angry 7:03? We know, your kid spent the weekend on the couch. I am not really focused on this past weekend, I am speaking to the people on here saying that very few of these kids are going to play in college. That's dead wrong. I can tell you that over the past 3 or 4 weekends I have seen tons of college coaches from various college levels. From some of the finest academic institutions that play in D3 all the way to Top 20 programs of D1. They are out looking at these kids. Tell yourself whatever you need to tell yourself so you feel better. Keep those grades up and keep playing hard and a lot of doors will open. 7:03, you're right, these kids should have just stayed home and played FIFA. Feel better?
No comment after Princeton. End of story
EDP flights are up.
I don't see any updated EDP information. Do you have a link?
I would like to wish the blog a very bitter, jealous and spiteful holiday season. May your gut wretch from the distain for your rivals and their gotsoccer rankings. Red and yellow cards adorning your mantle remind you of seasons past. The vein protruding from your neck is the road map to that big fat scholarship you screamed so loud to get noticed by that D1 Coach. Have a restless night and a boisterous new year.... bad soccer santa sends....
High fives to you 3:31. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays nonetheless!!!!
Beautifully said 3:31! Have tears in my eyes. Hope 2016 is the worst year yet for you!!

Big win for Marlton
If you feel that something is an important event, give details or nobody cares.
Why is it a big win for Marlton, who did they beat???
Looking for a site that sorts college camps by date?
Any update Marlton?
Congrats to MF for winning their flight at Disney with wins against teams from WI, NC and CA and tying a NY team. Good job!
cue the MF haters...
MF, STA Morris, Marlboro, NJ teams that enjoyed success at Disney. NJ teams showed well.
EDP has no LVU, Stronghold and Holmdel in the 2nd tier. What is going on with this?
No SSC????? I guess that coach will be yelling at new kids this year.
Has EDP fixed the Holmdel mistake yet?
No way SSC in 2nd bracket
Possible explanation of parents calling looking for roster spots??
7:25, are you speaking of SSC or Holmdel parents? Although I find both would be BS statements. Who is leaving at U17, especially when they are both excellent teams.
Don't worry SSC, if there is justice you will not have to play the likes of group two.
SSC in. Holmdel out. NJ Force in. Holmdel, what did you do for that to happen? EDP got this one wrong.
Holmdel doesn't have the political connections the others have to weasel their way in.
So who "weaseled" their way in? Holmdel, I do think you should be in but only over one possible team (NJ Force). You don't think SSC is a better team then you are? At worst equal? Go dominate the 2nd group.
EDP schedules are out. Let's go coaches and get these schedules going.
Predictions for the spring? State cup runs and edp finishes? Top 5 teams?
How can anyone know at this point? Rosters are barely complete, if at all. Schedules are not out. State cup brackets are not out.Match Fit should have the best chance, but that is just my opinion.
Edp schedule is out. And my prediction for best in state should be 1. Matchfit2. Sdfc3. Marlton4. Sta5.SjeThis based on performance wise man the statecup and edp league.
You are forgetting SSC.. Last year only loss came to Matchfit in EDP and Sate cup..
Stronghold will be VERY strong once again. Not to be in the top 5 is a farce. Marlton in the top 5? Good team, yes, top 5, no. Same with SJEB, they have scoring issues.
Didnt these teams lose some players. Some gained some players. Some moved from team to team, right. No one really knows what team will be what, not yet.
When is the deadline to card a player for the spring? What are the rules about changing teams? How do you find phone numbers for team coaches? I'm trying to find another team for my son. I haven't told my sons team yet but hope to make a transition before spring season. Thanks.
Most of the teams use US Club cards so changing teams is very easily done. Are you suggesting that you have not paid for the spring yet? Has your son been carded to his team yet? That will impact his availability. Look at the teams websites that you are interested in and send an email to the coach.
7:55 Why is your son looking? What are you looking for out of his next team that his current team does not offer? What area of the state? If you can give this information, I do think that people can offer suggestions and contacts.
EDP League has to go away. After appealing members of this organization do not reply to emails. They establish a relegation and promotion league but then they move up teams that stay next to last and also bring new teams in to upper divisions without competing in edp. Shameful.... Wake up, it's not all about money... respect coaches and players. Some of these league administrators have NO soccer experience.
Does anyone know if the Manhattan KOC is going to happen this year? Normally they have a very updated website with applied teams and are ahead of the curve with information. This year they have no information.
