U15B - Competition is thick, diverse and talented

What can we say? You just have to read it--better than Leno and Letterman, any day. This age bracket attracts a lot of attention and several teams have very different rosters going into Fall 2013. Better than ever.

Flighting the Manhattan tournament will not be a simple task. Anyone have any projections?

Anonymous said...

No SSC in Manhattan, so the top team is not going. Says it all.

Anonymous said...

To the previous poster, Howell does do well in the State Cup competitions and has added a few new weapons. Don't rule them out.

Anonymous said...

Weapons, huh? Silly.

Anonymous said...

Silly? Why?

Anonymous said...

Always seems to come back to Howell or Stronghold. Two different level teams but both still good.

Anonymous said...

At this age to make a move to a team like Howell the player(s) must come from a lower level team. That doesn't mean they cant compete but it does mean they are not used to it.

Anonymous said...

You just don't know who Howell added, or you wouldn't be saying that. We will all see in the end.

Anonymous said...

Howell. Ha. Half soccer half basketball. Good players yes soccer well no.

Anonymous said...

Ok since you know, how many Howell kids play basketball. Not a lot at all

Anonymous said...

Looks like the Manhattan tournament may not go off as planned due to snow covered fields.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know when the Maps schedules come out?

Anonymous said...

Any picks for the top bracket in Manhattan... Brackets just came out take a look.
https://events.gotsport.com/events/results.aspx?EventID=33873&Gender=Boys&Age=15

Anonymous said...

Manhattan is not for two weeks. Above poster, you really think this will be an issue by that time? Anyone have more experience with Manhattan and what might be expected in that regard? Hope all is taken care of by then.

Anonymous said...

Yes I do above poster. Yes I do

Anonymous said...

Looking at the brackets, I think you have to take the top 3 as very good. Not much of a difference between Platinum and Elite and Gold is solid.
Platinum- Hoyta and HBC are the favorites, with Marlton and Herndon in over their heads.
Elite- Manhattan Premier seems to be the weak link, but any other team can win this.
Gold--Downtown white and Auburndale are the favorites with Princeton and Blackwatch as big underdogs.

Anonymous said...

Marlton is not "in over their heads". They will compete very well.

Anonymous said...

Agree watching some games Marlton played against our team last year they show a lot of improvement and are very talented.. The goalie is good the defense is solid as long with the midfield and their stricker is a great player they controlled the games against my sons team in a past tournament in the winter/fall season

Anonymous said...

State cup promises to be interesting. When will draw be posted?

Anonymous said...

NJX Flounders change coaches and trainers and losing players. This team is like Benjamin Button heading back to baby time.

Anonymous said...

Why worry or talk about NJX? What did they ever do to you?

Anonymous said...

ssc and sdfc at Dts tourney this coming weekend

Anonymous said...

Nothing more then a glorified scrimmage fest. Which of the two clubs has a knucklehead promoting this.

Anonymous said...

What did NJX do? I remember during their "Glory Year" many of their parents acting like complete rectal orifices during and after games. That baton was then handed to SDFC but I don't know if those classless parents moved over from NJX or if they were homegrown.

Parents, if your team appears to be disliked on this forum, you have as much or more to do with that than your kid.

Anonymous said...

I have not heard a problem with SDFC parents, what are you talking about.

Anonymous said...

SDFC has players that come into the team as well as exit the team. There is nothing wrong for young soccer teens to experiment with different teams. As a matter of fact I think it is a good thing for them to experiment with different coaches, different team players, etc. It only challenges their ability to adapt.
Folks, if your son wants to become a soccer player then you better learned to have "relationships" with coaches and clubs that build them.

Anonymous said...

Well said. Amazing how small minded so many people are. Encourage your kid to be on the best team possible, but don't jump ship every time something else comes up. Actually have meaningful conversations with your coaches. Meet with them, talk with them. Most really do care about your kid's long term success, even if that means possibly not playing on their team.

Anonymous said...

NJ Cup, SDFC and SSC are in the semi finals, no one on their side of the bracket is in the same league. Marlton has an ez path until they meet up with SJEB. Howell, Marlboro, Hudson in the same group, only one can come out.

Anonymous said...

Parsippany can beat SDFC, not a favorite to do so but they can.

Anonymous said...

Sdfc and SSC in one semifinal with the other being Marlton vs Marlboro.. My predictions SSC VS MARLTON with SSC winning 2 1

Anonymous said...

I agree with SDFC VS SSC with SSC with SSC winning 2 0 but i see Marlton vs Howell in the semifinals with Marlton winning 2 1 and in the finals SSC VS Marlton with SSC WINNING IN SHOOTOUT!!

Anonymous said...

Ok marlton thanks for checking in. Now back to practice

Anonymous said...

