U17B - Fewer teams, better quality, look out

What can we say?

This age bracket attracts a lot of attention and several teams have very different rosters going rolling into Spring 2016.

Fewer teams, better quality, look out.

U17 Boys soccer is no joke.

SSC. Subtraction through addition

Anonymous said...

It's good to see that the bloggers here, still consider SSC the best team in NJ. Which is the only team they are bashing.
Out of the NJ teams the only one that did well was SDFC..

Anonymous said...

By the way holmdel talked you would have thought they won all their matches

Anonymous said...

What did the Stronghold coach do this time? Always in the news.

Anonymous said...

What will you have to complain about for the next couple of months? No games or tournaments.

Anonymous said...

I heard Marlton is hosting an elite 8 round robin

Anonymous said...

Are they in it?

Anonymous said...

What do you think????

Anonymous said...

Look on the Marlton website. Good group but no points.

Anonymous said...

Who cares about the points.. Big question is are there college coaches coming?

Anonymous said...

Maybe the kids just want to play because they love the game and want to keep fit during the winter season. Points and rankings shouldn't be the reason to play.

Anonymous said...

Showcase event suggests college coaches will be there but none are listed

Anonymous said...

Since you don't know what coaches will be there suggests you were not invited

Anonymous said...

Why so secretive? Hiding something?

Anonymous said...

Marlton invited teams for warmup for Disney. No pressure just play. Some coaches may be there. Maybe not.
Some were notified. Will see who turns up.

Anonymous said...

Marlton shouldn't worry about Disney. Playing in a very low bracket.

Anonymous said...

Fool. No such thing as a low bracket at Disney. Very good teams dont even get into Disney.

Anonymous said...

9th out of 11. Maybe brackets don't matter at Disney but the other good NJ teams are playing where they should. You may be right, don't get me wrong.

Anonymous said...

Why isn't SDFC included in the elite 8 tournament?

Anonymous said...

SDFC at National League in North Carolina this weekend.

Anonymous said...

Nice! North Carolina then Florida. Good Luck!

Anonymous said...

Best to save that travel money for college tuition.

Anonymous said...

Agreed but fun to travel the country pretending to be superstars! Who needs tuition when you're getting scholarships!

Anonymous said...

1:36 Who said their getting scholarships? Is that a fact? Specially when you are competing against all the players in academies.

Anonymous said...

I'm being sarcastic. Nobody should expect a scholarship. There are very few scholarships available for boys soccer, especially when you include foreign players. More for girls soccer.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps Marlton did not pay repeatedly to go to Disney multiple times and are not bringing lots of teams. That's how it works fellas. Look at YMS, third time that same team has gone in a row, since most of them were freshman. Waste of time and money to go that age but that how's you get in the higher brackets down the road. Lots of good teams at Disney but it's just a money making proposition and who has paid. Not saying that a team's level doesn't impact, but do a little research and this is what you will find quite easily. It's blatant.

Anonymous said...

When any club starts on the tournament treadmill, it's hard to get off. They have to keep those points up, players and parents expect high rankings or they're leaving. Club fees go up because tournament fees go up. Parents are told that these huge out of state tournaments are important but are they really? What college coaches want to see more than anything else is a highlight tape of your child playing.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Marlton will get some wins in sunny Florida! Playing in that bracket will help!!!! Stop criticizing policies of other teams.

Anonymous said...

I would love to see your team play in "that" bracket. There is not a bad team in Disney.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't Disney take all teams and just find a place for them?

Anonymous said...

9:57 not criticizing policies of any team. Only commenting on how it works with some events like this. You need to pay to play folks. Lots of good teams there overall but take a look. Some teams that are lower ranked get placed higher based on the fact that they or their club spends lots of money at the tournament and/or are there many times. Not rocket science.

Anonymous said...

Many teams are turned down for Disney to your question.

Anonymous said...

That's what they say but I don't know of any team that applied and got turned down. No team applies unless they have a good ranking and they're from a good club.