.....better predictions next time folks as the tournament has been cancelled.

Anonymous said...

Manhattan tourn looks to be a go

Anonymous said...

Any reason why the Manhattan game brackets have been taken down?

Anonymous said...

There most likely were some scheduling conflicts that needed to be resolved resulting in some scheduling changes. Once those are worked out the updated schedules will be put back up. This kind of stuff happens a lot.

Anonymous said...

SSC wins v Marlton! In a SHOOTOUT! That's so awesome.

Anonymous said...

Keep Dreaming

Anonymous said...

Not from SSC or Marlton, but explain to me why that would not be a possible final game. In fact it looks like the most logical matchup based on past results.

Anonymous said...

Got soccer rankings..Marlton 1 in the state

Anonymous said...

Not trying to debate whether Marlton is a great team or not, but they did play in 13 tournaments in 2013. 13! None of them really earned them a lot of points but they grabbed 1700 here and 1400 there, play in 13 tournaments and there you go.

Anonymous said...

ROFL...gotsoccer rankings...that's cute.

Anonymous said...

While Marlton played 13 tournaments in 2013 the other top teams played in

SSC 9
SJEB 7
Hudson 7
SDFC 5
Marlboro 6
Morris 7
Howell 5

Proof that you can buy your #1 ranking. Now it is up to you Marlton to prove you earned it, just by staying there.

Anonymous said...

So your saying Marlton is bad?

Anonymous said...

Is that really what you think 10:31 is saying? It looks like Marlton plays in 30 to 60% more tournaments a year which would result in more points. Does that mean they are the best team in NJ or does that mean they have the most points in NJ due to the overload of tournaments?

Anonymous said...

Tournaments probably give Gotsoccer a cut of $. Majority of those tournaments should not result in any points. Not saying they shouldn't be offered, because teams should be able to have the tournament experience. But many of them shouldn't result in any points and are being gamed for Gotsoccer points by average teams.

Anonymous said...

What a couple of whining idiots. So now we're saying that Marlton did well in tournaments and got points, but that does not make them a good team? I think I've now seen it all. Keep in mind they would have gotten even more points from those tournaments if they were less highly ranked. Every idiot on here knows that the higher level you are going into a tournament the fewer points you get even when you win, get to finals or whatever. Looks to me like Marlton won a few tournaments over the last year or so also. I can't believe someone actually took the time to count the number of tournaments all these teams were in in order to "prove" that Marlton is not a good team. There are very good teams in NJ and Marlton has worked their asses off to accomplish something. You sound like a jealous idiot. Marlton also knows enough to know that points come and go, expire, etc. and that will happen to them as well. Whether or not it lasts, let them have their moment. They are a very good team. Wonder how well you know the players and the coach and what they have been working to build? The name of the game is to be present and put yourselves out there. Sounds to me like Marlton has come a long way over the last two years, so accept it. And yes, before you ask, I am a Marlton parent. Can't wait to play your son's team.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Marlton, if you don't see that by playing in more tournament you will earn more points will then there is no reasoning with you. I don't think anyone said that Marlton was not a good team please correct me if I am wrong. Why would you call the poster names such as jealous and idiot when from what I can see all they did was point out the facts. Looks to me like Marlton is taking the Hudson path.

Anonymous said...

10:56 maybe you're the idiot that posted that Marlton is #1 based on Gotsoccer. They're not #1 and everyone knows that. So looks like Gotsoccer rankings and you are the idiots.

Anonymous said...

Relax, Marlton is a very good team. #1, #5 who knows, but they are a very good team. I too look forward to the days that our sons teams play one another, they will be good games to watch. You see, you will not be playing Dad, your son will. Cheer on your team, that is your right, but don't be a jerk.

Anonymous said...

You're right. Enjoy the game.

Anonymous said...

You guys are missing the point. What I am saying is that it is funny and ridiculous that someone went and analysized all of the tournaments participation percentages for all of the teams to "prove" something. Of course points come and go overnight. Does anyone think for a minute that I think SSC for example is less of a team since points gained a year ago just expired? Points drop easily but you have to work real hard to gain them and have success, and that is what Marlton has done, like it or not. Do I think the top 5 teams are all really good, of course I do. Can anyone off those teams beat any one of them on any given day, yes. Do I think Marlton is literally the best team in the state? Probably not and never said they were...

Anonymous said...

Hope your defense can back peddle that well.

Anonymous said...

Before marlton can claim top dog in the state.. They first have to get past howell and Marlboro which in prior years state cup tournaments have failed..if you can get past them, then you have a chance at SDFC and SSC still top 2 teams in the state.. Marlton has to improve their offense and get away from a being a one trick pony.. They have a good fast striker but not enough against the top teams.
Good luck to all teams in state cup.

Anonymous said...

Irondbound Milan will surprise you kick and run teams. And you know who you are.

Teams that push the panic button after the Manhattan tourn...ha sorry no points to earn!!

Anonymous said...

One trick pony? Not sure what team your watching. Of course u won't believe me but I'm not from Marlton. Not sure where ur reading Marlton claimed anything. The guy was just commenting on the analysis done about the tournament participation and success. Chill out bud.

Anonymous said...

MR. Marlton please enlighten us as to additions or improvements You have added to the team that will help you get past howell and Marlboro

Anonymous said...

Why are you bringing up Howell and Marlboro? I don't understand.

Anonymous said...

Marlton is a good team and they should be in the top of the state...I dont understand the Marlboro or Howell sentendce as Marlton has beaten both of those teams the past times they matched up against each other. Good luck to all teams this years

Anonymous said...

we'll see about ironbound. I was ready to write them off as they seemed on a steep decline and then lost players I heard. Saw them playing indoors though and, it's hard to judge much from indoors but they looked much better than I expected--good intensity and ball movement. Just one game I saw though.

Anonymous said...

Forget Howell and Marlboro and worry about South Jersey Elite, they will be the first test.
Does anyone know when the NJYS state cup draws are?

Anonymous said...

That was fast, Marlton is now number 5 in the state. Hope you took a snapshot of that fleeting #1 ranking. SSC is now #1, and rightfully so.

Anonymous said...

As an old timer that has gone through this with all 4 of my kids...First,
Let's not get crazy with "gotsoccer" rankings.
Second,
Lets be honest...
If your not an real academy we are all second tier (including my son's team...no shame).
If you are a "so called academy" you are a just a club team and if you are a team that has the name of your town in to you are just that a good town team...and before we get "on any given day" responses...a real academy will beat your team 100% of the time.

Anonymous said...

In the grand scheme of things you have some valid points, but you are also wrong. No such thing as a so called academy, no buys into that BS. If you look at the top teams they are all more regional teams. SSC, SDFC, Marlton, Marlboro, SJE, all regional teams. Impossible to have a true town team and be competitive. Would RB beat them? They better or what a waste that would be. Would the other "true" academies beat them over 50% of the time (NJSA, PDA, MF)? Maybe, but maybe not, and that isn't winning one out of 10. Don't over value your academy team as they have scrimmaged some of the teams mentioned above. The academies wont advertise those results however. Again, you are more towards the correct then you are wrong but not by much.

Anonymous said...

Drinking the Academy Kool-Aide....

Anonymous said...

nope...not drinking academy koolaide at all. none of my kids were not academy kids, just not good enough. Thats a fact. If I dont go 100% of the time I will give you academies will will 98% of the time. from the standpoint of what the academy potentially offers (College recruit exposure etc.) the pool of soccer only dedicated kids is greater, to be chosen to make the squad, to be a starter you will truely be one of the top talented kids in the area. add that with facilities, coaching, playing top tourneys against top comp it just makes these kids better (IQ, physically, speed of play)...its what the academy system is supposed to do...dont hate on it. If you are good enough to make it, you would be bathing in it too...or drinking the koolaide as you say...look no further that Kyle Gurreri (sp?) from NJ. Played PDA, RBNY, even Philly Union. He's trainined with top EPL teams and is supposedly waiting to turn 16 to get a contract to play. The system works...

Anonymous said...

Facilities? Are you serious, now I know you don't know what you are talking about. 2 out of 4 NJ academies have facilities. Still not better then my home town facility. Of course they are talented players, I hope no one is saying they are not but they just aren't that much better. My son could play on an academy team if he chose too, maybe not RB. True, they do have greater visibility but I also know that 1 kid in NJ MIGHT go pro (not my kid) so there goes that plus. Yes college coaches will find them, but most of these kids will stop playing college soccer after their freshman year (do the research).

Anonymous said...

So having your own field at your disposal is not an advantage?
Not better than your home town facility that you have to share with countless levels of youth and teen soccer, boys and girls and if youre lucky the field doesnt have to be shared with lacross or american football. PDA turf fields are plowed and open. RBNY have a full sized turf field in Carlstadt, WCFC turf fields are plowed and open, NJSA has Tab's indoor bubble in Matawan...not sure about MF, also most academies are practicing 3 times a week without fail. How many times is your sons team practicing? I have no illusions about my boys, but to think..."My son could play on an academy team if he chose too" youre just looking through daddy glasses...just by putting (do the research)does not bait me into thinking that you have. No one is talking about the success/fail rate of a college player. It all started in people boasting about useless rankings and that honestly you cant discount academies like they dont exist. SDFC had a long run at tops in the state and in the nation...which is unbelievable, and my sons team lost to them handily and reguarly, but i know that they are no where near tops when you include the academies (not only in NJ).