Anonymous said...

Ask Holmdel if they got in. They are a VERY good team.

Anonymous said...

Did Marlboro get in? They have lost 15 of the last 20 games they have played. Playing good teams - granted - but anyone can play good teams and lose.

Anonymous said...

Marlboro is in. Did Holmdel apply?,

Anonymous said...

Actually not just anyone can play good teams and lose. You have to be flighted against good teams. Look at all NJ teams and their records at Bethesda, casl, Edp winter showcase, pa classics. Show me a nj team that did well. Doesn't mean they played poorly but maybe they did. They are playing good teams

Anonymous said...

In both state cups, any team can play a good team, and lose (or win). In the other tournaments - you are correct - you have to have some track record of success. My point was that if you are losing 3-0, 4-0, 4-1, 3-1 games playing in the highest bracket - then you are probably (currently) in the wrong bracket. They are kids, they move around, it happens. Just saying.

Anonymous said...

That is true. Not sure who is losing 4-0 but if so, true.

Anonymous said...

look at some of the lopsided results in the US Youth Soccer National League so far....day 2 is in progress right now but day results are in and there is a team HBC from NY-E lost 5-0.............

Anonymous said...

Did Marlboro beat Marlton 7-2 today????

Anonymous said...

Who cares

Anonymous said...

Right, nobody does but the margin is too lopsided.

Anonymous said...

There are good days and bad days at the office

Anonymous said...

Of late, more bad than good days.

Anonymous said...

Marlton played players meaningful minutes that don't normally get them. Showcase guys.

Anonymous said...

What were some of the other scores on the day?

Anonymous said...

Sounders over Stronghold

Anonymous said...

Wonder why MF was there with their U16 team?

Anonymous said...

whether Marlton played guys who don't regularly suit up or not I'm sure the coach tried to stop the bleeding before it got to 7.....ouch

Anonymous said...

The only coaches who have come to the Marlton showcase are the parents. Now they'll point to one guy with a clipboard and say, "see, that's why we're here ". Nitwits.

Anonymous said...

Agree. The teams at this "event" are tier 2/3. Are there some players in the bunch? Yes. But not the DI top candidates. These are more the kids who will go to a college and walk on. (Please...no replies that "I know one of these kids who is getting a full boat offer from Maryland" responses.) I said earlier that there are some players on these teams but most of these teams rosters are filled with players who when they play their last high school game as seniors will have played their last organized soccer game. 80% of these teams rosters will not play in college. 10% may get a walk on roster spot among the 25-30 players kept by the college coach BUT they will not likely play as a frosh or soph and then will have to decide of just being on the team is worth it as they try and make grades and have some fun in college. Another 5% or maybe 1-2 players from each of these teams will play in college and have a real shot at some playing time first or second year. So let's do some math:
-8 teams and assume 16 kids per team equals 128 players at the Marlton event.
-102 kids are out of soccer after high school
-12 kids will take the walk on roster spot
-14 kids will be legit rostered players at some colleges; not likely top 20 DI and for sure not full, half or quarter scholarship players. (Grant and academic money is NOT soccer scholarship money but some parents none the less will say "My kid has a soccer scholarship" even when the money they get is for grades or need.)

Just sayin'

SJ Barons 4-1 over Holmdel
Match fit 4-2 over Marlton
Marlboro 3-2 over Europa

Anonymous said...

You are spot on 10:02, gosh do you have a doctorate degree in this ???

Anonymous said...

Anyone know how SDFC did at Nationals?

Anonymous said...

Helloooooo. You are wrong. About 40 of these players are capable and will play in college. Many of those will quit after their freshman year and they will focus on school. If ANY of you think you are going pro well think again but if you are chasing a dream and working hard and having fun along the way...... Good for you

Anonymous said...

Thank you to the above poster for giving the Holmdel score in the match we were light on players. The complete picture is as follows:
Yes SJ Barons won 4-1
Holmdel defeated Europa 1-0, STA Morris 3-2, Stronghold 4-2.

Anonymous said...

One prediction is 26 players will play in college. Another says 40. My prediction is 33 players.

Anonymous said...

SDFC won 2 lost 2 at Nationals

Anonymous said...

Seems like good work by SDFC. Good job.

Anonymous said...

Can someone post all the scores from the Marlton Elite 8?

Anonymous said...

It was a great weekend cheers to you for putting it on Marlton.

I am curious how all the games finished as well.

Anonymous said...

Elite 8? Is this what they call this group? Must be a new definition for the word elite in the dictionary. The old definition for elite was "a select part of a group that is superior to the rest in terms of ability or qualities."

Now it is: " a group of players not skilled enough to play for an academy or players who tried with the academies and could not crack the starting side and came back to their local team."

Is it that important to give out these type monikers such as "elite"? I guess so in this era of rankings.

How about this is a group of 8 teams who has nice kids most of whom (as the other poster stated) will be done with soccer after their senior year of high school. Nice kids. Good futures in something other than soccer. (Btw...even the NCAA knows this as they run TV ads all the time emphasizing life after sport. Most of these kids will not be playing college soccer.)

Anonymous said...

Wow. What motivates someone to spend the time ripping a bunch of 16 and 17 year old kids who devote a lot of time and energy to play a game they obviously love? Why do you do that? Does it somehow validate you? Really, you need to go away. Get a life. Do something useful. Stop ripping on kids who are doing the right thing for a change. Sickening.

Anonymous said...

8:09, are you suggesting that these players CANT play at the academy level or perhaps they have not taken that route. There are many reasons not to play academy. (Multiple sport athletes, travel time to even make a practice, not able to play HS, not able to afford it, etc.)

On the flip side are you saying that all academy players are better then the top club players?

I can give you 10 players off the top of my head that currently play on an academy team that would not start on my son's club team. I can also name 10 players off the top of my head that could easily play academy level soccer but choose not too.

What is academy level soccer in NJ? Red Bulls are the only real academy. PDA has some very good players that PAY to be on the team and have moms and dads still in the coaches pockets. NJCSA is PAY to play. MFA is no more. Soooooooooooo, other than the 22 players on the Red Bulls what the hell are you talking about.

Anonymous said...

8:53 100% correct. There are many academy players who are not of high standard and as you would say would not start on your team. Is that a good thing? Those 10 players don't play a lot on the academy team and in your opinion would not start on your team. Where is the good there?

Who is ripping kids? The commentary has nothing to do with kids and everything to do with the adults (who act like kids). The business of soccer consumes you (and your dollar) and that might be what is sickening.

Yes, I get it. Don't tell me how to spend my money. Don't ruin my kids dream. Boy do the tournaments, ranking services, training companies have you by the shorties.

Anonymous said...

PDA 98 and 99s pay?? Isn't there a rule indicating that the experience once at the full academy is free or have you not received that email?

Anonymous said...

This topic is interesting. NJ is a soccer hotbed. These are the elite 8 (Btw...who came up with that?) Most of these kids are high school juniors with a few seniors.

NCAA soccer was done a week ago for the finalists and as far back as 6 weeks ago for most teams. This puts the coaches in high identify and recruit mode. The weather was fantastic last weekend and there was nothing of note going on in the tri state area soccer related other than this event.

So tell us, how many coaches were at each game? (Don't spout a list of those registered on a web site)

What specific coaches were there? Head coaches?

Which teams or players seemed to garner the most interest and attention?

Surely with all of the on field and off field chatting among parents, you must be able to share without violating any codes of secrecy.

Anonymous said...

I dont know the exact amount and I certainly dont know what team or players got the most attention. How would anyone? I do know for a fact that there were at least 19 different universities represented. If I am aware of 19 I can only come to the conclusion that there were more. How many more? I dont know. What I do know is that Marlton did a great job of setting this up and allowed my son and many others the opportunity to be seen by 19 coaches. Those 19 coaches know and speak to other coaches and could give a reference to others if needed. That is a web of connections that would NOT have occurred if not for the friendlies. Cost was paying the refs, that is it. Show me a better deal.