Anonymous said...

first of all, USDA teams are birt year just like ODP, these are club teams from Aug - July cutoff, so any comparison is useless. Second, where do you think Redbull, Union, etc get their players? from good teams like SDFC, SSC, Downtown, Beachside and other top tier EDP teams. Hats off to the very clubs you put down. They are the feeders to the academies.

Anonymous said...

So by your own logic its like saying the staten island yankees are one of the top baseball teams in the area...you can not discount the big team in the bronx.
so just to go back to the ealier post that I believe started this.
"That was fast, Marlton is now number 5 in the state. Hope you took a snapshot of that fleeting #1 ranking. SSC is now #1, and rightfully so."
You cant say that with such certainty without looking at the bigger clubs that couldn't care less about gotsoccer points.

Anonymous said...

BTW, I am not putting down any club or level of play. I have be degraded my son's team through out this blog convo...I just think some people need to be more humble with their success.

Anonymous said...

To say that A player on any team CANT play on an academy team is plain ignorant. Maybe not your son as you said, but there are plenty. Do you have multiple children and have an advantage of seeing both academy and non? If you did you would know the truth. Keep believing what you want, and Peter Pan is real too.

Anonymous said...

enough of this please, it will never end. Lets talk about the Maps Spring Challenge, will it be played?

Anonymous said...

not the above poster but to think that anyone could join an academy is more ignorant that the original poster. These academys are elite for a reason. I guess your so happy with your team that your boy never tried out...guess what...your little beckham probably wouldnt make it.

Anonymous said...

4:12, let me understand you. You are saying that all players currently on an academy team are better than every player currently not on an academy team? If so, you are a fool. I would and could go further but you just don't get it.

Anonymous said...

So, you don't know of any players that don't play at an academy because they also want to play HS ball. I can name multiple current academy players who are not better then multiple non academy players at this moment. It is a choice, and each family has to make it. True, the academy team is a pure soccer team but maybe that isn't what everyone wants. Just because they play soccer 3x a week at an academy doesn't make them a better player.

Anonymous said...

pretty sure if you practice anything 3 times a week at a high level you will be better than a high level player that practices once a week.

Anonymous said...

Who practices once a week?

Anonymous said...

there's only one Academy in NJ at the U15B that can beat the top club teams most of the time -- Red Bulls. PDA probably close to that. The other Acadamies -- no way. Top club are better that them. And then look at the other Academies in the Boys 1998 Academy league -- they're not great -- at all.

Anonymous said...

Marlton is a one trick pony?? Please explain?

Anonymous said...

Don't worry about mindless comments Marlton is good

Anonymous said...

agree that rbny is tops and PDA is close...not sure about MF, but NJSA is shite.

Anonymous said...

With all this Marlton bashing, good luck to you this weekend. Do well in VA, NJ should be pulling for you.

Anonymous said...

Why do we talk about Marlton forward all the time is he good or something? Why the one trick pony like the above poster says??

Anonymous said...

Who said the one trick pony was the forward? Sorry Dad, keep trying.

Anonymous said...

10: 32 on March 2nd said their stricker and I'm not from Marlton just wondering why we call their forward a one trick pony??

Anonymous said...

And that trick is to fall down and plead for a foul call every time the ball is tackled away.

Anonymous said...

That's true haha I have seen that happened but we are talking about the fast one up top not the midfield player but so true

Anonymous said...

Get your tickets now:

SDFC Rangers vs Stronghold Falcons.

March 30, 3pm at Watsessing Park, Bloomfield, NJ

The top "non-academy" team of NJ will once again go to battle.......A great game to begin the season and not to be missed!!

(ps: academy coaches may be scouting!!!)

.....lol

To ALL TEAMS: HAVE A GREAT SEASON and parents, please, let the young adults have FUN!

Anonymous said...

Can someone explain why there are so many teams in EDP. Surely all these teams can't be premier teams. The Maps league has been reduced to one bracket.

Anonymous said...

That's why

Anonymous said...

Stronghold, I realize you played in the top bracket of a great tournament and played some great teams, but do the scores show the truth? losing by 3 and 4 goals is not the Stronghold way, have you lost players or just a bad weekend?

Anonymous said...

....what do you mean the "truth"? Stronghold is a respected team in NJ. Any team can have a bad weekend or a bad tournament, and no my son doesn't play for them. We just happen to compete against them.

Anonymous said...

Respected, yes, but what does that have to do with the question? If a team loses 3-0 and 4-0 that generally shows a beat down. BUT if a couple PK's or bad luck goals get thrown into the equation, well that is different. So, to the question above, what happened here?

Anonymous said...

Marlton now at 6 in the state and soon to be 7 as Morris will be moving up a few slots due to a good weekend.

Anonymous said...