Anonymous said...

Here's what is sickening from this string:
1. One team losing but saying they were short on players as the result.
2. One team beating Marlton by a big score and then boasting.
3. People quoting coaches in attendance numbers but not offering 5 names of actual head coaches at specific schools. Names please? This is not confidential data.

Anonymous said...

Why do you care who was there? If you were there you would know and your son would have had a chance to be seen by them. Why should anyone offer any information to you? I will grant you the "short on players" comment was strange and uncalled, I looked for "boasting" but didn't see any so I dont know what you mean. Someone asked for scores and I see no one gave any (except Holmdel) so is that sickening also? Are you required to get those also?

Anonymous said...

BTW PDA is free for the U16 and U18 Academy teams. You only have to pay for travel. Also in terms of collage coaches, there is nothing like the Academy finals in June and the winter Academy showcase.

Regardless, I still think this Elite 8 Friendlies is a nice thing. Even if it only brings 10 college coaches and most of them are D3, it is still a showcase for the kids.

Anonymous said...

Seems like a fair question. What coaches by name were actually there?
By providing names:
a) You violate no confidentiality clauses
b) Can end the discussion about how relevant this event and these prospects are
c) And perhaps most important...it serves as a way to really "reward" Marlton with props. The number and quality of coaches is the hallmark of this type event. Absent names and numbers, I would agree with the other post. This sounds more like a weekend of soccer which is fine but not much showcasing.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Marlton for putting this together. Thank you to the coaches who came out and saw some excellent play. Thank you to the players for putting out the effort.

As far as the other nosy people. Who cares what you ask for, set up your own event and make it work for you.

Anonymous said...

My kid plays for one of the teams that was there this weekend. College coaches of all levels are interested in these players. I know that. Don't kid yourself. A lot of these kids are going to be able to play college soccer at various levels if that is what they want. Don't come on here ripping these kids apart, get your team invited next time.

Anonymous said...

4:23
Name 5 coaches who were there that you spoke with.
Name 5 coaches who were there and that you know spoke directly with the coach, parent or player. No name of player. Just the coach and what team's player you know that coach spoke with. Go ahead. Name 'em.

These kids played 4 games in 24 hours as if they were show dogs for a handful of DIII coaches who were mostly assistants and that's where it ends.

And what I do know is that most of the kids on at least 3 of these teams are not looking at having their kids go to these DIII soccer schools that are not the highest quality academic institutions. These are not top soccer programs and they are not top academic schools and MANY parents of 3 teams commented when they saw the list "My kid is not looking to go to any of these schools...way below his academic profile."

Thems the facts.

So what coaches can you ID and what teams players were they interested in?

Anonymous said...

Let's start with Princeton

Anonymous said...

why so angry 7:03? We know, your kid spent the weekend on the couch. I am not really focused on this past weekend, I am speaking to the people on here saying that very few of these kids are going to play in college. That's dead wrong. I can tell you that over the past 3 or 4 weekends I have seen tons of college coaches from various college levels. From some of the finest academic institutions that play in D3 all the way to Top 20 programs of D1. They are out looking at these kids. Tell yourself whatever you need to tell yourself so you feel better. Keep those grades up and keep playing hard and a lot of doors will open. 7:03, you're right, these kids should have just stayed home and played FIFA. Feel better?

Anonymous said...

No comment after Princeton. End of story

I don't see any updated EDP information. Do you have a link?

I would like to wish the blog a very bitter, jealous and spiteful holiday season. May your gut wretch from the distain for your rivals and their gotsoccer rankings. Red and yellow cards adorning your mantle remind you of seasons past. The vein protruding from your neck is the road map to that big fat scholarship you screamed so loud to get noticed by that D1 Coach. Have a restless night and a boisterous new year.... bad soccer santa sends....

Why is it a big win for Marlton, who did they beat???

Anonymous said...

Any update Marlton?

Anonymous said...

Congrats to MF for winning their flight at Disney with wins against teams from WI, NC and CA and tying a NY team. Good job!

Anonymous said...

Nice MFA

Anonymous said...

cue the MF haters...

Anonymous said...

MF, STA Morris, Marlboro, NJ teams that enjoyed success at Disney. NJ teams showed well.

Anonymous said...

EDP has no LVU, Stronghold and Holmdel in the 2nd tier. What is going on with this?

Anonymous said...

No SSC????? I guess that coach will be yelling at new kids this year.

Anonymous said...

Has EDP fixed the Holmdel mistake yet?

Anonymous said...

No way SSC in 2nd bracket

Anonymous said...

Possible explanation of parents calling looking for roster spots??

Anonymous said...

7:25, are you speaking of SSC or Holmdel parents? Although I find both would be BS statements. Who is leaving at U17, especially when they are both excellent teams.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry SSC, if there is justice you will not have to play the likes of group two.

Anonymous said...

SSC in. Holmdel out. NJ Force in. Holmdel, what did you do for that to happen? EDP got this one wrong.

Anonymous said...

Holmdel doesn't have the political connections the others have to weasel their way in.

Anonymous said...

So who "weaseled" their way in? Holmdel, I do think you should be in but only over one possible team (NJ Force). You don't think SSC is a better team then you are? At worst equal? Go dominate the 2nd group.

Anonymous said...

EDP schedules are out. Let's go coaches and get these schedules going.

Anonymous said...

Predictions for the spring? State cup runs and edp finishes? Top 5 teams?

Anonymous said...

How can anyone know at this point? Rosters are barely complete, if at all. Schedules are not out. State cup brackets are not out.

Match Fit should have the best chance, but that is just my opinion.

Anonymous said...

Edp schedule is out. And my prediction for best in state should be
1. Matchfit
2. Sdfc
3. Marlton
4. Sta
5.Sje
This based on performance wise man the statecup and edp league.

Anonymous said...

You are forgetting SSC.. Last year only loss came to Matchfit in EDP and Sate cup..

Anonymous said...

Stronghold will be VERY strong once again. Not to be in the top 5 is a farce. Marlton in the top 5? Good team, yes, top 5, no. Same with SJEB, they have scoring issues.

Anonymous said...

Didnt these teams lose some players. Some gained some players. Some moved from team to team, right. No one really knows what team will be what, not yet.

Anonymous said...

When is the deadline to card a player for the spring? What are the rules about changing teams? How do you find phone numbers for team coaches? I'm trying to find another team for my son. I haven't told my sons team yet but hope to make a transition before spring season. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Most of the teams use US Club cards so changing teams is very easily done. Are you suggesting that you have not paid for the spring yet? Has your son been carded to his team yet? That will impact his availability. Look at the teams websites that you are interested in and send an email to the coach.

Anonymous said...

7:55 Why is your son looking? What are you looking for out of his next team that his current team does not offer? What area of the state? If you can give this information, I do think that people can offer suggestions and contacts.

Anonymous said...

EDP League has to go away. After appealing members of this organization do not reply to emails. They establish a relegation and promotion league but then they move up teams that stay next to last and also bring new teams in to upper divisions without competing in edp. Shameful.... Wake up, it's not all about money... respect coaches and players. Some of these league administrators have NO soccer experience.

Anonymous said...

Example??????

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know if the Manhattan KOC is going to happen this year? Normally they have a very updated website with applied teams and are ahead of the curve with information. This year they have no information.

Anonymous said...

So what. Who cares. You talk about this like it is the EPL. Its a kids league - they all grow out of it. Big deal.

Anonymous said...

What is the next tournament some of these teams will be playing in? Anything in February?