To the poster who asked why are there so many teams in EDP, It's because every team is chasing the got soccer pts. in order to raise their ranking and attract better players.

Anonymous said...

which tournament was stronghold in? Seen this team play many times,,, ugly soccer based on bigger kids and a lot of defensive fouls. reminds me of high school soccer

Anonymous said...

Marlton now #7, moving in the wrong direction. To the poster above, SSC playing ugly soccer? Maybe you watched the wrong team play.

Anonymous said...

Hey, so do folks on here think that when points expire from a year ago that the team all of the sudden got worse? Again, a lot easier to lose them to gain them. Understand how the process works and guess it's the way to keep pushing people to strive, but it is an interesting concept. So for all those folks that point out that team X is now Y what is your point? Love it when we win to climb up and that feels like accomplishing something, but let's get our heads on straight. I hope to God the kids don't think their team is not good or strong cause old points died, like some of our fine dads on here. Just some thoughts...

Anonymous said...

The expired points were not replaced by earned points.

Anonymous said...

No crap. It does not line up week over week... Over time it evens itself out of course though and is an indicator.

Anonymous said...

If the points expired, they should have been replaced by more recent points. That is unless tournaments were not won or a team didn't place. The only way to look at the drop in ranking is that there has been poorer performance thus no points added. For a team to move up in rankings they have to add points, meaning they did well in tournaments. Not sure if Marlton is better today then they were a year ago but the lack of points says that other teams have enjoyed more tournament success recently.

Anonymous said...

forget the points, top 10

SDFC
Morris
SSC
Marlton
Marlboro
SJEB
PDA Messi
Howell
Parsippany
Hudson

Anonymous said...

I think there is a down side to the point system. It stresses the importance of winning over player development. Not a good thing in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

100% correct. At the end of the day however we are all so conditioned to view winning games as having had good player development.

Anonymous said...

That's absolutely the way it is in the USA. We're the land of winners but sad to see some good players quit the sport because they don't develop physically as fast as others and therefore get frustrated with their playing time.

Anonymous said...

So they quit? If development is your real issue, someone needs to love the game to develop. If they quit without looking for other options then they didn't love the game and never would have developed.

Anonymous said...

What has Morris done to be 2nd?

Anonymous said...

You will see, a nice revamped team.

Anonymous said...

Finally get to play some outside soccer this weekend. Good luck to all.

Anonymous said...

Just a quick NJ cup prediction. Dragon Soccer will upset Howell in the second round. Predict a hard fought 2-1 ending.

Anonymous said...

Just another prediction...The Howell coach will be yelling Sprint, Sprint, Sprint during the game.

Anonymous said...

there is nothing to do with soccer on this site. parents, coaches, DOCs of clubs, academy and non-academy are to worried about rankings and gotsoccer points to actually move the sport in this country in the right direction. you all consume yourselves with all this nonsense, and then have your sons regurgitate how great they are because they won a few low level games at the youth level. the kids are the only ones that miss out. we fail to harp on the players technique, tactical knowledge and good decision making. Thats why ALL these club/academies only "develop" college level players. Its easy to play in college, its now just as bad as the kick and run crappy soccer 95% of american teams play at all levels. heres a test, next time you're at one of these games or tournaments you all speak of, look around at a few different games and count how many times youth gks punt the ball and not even try and play out of the back. thats just one area. most american kids get to college and still cant trap and pass, drive long balls or consistently hit the net from 18 yrds out....tactical knowledge is nonexistent other then the spot little timmy was programmed to play so his team didn't lose and drop in the "rankings"... shocking. . . keep consuming yourselves with wins and loses at the youth level, playing bad soccer. again the kids are the only ones that miss out. wake up!

2nd round of US Club State Cup predictions? Let's hear 'em......I say Wall beats Florence?

Anonymous said...

Ok then. In a battle of the titans Wall beats Florence.

Anonymous said...

Howell big over Dragons
Ocean over Marlboro
Dynamo over Hudson
Washington over PDA Union
NJ Force big over Mt Olive
SDFC over NJX
Ironbound rebels over Galacticos
Morris over Westfield
Marlton by 7 over Cape Express
Stronghold over Flemington

Anonymous said...

Impressive win by marlton, and i am still confused why morris is so high?

Anonymous said...

Ocean over Marlboro????? Marlton beat a crappy Washington "D" team by 6 and they're going to beat a better team by 7? Ocean vs Marlton in the semi-finals? Ironbound over JK Galacticos??? Craziness ensues

Anonymous said...

Marlton beat marlboro 5-1, im pretty sure they are going to beat a very low ranked team by more than 6

Anonymous said...

You consider Cape Express a better team? They would be Marltons C team. Ocean will beat Marlboro and no they wont meet in the semi's. Most of the games predicted above will not be competitive, need to go a couple rounds before that happens.