Anonymous said...

ironbound navigators is a u16 team got placed on 2nd division north without competing in a u17 age level , ironbound milan stayed next to last in last year's division got moved up njcsa never played edp at this age got placed higher...why?

Anonymous said...

Because Ironbound club pays a lot of money to EDP so EDP listens to them. Money talks

Anonymous said...

This makes me realize how phony the got soccer pt. system can be. New teams go into high flights in EDP where they can quickly collect pts. EDP gives out extra pts. for defeating higher ranked teams. At the end of the season, a team can come in 6th out of 8 teams and still get loads of pts.

Anonymous said...

Really. Please give an example

Anonymous said...

Ironbound pays a lot of money to EDP? How would you say that they pay as much or more then any other club? I would say they pay less.

Anonymous said...

edp lost the all the respect from most clubs of running a true league. This season everything changed when league has been up for a few seasons. Top teams move up bottom teams go down. How simple is that....Stick to tournaments and leave the league format.
This is not a religion it's a sport, stop asking in your application if" you're all in" as part of your system clubs get rewarded for being "all in". Clubs should start to look into their local, area leagues and participate in club driven tournaments. support each other not a multi million dollar business.

Anonymous said...

Stop your crying. Unless you can prove you should have been moved up then it means nothing.

Anonymous said...

Yes Manhattan is on but at a much smaller level. The details will be out within the next 5-7 days

Anonymous said...

I don't mean to beat a dead horse but how the hell did Holmdel not get into the first division of EDP. They have at least 8 players on the team that will play in college. Top keeper, great forward and mids and a great defender or two. EDP really let these players down.

Anonymous said...

Which team in 1st division central would you remove in order to put Holmdel into that division (assuming you don't want them traveling too much by being put into the north or south 1st divisions)? I think with the possible exception of NJ Force and Marlboro (just based on recent form over the past year) the rest belong there?

Anonymous said...

I actually think they all belong in the first division with maybe the exception of NJ Force. Marlboro did not have a good record last year but at least it was in the first division. NJ Force will have a tough time moving up in class. Holmdel cant complain too much about Marlboro, they lost to them in their only appearance. The difference between the first and second divisions is large, why not just add Holmdel to the first group where they belong. They are by far the best team in the second group.

Anonymous said...

Teams don't want to play that many matches.

Anonymous said...

Holmdel can schedule cross over games with first flight teams.

Anonymous said...

Tell me which team will. NO time to do it. Champions league, EDP, tournaments, ID camps, State Cups = no time.

Anonymous said...

No harm in asking but I guess you know everything!

Anonymous said...

What part of that said not to ask? I said, "tell me which team will".
I gave reasons why they will not. I did not say not to try. Reading comprehension is a problem for you I see.

Anonymous said...

Being civil is a problem for you !

Anonymous said...

I was very civil until you acted like an ass and stated that I know everything. That was civil? Just stop now, you have shown your true colors and ignorance.

Anonymous said...

Manhattan applied teams list is posted. Seems to be a good group at the U17 age.

Anonymous said...

Might be a "good group", but if you dont know who you are playing, does it matter?

Anonymous said...

Most top NJ teams are playing Manhattan...missing in action are Matchfit, Holmdel, NJ Force....where are they playing?

Anonymous said...

Top teams?! Aside from academy New Jerseys top teams are SDFC and Match Fit. Huge drop off from those two teams. End of story.

Anonymous said...

Yes Matchfit and SDFC are stron teams but give some other teams in NJ credit... it's less of a "huge drop off" from those two teams than you may think.

In my opinion there are 8 "CLUB" teams that can beat each other on given days...some have a better chance of doing so than others of course but how is that not competitive or discussion worthy?

Of course none of these puny club teams could ever even think of being competitive with academy teams in a million billion years!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Does your team ever play a friendly against a academy team? You might be surprised at what you see.

Anonymous said...

The MLS Academy teams are clearly better than the best club teams. The other Academy teams could be beaten by the top club teams on any given day. That's the reality. No question that the top teams can compete with PDA and NJSA. Million, billion is as silly as it sounds.