Anonymous said...

Ocean stinks, puuhhhlease

Anonymous said...

Ocean over Marlboro is funny. Ocean can't kick it far enough for their crappy kick and run style to work over a team like Marlboro. Marlboro easily by 4 or 5. Marlton should have an easy time until they meet SJB. SJB only beat a horrible Rancocas Valley team 3-0? Hudson only beat a terrible NJSA04 team 4-2?
What's going on?

Also, I think Ironbound's B team is now the A team and vice versa.

Anonymous said...

Ocean recently played Marlboro and outplayed them. Lost yes, but outplayed them. I guess we will see.

Anonymous said...

March Madness is whats going on

Anonymous said...

Ocean, Ocean, Ocean. Why? Why come on here saying the things you do. When you lose, and at some point you will, it just will not end well for you. I am sure you are a proud parent or coach, that is fine. Best of luck to you.

Anonymous said...

yeah, someone up a bit mentioned there won't be anything competitive for a few rounds. Yet, someone else mentioned Hudson "squeaking by an NJSA04 team that couldn't beat me and my sister. Some competitiveness appears to already be happening

Anonymous said...

You should learn how to read. What was written was " Most of the games predicted above will not be competitive". NOT, there wont be anything competitive for a few rounds.

Anonymous said...

Ocean stinks Ocean Dad. I cann reed bye the whey.

Anonymous said...

Ocean Daddy, be happy if your sons team does something good once in awhile. learn to accept those things about your sons team that aren't as good. Know where they stand. They aren't anywhere near as good as you think they are. Don't oversell them to those that know better. Be happy that they are better than most teams at their age group, but not as good as the top teams.

Anonymous said...

I think what "AT" above is saying that Marlton beat Marlboro AT their home location, which is impressive given the outcome.

Anonymous said...

Why would where the game is played mean anything. Home town refs, that is all in your head. Referees don't care, believe me when I tell you this.

Anonymous said...

I see Marlboro beat Ocean last night 4-1 in Round 2. I'm sure Ocean outplayed them though. Ocean now moves on to the bracket where you continue if you outplayed the other team but lost anyway. Doesn't sound too competitive except at the beginning when it was 0-0

Anonymous said...

Since Ocean lost by 3 to Marlboro who lost to Marlton by 4, then I guess Ocean would lose to Marlton by 7. Hahahahahaha

Anonymous said...

You people are all acting like idiots. One game does not define a team. A 3 or 4 goal differential does not always tell the story or show how competitive the game was. Marlton is a good team, Marlboro is a good team, Ocean in the youth soccer landscape is better then most teams out there but not quite at the top level. Marlton can come on here bragging about a victory but that really becomes meaningless when they don't give a recap of their losses. Relax everyone, listen to yourselves at the games. A lot of you say the most embarrassing things, really you do. Your boys are playing the games, let them do the talking.

Anonymous said...

To the dbag poster at 9:05am - it actually was very competitive - 1-0 at the half and 2-0 halfway through the second half. After 2-0 Ocean pushed hard and gave up a couple of counters but got one in between.Marlboro is very good especially the striker - he scored or assisted on every goal it seemed. It is great to be playing this level team - a couple of years ago we would not have been able to compete with them. But I know the purpose of this board isnt to actually discuss soccer....sorry. Lets see, here is where I make a disparaging remark about somebody being a dad or mom and stop talking about your son.....curious.......if you arent a dad or mom......why would you be on this board.....kinda creepy.....or pathetic.

Not sure who 1:28 poster was but I think I know. I too am an Ocean parent, and if you think that it was competitive then we have different ideas. Just because the score was 1-0 didn't mean we were first to the ball EVER, doesn't mean we had any real chances and doesn't show the missed goals of our competitor. Don't get caught up in the score, it easily could have been 7-2. Their outside mids won every possible ball and their players in the center controlled the field. I say even today we are not competitive with the top teams. But keep believing the hype put out their by our staff.

Anonymous said...

An Ocean parent huh? Then you remember when we were ACTUALLY losing to the Howell's and Marlboro's 5-0 and 6-0 (usually by halftime) - right? So a part of your logic is right - it used to be 7-2. Now it isnt no matter how many coulda beens you want to use. We played Howell 1-0 in the fall and we just played Marlboro twice in two weeks and we were up 1-0 at half the first time and down 1-0 at half the second time. That is enough playing time for me to decide we are more competitive with them now then we ever were. And we will get better by playing them. You can think whatever you want. It is all relative. But that is the first time I ever heard an Ocean parent refer to our "staff". LOL

Anonymous said...