Anonymous said...

Red Bulls yes. Phil Union, I don't know. There are some playing for Phil Union now that are not that good. Maybe they don't play, maybe there are multiple teams, but they travel almost 2 hours to get there and it makes no sense.

Anonymous said...

Marlton, SJEB, SSC Can beat both of those teams and have. End of story

Anonymous said...

Can beat both teams? Meaning who?

Anonymous said...

I think they mean MF and SDFC, both of which have been beaten by other teams in NJ other than SSC, Marlton and SJB. How about STA and Marlboro. So basically any of these teams can win on any given day but MF, SDFC, and SSC are a slight step ahead.

Anonymous said...

Club teams can argue forever about defeating academy teams but since the teams play in different leagues and nobody will ever know for sure.

Anonymous said...

Add Holmdel and we got 8 top teams in NJ with 2 teams slightly ahead of the pack. All the while each of these teams are highly competitive with one another. forget about academy because that is a different league and talk club top teams. Which tournament is MF playing in 2 weeks?

Anonymous said...

Holmdel 100% in the conversation. They have some very good players but not great depth.

Anonymous said...

Next tournament for MF is Jeff Cup.

Anonymous said...

On any given day. Blah, blah, blah! Are there any teams in NJ that can even think about winning a national championship besides Match Fit and SDFC? Answer, no chance! These teams are very consistent in their approach and play. They play the top teams in the country on a consistent basis. How many other teams can say the same? You talk about competing against the academy teams. Other than MF and SDFC, no other team in NJ could even compete with the nations top club teams.

Anonymous said...

How do you explain the fact that SDFC didn't have good results at the Disney Showcase. I don't see them dominating on the national stage.

Anonymous said...

MF is the best in NJ right now, end of story. No one can compete with them currently.

Anonymous said...

Does MF feel their matches are competitive? If so, other teams can compete with you. Get off your high horse. Do you blow all your competition away? I don't see it. Youre a very good team, thats all.

Anonymous said...

Matchfit has first game vs Penn Fusion at Jeff cup. Thats an intriguing match up

Holmdel has Batlimore Celtic at Annandale. Equally intriguing match up

Anonymous said...

holmdel is going to learn the hard way they're not nearly as good as they think they are. Celtic are national champs for good reason.

Anonymous said...

So by that reasoning, if Holmdel loses to the National Champions, they are no good?

Anonymous said...

U17 is the year where those teams normally ranked 12-20 make their moves to the elite level. Generally speaking those teams had good players, just not enough. At this age teams break up and the better players from those teams are now spread around.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Manhattan tournament might actually happen this year. Someone please wake up the scheduler for the tournament, he needs to actually put one together.

Anonymous said...

lets not forget SSC is the only team with a national championship, and 3 state titles

Anonymous said...

A bogus National Championship where you can bring players that are not on your team. Let us not forget that either. 3 state titles is impressive.

SSC has A national championship, they don't have THE national championship.

Fact. If you are a top ten NJ team, you lost to SSC!!!

Anonymous said...

Check your facts, son.

Maybe 4 years ago playing SSC was frightening...definitely not anymore...sorry bud

Big ups to MF beating Loudoun. That's a marquee win. Well done guys.

What has changed with Stronghold that people think they are not as good as they were. Did they lose players or did they gain players? They brought back a few that played for RB and added more very good players. What logic are you using?

Anonymous said...

Not saying they aren't an excellent team but SSC is in the 3rd flight at the Jefferson Cup behind MF and STA. That says something about the quality of the team.

Anonymous said...

Does it? Or does it say something about the quality of the team last season? Rankings do not take into consideration injuries, key additions etc.

Anonymous said...

If the Stronghold coach felt his team should be flighted higher, wouldn't he have requested that and provided the reasoning?

Anonymous said...

Maybe he did. Maybe they didnt care. How does that change the fact that there are different players on the team.

Anonymous said...

Get better results this year and then make a case about how strong stronghold is....everyone had injuries last year. Everyone had a player added or dropped. Get a grip on reality.

Anonymous said...

Your season last year was mediocre at best

Anonymous said...

Why would anybody leave the Red Bulls to play on a team that is in the 3rd flight of anything?

Anonymous said...

because they are the best team in NJ

Anonymous said...

I want my sons team to be mediocre like SSC. Looking at Edp and Us club state cup. They beat SDFC,Marlboro,STa,Marlton, NJ force. Looks like they beat the best teams in NJ.. With the exception of Matchfit.. Good luck to all teams this year..

SSC is the best team in NJ? Something tells me that those players weren't invited back to Redbulls. Why would anyone give up free soccer to go back to pay to play?

Anonymous said...

Who cares about who is the best team? It's all about college exposure at this age. Lots of kids being actively recruited right now. Time for arguing about who is best is over.

"It's all about college exposure at this age"
Go back to this blog at U13/U14.......same thing said.

Anonymous said...

Except it's true now.

Anonymous said...

7:44

So enlighten us on who is actively being recruited. Are these colleges DI or DIII?

Anonymous said...

1:53, what would it matter if it was Division 1,2 or 3? If you are a junior in HS and not being recruited by anyone at this point I would think that you are behind a lot of others. It does not have to be UNC or Syracuse to count as being recruited. You could simply have been contacted by a coach who saw you play at a tournament, you send your highlight video and they decide that they would like to speak to you.

Match Fit had kids commit to Syracuse and Rutgers last week. SDFC has an Indiana commit. They are TOP D1 programs.

Anonymous said...

Good for them! This is where the rippling will begin and the pyramids get tighter for college coaches.

Anonymous said...

Marlton, sjeb, Marlboro, ssc... Any division 1 players?

Anonymous said...

yes

Anonymous said...

Good luck to all NJ teams playing in tournaments this weekend

Anonymous said...

So let me see if I have this right. SDFC has one player committed to a D1 school and now all the other teams are crap?

Anonymous said...

No 9:06 you have it all wrong. There are D1 level players on all of the top teams. Some have more than others, but most of these kids can play college soccer. Whether it's D1,2 or 3. The big question is how much or how long they will play? Did your child put everything have into the last 10 years to get to this point? Would it be worth it to say, I'm playing D1 soccer and not play much? Most of these potential college soccer players have never had to sit the bench. Why would you want to start now? Make sure your kid loves the SCHOOL, not the soccer, not the coach, not the logo on the sweater. There are so many factors out of your child's control that could change the soccer experience at the flip of a switch. Good luck to all!!!

Nice post and very true. Many D3 schools are a much better match for most on so many levels including the fact that the top D3 schools will beat the mid to bottom D1 schools. You might be surprised. D2? Go ahead, play for Georgian Court and be bored out of your college life.

Holmdel surprised a lot of people with their results at Annandale this weekend. 3 wins in the top flight! Congratulations! You've proved to everyone that you deserve to be in the top flight of EDP.

Anonymous said...

Holmdel never doubted Holmdel. Keep sleeping

Anonymous said...

How many different tournaments were there this past weekend? I see Holmdel did well, did others play too. Where was it played?

Anonymous said...

The manhattan tournament. Marlboro won their flight with 3 wins.

Anonymous said...

Manhattan NJ results (different flights)

Marlboro 3-0
SSC 2-1
SDFC 2-1
Marlton 1-2
SJB 0-3
TSF 1-1-1

Top 5

1 Matchfit
2 SDFC
3 Sounders
4 SSC
5 Marlton

Anonymous said...

Why all the Marlton love? Good team, yes, but what have they done lately to deserve a top 5 ranking?

Anonymous said...

Thought for sure no other teams in the state could compete with the top teams in the country besides MF and SDFC.....and then Holmdel takes down the national champs....any of the intelligent soccer minds on this blog have a good explanation for that?