10:16 what the hell are you talking about? Marlton should now start to give a recap of losses? Did we give a recap of a win or something? Yes, Marlboro is a good team. Yes, Marlton is a good team. Marlton outplayed them. Whatever. Also, not sure where anyone is seeing Marlton bragging. Complete idiots.

Anonymous said...

Ocean predicted a win. I now see that didn't come true. Learn from Hudson and NJX. Just play

Anonymous said...

Regardless of points, tomorrow plays two great non- academy teams against each other. SSC vs SDFC. Two technical teams that rarely utilize kick and run tactics. Would SSC finally break their loosing streak to SDFC and keep their current status? ......or would SDFC prevail once again. Good luck to both teams, may the best team win. I personally, enjoy your style of play. .......and heck, I don't have to pay to watch good soccer. I encourage parents and soccer players to come and watch these teams play.

Anonymous said...

What a joke you are. Yes you know we know.

Anonymous said...

Wow maybe they should sell tickets. Too funny.

Anonymous said...

Glad I made you laugh. Great game Sounders...

Anonymous said...

Laughed at you not with you.

Anonymous said...

SSC 2
SDFC 2

Anonymous said...

Do the Red Bull players play in this game

Anonymous said...

Marlton picks up a tie and a win over YMS this weekend.

Anonymous said...

Red bull players did not play for SSC, so not a bad result considering they were missing four starters from last year's team.

Anonymous said...

Great result. Are those players gone or just not there today Did they move up players.

Anonymous said...

Marlton, thank you for the updates. You easily received the easiest draw in the NJ Cup and now received a very easy NJYS State cup draw. You are living large. No way you aren't in the Semi's in both.

Anonymous said...

Ironbound plays Elizabeth, but maybe not because Elizabeth is also scheduled to play in the lower level state cup. Cant play in both.

Anonymous said...

SSC got better result without its Red Bull players

Anonymous said...

What are you saying, that SSC lost its best players and now they are better? Did they really lose them or are they playing both?

Anonymous said...

SSC has lots of depth with 45 players in these age group

Anonymous said...

I am from SSC, and believe me , no one here is stating we better without those players. We are still good , but we look fwd to when they can guest with us.

Anonymous said...

I agree that Marlton got favorable draw as SDFC, SSC, Marlboro etc in other bracket. Shame SDFC and SSC might meet so early.....that could be a good final.

Anonymous said...

If these SSC players are now playing with the Red Bulls, how can they guest with you? What academy team would allow that? I just don't get it.

Anonymous said...

The Draw makes no sense, make it even. SDFC should not have to play SSC so early. It isn't right.

Anonymous said...

Stronghold always very vocal on this site. Now they have been questioned about using Red Bull players and they are no where to be heard. Interesting. 45 deep, yet use Red Bull players? It doesn't seem to fit.

Anonymous said...

they don't use red bull players, four of thier players from last year made red bull academy team.

Anonymous said...

That would make sense, almost. 4? Seems like a lot to me. The prior SSC poster wrote that they will be guesting with them. Would an academy team allow that?

Anonymous said...

Did SDFC really have to go to PKs to beat Holmdel in the US Club Cup? Did Holmdel play to tie, by keeping 9 guys and a keeper back the whole time?

Anonymous said...

Do you REALLY think that the Sounders would play that style? Maybe it was just one of those games. Maybe the Sounders have gotten better. Sometimes addition through subtraction can work.

Anonymous said...

Sounders and SDFC both played a great game....Maybe SDFC had more opportunities to score, but did not happen. Regardless, Sounders team is a team to watch out for this season. It earned my respect.

Anonymous said...

Stronghold has a new coach, and new players. It happens and all will be fine. Still a team that will play great together.

Anonymous said...

"Did their Red Bulls players play?" Red Bulls will not let their players "guest" for other teams. Maybe they will once in a while for some off the beaten path indoor tournament. But not for an EDP or State Cup game w/ another team. If they're letting a 15 yr old play for another team, then he's "guesting" w/ Red Bulls and not in their system. Which means he's trying out for RB on an ongoing basis.

Anonymous said...

So you know that as a fact, do you?

Anonymous said...

yes a fact some SDFC and SSC players only in Red Bull prac pool of players.

Anonymous said...

My God this is getting ridiculous. SSC players are practicing with RB, not actually on RB. 2 players that played for SSC last year are now full time with RB and can no longer play with SSC. If you want to look deeper into it, there are 20-30 players in NJ that are as good or better then these players but they decided to go to RB and had connections to do so.

Anonymous said...

talk about ridiculous! who made you judge and jury of these two players and talent scout of the 20 - 30 players better than these two? now that's ridiculous! these are all still young developing players, shut up, sit back , and just let them play. Can't see the point of any of this....

Anonymous said...

SSC lost more than two to redbulls, remember that academy is birth year so two at 98 others at 99, 00 etc.

Krystal Ball's Top Ten
1. SSC Falcons- as def champs of both state cups, deserve the perch until someone in NJ knocks them off
2. SDFC Rangers- 2:2 with SSC shows the rumors of their demise to be just that- rumors! They are still legit!
3.Marlton -5:1 over Marlboro impressive, they are def more than one trick pony I keep hearing about
4.Morris STA Gunners- new and improved version looks to make some noise this spring
5.PDA Messi- trickle down from academy pool always seems to help this team
6.Howell- tough to duplicate last year's double runs to finals, but will be reckoned with
7.SJEB - always seem to be competitive and in the mix
8.Hudson- they accumulate got soccer points by hook or crook, but their wins merit a place
9.Marlboro- loss to Marlton knocks them down a few pegs, but dangerous when on
10. Ironbound- don't care what name they go by or who they have or who they lost, as long as soccer is played on Ferry St, they'll be good!
Dark Horses/ on the bubble:
Parsippany- will new kids on the block continue to rise?
Hans Soliz- who are these guys?
Flemington- rising western NJ star?

Anonymous said...

8:26, slow down and relax. Read the prior post, has to be a SSC parent who is now concerned about losing his best players. Jealousy does creep in.

Anonymous said...

Crystal Ball aka Marlton Dad, do some real research.

Ironbound is NOT good.
Parsippany is just ok.
Flemington, you must jest.

Anonymous said...

SJEB is higher than 7. Top 5.

Anonymous said...

Hans Soliz is now Hudson. Parsippany just lost to Jersey United spartans, so forget about them and what about Flemington makes then a dark horse?

Anonymous said...

Sounds like Crystal Ball is on crystal meth.

Anonymous said...

crystal meth or not her top ten is actually ok

Anonymous said...

nj state cup draw does not have to make sense cause it's a blind draw

Anonymous said...

So much for Marlton by 6. They won in PKs

Anonymous said...

Sorry. Prediction was Marlton by 7.

Anonymous said...

Marlton's C team just outplayed their A team but lost in the 8th round of PKs. I was at the game and Cape outplayed them, no question. Not saying they are a better team but wanted it more. There's been what I would call a few upsets in this State Cup this year and a few close calls for the likes of SDFC and Marlton. That's why they play them.

Anonymous said...

Crickets in marlton. How unlike them

Anonymous said...

SSC, Howell, SjEB, marlton, Hudson all win in SC but all barely won. Strange

Anonymous said...

Manhattan Premier 6-2 over SDFC
Delaware 1-0 over South Jersey
Delaware 1-1 Marlboro
NJ Stallions 2-0 over Howell
Sronghold 2-1 over Ironbound Rebels

Surprised at the SDFC thrashing and Howell losing to the Stallions. Stronghold by 1? Seems too close.

Anonymous said...

Marlton C team haha that's funny I guess a cape express parent is a little upset they lost and yeah we'll say you dominated.. A couple minutes of the game,Try and teach your kids some soccer not to whine every single time a foul is called!

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone said dominating. Outplayed was the word and I think you should ask the Marlton coaches who outplayed who. I do agree that Cape dominated a couple of minutes. As far as the whining is concerned, it takes one to know one.

Anonymous said...

So I was at the above game. Cape Express played well. Marlton would say they themselves did not play as well as they could have and was expected. Cape Express played a good game and took us to PKs. Hats off to them. I'd like to think that on most occasions that Marlton would beat them by more, but we didn't and that's that. They have some good players on that team and they worked their asses off. That team has improved and yes I am a Marlton parent.

Anonymous said...

Cape Express will never beat Marlton, never. That was their chance and IF they ever play again it will not be close. Cape knows this too.

Round of 16 predictions

SSC 3-0 over TSF. SSC has to get out of their funk.

Morris UTD 3-0 over Football club.

Jersey UTD Spartans 2-1 over Jersey Knights in an even match.

Howell 2-1 over Marlboro. Howell new additions changing the game.

NJ Force 1-0 over SDFC. NJ Force is good.

Marlton 3-0 over Wall. Wall defenders too slow for Marlton striker.

SJE 2-0 over Washington Twp

Hudson 2-1 over Jersey Premier.

Anonymous said...

Force over SDFC --- come on!

Anonymous said...

I don't think Force winning is such a dream. It can happen.

Anonymous said...

On paper the only game that I see as truly competitive is Marlboro vs Howell. Have not seen either play this year, so no idea what will happen.

Anonymous said...

I know what you are saying about on paper, but based on the number of tight games and games going to PKs to decide them between what a lot would say are top tier vs second tier( or 3rd tier - Marlton's "C" team) so far, more of the same is what I would expect. I mean, would anyone truly have expected to see the amount of ties between teams so far apart in the rankings?
